PAUL DU TOIT - THE UNLIKELY SECRET AGENT
1963, South Africa. The country is on a knife edge.  Political protest, sabotage and violence has engulfed the country. The world premiere is on June 9 at The Drama Factory in Somerset West. Says du Toit, who also directs the play: “This is one of those South African stories that simply must be told. CAROLYN STEYN - 67 BLANKETS - NELSON MANDELA DAY
Carolyn Steyn holds an honours degree in Speech and Drama from the University of the Witwatersrand and a T.L.S.D. (Teacher's Licentiate in Speech and Drama) from the University of South Africa. Carolyn lived in the United States for 10 years and in England for 5 years. She was nominated as one of the 'Most Exciting Women', by the Beverly Hills Sheet in 2004.  Carolyn is also the Founder of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, an "initiative with a very big heart" which has attracted thousands of members not only in South Africa but also around the world. Initially aiming to distribute just 67 hand-knitted blankets to the needy on Mandela Day, the 67 Blankets has now grown into an annual record-breaking event that generates warmth for thousands of needy South Africans. In 2020, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day’s Carolyn Steyn challenged new and long-term committed KnitWits to keep their fingers moving as they whiled away the long socially distanced hours. In response, these wool-warriors have tackled skeins of wool, and hooked multiple stitches to ensure they knit and crochet the world’s largest Springbok Blanket. The ‘blanket’ will cover the entire rugby field with the image of our iconic ‘Bok’ and South African flag - so large, it will only be visible from the sky earth’s atmosphere and via satellite. This green and gold achievement will not only celebrate the Boks’ historic 2019 Rugby World Cup win, but also ensure some warmth and hope for many vulnerable people in South Africa this winter.
