UberNeuro: An exploration into Neuro Diverse Super Heroes

UberNeuro: An exploration into Neuro Diverse Super Heroes

By Al T

UberNeuro explores the world of Neuro Diverse Super Heroes.

My son was recently diagnosed with Autism (ASD) and to inspire him my mission is to interview amazing champions and winners from the worlds of business, sports, film and tv, music, etc who have triumphed despite (or often because?) of their neuro diversity.

We will ask them three questions and see where the conversation takes us over 10-15 minutes. What challenge did you face? What happened next? Where are you now?

The only question that remains is who should we interview next?

UberNeuro: Meet Matt Elwell...

Welcome to the monumental 20th episode of UberNeuro. Wow! We are 20! And we've loved every minute but today it's a special episode indeed. One of my mentors is a guy called Matt Elwell.  He runs the Elite Closing Academy (https://www.eliteclosingacademy.com/) and his family have been through a fair bit. I'll let him do the talking but the learnings from this podcast were immense for me. And I am sure they will be for you. What more could we possibly do to convince you to give it a listen?

UberNeuro: Meet Phil Argent...

UberNeuro: Meet Phil Argent...

Welcome to the 16th episode of UberNeuro. Delighted to welcome a seasoned interviewee to the UberNeuro recording desk today. Phil Argent (like this host) has been around since the early days of the web. As one of the original QXL Ricardo (remember them?) team he helped scale a massive 9 figure dotcom success story. And that was after working with Richard Branson at Virgin in the 90s. With multiple roles since and a new disruptive gardening business resurgent today, Phil discovered his ADHD officially in recent years and has embraced his superpower as a way of forging a new world for him and others. A most enlightening chat for anyone with an interest in NeuroDiversity and the impact it is having on business. Connect with Phil here on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phil-argent/

UberNeuro: Meet David Chernick...

UberNeuro: Meet David Chernick...

Welcome to the 15th episode of UberNeuro. Today's guest is ground-breaking for UberNeuro in two ways. 1) This is the first face to face podcast where we were in the same room for the recording...which just adds to the atmosphere we felt. 2) David Chernick is the first DJ building a specialism in serving Neurodiverse clients that we've ever heard of (https://www.jiggle.in/). There is nothing typical (by any measure) about David and his journey as a super sensitive and aware Sales Coach and DJ that led him to the opportunity to serve a family needing a party for their Neurodiverse child. He found he had a gift for bringing an awesome party to that family because of (rather than despite) their challenges. We spoke to David about the challenge he met in serving that family and what happened next.

UberNeuro: Meet Dan Jones...

Welcome to the twelfth episode of UberNeuro. Today's guest is a rock star, author, founder of a religion (kinda) and has just hit 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. Oh and he has Aspergers. Ladies & Gents, give a warm welcome to the man behind AspieWorld (https://www.youtube.com/theaspieworld), Dan Jones.

Dan's journey from teenager to adult is a fascinating one and his discovery of music changed his world forever. We are delighted to have been able to talk to Dan about his journey.

UberNeuro: Meet Tyla Carr...

Welcome to the tenth episode of UberNeuro. Into double figures and it's appropriately a bit more amazing than normal. Not gonna lie, all our interviewees are fascinating humans but this guest has the biggest public profile of any guest so far and is using it for good so we applaud the chance to interview her about her journey with ADHD and Dyslexia.

Esteemed UberNeuro listeners, please give it up for Tyla Carr (https://www.instagram.com/tylarosie/). LoveIsland meets UberNeuro!

Tyla's ADHD & Dyslexia journey is a seemingly typical one. Deemed naughty and full of misbehaviour at school it created friction in the family and so when she was finally diagnosed it was a huge relief to know it's not her fault. Over time Tyla shares how she got addicted to proving people wrong. Now, she can hyper focus when she loves what she's doing. Learn how Tyla coped and thrived and how being a mum to Archie gives her an excuse to be full of energy.

UberNeuro: Meet Haley Moss...

UberNeuro: Meet Haley Moss...

Welcome to the ninth episode of UberNeuro. We speak with Haley Moss (https://www.instagram.com/haleymossart/), Attorney with Autism, Advocate, Speaker, Author and so much more. Oh, and she is only just turning 25 by the way.

In the 90s stereotypes on Autism were set by Temple Grandin & Dustin Hoffman's performance in the epic flick Rainman. Haley was then a non-verbal 3 year old diagnosed with ASD. She cried a lot and didn’t socialise. People didn’t want to speak about it. But Haley had an amazing and supportive family that just wanted to let her play and be loved. The challenges changed and evolved as she got older and at 25 it’s all so different. but she powers through them seemingly effortlessly on the surface but clearly with immense focus and energy to overcome. As she says 'These are the cards I have been dealt and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.' Haley now focusses on making sure everyone’s voices within NeuroDiversity can be heard. Amazing human. Honoured to interview her.

UberNeuro: Meet Gretchen Leary...

UberNeuro: Meet Gretchen Leary...

Welcome to the eighth episode of UberNeuro. We find ourselves crossing the pond once again but this time to interview Gretchen Leary (https://www.instagram.com/gretchenleary/). She is an author of two kids books (and more), advocate, blogger, speaker, life coach and a columnist for Activate 4 Autism (https://geekclubbooks.com/gretchen-being-brave/). As if that wasn't amazing enough Gretchen is also CEO and Founder of BostonCalm (https://www.instagram.com/bostoncalm/) - a 501c3 non-profit providing sensory tools to those with #ASD & #Tourette Syndrome in hospitals & schools in MA in the North Eastern US.

We covered a lot of ground during this interview but we just could not stop talking and exploring with Gretchen. We learned that she didn’t talk about sensory issues as a child and remained undiagnosed until 23. Prior to that it had all just been brushed under the rug and dismissed as anxiety. Something we think a lot of people will be able to identify with. Find out what happened next and how Gretchen has built the incredible world above around her.

UberNeuro: Meet Paul Connelly...

Welcome to the seventh episode of UberNeuro. This time we were delighted to chat with Advanced Driving Instructor & BNI Business Networking legend... Paul Connelly. We learned about the myriad challenges Paul faced in his childhood that would have left most hopeless yet Paul not only survived but thrived, despite as he puts it, having left school with straight A’s...all absences. His philosophy is one of standing up and being counted, of making your own path. Find out how Paul has built not only one business but two and achieved significant recognition for his achievements in moving himself forwards and in helping others do the same.

UberNeuro: Meet Kellie Barker of Born Anxious

UberNeuro: Meet Kellie Barker of Born Anxious

Welcome to the fifth episode of UberNeuro. We chatted with SuperMum Kellie Barker who created the most amazing clothing range (https://www.bornanxious.co.uk/) for her Autistic son (and for all of us for that matter as a result of course). We heard about her originally on the BBC, loved the clothes, bought the clothes and just had to interview her.

Kellie just wants to make being kind cool and her clothing carries a message designed to bring the kindness. She has an incredible practical wisdom about her that clearly comes from being a mum to an autistic son and hit home with her point that behaviour brings judgement, that some people think they can judge other peoples children. She blew us away when she clarified that parenting is about the emotional needs of the child and that too many parents are just not present. Ultimately the biggest takeaway for us was that children experience emotional events not behavioural ones.

Find out what challenges she faced, what happened next and where he is now.
