REgen Elective Session 4, God’s Sovereignty & You
“Houston we have a problem.” This line comes from the movie Apollo 13. An
astronaut made this comment to Mission Control. Those in the control room at Houston, Texas however, were incapable of being totally in control of the situation of those in the badly damaged spacecraft. In reality, Mission Control in Houston should be called, “Mission Respond!” They could only respond to the situation. As you read through the following text and questions, think about your view of God. Do you see Him as Mission Respond, or Mission Control?
Charles Spurgeon said, “There is nothing for which the children [of God] ought more earnestly contend than the doctrine of their Master over all creation – the Kingship of God over all the works of His own hands – the Throne of God and His right to sit upon that Throne…. It is God upon His throne whom we trust.

REgen 2020 Elective Session 2, Mission Drift
Mission drift is a ubiquitous phenomenon which plagues nonprofit organisations internationally. It is like growing weeds in the garden – do nothing and it will happen. Although the influence of funders on mission drift is well established within the industry, there are other, less obvious mechanisms which can result in organisational mission drift.
Through his research on faith-based organisations in New Zealand, Peter Dobbs (CEO Christian Camping New Zealand) has identified four key mechanisms which influence organisational mission drift. Awareness and understanding of these influencing mechanisms will better equip leaders of nonprofits to identify potential risk factors within their agencies and protect against the subversive pressure of mission drift; awareness, analysis, and action can arrest and even reverse organisational mission drift, more effectively aligning nonprofits with their core mission and values.
