Let’s Talk About Meditation with Tony Gonzalez | Solo Episode 1

Welcome to the first SOLO episode of Wide Open, with me, Tony Gonzalez. These solo episodes will cover some of the subjects and learning techniques that have been influential to my journey, helping me get better, stronger, and smarter.  This week’s episode will cover something I can’t imagine living without: meditation.

Before answering some audience questions, I’ll talk about my history with meditation, and how you can develop your practice from scratch to start learning how to calm your mind and filter out unnecessary noise using simple techniques. During these difficult and unprecedented times, it’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about meditation and how it can help keep you calm and focused.

Thanks for listening, and make sure to follow me on socials at @tonygonzalez88 to keep up with future episodes and submit questions to the show. Thanks for listening.

Thriving on Fear and the Journey Towards Redemption with Boxing Legend Mike Tyson

Thriving on Fear and the Journey Towards Redemption with Boxing Legend Mike Tyson

You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, and the same goes for heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson. The New York-native’s troubled youth was full of tough times, loss, and years in and out of crime. But along the way, Mike’s natural talent as a fighter and truly unique human being was discovered and led to him winning the heavyweight boxing title at the unheard-of age of 20. He’d go on to become one of the most naturally talented athletes and fiercest competitors to ever live, earning numerous titles and hundreds of millions of dollars in winnings, a fortune he’d lose nearly just as fast while struggling with toxic media attention, drug abuse, and failed relationships. I sat down with Mike at his Tyson Ranch, home to his latest cannabis-focused venture and production company, to discuss the intimate moments of his journey, many of which you haven’t heard via the media. Prepare for an emotional and intense conversation about thriving on fear, searching for redemption, struggling with self-control, and learning from the past in search of a better future. This is the true story of Mike Tyson’s second act.

How to Know Yourself & Thrive with Three of the Sports Industry’s Most Powerful Women [Special Super Bowl Episode]

How to Know Yourself & Thrive with Three of the Sports Industry’s Most Powerful Women [Special Super Bowl Episode]

This week on Wide Open, I'm joined by three of the most inspiring, successful, and 100% badass women in the sports and entertainment industry. Constance Schwartz-Morini co-founded SMAC Entertainment alongside Michael Strahan, a multi-dimensional talent management, music, branding and production company that represents the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Deion Sanders, and Erin Andrews. Kim Pegula was a child living homeless on the streets of Seoul before immigrating to the U.S., and later, becoming the owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres alongside her husband, Terry Pegula. Last but not least, Tracy Perlman, is a veteran NFL executive who currently holds the influential post of Senior Vice President of communications and marketing, overseeing all player and legend relationships. What these women all share in common is that not only are they some of the most influential people in their respective industries but also that they’ve had to overcome a vast amount of adversity to get there. Along the way, they've learned a whole lot about patience, finding balance, ego, hustle, and how to thrive in a male-dominated industry. In our conversation, they break down these experiences and life-lessons, as well as provide tips on everything from how to nail job interviews to overcoming sexism in the workplace.

How to Live Beyond Meat (and According to the Facts) with Ethan Brown

How to Live Beyond Meat (and According to the Facts) with Ethan Brown

Do you ever think about a world beyond meat? Ethan Brown does. He is the founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, a plant-based meat company in which I’m a proud investor. Brown’s team is pushing their mission of creating The Future of Protein® by way of delicious plant-based meat that’s made without GMOs, soy, gluten or artificially produced ingredients. Ethan’s frequent trips to his father’s dairy farm taught him a lot about our relationship with meat and animals - a focus and passion that led to him studying how we can create a more sustainable future with less reliance on animals and more scientific study. He found animal protein is made up of four simple ingredients that can be easily replicated using plants and used this formula to create a range of products like Beyond Burgers, Beyond Beef and Beyond Sausage. Brown took the company public in 2019 with a billion-dollar valuation, one of the largest IPOs in recent history. Beyond Meat is available in retail stores and some of your favorite fast food places like Dunkin’, Del Taco and Carl’s Jr. Brown is a visionary who’s deeply focused on innovation. He came on Wide Open to discuss his upbringing, how he got into studying animal proteins under a microscope, and the various ways he’s devoted his life to thinking differently about how humans eat, live, and learn. Michael Strahan on the Mental Toll of Switching Careers

Michael Strahan on the Mental Toll of Switching Careers

My good friend, Michael Strahan, came on the podcast to discuss life after the NFL — a subject that hits close to home in my own life. Michael’s been able to graciously jump into a handful of new and exciting roles, from being a co-anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America, to starting his own talent agency SMAC Entertainment, and launching his own apparel brand, MSX, in partnership with JC Penney. Michael came on Wide Open to teach us all about how ‘ownership is power,’ and that professional athletes, from NFL to NBA to MLB, have a whole lot more to give the world once they retire from the field.
