82. Building Better Boundaries w/ Chautè Thompson, LMHC
One of the biggest statements I hear from women is “I don’t know who I am” And when you’re unsure of who you are, your voice (aka your personal power) is compromised where you: Accept what’s unacceptable Entertain relationships that don’t compliment you Never speak up for yourself Conform in order to be validated And when you continuously downplay your needs and what you value, you discredit your existence and your freedom! Setting boundaries is something that get's overlooked but in actuality, your boundaries are a necessity! It’s a major part of your self-love foundation and when you are boundary less, you have no limits on how you allow others to treat you and most importantly, you haven’t valued your own boundaries with yourself. On this week's podcast episode, join me as I talk with have a conversation with Chautè Thompson, a licensed psychotherapist who does extensive work with families of separation and divorce to discuss the importance of boundaries, why many have difficulty setting them, and how to start implementing them in a healthy way. When attempting to please others takes precedence over your wellbeing and quality of life, then chances are you’ve developed a habit of being a “people pleaser”. 56. Divorcing Your Story
The narrative that you're attached to mentally is the foundation in how you feel about yourself, your life and others. From that narrative, a manifestation occurs based upon the story in which we believe. When you physically detach from a relationship, it doesn't automatically remove yourself emotionally and mentally from that experience. Feeling rejected from a relationship can often leave a person to question themselves. Phrases & Thoughts such as:‎ ‎“I don’t trust no one!”‎ ‎“No one is to be trusted!”‎ ‎“There are no loyal people nowadays”‎ ‎“If I open myself up again, I will get hurt”‎ Are surface responses with much deeper meanings that deprive a person of real ‎connection, being vulnerable and living authentically.‎ When someone has experienced broken trust from their past, it can easily rob them of ‎their present and/or future relationships.‎ You desire something real but hesitant on being authentic.‎ You crave deep connection but withdraw from being vulnerable.‎ How does a person trust again after trust has been broken?‎ In this episode, join me as I give three things that you must learn to start regaining trust ‎again.‎ Order my book: "Divorce Your Story: A Woman's Guide to Heal & Thrive After Divorce" - http://www.divorceyourstorybook.com. 36. Don't Overlook The Person Who Compliments You!
Sometimes when you're only focused on the external attributes of a person, you overlook the intangible assets that are vital to go through life successfully. This doesn't imply that attraction and/or the ability to financially take care of themselves aren't important, however, it's important to also take inventory of the internal foundation this person is standing on as well. Many skip the fact, that while keeping a solid relationship, there will be hardships that you will have to encounter together and if the external attributes are the ONLY things you're basing your relationship off of, then your foundation will not be resilient enough to whether the storms of life. There was a video that went viral with image consultant Kevin Samuels and a lady who wanted a "6 figure man". Being your own hero involves showing up for yourself by being committed to what you say you want for your life! It's easy to look at someone to save you and the truth is, that isn't anyone else's responsibility but your own. This year has been a challenge for us all and feelings of defeat, feeling powerless and losing hope can arise. I was so inspired by actor Chadwick Boseman and his ability to be his own hero despite of his battle with colon cancer before he passed. This shows the definition of a person who became the hero of their own story. 27. Don't Make Your Moves Based On Your Ex.
Your ex isn't your competition. What does this mean? It means that whatever they choose to do or don't do shouldn't determine what you need to do for yourself. If they decided to jump into another relationship quickly does that mean you should? Because they choose to not take a designated season to work within does that mean you shouldn't? Contrary to what many believe, your ex isn't and shouldn't be as relevant when moving forward. It's important to focus on who's relevant and that is yourself and what is required from you to live an intentional life going forward. 26. Seeking The Closure You Never Got
Not understanding why a relationship ended can bring feelings of rejection, stagnation and one’s own personal attempt to figure it out only to be mentally & emotionally flooded. When desiring closure, you may have heard the statement “Find your own closure” OR “No one can give you closure but yourself”. Chances are this level of advice may come from a good place but this isn’t the advice that many need at that moment. Proper guidance is necessary to help develop that closure that you may have not received from your past relationship. This week is a past recording I did on Facebook called “Seeking The Proper Closure”, this will give you reasons why some choose to not give closure as well as 3 things that you can do to establish a level of closure from this previous relationship. 25. "Queenology" - Royalty Is Your Destiny w/ Bishop R.C. Blakes, Jr.
Divorces and breakups can leave residue of inadequacy, lack and confidence and even the mindset of believing that your worth as a woman has diminished. Tying your worth to a relationship will always leave you in limbo on your worth as an individual. Your "Queen" isn't based upon past or current circumstances, it's based on the fact that as a woman, you were already given the gift of being a Queen. However, there are many women who has either forgotten this or never realized it. This week, my guest Bishop RC Blakes of Blakes Ministries will be discussing his movement "Queenology"  and why this is the prescription that is needed for a women to tap into her own inner queen despite of her history as well as principles that you can apply to start owning your crown. As speaker Eric Thomas says "If you're going to go through pain, then get an reward from it" Many often let their pain become a ceiling where it keeps them stagnant and content with being uncomfortably comfortable. They lose vision beyond where they are due to the unexpected circumstances only to remain a victim and not becoming victor. However, it's in those challenging times that your pain births power in you that you never believed was there and purpose you thought you never had. 20. Got Trust Issues?
Trust is defined as "firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something". When this trust seems to be broken thoughts of fear, isolation, and even self-sabotage can take place. However, underneath those thoughts of trust issues is also another layer for deep connection. Here's a truth: "You can never experience real connection and intimate relationships when you don’t lead from a place of building a trust" This doesn't mean to blindly trust people neither does it mean to not guard your heart, but are you making your heart so guarded where you disguise it as protection to never establish real connection? Do you think that this is a "safe" practice to protect yourself from being hurt? It only takes a mental shift to begin a new chapter.  We can often believe that what has taken place in our lives is the final chapter not realizing that it was only a season. 17. Using Journaling As A Healing Tool w/ Renee Ross
From social media posts to even texting, we have all used writing to express ourselves in some way. Did you know that  journaling is an effective self-care technique for your emotional health? It gives you the chance start putting those feelings down on paper instead of ignoring them. It manages the stress, depression, anxiety and boosts your overall mood. Our world teaches us to "keep things moving" with no dealings of any kind. We're told to move on but we're not dealing with what we're attempting to move on from. With less than $2 and 20 minutes 3 times a week, you can start expressing your real feelings on paper by facing them and not running from them. This week my guest, Journal Strategist - Renee Ross will join us to discuss her story on how journaling has helped her as a single mom and when she lost her father, reasons on why you should journal, how your social media is a journal (something that many don't see), and ways you can start your journey of journaling today. There's this misconception that when the relationship is over, all feelings are gone when that's hardly even the case. 15. Mental & Emotional Health is Your Self-Care w/ Dr. Tiffany Bellamy
Self care is often encouraged as "treat yourself and you'll feel better". Now make no mistake there is nothing wrong with an "indulge" but we don't want to confuse that as the only source of care. Our "Real" care is sometimes overlooked due to not confronting those things that we need to face. But what happens when they don't get addressed? Do we really put the "past" behind or is it often traveled with us? Ending a relationship is not about just walking away from the person, it's more about your mental and emotional health moving forward. My guest, Psychologist, Dr. Tiffany Bellamy will join us this week to give ma more detailed understanding of what care is, the long term ramifications when it's overlooked as well as things you can do in this season to make your mental and emotional health a priority. 12. You Can Run But You Can't Hide
Running from your problems is a race that you will never win. In this season of the coronavirus pandemic, it's causing everyone to pause and slow down. From events being cancelled, schools closing, people telecommuting, to even bars and restaurants being closed, being able to "occupy" your time has become limited. 10. Why many fear what they want?
Can you believe that the fear of having something better scares people? Yes, getting and having something better is a fear for many.  It's almost as if living in misery has become so normalized that anything else seems abnormal. Divorce or even a relationship that has ended can create thoughts of fear, rejection, uncertainty and failure. These kind of thoughts can keep you in a season of your life that could last for months, years, decades or even a lifetime.  Operating from a place of fear puts limits on so many possibilities for you! It creates a mediocre life that you never wanted only to wish you would’ve lived a more fearless life later. Tune in on this week's topic "Why many fear what they want?" March is Women’s History Month and as I think about all the women who’ve made an impact in the world and even in our homes and families, it only indicates the tenacity and boldness that we have always had.⁣  The reason why we love the women who have been an influence in our lives was not because they had a “problem free” life but the ability to become resilient by not running from life challenges.⁣ Have you even thought about how phenomenal you are? Or have you been so concerned about what you don't have, what has happened or what you've done? Join Tonya Carter this week as she discusses what could be stopping you from celebrating yourself.
