A conversation about developing self-love and changing how you’re being with yourself.
Today’s episode is a replay of an amazing conversation I had with Alexandra (Nutritionist + Chef) IG: @atasteofwellbeing about the impact of self-love on your well being ACTION STEPS FROM THE EPISODE for developing self-love and changing how you’re being with yourself: 1. Get really really honest about how you actually are with yourself on a day-to-day basis. 2. Make a really conscious decision that you want to make this relationship change and that how you’ve discovered about how you’re being with yourself is no longer serving you anymore. \ 3. Meet yourself where you’re currently at. So, if you discover, when you’re reflecting on how you are being with yourself - that you are really, really not in a great place with yourself right now - you can’t then do what a lot of people do, which is expect to pendulum to swing you straight from a few affirmations to suddenly loving yourself. 4. Remember: YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE PERFECT ABOUT THIS. If you hit a block, it doesn’t matter, just recommit and say that the next day you’re going to be nicer to yourself and you’re going to just move into what that next phase for you is. 5. Grab yourself a jar and label it your self-love jar or self-appreciation jar. Write down 1-2 things that you appreciate, like, value, or even love about yourself every single day. As it fills up, you will start to get a visual about how much there is to value and appreciate about you as a human being! Stopping negative chatter: Say STOP to the thoughts that are coming in. Acknowledge them. Then question, is that thought true? Then question it again, is that thought really true? Spending time alone is a wonderful way to recharge, reflect and get to know who you are but feeling lonely is painful. Loneliness means you feel disconnected. I totally get how you feel this used to be me! But the thing that has helped me to get past this and the thing that helps my clients the most is structure and routine! WHY I'M IN THERAPY AND HOW I'M LEARNING TO MANIFEST WHAT I WANT.
Therapy, manifestation and self-care it's all happening in this episode. I had an experience just before lockdown which set off a whole ton of triggers mirroring to me that I still had some work. Food & booze aren't the only unhealthy  binges.
You have permission to do whatever you like in your life. Want to eat a cake? do it. Want a glass of wine? have a glass of wine, want to have a one night stand? go ahead.  But before you go ahead and do the thing you want to do you need to stop and ask yourself why do I want this?  What are the feelings and the result I am looking to get? In other words, what is my true motivation behind this action? I had a few DM's asking about my opinion on having wine at the end of a hard week and if I thought it was healthy. CALLING ALL PEOPLE PLEASERS IT’S TIME TO STOP!
I felt like I had punched in the gut when in a discussion with someone they said " you do realise that by being a people you are actually a liar" but it was the kind of gut-punch I needed because framed like that I became more determined to work on managing my mind differently and to get better at speaking my truth because the harsh reality was the people pleaser in me had been ruling the roost for far too many years, she thought to get what she wanted which was to be accepted, loved, valued and respected that she had mould herself to fit in with the other people and their lives and to go out of her way to make others happy no matter what the cost to her life and happiness. In her mind speaking up about her own wants. desires and dreams she would be rejected. This played out in every area of my life family, friendships, work-ships,  romantic partnerships and it left me feeling empty, dissatisfied and resentful towards people, situations and myself! I recorded this episode esepecially for you, my fellow people-pleasing friend, to show you how you can start to change things for yourself in all areas of your life, so you can get stop feeling resentful and annoyed at things but just covering it with a smile and an "I'm ok" to show you it's safe to be vulnerable and ask for what you want and need, that doing so will not result in rejection from anyone who is meant to be in your life. How lack of sleep impacts your mind & what it did to me in Vegas!
The jet lag and sleep deprivation hit me hard on my recent West Coast trip, I was actually shocked by how much harder it was to manage my mind and therefore my decisions! So I needed to share with you, because if you are not prioritising your sleep then seriously what are you doing? Getting enough sleep I swear is the magic pill to success, it just makes everything on a physical and mental level easier to manage, from food decisions to motivating yourself to get your butt to the gym or take a walk, or just to get shit done! So if you know that you are a prioritising late-night scrolling or Netflixing over your zzz's then it's time to get a grip on this sabotaging behaviour. Because yes my friend it is sabotage because I know you know how important sleep is, so if you're choosing to numb and stimulate your mind over resting and restoring it, then it's time for you to call yourself out on your own excuses and BS and start making life easier for yourself. Why you keep attracting the wrong partner.

Anything that truly brings you joy. - So your solution is to persist with grabbing temporary moments of joy, numbing and relief from your reliable friends' wine and food. - Turning to these friends means you can stay in your comfort zone and don't have to face dealing with the real uncomfortable shit. - Your FEAR is the number one the reason you will stay stuck in this cycle for the rest of your life if you don't get your brave panties on and start facing it, pushing into it and passed it. - The goal is never to become FEARLESS, we need FEAR to keep us safe from stuff that could actually harm us. - The goal is to use FEAR as a mirror for shit we need to deal with to help us avoid being on our deathbeds with a whole load of life regrets. "I'm too old" is BS no matter what your thoughts tell you
Have you got a self-imposed time limit on things in your life, if I haven't by...then what's the point or do you use your age as an excuse to not start something?  It is one of the most nonsense excuses I hear from people as to why they can't start something and day to day I don't give a hoot about my age (nearly 42)! - But just proving that we can all have one of those days where things that normally don't bother us suddenly become an issue I had to share a fucking crazy age rabbit hole I went down recently. My Shirley Ghremilin was on a roll as I was having a chat with a woman about a potential course I want to do. ARE YOU WASTING YOUR LIFE WAITING FOR THE PERFECT TIME?
Do you find yourself not starting things because you're waiting for the magical and perfect time to start? The time when taking a leap will seem less scary, the time that guarantees you won't fail, the time when it will be easier so you won't have to try so hard if you are you are literally wasting your life BECAUSE THE PERFECT TIME DOES NOT EXIST. Changing you and your life will always require taking a leap of faith, being prepared to push through the mental resistance and FEAR being ok that you might fail, but if you do it doesn't matter because you will learn a lesson and then try again, because that is living your life. Sitting back doing nothing and staying in your comfort zone is the road to being on your deathbed with a life full of regrets, so you need to ask yourself is that what I want for myself?
