Today we shift gears a bit on the podcast.  My dear friend Claire Spencer, digital marketing manager and co-founder of Watrrr.com, sits down to pick my brain a bit about what "I am statements", or affrimations can come from dealing with a specific adversity or challenge.  She helps me unpack three statements that, after reflection, I discovered after navigating a tough transistion and she believes that we all have the ability to find our own words of strength when we need them...no matter how tough the 'valley.'  My personal "I AM" statements that Claire helped me uncover were: * I AM STRONG  * I AM FEAR(LESS) * I AM ENOUGH  What are yours?  Claire was hoping to play with this format before launching her own podcast for her company, and I was so excited to be her guinea pig.  Her company, Watrrr, is a mission driven platfrom to empower EVERYONE, one sip of water at a time. "the company found passenger travel a distraction from the main business of moving freight" synonyms: diversion, interruption, disturbance, intrusion, interference, obstruction, hindrance "he called these stories a distraction from the real issues" 2. extreme agitation of the mind or emotions. "he knew she was nervous by her uncharacteristic air of distraction" synonyms: frenzy, hysteria, mental distress, madness, insanity, wildness, mania, derangement, delirium.  We uncover the cost of distractions and how they can keep us complacent, unfocused and in direct opposition to the things we want to accomplish.  Some are less obvious than others, and it's the subconscious distractions we often pay the biggest price for.   The antidote distraction can be complex, but the first step is being aware of it.  Once we identify what's taking away our attention, we can apply simple practices to take back our energy and subsequent focus. Today, we dive deep into the dark night of the soul... defined as: a period of spiritual desolation suffered by a mystic in which all sense of consolation is removed.  Pretty heavy, right? Yikes.  I think of it as a period of time where you feel lost, are in a dark place and most of what you thought you knew about yourself get stripped away.  In a nutshell? Not a fun time.  BUT!!  Is there a benefit to all this pain? Also. How do you get yourself thorugh it with out losing the lesson it likely has for you?  We go all the way there. A cockblock or cockblocker is a person who engages in such obstruction or intervention. The Dream Snatching Quicksand of Analysis Paralysis
Analysis paralysis describes a moment where over-analyzing or over-thinking a situation can cause it to become 'paralyzed', meaning that no action was taken therefore a solution is not reached. A situation may be deemed as too complicated and a decision is never made due to the fear that a potentially larger problem may arise. A person may desire a perfect solution but fear making a decision that could result in error, while on the way to a better solution. (Wikipedia) Sound familiar? Analysis Paralysis can take you down fast, and the scariest part is, if we don't find a way out of it...it could cost us our dream. In today's episode, we examine all of this and talk about the cost of it...and most importantly: a way the hell out of it. The only cure for Analysis Paralysis is action and when we take action there is always a risk that we'll be wrong, but as Seth Godin says: "Being wrong is worse than doing nothing." We talk about the steps to take action: 1) Your Outcome 2) Your Why 3) Your actions, and we talk about why Your Outcome drives all of it - not the "to do" list. By far the best book I've ever read on taking action for things like this is: "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. I read it at least twice a year. Too Much - a collaboration
After the huge response from one of our most popular episodes, "Too-Muchness" I wanted to open up the platfrom to our listeners so that they could share their own stories. This collaboration blew me away. In a world where, as women, we are continually getting the underlying message to " be small" and adhere to a norm that has us being less than we could be, the "you're too much" trigger is one that I felt was really important to hghlight. When a woman is told what she's doing or how she's behaving is "too much" I believe it's part of a bigger systemic issue. Without "too-much" there are no new ideas, new conversations, or growth. There are just old ways of being, old patterns as well as pushed down feelings and potential. In this episode we explore all of that and with the help of our listener's contributions as well as the thoughts and experiences of our previous guests, we can see how insidious this seemingly benign phrase can be to a woman's spirit. From marriage, to family, to relationships at work and with other men and women, these stories help to illustrate the box this term puts us in and why it's time to stop tolerating it. Our job is to be who we are, and being "too-much" is a huge part of moving the collective needle forward. It doesn’t have to be that hard
Look, my friends: I promise you it doesn't have to be so hard. You don't have to beat the shit out of yourself to make progress. I see people "hate fuck" exercise and diet stuff all the time, and I'll tell you: from the bottom of my heart- it doesn't work long term, and it's probably why you've struggled with it so much. I usually don't like to dealve too much into wellness stuff on the podcast, but I felt like it needed to be spoken to. The fitness industry monetizes the fact that 1) you don't know the science of what really works and 2) that you likely feel bad about yourself. Spoiler alert: the most effective fitness and diet protocol for you is the one you can stick to long term. Keto? Weight Watchers? Whole 30? Crossfit? Barre? HiiT, Kickboxing? Orange Theory? DOESN'T MATTER. Here's the bottom line: Be consistent, slow and steady wins it and make sure you LIFT WEIGHTS. You're welcome. Michelle DaRin Jewelry is best described as bohemian, bold, edgy, eccelectic style, think Pocahontas goes to Burning man. Michelle's designs are inspired by her love of color and nature. She uses a variety of materials including forged and enameled copper, caste silver, resin, bronze, feathers, leather and gem stones. Michelle received her BA in Sculpture from SUNY Cortland. She went on to pursue her MFA in Metalsmithing from Syracuse University and combines her love of sculpture into wearable art jewelry. Knowing your value

Definition of scarcity : the quality or state of being scarce especially, want of provisions for the support of life What happens when we operate of a a scarcity mindset and what is the impact? Jason Bridges - Bike tours, Baristas, Selectboard and E.Q.
So excited to introduce to you my friend Jason Bridges for this week's guest episode. I met with Jason on a cold, drizzly early September day on Nantucket Island in a cozy upstairs office above one of his businesses, The Handlebar Cafe - right off of Main Street in the heart of town. We cover so much in this episode - from how he manages two businesses, a six-month old baby girl named Eloise, holding space for his marriage as well as his seat on the Nantucket Selectboard. We dig into how a devastating accident, which lead to a brain injury and subsequent brain damage, turned from a curse into one of his best blessings. How empathy and emotional intelligence have been true gifts in not only compensating for what he lost in that incident, but also how it has allowed him to give back to others. Your "Representative"
We all have at least one. Maybe a few depending on our situations. "The Representative." The part of our personality that we "hire" to step in and take care of things when we don't feel brave enough to show up totally as ourselves. Some people would call it your ego or your "avatar" and I call it The Representative. Glennon Doyle speaks to it in her book, 'Love Warrior' also. This part of ourselves is there to control a situation or help us to feel safe and protected. It serves a purpose for sure, but how often is your Representaive running the show? Sometimes The Representaive is used so often that we can't figure out where it ends and we begin. If you can figure out who your Representive is, you can decide if it's still serving who you want to be. If it isn't, maybe it's time to give it the pink slip. Take a listen. The Comparison Complex
Comparison is the thief of joy, right? So why do we engage with it so much? It causes pain and even worse moves us away from who we really are. We talk today about that and the difference between two types of motivation: Intrinsic and Extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is the kind where you do something because it feels right to you and for you, where extrinsic motivation is when you do something based on something outside of yourself like acceptance, approval from others or monetarty gains. It's inherently obvious that comparsion is a big issue, but just because it's obvious doesn't mean that it's not important to highlight. I hope this one helps you to explore how you'tre motivated and choose the type that moves you closer to who you're meant to be. The Incredible Power of Patterns
We all have 'em the thing is, we often don't think about how much power they have over us and our lives. Your patterns can dictate so many elements of your life, from relationships to body shape to business. When people come to me for help in a weight loss goal, the first few questions that come up are: "What do I need to eat, and how many days a week should I work out?" Those things certainly will help with working towards an intended outcome, but the problem is that their patterns of behavior don't line up with the new diet and workout protocol. The old patterns have more power, so therefore...without having a conversation about a person's patterns the oatmeal and burpees won't be nearly as effective. Have an intended outcome? Dr. Andrew Kaufman - Can exercise be used to treat depression?
In today's episode I sit down with forensic Psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Kaufman and we dig into his experience with the modern protocols that work to treat mental health and their effectiveness. He began his medical profession in a traditional sense at Duke University, but after helping patients suffering from clinical depression and treating them with standard protocols like anti- depressants, he came to understand by way his own experience and reseach that this system broken. He began to explore how exercise and diet could be used to treat certain types of mental illnesses like depression and worked to test their effectivness over time. The results were surprisingly profound. I had the pleasure of collaborating with Dr. Kaufman on a particular project where we combined a prescribed three day per week exercise program with his treatment philosophy. As a result, the participants of the program who suffered from chronic clinical depression experienced a nearly 100% remission rate.

Your Vibe attracts your Tribe
Today we're talking about how your on energy and values atract your people. One quote of Oprah's that live by is "You are responsible for the energy you bring in to the room" and as my man Tony Robbins often says, "you get what you tolerate." To me, this is the foundation of setting up your vibe to surround yourself with the right tribe. It has to begin with you. Three things that I use to set the tone for my own vibe are 1) I want to listen to understand and have real connection with people 2) I will not, under any circumstances gossip...even if, and especially if it's about someone I don't particularly care for and 3) I will not engage for extended periods of time in "low-vibe" talk, like how much I weigh, what I look like or what I have. Caitlin Marcoux - The yoga teacher who battled cancer
Caitlin Marcoux's resume on paper is beyond impressive. Se began her love with movement as a professional dancer. After suffering a knee injury from her dancing career, she began to test the waters of yoga where she found not only the benefits of the physical practice, but also the spiritual aspect. She carried on with her practice, and eventually became a teacher herself. Beyond the practice of yoga, Caitlin is also a cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 2013 with invasive ductal carcinoma, where she underwent 31 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy as part of her treatment at age 36. During this time she also cared for her 3 year old son Griffin. Her story is incredible. Caitlin is a master yoga teacher, a wellness coach, a personal trainer and owns a successful stand up paddle boarding business on Nantucket. Shawn Cheshire - The blind chick who rides a bike.
Shawn Cheshire is a member of the US National Paralympic Cycling Team, and competed at the 2016 Paralymics in Rio De Janeiro as a blind athlete. She is a real-life Wonder Woman both on and off the bike. We dig into so much in this episode, including what challenges she's had to overcome on her journey, how she dealt with slowly losing her vision, how she manages depression, what being a teammate means to her and so much more.
