Dr. Mark Wilkinson (D.M.A.) - teacher, singer, performer, athlete, philosopher, and formidably gentle human being joins Adam for Part 3 of our Human Opera Series. In today's show, we talk about being hyper-subscribed in our modern lives and how context drives the human brain crazy. We also cover being in charge versus being a leader, disagreeing with a mentor, weighing personal responsibility against the public good, how we're obsessed with the micro right now and could all use some 'zooming out', and Dr. Mark's concern with the infantilization of talent with shows like "...Idol" and "...Got Talent". We also talk to Mark about his personal decision to put performing aside during the pandemic, his passion for studying the voice, and how the voice can be used to detect lying and overall health. In today's show, we touch on addictions and grief in a post-pandemic world, imperfection, the sanctimony of social media, privilege, anthropomorphizing our phones, discrimination, anarchy, getting lost in what you’re fighting against instead of what you’re fighting for, group freedom versus individual freedom, reading books you might end up disagreeing with, slowing down to remind ourselves of what’s real and beautiful in the world, and taking care of others. #13: Parenting Series: Unusual Things Children Say, Ghost Stories, and the Supernatural
In honour of our 13th episode, we have fun chatting about the bizarre, unsettling, fantastical, and downright frightening things that children have reportedly said out-of-the-blue. Are children somehow aware of, or connected to, otherworldly dimensions or experiences? We add in some of our own strange experiences with our daughter, and as a couple before she was born, and draw on pop-culture and philosophy during our conversation. Join us for a fun and skin-chilling discussion! Visit our website at www.thoughtsandfound.com for people, companies, and links mentioned in this episode. #12: Parenting Series: How To Trust The Ride - The "Wonder Weeks" of Infant and Child Development
In this episode, we chat about the book, "The Wonder Weeks," by Hetty van de Rijt, Ph.D., Frans Plooij, Ph.D., and Xaviera Plas-Plooij.
The book outlines "how to stimulate the most important developmental weeks in your baby's first 20 months and turn these 10 predictable, great, fussy phases into magical leaps forward."
We discuss how we prefer the term and concept of a 'leap' to the more popular one, 'milestone'; how we've continued to apply the term 'leap' to our daughter's development past the age range presented in the book, and what strategies we've used as parents to push through the inevitable fussy phases, and trust the ride to take us to the wonderful gains that come soon after.

#11: Parenting Series: Two Heart-Warming Books For You, and Your Child
In this episode, Adam talks about two delightful books we added to our home library this Christmas season. They are books for all-ages, can be opened to any page, anytime, and can even be enjoyed by your toddler. We invite you to understand why.
- The Boy Who Would Be King, written by Ryan Holiday, and illustrated by Victor Juhasz.
- The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse, written and illustrated by Charlie Mackesy.
This episode is NOT sponsored by the authors; we just really like their books.

#10: Community Series: The Poppy Turns 100
In this episode, we chat about how the Royal Canadian Legion has chosen to commemorate the 100th anniversary of wearing a Remembrance Day Poppy in Canada, and how we stumbled on a way to make Remembrance Day and poppy-wearing easier for a toddler to understand. #9: Parenting Series: Balancing Your Humours
From Empedocles, to Hippocrates and Galen, philosophers and medical practitioners have been helping people balance their "four humours" for centuries.
In this episode, we chat about how we balance our humours on busy days with our two-year-old toddler: What we add or subtract to keep our days, ourselves, and our toddler operating smoothly.

#8: Parenting Series: Making Your Bed & Other Small Parenting Victories
"Little things in life matter." In this episode, we chat about how something as (seemingly) inconsequential as making your bed can give you a sense of accomplishment and calmness at the end of those busy days as a work-from-home parent. Learning the little things sets kids up for the big things that come later.
We based this discussion on the book, "Make Your Bed - Little Things That Can Change Your Life...And Maybe The World," by Admiral William H. McRaven (U.S. Navy Retired), and extended his idea to a few key spots around the house that can quickly be tidied (or maintained) on-the-go or in just a few minutes at the end of a hectic day.

#7: Parenting Series: The Joys of Parenting Outside
As a couple, we love spending time outside. So, it's only natural that we want to share that joy with our child. Plus, being outside makes our parenting life so much easier. In this episode, we chat about how parenting outside has saved us money, kept us moving, and taught our two-year-old how to read, all while exploring our new city and meeting the people we share it with. Not to mention the fun to be had together, and the clean house when you get back home! Visit our website at www.thoughtsandfound.com for people, companies, and links mentioned in this episode. #6: Parenting Series: Hip Dysplasia - A Silent Condition

#5: Parenting Series: The Weird and Wonderful World of Infant and Toddler Sleep

#4: Pregnancy Series: Last Days of Pregnancy, First Days of Parenthood, and Four Funny Stories
After the arrival of our baby girl, we're (finally!) back to give an update on the final weeks of pregnancy and the initial days of parenthood, with some funny stories along the way, that hopefully some of you can relate to!
We kept this episode intentionally light; we're just back with a fairly short, conversational recap of the past several months, and why the heck we haven't recorded a new podcast. We hope you'll enjoy pouring a cup of your favourite drink and joining us for some laughs.
Thanks for listening, subscribing, and rejoining us. Lots more to come!

#3: Pregnancy Series: 10 Things That Have Surprised Us About Pregnancy (So Far!)
One thing we've learned on this journey to becoming parents is that every pregnancy is mind-blowingly different! With that in mind, in this episode, we talk about 10 things that have surprised us about Danielle's pregnancy (so far). The list includes things we either hadn't heard from other women or doctors, things we know other pregnant women and expectant couples must have experienced, but that 'just don't get talked about' - at least publicly - and things that we've encountered that are the complete opposite from what other people have said pregnancy would be like! In true Thoughts & Found form, we hit this one hard and put it all out there - the good, the bad, the personal, and the potentially TMI! Hope you enjoy - it's a bit of a fun one!

#2: Pregnancy Series: Navigating "the Tell"
Expecting? Congratulations! Not sure when, or how to tell people, or who to tell first? We review the ups and downs of our own experiences of ''navigating the tell" with two pregnancies that ended in miscarriage, and a current third pregnancy. We also run through the pros and cons of telling early, factors that can accelerate the timing of when you tell (!), and the importance of going with your gut and telling in your own way.

#1: Pregnancy Series: “Baby Gear”
Have you ever sat down to create a list of all the "gear" you "need" for baby's arrival? Wish it was all listed in one place instead of scattered across the internet? Wish people were honest about what they really needed vs. what they were led to believe they needed by big box stores, registry sales people and websites, (and, dare we say it, even friends and family)? Trying to stick to a budget for baby's arrival? You can be led to spend a fortune without even trying.
In this first official episode of our podcast, we review all the gear we've looked at, reviewed, compared, considered, and carefully evaluated - and then what we eventually bought in order to prepare for the arrival of our first baby. We divided the 'stuff' into categories, which you can find listed below. And it's not as much as we thought! (We'll be back to update the list once baby arrives and we can really put our money where our mouth is in terms of what should have made the list and what didn't need to be included).
