Tracing Owls

Tracing Owls

By Darwin's Deviations

A quirky but nuanced exploration into Fortean philosophy, focusing on the roles of Mother Nature, the Trickster and the experiencer in shaping phenomena, with tremendous doses of humor, trickery, but most importantly honesty. Cryptids, UFOs, Paranormal phenomena, High strangeness and Fortean anomalies, do they all possibly originate from the same source? Are they a mirror to our own subconsciousness, and what may they teach us about ourselves? We seek to catalogue the overlooked, spotlight the disregarded, and remind that the cosmic expanse is much greater than our understanding of it!

Live in the Mystery - with Alan B. Smith
Live in the Mystery - with Alan B. Smith
Alan ends the month expanding our minds with an open-ended discussion on consciousness, manifestation and co-creation! As the host of Mystic Lounge, and creator of the Half Light documentary, Alan has spoken with some of the greatest minds in spirituality and the paranormal. Hey, he even had me on as a guest! After a miscommunication in scheduling, we ended up recording completely unprepared, so as expected in such a situation we ended up chatting about focusing one's intent, the reality-changing influence of mere thoughts and language, our role in the overarching cosmic consciousness, and how each of us together may contribute towards manifesting and co-creating a more positive paranormal! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Alan B. Porning the Paranormal
Porning the Paranormal
Utilizing sexy analogies, I attempt to reveal the hidden eroticism of the paranormal experience, and how our persistent efforts to compile evidence of the same reduces it to an objectified pornography! Are we voyeuristically obsessed with peeping into the experiences of others? Is photographic evidence just a soulless masturbatory husk of the actual experience? And why do we prefer to pleasure ourselves with indirect quickies instead of opening up to the real thing? ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Outro music obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

Alex Matsuo: A Strong Independent Advocate
Alex Matsuo: A Strong Independent Advocate
Paranormal investigator Alex Matsuo helps shed light on various ethical issues within the ghost hunting field! Alex advocates for inclusivity and ethical practice within the world of mainstream paranormal investigation, as well as addressing instances of misconduct and hoaxing which arise in the community way too often. Today we joined forces (and frustrations) to discuss issues of sexism within the field and their roots in the Spiritualism movement, the obscure history of the not-so-savory concept of "ghost hunting", cultural appropriation within popular ghost hunting tropes, as well as the questionable power dynamics within the field which often may encourage abuse and exploitation. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Alex Matsuo for openly shedding light on various ethical issues within the community which go largely unacknowledged. Scientific Gateways - with Blake and Karen from MonsterTalk
Blake and Karen help debunk dismissive presumptions by advocating the relevancy of paranormal skepticism in today's world! As the hosts of MonsterTalk, the long-running science show about monsters, they have interviewed a plethora of academics who research belief in monsters from a social science viewpoint, despite modern skepticism's tendency towards rationalism and reductionist-materialism. But if monsters don't exist, why are we still talking about them, and what can they actually teach us? Blake and Karen make the case for monsters as gateways towards scientific thought, sources of historical and cultural insight, and personifications which help us form our own beliefs and suspicions. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Blake Smith and Dr. Karen Stollznow for this amazing and insightful conversation, as well as all the support and kind reception they provide our community of small indie creators ❤️ Check out their podcast MonsterTalk HERE or on monstertalk.org For extra content check their YouTube channel, or if you wish to hear more F-bombs check their Patreon as well. Dr. Cogswell administers a dose of hopeful skepticism exposing the inherent weirdness of the world, and the human mind! Though Chris is often called in to chat about the science behind UFOs, for my show we rather dug into his other passions: philosophy and ethics! We discuss what drives people to believe in UFOs, how this same belief is systematically exploited, the scientific limitations of truth seeking, and whether the truth is actually a public good. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Dr. Chris Cogswell for allowing me to flex his credentials, despite his belief of being just a regular dude. We are ending the year with a wacky 4-person Kentucky Fried Chicken Coop! An amazing assortment of weirdo artists, Kris, Christina and Todd, join to completely subvert the traditional podcasting approach towards the Kelly-Hopkinsville goblin incident. Instead of bothering you with the same old spiel of presenting case details, we tear the case to shreds to rather discuss the creative impact this incident had on pop culture, spawning the Little Green Men trope and forever incorporating goblins in the annals of ufology. But were these goblins really aliens? Might they have just been a bunch of owls? Or fairies? Nature elementals? Or how about psychedelic manifestations induced by bioluminescent mushrooms!? Kat returns to talk crappy mediums, fossilized turds and mutant dough!  Our original plan was to discuss Kat's experience being subjct to racist and sexist profiling by so-called mediums, but as we realized it was all a bunch of crap, we dedicated the episode to crap itself: Coprolites, shitty meteors, neanderthal turds, square poop of wombats and even poop-eating horses!  Then we get hungry and discuss the gross intricacies of bread-making, as Stanley the Living Leaven overflows his bucket in an attempt to take over the planet! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Katrina for wasting $60 on fake mediums, and who knows how much more on shiny rocks which might as well be polished caveman turd! Cole and I cringe trying to understand why Christians are obsessed with discovering living dinosaurs!  Mokele-mbembe, Burrunjor, Ropen, even Nessie: All favorites of the oblivious everyday cryptid fanboy, but what if we told you there is a seedy dark underbelly of cryptozoology infiltrated by Bible-thumping Christian fundamentalists!?  The pseudoscinetific world of cryptozoology has forever attracted the likes of Young Earth creationists, hellbent on disproving real science by locating biologically-inaccurate dinosaurs spawned from the fever dreams and drawings of 19th century colonial imperialists.  In the spirit of creationism, Cole and I do absolutely zero research and proceed to spew shit in a psychotic rage for your listening pleasure!  Just remember kids, if a cryptozoologist tries to convince you of pterosaurs existing in the modern day, chances are they're appropriating a native culture, and your favorite hobby, to cram religious propaganda down your throat! ============== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Cole Herrold from New World Explorers Society for bravely and honestly sharing the impact paranormal experiences had on his life! Queer Eye for that Gray Guy - with Fred Andersson
Swedish paranormal TV producer Fred provides us a queer eye to the writings of Gray Barker! Yes, the myth-maker, the charlatan, the trickster, and one of the staple names of old school ufology!  But what many do not know is that Barker, throughout his whole life, hid a fabulously colorful secret! One which at the time he could only express via a creative outlet: UFO poetry.  Fred and I, through the example of Barker's book "They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers", discuss UFO literature as an art form, the significance of creative writing in personal expression, and the role of high strangeness in providing solace to the LGBT community. ️‍🌈 ============== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Fred Andersson for openly sharing an LGBT perspective on high strangeness we would not be able to hear otherwise! Full DissClosure - with Aaron from I Had To Say It
Hobbyist rambler Aaron joins to provide an outsider's perspective on the nonsensical world of the paraweird!  Our little community has a certain gatekeeping problem: We isolate ourselves in safe space bubbles and refuse to talk with strangers, out of a fear that they may challenge our kooky beliefs.  So in an attempt to be more inclusive, I decided to invite a guy who professionally complains about mundane annoyances and ask him what he thinks about these weird interests of ours.  Unexpectedly, I got pulled into a discussion about interdimensionality, government conspiracy, haunted graveyards and ridiculously expensive hammers! The greatest John Keel fanboy is invited to share his knowledge on the greatest Keel knockoff: Gray Barker!  As a resident of Point Pleasant, and information jockey at the Mothman Museum, Steve Ward is all too familiar with Keel, old school ufology, high strangeness, and even the secret of Mothman's shiny heiny!  However, for this interview I have decided to challenge Steve's comfort zone and discuss Gray Barker, a known Keel critic, trickster and myth-maker, yet also a personality Steve had the pleasure of meeting in person.  But along the way we get distracted with Jim Moseley's hoaxing shenanigans, Albert Bender's erotic fantasies, even Trevor Constable's pursuit of flying amoebas! Experiencer of high strangeness Drew Demler shares his journey of personal discovery through paranormal phenomena.  He recently shared his story publicly for the first time on 6 Degrees of John Keel, and today he joins me to reflect on how coming out as an experiencer influenced his life and changed his perception of the phenomenon.  Drew has had run ins with an enigmatic owl, close contact experiences with shadowy entities, CE5 group meditations and has been witness to countless UFOs which seem to be manifesting around him... or possibly even from him!  We discuss the possibility of Drew being a physical medium manifesting UFOs as extensions of his own being, but also as a cosmic grand symphony of which he is the conductor. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Drew Demler for reaching out and being brave enough to not just take another shot at sharing his story publicly, but also at speculating on the nature and origin of his personal experiences ❤️ Drew later notified me that our conversation influenced him immensely, and that he is gaining a more positive outlook on the phenomenon. Writer, artist and mystical hermit Red Pill Junkie reflects on his year-long alchemical process manifesting artwork for the Ufology Tarot project!  We discuss Tarot cards as talismanic objects and the creative process as a form of mediumship, imbuing art with intent, archetypes and hidden symbology.  Along the way we often lose our train of thought and discuss seances, the intricate history of ufology, Biblically accurate angels, and the not-so-secret but equally enigmatic group behind the Ufology Tarot project: The Excluded Middle! A Flaggerdoot of Jackalope - with Jordan Heath and Todd Purse
Jordan and Todd join my first roundtable to discuss our favorite horny bunny: The Jackalope!  This chimeric critter sewn together from animal carcasses has been a staple of American folklore for ages!... or at least since the 1930s, as the Jackalope is a relatively modern folkloric invention concocted for the sole purpose of profit. Good ol' American capitalism!  But apart from selling useless shit for a quick buck, this murdered bunny conveys Americana in so many different ways, expressing small town community, settlement of the West, folk art, scientific innovation, and the duality of the real and the imaginal.  Yes, prepare yourself for the most intricate discussion you will ever hear on the Jackalope, as we hop into this rabbit hole and completely lose our sense of time! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Jordan Heath of Campfire: Something Something for allowing his cute corgi to participate in the discussion. We are a very inclusive podcast and allow all species' voices to be heard! Check out his podcast elaborately named Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling Follow them on Instagram @campfire.tales.podcast ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Todd Purse for coming into this discussion completely unprepared so Jordan and I may blow his mind! Reflective Introspective - with Kris Galeano
We spend the episode chipping at the walls and peeling through the layers of an up-and-coming weirdo artist!  Kris is the creator of Weird Wednesdays, a weekly cartoonist homage to the offbeat liminal entities we all know and love.  He is also a huge fan of my show! So I decided to invite him over and expose our shy weirdo-in-training to the mystical experience of breaking into the podcasting world via his favorite show, but along the way we both end up reflecting on why we are drawn to the unusual, how the paranormal influences our creativity and perception of the universe, and that genuine podcasting can oftentimes result in a spiritual exchange between the host and the guest. ============== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Kris Galeano for his bravery and authenticity! This field definitely needs more people like Kris who are open to share their thoughts and grow as they navigate the weirdspace ❤️ Follow him on Instagram @kris_galeano  ...and check his Weird Wednesdays project by searching #weirdwednesdays ============== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Luke attempts to prove the relevancy of his folkloric knowledge by using it to analyze the lore of Pokemon! 🤣  As today is the release date of the new games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we have decided to exploit the popularity of our favorite game franchise by discussing the intricate folkloric and biological motifs present throughout its character design and world building.  Animism, ecology, yokai, fairy lore, ghost stories, cursed music, even child death... and subsequent resurrection! All of this and more, from an innocent media mogul you believed is just for little kids! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Luke Greensmith of LukeLore Podcast for sitting down to chat about sentient garbage bags and eldritch abominations despite having a fever. Karly joins to discuss mediumship as an art form, Tarot as a tool of storytelling, and the relevancy of divination in today's diversified paranormal sphere.  Through her journey of self-reconstruction, Karly has learned to apply Tarot for the purposes of shadow work and narrative building, helping experiencers piece together the meanings behind their personal folklores.  She sets all cards on the table and shares her personal story of overcoming a conditioned belief system, the destruction and rebuilding of her own identity, and synchronistic events which first landed a deck of cards into her open hand. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Karly, The Village Tarot Witch for her immense honesty and bravery in sharing her struggles with faith, personal identity and institutionalized oppression. Invasion of the Culture Snatchers - with Cracking Cryptids and Curios
Matt and Angel lose their minds digging through the questionable origins of beloved international cryptids!  Starting a cryptid podcast just as a fun way to talk about monsters, their desire for proper research oftentimes leads them head first into the dark underbelly of our historical past they never anticipate! Cultural appropriation, colonial imperialism, and even blatant racism have been a staple of cryptozoology since its inception.  Has this changed at all in modern times, or are we now repurposing these stolen cultural icons to sell cheap products to the masses? To answer this, we also take a brief dive into Matt and Angel's favorite pastime: Discussing shitty cryptid movies! We almost get eaten by ghost sharks along the way 🤣 ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Matt and Angel from Cracking Cryptids and Curios for sharing their first guest appearance with my show, providing so many hard laughs along the way and giving me a sense of hope that casual cryptid podcasts can actually do great research and focus on the cultural complexity of these topics ❤️ Check out their podcast Cracking Cryptids and Curios HERE Follow them on Twitter @CrackingCurios or Instagram @crackingcryptids ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

Greening the Paranormal - with Dr. Jack Hunter
Dr. Jack Hunter administers a healthy dose of ecological and animistic thought into our pre-concieved notions on the nature of paranormal phenomena!  He is an anthropologist exploring the borderlands of consciousness, religion, ecology and the paranormal, with his book "Greening the Paranormal" emphasizing the inherent connections between paranormal phenomena and the natural processes in our environment.  Today, I put my biologist cap on and sat down with Dr. Hunter to discuss physical mediumship, the connections between animistic and Gaianistic thought, symbiosis as a driving force of evolution, and how multidisciplinary approaches may help us better understand the complexity of phenomena. I highly recommend reading his book "Greening the Paranormal: Exploring the Ecology of Extraordinary Experience", which you may find on Amazon ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Dr. Jack Hunter for being such a nice, open and thoughtful guest! For Halloween, Landen shares spooky stories of his former job as an autopsy technician!  Spending almost 8 years of his life in the death investigation field, he has witnessed quite a fair share of disturbing sights: broken bones, dismemberment, castration, maggots and even liquefied remains, all in a day's work!  But after getting used to the smell of blood and rot, you start to realize that the single most terrifying aspect of death... is its unforeseen exposure of our own ineptitude in living! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Landen from Autopsy. Ecology of Ego Death
Ecology of Ego Death
Is the purpose behind paranormal phenomena to shatter our sense of self? Gradually chipping away at our manufactured identity until we are left exposed to the collective consciousness surrounding us?  And is there an invisible ecology of consciousness we are able to tap into once our individual barriers are demolished? I sure as hell don't know, but my ignorance and blindness never stopped me from rambling in a quasi-intellectual manner!  Today I express my personal thoughts on individuality, monism, the role of ego death in spiritual enlightenment, and even loss of identity as a process of establishing communication with the overarching source of our consciousness. For a more well-researched discussion on these topics grab a copy of Joshua Cutchin's new book Ecology of Souls: A New Mythology of Death & the Paranormal For another take on this topic, also check out Aliens: The First and Final Disclosure , a new book by Jeremy Vaeni ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

An Honest Storytelling - with Puxley
An Honest Storytelling - with Puxley
A mysterious British gentleman joins to share his life history of high strangeness.  Starting with terrifying events which imprinted onto him since early childhood, Puxley has been haunted by a plethora of paranormal phenomena for the past 5 decades: Poltergeist activity, levitation, time displacement, spook lights, manifested objects, albino deer and even a gnome encounter, to name a few.  Could all of this be a hitchhiker effect perpetually haunting him? Or is this the result of Puxley residing in the vicinity of Stonehenge? We don't know, and frankly we don't even care!  My guest does not seek publicity, sensationalism or any explanation of his experiences, only an authentic conversation with someone who will listen to an honest genuine man sharing his story. Along the way we also discuss synchronicities, psychedelics, the complexity of our inner ecosystem, and how phenomena leads to death of ego and unity with the overarching natural world. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Puxley for asking me to participate in this conversation. He later expressed that the experience of sharing his story had a very therapeutic effect and opened new doors for him to start piecing together the meaning behind these events ❤️ If you wish to reach out to Puxley, follow him on Twitter @JohnyMeatSack ...well fuck, he deleted Twitter, so reach out to him on Mastodon @puxley@mastodon.social ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls

Gorgonized at Birth - with Erin from Myth Monsters
Gorgonized at Birth - with Erin from Myth Monsters
Erin from Myth Monsters helps subvert the role of female monsters in Classic Greek mythology!  Medusa, Harpies, even the The Chimera for centuries have been used as slaying fodder of manly heroes hellbent on displaying their masculinity, to the detriment of the much subtler feminine natural forces. Just look at the story of Hades and Persephone (also discussed).  Are the feminine monsters of myth a cultural reflection of an overarching social issue we still face nowadays, and how do we rectify this?  Today we discuss contemporary society's reclaiming of the monstrous feminine, why monsters are much more intricate than heroes, and we even delve a bit into the portrayal of classic mythology in the gaming world! Yes, girls play games too, and oftentimes much more creatively ❤️ FACTUAL CORRECTION: I kinda used the term Harpy to refer to Sirens and probably confused poor Erin. It seems Sirens were officially the ladies punished by Demeter. Greek mythology is more convoluted than X-Men comics! To be fair, both Harpies and Sirens are bird-women, and equally badass 🤣 ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Erin from Myth Monsters Podcast for sharing her vast mythological knowledge, personal belief system and swaying the episode into a very intricate cultural and sociological discussion which reminds how mythology is still important even in today's world ❤️ Check out her podcast Myth Monsters HERE , remember, it's spelled Myth, not Mythical 🤣 Follow them on Twitter @mythmonsterspod or Instagram @mythmonsterspodcast Check out their website as well at mythmonsters.co.uk  Support them on Patreon at www.patreon.com/mythmonsters ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== FURTHER READING: How a Medusa Sculpture From a Decade Ago Became #MeToo Art | New York Times Problems in Greek Mythology and the Me Too Movement Harpies: Terrifying Bird-Women of Greek Mythology The Ancient Greek Goddess Chimera Embodied Fear of Females Bellerophon - The Works of Chivalry Kidnapped! The Swamp Monster Moans - with Todd Purse
The Swamp Monster Moans - with Todd Purse
Local Delawarian Todd joins for a wacky unmasking of the Selbyville Swamp Monster! Back in 1964 Fred Stevens, a resident of Selbyville, Delaware, decided to sell a load of newspapers by dressing up as a monster, carrying a spiked bat and scaring the living daylights out of unwary drivers!  A few dead chickens and drunk shooters later, Fred was forced to abandon the mantle of The Swamp Monster... yet even decades later people still keep witnessing Dat Gosh-Darn Swamp Monster! However, the swamp monster is only the tip of the anomalous iceberg that is Sussex County: Decapitated ghost girls, witch trees, phantom cars, misplaced kangaroos, sentient UFOs and even the Catman's graveyard, there are many more liminal residents who call the surrounding area home!  Could Sussex County be an actual window area hidden right beneath our noses... or is this stench of high strangeness just the result of us pulling stuff out of our asses? Ask any skeptic, they will tell you it's all just swamp gas! ====================== R.I.P. William Frederick Stevens, a.k.a. "The Swamp Monster"! Jennings Frederick: The Man Behind the Vegetable - with Cole Herrold
Fortean librarian Cole Herrold presents the most comprehensive research into the Vegetable Man, or rather the man of mystery behind this case: Jennings Frederick.  We uncover an intricate contactee story hidden under all our noses for decades! Was this tale just a silly hoax by Gray Barker, was it his own erotic fan fiction, or was it rather a forgotten tale of high strangeness from an unsung Fortean icon?  Vampiric plant creatures, demonic imps, psychic UFO communications, alien abduction, secret NASA UFO programs and even the dreaded Men in Black, this episode has it all!  Will we be able to piece it all together without a comprehensible timeline? Discussed are the strange lives of some of the greatest Fortean authors: Colin Wilson, Allen Greenfield, Fredrick William Holiday and even Trevor James Constable.  But along the way we lose our train of thought, proceeding to provide imaginal offerings to Ashtar Galactic Command, and even the egregore of Nessie! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to AP Strange for soothing our ears with his delightful voice! The A-Word: Mirrored Marionettes
The A-Word: Mirrored Marionettes
Intending to shatter your illusion of "Alien", I address humanity's perpetual tendency to hop onto the extraterrestrial explanation for a plethora of phenomena which may have a more Earthly, or even human, origin!  Why do we assume crop circles are made by aliens, when they appear on freakin crops...on the ground!? Why do we look up to the stars to show us illusions of our future potential? And why do we tend to seek higher intelligence out there, when it is already here with us?  For another, more sophisticated take on this issue, Check out Aliens: The First and Final Disclosure , a new book by Jeremy Vaeni ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

Pickled Martian Monkey - with Autopsy. Podcast
Pickled Martian Monkey - with Autopsy. Podcast
The 1953 Martian Monkey Hoax: at the time Georgia's most enduring unsolved mystery! This scandal grabbed the imagination of international newspapers, and the poor judgement of bad veterinarians, sparking the annoyed granddaddy of Georgian forensic science himself to crack the case within just a few hours!  Nevertheless, this odd story is now forever catalogued within the annals of Georgian forensic history via a pickled-up monkey carcass, safely tucked away in a so-called museum of the GBI crime lab.  Landen joins to further dissect this 70-year-old corpse and share his own encounters with it at his former job! Yes, whenever we talk small-town museums or rotting corpses, Landen is always eager to hop onboard!  Along the way he further demolishes our sensibilities by discussing autopsies of beloved pets, a lethally vicious dog attack case, cattle mutilation and how to determine whether Chupacabra victims are actually drained of blood! But most disturbing of all, we get hungry by the end and start talking food again... ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Landen from Autopsy. A Credible Incredible
Inspired by a dear fan, and my amazing experience guesting on Seriah's show, I decide to end the month expressing gratitude towards my listeners, guests and everyone who had me guest on their own shows!  We end September with 15 incredible episodes! Such a monumental month for my podcast, and an amazing experience collaborating with friends and idols alike.  Along the way I keep losing my train of thought and go into a discussion about the role of credibility in the paraweird field, whether we should be seeking it, or rather should we just allow ourselves to be taken by the stream of high strangeness and embrace the fuckuppery! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Seriah of Where Did the Road Go? for having me guest on his show and share cool new perspectives with a larger audience! Astral Boy Toys - with Stephanie Quick
Sex magick researcher and all around paraweirdo Stephanie Quick introduces us to the basics of establishing spicy relationships with the living, dead, undead and otherwise discarnate!  Erotic encounters with otherworldly entities have been a staple of folklore for millennia, and today Steph informs us of their significance in shamanic initiation and transference of forbidden knowledge.  As this process is oftentimes very... problematic, I quickly chicken out and deviate to more fun topics: tantric pooping, synchronistic dirty messages and UFOs which emerge out of cosmic buttholes! Steph inserts more sex magick philosophy whenever she can. Sexual energy is everywhere and we just can't escape it! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Stephanie Quick for sacrificing all of her credibility into manifesting this spicy episode with me 🧡 Check out her Twitter @WanderinBritchz If you are tired of reading smutty fan fiction, why not check out Steph's blog! Weirdo artist Cassie openly shares the role cryptids had in transforming her life!  Thanks to her wild imagination, she was able to recover from a troubled past and now dedicates her free time to the crafty and artsy side of cryptids, oftentimes in the most... peculiar ways. Frogman plumbers, Wendigo restaurants, bikini Braxxie, even aliens with donut sprinkle eyes!  Apart from her strange artistic endeavors, Cassie also discusses her own investigation into a haunted barn, featured in this month's issue of Paranormality Magazine, as well as her son's encounter with a 3-legged walrus cryptid! Might this be another sighting of the Enfield Horror??? ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Cassie Marozsan for her openness and bravery in sharing her troubled past with us! Ghostgirl (formerly Horsegirl) Kat returns to share her personal experiences: A ghost encounter, potential psychokinetic powers, a phantom hatman, exploding head syndrome and even a Bigfoot sighting at a ski resort!  Along the way we try to piece together the meaning behind these events and deviate into discussions about... horses! Horse mediumship, empathic connections with horses, horse whispering and horses as carriers of souls!  Well, we also talk about a lot of other paranormal shenanigans. Even though Kat is a skeptic, her thrill seeking nature drives her to participate in ghost tours and embrace the fun of keeping an open mind! I also slip in the Philip Experiment story as Kat is Canadian, eh! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Katrina for sharing her personal experiences and openly brainstorming possible explanations! Egregoric Humbuggery - with Jordan Heath from Campfire Tales
Jordan joins my attempt to piss off the cryptid community by endorsing them darn hoaxers!  We blatantly declare the Patterson-Gimlin footage a hoax, using its mangled remains alongside other fraudulent cryptid shenanigans to demonstrate how Bigfoot actually IS real, but not the way you want it to be!  Can hoaxes actually spark genuine phenomena? Can they manifest monsters in the form of egregores or tulpas? Or are these monstrous manifestations rather our instinctual projections which inspire us to form and maintain communities?  We hop across America discussing some favorite imaginal cryptid fugitives:  The elegantly coon-suited Selbyville Swamp Monster! The bombastic radio-surfing Cole Hollow Road Monster! The reckless vehicle-shredding Lizardman of Scape Ore Swamp! The chonky finger-biting Beast of Busco! ...and the perpetually intoxicated horny bunny himself: The Jackalope! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Jordan Heath of Campfire: Something Something for sharing controversial opinions with me, as well as being open to assist rattling the cage of the mainstream cryptid community!  Check out his podcast named Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling Check out their website as well at www.campfirepodcastnetwork.com (yes, Jordan is a semi-professional) Follow them on Instagram @campfire.tales.podcast Check out their Patreon to see why Jordan has not free time! ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

In a social media world filled with angry tweets and morons in need of disclosure, retired experiencer of alien fuckuppery, and blabbermouth: Jeremy Vaeni, received an invitation to a foreign podcaster's playground named... Tracing Owls!  Little did he know... it is the same type of trainwreck satire shtick... he's been recycling all of his life! I am barely proud to present my biggest guest till now: Jeremy Vaeni! Creator and co-host of my favorite paranormal podcast Paratopia, writer of many books I've never heard of with convoluted titles, and all-around funny guy who knows how to take a joke. As an alien abductee, Jeremy openly advocates on why aliens are not real, and how hypnosis is bullshit!  Shunned by the mainstream UFO community, he found refuge guesting on the show of a random Bosnian dude with zero listenership, discussing Kundalini meditation, universal consciousness, losing one's self (and virginity), the seedy underbelly of alien abduction research, and other American crap no Bosnian should ever be exposed to! ====================== For details on the Emma Woods story, I urge you to listen directly from Emma in this amazing and monumental interview Emma Woods and Jack Brewer - UFO Classified - YouTube Support Emma by reading her ACTUAL experiences via her books! Yokai: Categorization as Cultural Appropriation - with Luke Greensmith
Folklorist Luke Greensmith joins to discuss folkloric figures of a completely different culture: the Yokai of Japan!  We dissect the Western interpretations (and oftentimes bastardizations) of traditional Eastern folklores and why it is important to preserve foreign beliefs and stories within their own cultural and historical contexts.  Yokai are a very diverse group of entities, which Luke and I have noticed draw many parallels and cultural synchronicities with fairy folklore, as well as other worldwide myths. Using Yokai as a centerpoint, we sit down to debate the issues of comparative studies, cultural imperialism and conservation of traditional lore.   We also heavily criticize cryptozoology for vehemently reducing rich cultural diversity into shallow materialistic objectifications.....hey...they had it coming! 🤣 ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Luke Greensmith of LukeLore Podcast for providing us an opportunity to openly debate and address many important issues we often face while researching and podcasting about folklore and foreign beliefs! Onikage: The Dappled Demon of Japan
I share an ancient legend about a samurai and his attempt to tame a fearsome man-eating horse! The story draws many parallels with ancient Greek myths of the Mares of Diomedes, and of the taming of Bucephalus. The Andreasson Affair: Abduction, Religion & The Psychedelic UFO Experience
Are alien abductions actually psychedelic and spiritual experiences? Should all abduction experiences be studied through the traditional nuts & bolts ufological approach, and how deep down the rabbit hole are we actually willing to follow the experiencers? I share my own experience reading the magnificent book "The Andresson Affair", diving into the religious symbology of the case, the psychic-UFO connection, and the evolution of a ufologist's beliefs through decades of interaction with their own research subject! ====================== This episode is dedicated to Betty Andreasson Luca, who sadly passed away this March. From Betty's Obituary: Betty was internationally renowned due to abduction experiences she had  with otherworldly entities during her life. Her experiences are some of  the most researched and heavily documented, and were written about in a  NY Times best-selling book, magazines, and newspapers. In addition, Betty appeared on many TV and Radio shows, and lectured on the phenomena  all over the U.S. Betty was a dedicated and loving wife and mother of seven children. A Godless Paranormal: The Secular Embrace
A Godless Paranormal: The Secular Embrace
Is atheism inherently anti-paranormal, or does the paranormal have a secular quality we are yet to comprehend? As an atheist, I share what drives my own interest into the paranormal and Fortean, as well as the reasoning why my godlessness does not stand in the way of embracing the metaphysical and esoteric. If we view the paranormal as an essential component of the human condition, which is shaped and formed by our own creation, why do we still feel a God is necessary? Ego Tripping: An Introspective Maniac's Shamanic Experience
A psychedelic exploration into the subconscious mind of a creative weirdo! Yes, that's what most paranormal experiences actually are... but also the plot of this episode. My ignorant ass rants a bit, incorrectly using the term "shamanic", before showing you a recycled compilation of very introspective psychedelic scenes I created for my old show, culminating in more ranting from our buddy Aaron! Why am I recycling my own content? I dunno, isn't that what experiencers do each time they bring up their stories? Maybe these narratives are produced so we may constantly go back to them, trying to piece together the puzzle of our own minds, and in doing so start noticing the archetypal symbology which connects us all! WARNING: This episode is full of juvenile toilet humor! A.I. Archetypal Imagery
A.I. Archetypal Imagery
Can A.I. become a tool for psychonauting the dreamscape? Is the internet an external database of our collective unconscious? For the past month I have been playing around with an art-generating A.I., realizing it already has the capability to recognize what a cryptid is, and determine the most minimal contours required to convey the idea of a cryptid! Can A.I. actually redefine what a cryptid means to us? Are they truly undiscovered animals, frightening monsters, or are they archetypal outlines we have been sharing and ingraining into our shared psyche for decades? ====================== If you wish to generate your own Archetypal Imagery, seek out WOMBO Dreeam on your preferred app store! NOTE: I am NOT an artist. I  appropriate an A.I. tool to generate bizarre imagery. This is not art, rather it is inspiration and a projection of the collective unconsciousness. Pixie-Led by Cryptids - with TheCrescentHare
Christina joins an unintentional creative channeling, as we unify the concepts of fairies and cryptids to reach an epiphany: The Fae realm is an invisible microcosmos continuously regulating the ethereal ecology of souls! Sounds familiar, hopefully we are not bastardizing a recently released book...much 😏 Attempting to explain cryptids as members of the fairy folk, we inadvertently realize they may act as elementals, land spirits or even psychopomps! The rest of the episode we spend breaking down the creative process, pondering whether artistic expression is purely from within, or rather from without: the artist co-creating alongside the collective unconscious and The Other. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. The Walling of Skadar: Ballad of the Walled-Up Wife
The Walling of Skadar: Ballad of the Walled-Up Wife
I discuss and narrate the Serbian epic poem "The Walling of Skadar", the first documented folkloric account of the Legend of Rozafa Castle, in which a woman was walled into the castle as a sacrifice to appease a mischievous fairy. Yup, Serbian folklore is pretty disturbing. Nonetheless, the poem is regarded as one of the most touching pieces of Serbian epic literature and has even been adapted by the Brothers Grimm! Thankfully, we have since then mastered our architectural skills and are no longer plagued by building-demolishing fairies. The objectification of our women is yet to be demolished though. ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== FURTHER READING: The Building of Skadar | Translated poem The Building of Skadar | Wikipedia The Legend of Rozafa Castle in Albania | Culture Trip Rozafa Castle | Wikipedia Rozafa: The Wife & Mother Half Buried Within The Citadel’s Foundation Ballad of The Walled-Up Wife | Archiwik The "Walled-Up Wife" and Other Construction Legends Ancient ballad about a woman sacrificed at a construction site is subject of new book by UC Berkeley professor

Balkan Folklore: Excluded Middle of the Animistic Spectrum
Balkan Folklore: Excluded Middle of the Animistic Spectrum
Is animism a dirty word? How is this belief system interpreted by different cultures? I have no idea, but I sure as heck know my own Slavic culture started out animistic! Where do Early Slavs fit on the animistic spectrum? For the sake of inclusivity, I unify all the Balkan Slavic cultures and share a small portion of our folklore, our beliefs of inanimate objects possessing a spirit, and the deliberate destruction of our true spiritual origins! WARNING: Our folklore is very fucked up. You will hear stories of women being walled into castles as a blood sacrifice, dead unbaptized infants haunting their own parents for not conforming to Christian propaganda, and even watermelons turning into vampires! ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== FURTHER READING: The Legend of Rozafa Castle in Albania | Culture Trip Rozafa Castle | Wikipedia Early Slavs | Wikipedia Slavic paganism | Wikipedia Roots Revival: How Slavic Faith Returned to Poland | Culture.pl Slavic Native Faith | Wikipedia Vampire pumpkins and watermelons | Wikipedia Serbia The Birthplace of Vampires | Culture Trip Plakavac | Monstropedia Myling | Wikipedia Tiyanak | Wikipedia A History of Animism and Its Contemporary Examples The Survival of Animism in Russia – and Its Destruction in the West The Mystery of Bosnia's Ancient Pyramids | History Cyril and Methodius | Wikipedia Christianization of the Slavs | Wikipedia Christianization of Serbs

Celebrating James Lovelock, Creator of the Gaia Hypothesis
In response to the sad news, I decide to dedicate an episode in celebration of the magnificent life of James Lovelock: independent scientist, environmentalist, futurist, inventor and granddaddy of the Gaia hypothesis! A Roswellian Utopia
As July is nearing an end, we attempt to milk the Roswell cow dry of its spoiled trendiness, plucking at the nerves of old-school UFO fanboys like a marionette! Was Roswell a myth perpetuated by our own puppet masters, and if so, why have they abandoned their baby? Exchanged spooks for kooks, and saucers for tic-tacs? Gaian Consciousness: A Playground of Cosmic Expression
Gaian Consciousness: A Playground of Cosmic Expression
After a few podcast appearances and a conversation with a fellow fortean, I expand upon my ideas on the Gaia hypothesis and the Gaian influence on human consciousness. Is Mother Earth harnessing us as gateways to other dimensions, and is she enticing us with the paranormal to act as vectors of her own expansion? A series of e-mail exchanges with my Gaian mentor David Perkins encourages me to keep digging into these ideas! The Bigfoot Blasphemy: Jungian Archetypes & Cultural Hijacking
The Bigfoot Blasphemy: Jungian Archetypes & Cultural Hijacking
What does Bigfoot mean to you? Why does he pop up all over the place? Why is Bigfoot such an iconic symbol of cryptozoology, and why is he shared among people of every culture around the world? I gather up the courage to open up and talk about the bane of my cryptozoological interests! But this is not an attempt to bash Bigfoot, no, on the contrary! We explore the psycho-social significance of Bigfoot as an archetype in the collective unconsciousness, how much it may tell us about the human experience, and how it is a symbol shared among all people worldwide regardless of their cultural or historical context. Unfortunately, this is not the Bigfoot discussion many are expecting, or even wish to hear. Many in the cryptid community will deny it, and many will not be willing to face the ultimate truth: Cryptozoology is a social science! ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== FURTHER READING: Indiana Mud Mermaids and Extended History of Van Meter, Iowa | Campfire: Tales of the Strage and the Unsettling | Jordan Heath | Bigfoot Society Episode 45 - The Ozark Howler | Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling Jungian archetypes | Wikipedia Loren Coleman,  Patrick Huyghe (1999): Field Guide To Bigfoot, Yeti, & Other Mystery Primates Worldwide. Meat-Eating Murder Horses - with Horsegirl Kat
Horsegirl Kat, an avid horse rider, joins to discuss a dark secret we have willfully ignored throughout the centuries. Are horses bloodthirsty carnivorous killers? From baby chicks, to human testicles, to even others of their kind, horses have consistently been witnessed throughout history devouring meat and sipping on blood. When pitted against mountain lions, tigers or even humans, they are capable of mercilessly eliminating their enemies! Are they true monsters, or is this the result of mingling with humans for 6 thousand years? All of this and more... may be answered in the book we read! If you desire facts, why are you listening to podcasts? Go read a book! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Katrina for sharing her badassery with us while high on caffeine! After a series of spontaneous epiphanies (and a nice meal) Darwin hits record on his phone in an attempt to document his thoughts. Ljubovija Phantom: Foreign Culture, Flying Humanoid - with Cole Herrold
We have captured the most elusive cryptid: fortean researcher Cole Herrold! He sat down with us to discuss.. well... everything essentially! We go deep into the Ljubovija Phantom, mistakenly referred to as a Serbian Mothman, exploring the cultural context and sociological intricacies of the flying humanoid enigma which has been plaguing every continent for the past century. We share our views and perceptions of this entity, why helium balloons make us shit our pants, why horrific war crimes cause caped crusaders to fly around the skies of Serbia, and finally why bat-winged deities possess humongous erections (a topic we should go back to in another episode). Oh yeah... tangents! Old Saybrook Blockeheads! Veggieman! La Lechuza! Aswang! The Jersey Devil! Popobawa! We cannot possibly fill 2 hours with just the Ljubovija Phantom... so we teamed it up Avegers-style with every possible flying humanoid (and other random crap entities) out there so they may join forces and unite their amazing powers of... causing mass hysteria! Coonigator: Chimeric Dumpster Orgy - with TheCrescentHare
What do you get when an alligator falls in love with a raccoon? A vile atrocious unsightly mess... named the Coonigator! Or not, because Mother Nature is a bigot and does not approve of inter-species romance! Along the way we will educate you on just why natural selection prevents the formation of hybrid monstrosities, why it is never a good idea to hug a raccoon, why possums are terrifying, and just why this cute lil cryptid enjoys bananas so much. There is hardly any info on it, so we try to fill in the holes with bananas! Nope, that was not an innuendo! ... 😏 ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. A Feast of Monstrous Miasma - with TheCrescentHare
Christina joins after a year-long hiatus to fill your minds with bizarre tangental conversations, interconnected by an overarching theme of otherworldly food and supernatural stenches, their ties to the Fae, the Flatwoods Monster and Men in Black, as well as JELL-O's power to breach the veil between our worlds! Along the way Christina is attacked by a Rougarou in her own home! Damn those Frenchies and there swampy werewolves! She fends it off so we may continue to touch upon the toxic romance between Persephone and Hades, Who built the pyramids, Why aliens do not exist, and if they do, Why they are abducting deer, fish, and....Wyoming hunters? (and checking up on the condition of their peepees)  ============ Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Icegedunk: Seal with a Wheel - with TheCrescentHare
We join forces with Christina attempting to tackle this pain-in-the-ass cryptid mystery, only to have it completely run over us... with its wheel... on its ass! Yup, this cute seal has a freaking wheel between its buttcheeks... which it uses to zip through its arctic landscape! The internet disregards it, the locals want it dead, but we want to figure out just what the heck this wheel is??? A tail? A horny outgrowth? Petrified cheese? Or maybe something more disgusting 💩 ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Phantom of Ljubovija: Serbian Mothman!
Serbia, 2005: A black, cloaked, flying figure spreads panic within an unsuspecting town! A small, peaceful town where nothing ever happens, where people are bored out of their minds, struggling to live through their mundane existence, yearning for the most minuscule distraction which would focus their attention up at the skies. Suddenly, a wild helium [REDACTED - CORRECTION: MOTHMAN!] appears, forever imprinting the town of Ljubovija in the annals of paranormal history... with some small assistance from us, because hey... how else would you learn of awesome international [MOTHMAN] sightings, when those larger podcasters cannot even read unusual alien languages? 😃 ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com (Episode image is heavily edited, the image owner reserves all rights to their image, and is not affiliated with our podcast) SOURCES: Serbian Wikipedia: Ljubovija Superman Spotted In Serbia? Chickcharney: The True Barn Owl Cryptid
Our first episode... and already we are taking a vacation... to the Bahamas! We talk about the owl-like cryptid-pixie-imp thingy named the Chickcharney, such a magnificent beautiful creature, not at all weird looking...no really, don't offend it! It will curse you! This thing caused World War II, so it means business! Chasing Owls: Bedazzlement of the Cosmic Joker
This is a re-upload from my other podcast Darwin's Deviations. The episode inspired me to start this new podcast and serves as the basis of this show. In it, I expand upon my concepts and theories of the Cosmic Joker and Hierarchies of Nature and Reality... and talk some more nonsense regarding high strangeness, abstract realities, the Flatwoods Monster (Braxie), owls, mythology and my own awkwardness! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Introduction to the Show
Introduction to the Show
On Tracing Owls, we will be discussing cryptids, UFOs, paranormal phenomena, high strangeness, anomalies, obscurities, natural curiosities and general weirdness, as we attempt to catalogue the overlooked, spotlight the disregarded, and remind that the cosmic expanse is much greater than our understanding of it! This is a quirky, introspective, and oftentimes satiric, audio-blog exploration of fortean philosophy, emphasizing the impact of Mother Earth, the Cosmic Trickster and the experiencer in shaping the phenomenon. Every episode is an entity for itself, as I love to experiment and improvise with different formats, approaches and viewpoints. I also gravitate towards stream of consciousness content so the end result is an audio photograph of my mood, interest and thought process at a point in time and space! If you are interested in bizarre biology, with wacky characters, absurdist adventures and offensive toilet humor too, then check out my other podcast Darwin's Deviations Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Christina (actually a barn owl in "human" disguise) for creating this amazing podcast artwork! The idea was to have a barn owl cast the shadows of Braxie and Mothman... with its wings! Thus the outline of a mundane little cutey animal is traced onto monstrously eerie silhouettes... which are open to further interpretation 😀 I cannot thank Christina enough for this wonderful artwork which conveys all my ideas of unity between high strangeness and the natural world, so I highly encourage you to check out her work!
