Episode 5: Concluding Thoughts

I pull directly from the Church from the Nazarene’s Articles of Faith throughout this episode. The Articles of Faith can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/2p89rz5p

Additionally I use a direct quote from page 109 of the, “Global Wesleyan Dictionary of Theology”  which I failed to make clear in the recording.

God in Christ has acted to create one new community and humanity, not a multiplicity of unrelated groups and individuals. Yet the church is made up of individuals. …There is thus one church and the church is concretely present in many communities that worship Christ.

Truesdale, Albert, Henry H. Knight, Karen Strand Winslow, and K. E. Brower. Global Wesleyan Dictionary of Theology. Kansas City, MO: Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City, 2013.

For the, “What is a Human?” portion I consulted H. Orton Wiley as well as quoted from the Catholic Catechism and reffered to a Youtube video of a Catholic Priest. Links and citations below.

I mention a convergence of factors that resulted in the current practice and understanding on online church. This is a reference to the concepts of articulation and assemblage found in the Text, “Culture and Technology” by Slack and Wise. My point here, which I believe is clear in the recording, is not that we would not have “online church” if it were not for COVID. That is of course false. My point is that, generally speaking, we would very likely think of it differently and it would probably be less common.

I mention the initial reactionary phase we found ourselves in within the church and how proud I am pf church leaders. Though I do not use the terminology this points to the idea of “resilience” in the Slack and Wise text. Resilience as accepting the state of things and adapting and bending to the circumstances accordingly.  I then urge that we can now move to a “influence” mode.
