Ep 61: Simple 5 Minute Meditation for Relaxation

Ep 61: Simple 5 Minute Meditation for Relaxation

Hello there! This is a simple 5 minute meditation for relaxation. It's a great option to implement as an intro to meditation.   While I think it's effective - when I mention meditation, I'm not referring to only in a quiet space, sitting on the floor with your legs crossed. You can meditate anytime, anywhere. It's the intention behind it that makes the biggest difference.

Ep 51: What does beauty inside and out mean to you?

Ep 51: What does beauty inside and out mean to you?

TGMS - Episode 51 - What does beauty inside and out mean to you?

During promotion for Journey Live Production’s play Beauty Inside and Out, I had an opportunity to sit down and chat with two lovely ladies, Daija and Jhimae.
We were at Forest Park, one of the world’s most beautiful parks (I believe.) We were sitting near the fountain. You’ll hear people walk by or in the distance conversation or laughter.

I presented two different questions and let them decide which one they wanted to answer. They bring up some interesting points, stay tuned to listen in.

What does beauty inside and out mean to you?

I asked them a series of questions. First up, Daija answers what beauty inside and out means to her? She asked me to share a tidbit on what I thought beauty inside and out meant. Then she went on to present some interesting arguments.

At the time, I mentioned that beauty inside and out was equivalent to freedom, to maximum self-expression. I believe there’s a box that comes with not accepting your own beauty.
She says, we need to dissect the whole ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ Are we really in a place to decide what beauty inside and out means for someone else? Are the magazines, social media  TV really reliable sources for defining beauty? She believes that we ultimately feel internally what is beautiful to us. She learned in school that, according to society’s standard, someone with a more symmetrical face seems to be more attractive because symmetry has a correlation with perfection.

She went on to say that, if one person deems something as beautiful, we should be able to say differently, if that’s what we feel.

Her other argument is that the person you are on the inside and define how beautiful you are on the outside. When you are a beautiful person on the outside, and your personality or who you are on the inside doesn’t match, you start to look less attractive.

In summary, laughter is the best medicine AND inner beauty determines your outer beauty. And that’s her opinion.

Who are you and what do you stand for?

This second question is answered by ‘Mae’ as she lovingly calls herself a voluptuous black woman.

#HeyNow!

#BlackPower

She answered the question of who is she and what she stood for.

I am Jhimae Brock.

She loves the beauty of life, nature, music, and connections with people. Just the simple things.

She stands for love. Love keeps us all connected. It’s a beautiful thing. We need more of it in the world. There’s so much hate, violence,  and crime. There’s a lot of things that bring people down. There’s depression, institutionalized racism and so much stuff. And all we really need is love. We need to care about and be there for each other.

Daija has a moment to think about what she stands for and answers the question as well.

“You know what I think I stand for - independence. Because everything I do in my life has to do with becoming independent.

I strive for independence.

I got to work because I want to be independent. I found me a place to stay so I can move out of my parents house, so I can be independent.

I don’t like depending on other people for things, so that motivates me to do better, to make more money.

I want to get to a point where I don’t need anyone for anything. Which, I don’t think that’s totally possible. I think God made is so that we need each other.

But that’s what drives me.

I just want to be independent. I want to be on own. I want to be able to do things by myself. And that’s just me - I’m a loner.”

Ep 49: You are a Mental Being

Ep 49: You are a Mental Being

In this episode, we're talking about the mind. It's sponsored by Journey Live Theater, a local QC theater company. The focus is the keep the arts ALIVE. The latest project is Chosen Generation, touring schools, churches and organizations.

Concepts covered:

  • You are a mental being.
  • You are a mind with a body.
  • Christianity is near and dear in the African American culture.
  • If you don't have the right frame of mind, then even your belief in God can be skewed."
  • The right frame of mind helps to cultivate healing."
  • When your brain is under fire, everything else is affected."
  • Staying consistent with your daily routine is like taking vitamins.
  • Lying within your mind is a source of energy stronger and more potent than any explosive. Unlimed and inexhaustible. You need only to make conscious content to set it working in your affairs. When you do you will marvel at the following changes.
  1. Mental and physical wellbeing
  2. Success in your chosen field of endeavor
  3. A sense of personal fulfillment..

At some point, you must evaluate the beliefs that have been passed down from your parents. Keep those that serve you and throw out the ones that aren't.
Life is short, but longer when you are more aware.
You have the control the shape and mold your state of mind.
Having the right frame of mind becomes an outward existence.
Your regular thoughts will manifest themselves in your life.
Try meditation.
If you don't take control of what you allow in your mind, before you know it, you're living out a life that's not your own and then it's over.
Knowing the why will help you be more connected to practicing good habits.
Change your mind, change your life.
MEDITATION IS FOR EVERYONE.
Meditation isn't deemed 'right' when your mind is clear 100% of the time.
Awareness is the way.
When you meditate, you are more aware of what is and isn't working for you.
