A Leader removes fear. As a realtor since 2000, I have seen my share of “turbulence” in our market. This service is free of charge and no selling is required. Wed, March 11 at approx noon we all heard the news. Covid-19 or Coronavirus has now been declared a pandemic. As has happened with past pandemics and other world events, I’ve been getting questions from many of you via email and clients asking specific questions on what this means. How does affect financing of a home sale? My deposit is based on stock values, what do I do? Rest assured, I’ve heard the biggest problems and also solved them over my 20 years in real estate. Although this particular pandemic is new, this isn’t the first one Ive had to help explain to many of you. Right after I entered real estate, SARS happened. It was on a different scale but still caused a lot of concern. It taught me to remind people to distinguish between opinion and advice. More than ever, this is the important thing. Over the last few days, the local community message boards and real estate groups I belong to have been fired up with concerns about how the Coronavirus issues will affect the way people visit open houses. First of all, in times like this, panic isn’t the way to handle it. Being cautious and safe about how you choose to buy and sell real estate has always been in style. In fact, I stopped doing traditional open houses many years ago for other reasons. Letting complete strangers that have not been qualified or ID checked into the home or condo you own has never made sense to me. How many of you let strangers wander into your home for any reason? None I would think. So amazing to be able to connect with all of you on this level. One thing I know for a fact is NO one wants to meet with a realtor in the early stages of any move. I get it. I’ve know some great ones but I’ve also spent time with some who literally wear the 🏆 around their next like Flavor Flav. 😂 One guy actually uses his plastic trophy 🏆 collection as his backdrop for a video. Can you imagine being in room with that guy? I can’t.
And you don’t have to either. What I decided to get really good at is becoming the best listener and storyteller I could possibly be in what I do. And the best practice for this is actually telling YOUR stories. Not my own. I don’t fill my Instagram with every listing or sold. I tell stories about the ones that I’ve chosen to highlight. Not all make the cut so if yours is unique better make sure we talk before you just have a realtor throw it online.
Doing the bare minimum is what gets you the bare minimum interest and offers. No vision=No value. Don’t forget this. I will go as far as saying if you can’t find someone you know to tell your story, you may be better off doing it yourself vs having someone tell a weak or made up one.

For the first time in 20 years, four different school boards are on rotating strikes this week in Ontario. I remember back in the 80s when it happened and have a great story to share here. As a professional negotiator, I would love to step in and solve this issue today if I could. Instead I am focusing on what I can do. And the same goes for my amazing clients and friends in education, health care, police, fire, nursing etc that require far more than 9-5 commitment.
