She has been an associate professor in design anthropology At Swinburne University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has worked with Kutch artisans through Kala Raksha in India. Arts and Crafts has been a part and parcel of Rural India since time immemorial. The same is dying as it is not adding value to the livelihoods of the rural population. The podcast talks about how Arts and Crafts can boost up the rural economy and be a potential alternative livelihood option. It also features how the advancements in globalization and Technology benefit rural craft communities, citing examples from the western World. The industry can easily empower women as well as the upcoming generations, retaining their traditions.

Gauri is the founder of Danae Consultancy and a professional member of the Association of Designers of India. Currently, she holds the position as a trustee at Jai Vikaji Bhiladwala Smarak High School, Umarsadi Village, Valsad, and trains part-time at Competitiveness Mindset Institute. She founded Danae Consultancy in 1996 when she was employed at Royal Netherland Embassy to run the Netherlands Business Promotion Office. She had been a Chief Representative at The Netherlands Business Support Office for 15 years. According to her, life is about learning. Finding solutions should be the priority rather than worrying about the problems.

Design thinking draws on logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning to explore the possibilities of what could be and to create desired outcomes that benefit the end-user (the customer).
A design mindset is not problem-focused, it’s solution-focused and action-oriented. It involves both analysis and imagination.
Design thinking is linked to creating an improved future and seeks to build ideas up – unlike critical thinking, which breaks them down. Problem-solving is making something go away.

Liby Johnson is the Executive Director of Gram Vikas, Odisha. He is a development management specialist with more than 22 years’ experience of grassroots/policy-level work in both the government and-government sectors. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in RuralManagement from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), Gujarat. Liby coordinated Gram Vikas’ relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction activities after the 1999 Odisha Super Cyclone, and post-Indian Ocean Tsunami reconstruction efforts taken up by SIFFS(South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies) – a fisher people’s collective in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
