S 1 Ep 9 - Improving Physician Wellness with Cheryl True, MD
In this episode, I talk to Dr. True about the important subject about physician wellness and burnout! Most people do not know that burnout is an official diagnosis according to the World Health Organization! Dr. True describes herself as "I am a Midwesterner, who was going to be an artist, a jockey (until I grew!), a veterinarian, a researcher until finally landing in medicine. I worked for about 6 years before Med school. Thought I’d be a pathologist, but ended up loving Family Medicine. Did residency in my community, and stayed here for a PCP job. Loved working with patients. Was in an independent clinic, saw patients in hospital & nursing homes. Was okay until the electronic health record came along & changed my relationship with my job. And I had become a pill pusher - rather than knowing how to help the root causes, I only treated symptoms. Very frustrating. Now I worked all day, worked all night and was miserable. For 5 years I struggled to find balance where none existed.  I started looking at other options. I attended 3 conferences that taught me that Medicine could be different. An Ideal Medicine retreat, PriMed, and my first Lifestyle Medicine conference in 2013. I was hooked, and haven’t looked back. Got additional training, learned amazing things and met awesome people - my Tribe. My interests are in Lifestyle Medicine & physician Well-being. I want to save the world - and my community is a place to start. I’ve become involved, I’m happy, I am changing lives in different ways that what I though I’d be doing when I graduated." S 1 Ep 4 - Vegan Shirt Activism with Reyna Soto
On this episode of Thrive Bites, I talk with Reyna about veganism through her unique expression of shirt activism!  Reyna is a former High School Spanish teacher and School Counselor gone full-time small vegan business owner and Animal Rights Activist. The creative talent and graphic design work was created with tremendous help from Reyna's business partner and husband, Sam. Reyna and Sam are vegans of a combined 14 years. While living in LA for the past 3 years and running VeganShirts.com for the past 1.5 years, Reyna couldn't be happier running a business that is not only fun and encourages traveling across the U.S. and other countries for Vegan events but also promotes veganism through individualistic expression which to Reyna means puns of fun and veganized nostalgic fashion! "Be a walking billboard, wear awareness and share your message for your health, the animals, and the planet!"   Social Media Links:  Website- www.veganshirts.com  Email- reyna@veganshirts.com  Instagram- www.instagram.com/veganreyna  Facebook- www.facebook.com/theveganshirts *Interview views are opinions of the individual.
