Elections and Political Possibility in the United States and New Zealand

Elections and Political Possibility in the United States and New Zealand

In this episode, we discuss two recent elections: the general elections in the United States and New Zealand. First, we speak with Matthew N. Lyons, a scholar of the US far right and activist from the blog Three Way Fight on the relationship between various far right extremist groups and the capitalist state in the US.. We also hear from Enzo and Sara from the anti-state communist collective, Unity and Struggle on how to resist right-wing violence and state-based coup attempts.

Finally we present an interview conducted by Australia’s Green Left Radio with Ani White, an activist from FightBack Aotearoa, reproduced here with permission. Ani explains why the recent landmark victory of New Zealand’s Labour Party under the leadership of Jacinda Ardern in the parliamentary general elections is a victory for a centrist status quo.

Radical Community vs. Corona-Capitalism

Radical Community vs. Corona-Capitalism

This is the inaugural episode of Transnational Solidarity Network’s podcast. In this episode, we introduce the Transnational Solidarity Network (TSN)--an anti-authoritarian group of anarchists, socialists, Marxists, and leftists of different backgrounds, coming together to fight all oppressive systems and uplift people’s movements for freedom and justice from around the world. Follow us on Twitter @globesolidarity.

This episode covers community-based and healthcare worker responses to both capitalism and the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by an analysis of the U.S. uprising for racial justice. We interview JBF Hector, a freelance editor and translator in Mexico City, about the responses to the pandemic by the Mexican government and the Zapatistas. We then hear from Ashlie, a registered nurse in Boston, MA, about how the pandemic has exacerbated disparities and inequities in care across the US. We end with a meditation on the possibilities for struggle and liberation offered by Black Lives Matter and the abolitionist movement in the age of intersecting crises.
