Finding Inspiration Internationally: The Life & Times of a Writer
Ciao bellas! This week my guest is friend, author and editorial client Tina Gallagher. Tina took a breather in between traveling internationally to talk about her recent trip to Tuscany and how it provided her with an opportunity to be inspired by other writers and the beautiful sunsets. Before jetting off to her next writers' gathering in London, Tina shared what spicy stories we can expect from her next book series that will kick off by the end of the summer. And...the series is based in Scranton! If you like to travel, you'll enjoy this episode. If you are a writer or dream of being a full-time writer, you'll want to listen to this episode. If you learn and are inspired by empowered women who support other women, you need to hear this episode! Check out Tina's books at https://tinagallagherbooks.com/ or on Amazon. Tips to Have a No-Bummer Summer
During the month of June on my podcast, I've been talking about fun summertime memories and things to do here in Northeastern PA and Scranton in particular. One of my favorite pastimes is to kayak at the Lackawanna State Park but I love the State Park for walking, hiking and running as well (in all seasons). We try to pack a lot of fun in the summertime when the weather is warm, but it's important that we're prepared for outdoor activities so that we stay safe and can keep having fun. Or, as my guest says, "have no bummers this summer!" Tune in to hear my conversation with Tammy (Tamara) Misewicz-Healey, health and safety expert and owner of Mi EHS Alliance. Don't fear, it's not going to be a snoozefest. Staying safe is serious but how we talk about it is still entertaining and informative! Tammy offers three key safety tips for summer that you'll want to tune in to. If you enjoy my podcast, remember to please share and subscribe. If you don't, come back after some more wine! And be sure to check out Tammy's podcast Mi Health and Safety. For more fun, follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook. As I always say, I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my wine glass.

Historically Speaking...our region is rich.
Last week I talked about my memories of summertime favorites like going to church picnics, going for ice cream in my PJs and my trips to our local drive-in, The Circle Drive-In Theater. This week we're picking up on the outdoor movie theme and broadening to a variety of things you can do to appreciate the Scranton area and entire county. My guest this week is Mary Ann Savakinus, executive director of the Lackawanna Historical Society. This conversation was extremely enjoyable to me because we highlighted the many gems in the Scranton area that make our region rich...with amazing architecture, talented people and so many other treasures that you'll learn about when you listen! Be sure to like the Lackawanna Historical Society's Facebook page for the complete schedule of their upcoming summer fundraisers and activities planned. And remember to subscribe and share this podcast, if you enjoyed it. If you didn't like it, drink some wine and try again. I appreciate you following Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook. And, as I always say, I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my wine glass.

Summer Fun'n, Had Me A Blast!
What are some of your favorite childhood memories from summertime? Do they include trips to your local drive-in theater? Fishing at the lake? Playing games at church picnics or county fairs? This week on Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl, I am sans guest. I'm sharing some of my memories from summertime and offering ideas of ways you can unplug and have fun in Northeast PA. If you like drive-in theaters, you'll want to tune in for at least the first half of this episode. And fun drinking game alert: drink wine every time I say the word "cool." Lol. And "um" will get you a pretty good buzz too :) Resources to find fun things to do in Northeast PA: https://www.visitnepa.org/ https://www.discovernepa.com/ https://www.dcnr.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspx https://lancasteronline.com/news/local/27-places-to-see-a-drive-in-movie-in-pennsylvania/article_888522be-1d2f-11e6-bbe9-efd22dcca512.html Notes/corrections to things I said in this episode: It takes only about 90 minutes to get to Bethel Woods and it's NOT 81 North (oy, I was talking out my butt this week and I had not even been drinking wine). Forest Therapy®” is a research-based practice supporting the healing of individuals through the immersion in forests. The name taken from the Japanese art of “Shinrin-yoku”which translates to “Forest Bathing”. And it was Joni Mitchell who sang "Big Yellow Taxi" (they paved paradise put up a parking lot), not Joan Baez. Be sure to follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook and please share some of your summertime memories and/or ideas of things to do in NEPA in the summer! Remember to subscribe and share and as always, I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my wine glass!

Northeastern Pennsylvania is home to many gems. We have incredible architecture, beautiful parks and trails, numerous attractions and activities and amazing people who give of themselves to make this region a great place to live. You'll get to meet some of those people on my podcast this week as we talk about the upcoming NEPA Gives Day on June 3 and The Ritz Foundation--a nonprofit focused on community outreach, preservation of the iconic Ritz Theater in downtown Scranton and supporting theater through scholarships. My fellow Ritz Foundation board members: Mary, Karl and Nina, join me to talk about all the excitement planned in Scranton on June 3rd and why donations made on this day are important for the Foundation and ultimately the greater Scranton area. Next Stop, Happiness
As we come to the end of the month of May, I am finishing this series about "growth" with a young woman who I have seen grow from a shy student to a poised young professional navigating her way through New York City. Meet Megan Esty, a graduate of the University of Scranton who has played every role on both sides of the theater curtain and after working very hard, she has sized up the job of her dreams and seems to have found the perfect fit. Megan talks about the choices she has made since graduation and offers the advice to recent grads to pursue what they truly enjoy--despite naysayers, the hard work involved or the risks--because the happiness that awaits at the end of the PATH is well worth it. She is also willing to help others who want to follow in her footsteps because she was fortunate to have that same opportunity. Remember to subscribe and share with someone who could benefit from this conversation. And be sure to follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook. Your support means a great deal to me. Growth Stems from You
This week on Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl we're sprouting more great conversation on the topic of growth with my guest Donna Nelson, Holistic Empowerment Coach. At times I felt like Donna was a sister from another mister because we connected on some similar ideas and experiences about learning who we are and growing away from values that were not our own but created a sense of duty from familial or societal expectations. Donna offers us some great tips on where to begin if we're feeling overwhelmed and stressed out (and who isn't), beginning with finding clarity in our lives. How can we grow if the vision we have of ourselves is muddy? Or if we blame our lack of progress or growth on all of the external influences? We may have uncorked some serious stuff, but there's always a bit of lightheartedness to balance things out. To learn more about Donna's coaching services, please visit her website. Remember to subscribe and share if you enjoy the podcast and follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and like on Facebook. Your support is invaluable to me. I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my wine glass.

Growing More Nourishment of Plants, People, & Community
So Mother Nature did not cooperate with the organizers of the SouthSide Farmers Market in Scranton for their big outdoor opening of the market on May 7th. Due to the rain, a number of vendors were unable to attend; the band did not play and the giveaways and raffles were put on hold. Because of that delay, I am replaying last week's podcast episode to get you amped up for this Saturday, May 14th when the big opening of the market will take place. Let the band play and the special festivities take place. I've even added a new intro to the podcast, providing a bit more information about the Market, coordinated by the organization, United Neighborhood Centers. The UNC offers wonderful programs throughout the Scranton area to help with childcare, health and wellness initiatives and so much more. Play it again Sam! Thank you for your support. Be sure to follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and like on Facebook for some wine information and generally humorous stuff. And I hope you'll uncork some fun, laughs, peacefulness, and whatever it is you enjoy! Be sure to join me next week on May 19th, when my guest will be Empowerment Coach Donna Nelson. We're learning to let go so we can grow! I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my wine glass.

Nourish plants, people, and your community!
As the temperatures turn warmer and the flurries fly away for the season, we're ready here in Northeastern PA (specifically Scranton) for outdoor activities, including planting in our gardens. With the theme of "Growth" for my podcast during the month of May, this week, my guest Kristin Armstrong of Peaches Greens, talks about the inspiration behind her business and how plants nourish her mental health. We talk about the kick-off of the SouthSide Farmers Market transition to the outdoor space and how great the market is to bring the community together and give them an opportunity to shop, learn and grow. If you live in or around the greater Scranton area, be sure to visit Cedar Avenue in South Scranton every Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM to enjoy everything the SouthSide Farmers Market has to offer...including a variety of regular vendors as well as new ones and entertainment for the summertime; there will also be a new bistro area where you can sip a coffee, munch on snacks and listen to the tunes of the live bands. And watch for activities planned with other community agencies...many that the kids will enjoy! Music performances will take place on the 300 block of Alder Street with a cluster of brightly colored bistro tables in front of a boxwood wall. Be sure to subscribe to this podcast and share with a friend. And please follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook. And check out Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl on YouTube.

She's making her case for humor.
What's in a name? That depends. This week my guest goes by many names depending on who her audience is. Elizabeth Marcon is a lawyer by day and a stand-up comedian by night who goes by the stage name of Eliz Howard. And you might see her performing in a band named The Verdict throughout the Lehigh Valley as well. They have a gig in pocket park in Allentown on the afternoon of May 7. In addition to sharing humor, delivering closing arguments and carrying a tune, Elizabeth is also a mom of four young children. So if anyone can benefit from the use of humor, it's Elizabeth. I hope you'll check out our conversation about everything from wine, to how Eliz is incorporating humor into her professional life and talking about her personal life on stage. And if you're in the Lehigh Valley area, be sure to check out all of the great comedy happening at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA. Name that Ethnicity and Other Inappropriateness
As National Humor Month continues, so do the conversations with funny women I've met throughout the past several years. This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to the smart, funny and kind Roya Hamadani. I've enjoyed her comedy ever since she did a 5-minute spot at one of my ladies' comedy nights a handful of years ago at Mountain View Vineyard in the Poconos. Roya talks about how she uses humor to address the topic of her ethnicity and how people view her and how she has addressed sexism and other "isms" running an open mic for a number of years in the Lehigh Valley. She is the founder of Lehigh Valley Stand-up Women, a creative producer and performer of comedy shows and an all-around class act. If you enjoy this episode, please be sure to subscribe and share. And check out YouTube if you want to see our smiling faces. Follow Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Instagram and Facebook for more funnies! Thank you. Laughter and Humor Are No Joke: talking with 'O' friend who always makes me snort laugh.
In this episode of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl, I can't say that I have a "guest," because to me, he is and will always be like family. My dear friend Oliver (Ollie) Ord, who I have known since freshman year at Bishop Hannan High School, joins me for a partly serious but mostly fun and funny conversation about what makes us laugh. I had to get a bit nerdy, talking about research, because I want everyone to understand the difference between humor and laughter and how you can use their power in your life. Be sure to visit my Facebook page Laugh to Live! for more funnies and facts during National Humor Month and stop by Funny Wine Girl Jeannine on Facebook and Instagram for wine posts and humor. Kate Quinn Miller and her teenage daughters Carly and Tori are volunteer firefighters in Clark's Summit, PA who are proudly carrying on a family tradition. Listen to hear how they feel serving as examples for other young women of what they can become, and how they manage a household full of firefighters (did I mention Kate's husband Jay is a firefighter too?)! Architect Michele Dempsey puts her heart into all of her projects, but the one with the most sentiment and meaning to her, is the house she designed for her parents in Northeast PA. Afterall, family is the reason she returned home to Scranton. And since returning, she has put her heart into many efforts to help ignite the Electric City, such as co-creating The Office Convention and Wrap Party, locating her business DxDempsey Architecture in the city and being a staunch advocate to promote the region and protect it. Crime of Passion...or Fashion?!
We may not be shaking hands or hugging as much these days, but love is still in the air and can be felt. The Greek word Eros describes the passionate love felt between people who love one another in a romantic way and that is typically what Valentine's Day focuses on, but as we know, there are many kinds of love...of family, friends, community--WINE! I say, "let's celebrate all types of love as much and as often as we can!" This week, my guest Julie Esty, a local historian in Scranton, PA, (where this podcast is produced) shares tales of romance from this region that she researched from many, many, years ago. Hear about the Hat Pin Mystery, the Last Train Ride for Two Lovers and The Come-hither Cloth. Thanks for listening. Please throw some love my way by subscribing and sharing this podcast. The Scorpion Card
Michelle Morgan and I performed comedy improv together in Scranton for a number of years. We first met at the Comedy Dojo, under the illustrious Chris Barnes, and then we continued to perform together at private events on college campuses, conferences and other special events. We were often quite spirited when together (if you know what I mean). But that was more than 10 years ago. Today Michelle is across the country in Colorado so I do not get to see her for drinks and girl talk like we used to do. But, thanks to technology, we were able to connect via Zoom, have some laughs, reminisce about the good 'ol days and talk about Tarot Card readings. Tune in for this fun conversation and...if you want to see what cards Michelle pulled out for me in my special Tarot Card reading and what they mean for my future, visit my Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW-cAexnoNKk_0HFUy_GtEg to watch the reading. Chart your own course to a healthy new year!
January is an interesting month--it can feel gray and bleak; we're often feeling low on energy after having just finished a busy season attempting to meet or exceed self-imposed expectations for the best holiday ever and we now feel the need to make resolutions to exercise more, drink less, eat healthier, organize our clutter...you name the resolution. Various sources show that the average American abandons their resolutions by about the third week of January. This all adds up to more stress and anxiety--something we don't need on top of the added stress the pandemic has led to over the past (nearly) two years. So...let's resolve not to resolve. Let's take a different approach this year. My guest on this first podcast episode of the year, is Gina Constantini, licensed clinical social worker in private practice and board member for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness ) NEPA's Chapter. She reminds us that we are the pilot of our own life and only we can set the course for ourselves. And the best approach is to set do-able intentions and self-care actions that can realistically be practiced daily. Resources based on information referenced in the podcast: https://www.himalayaninstitute.org/; https://www.drcynthiahawver.com/; https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/ayurvedic-treatments ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaoV1PrYft4. 2021 Uncorked Good Stuff- from Fish Bladder to Soda Stains
Don't hate me, but I don't think that 2021 sucked! If you've listened to some of my podcasts before or have visited my Facebook page, Laugh to Live!, you know that I talk about "Yes, and...ing" life, which means accepting and moving forward in a positive way. Yes, the pandemic has changed our lives but we still need to live them. Other than some inconveniences (like wearing a mask) or having some races get cancelled, my year was pretty good overall. I started this podcast in May of 2021 and I am damn proud of the content. So please uncork your favorite beverage, slip into your favorite chair and listen to this recap about the great guests I had on Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl. And if you feel so moved, please go back and listen to prior recordings to learn, laugh and maybe get a bright idea to help you move forward in 2022.

My Minutes of Merry Musings: The gift of value
During this hectic month leading up to the holidays, I’ve taken the month off from recording full episodes with guests so that I can bring you much shorter minutes of merry musings. These are just my thoughts on different categories that I’m hoping might help you feel lighter this holiday season and perhaps even think of things differently for the New Year. In this week’s episode of Merry Musings, I talk about the gift of value or should I say valuing? I share thoughts on my own life after some reflection, and I encourage you to value yourself, your relationships (personal & professional), loved ones and those in your community who often are under-valued. And join me next week for a compilation of highlights from my wonderful guests throughout this past year.

A healthy heap of gratitude!
Welcome to a special Thanksgiving edition of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl. In this episode I share what some listeners said they are grateful for and I share how my gratitude journal began in 2018 from an online Positive Psychology course that touted the health benefits of feeling grateful and more specifically, the practice of writing in a gratitude journal. In this episode, I share some entries from my journal and talk about some insights I learned about myself from this process. Remember to share this podcast with a friend who might enjoy and be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl.

Turkey, Taters & Pie With A Side of Kindness
It's that time of year again. Time to gather with loved ones to eat and drink too much! Well, we don't have to do that. We could focus on the conversations and laughter with friends and family, but food and drink do become a big part of our gatherings. This week I'm joined by dietitian and Clinical Coordinator for Dietetic Internships at Marywood, Micki Orlowsky...a woman who dishes out a heap of positivity and healthy servings of humor! She shares her approach to eating this time of year when we often have many opportunities to indulge. Join me next week for a special edition of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl on Wednesday, November 24, when my focus will be gratitude. I will be sharing some of the things I've written in various gratitude journals over time and I encourage you to share what you are grateful for. You can submit an audio message through Anchor or send me a message on Facebook at Funny Wine Girl Jeannine. Uncork some kindness this season!

Saluting A Friend and Veteran
Sometimes we let life get in the way of maintaining connections with people. I am so glad that for this week's podcast episode I was able to reconnect with my my friend Claudia who just retired from the Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer. We talk about her travels around the world with the Navy, the challenges and opportunities her military career has given her and the importance of having an open mind so that we can lessen the hate and negativity in this country and appreciate and respect one another. Thank you to all veterans who have afforded us the opportunity to live with freedom in this country! Let's remember to patronize veteran-owned businesses whenever and wherever possible. https://www.veteranownedbusiness.com/1305/vineyards-and-wineries

Choose Charming & Unique Over Big Box Finds
'Tis the season for holiday shopping. To many, that means hundreds of clicks. But this year, why not connect with local business owners rather than clicking on big box stores' websites? My guests this week are the owners of a charming shop in Scranton called The Perfected Pineapple...home to refined, repurposed and refurbished pieces of furniture and accessories that have been rescued from attics, cellars and curbs to find new life as charming one-of-a-kind pieces. Follow The Perfected Pineapple on Instagram and Facebook to appreciate their creativity and be sure to shop local this holiday season...and in every season! It does make a difference in our communities and in the lives of people you may actually know!

She wears her pink in her cheeks.
Nanci Oehrlein knows that life can be taken seriously and still be a laughing matter. After moving to Pennsylvania with her husband on the heart transplant list, she learned of her own breast cancer diagnosis. She experienced the gravity and reality of their situation but also chose to make the experience lighter with a heavy dose of humor that made her and her health care team turn pink in the cheeks from laughter. I hope you'll be inspired by Nanci's story to add more humor to your life for whatever it is you are dealing with. And if that happens to be a cancer diagnosis for you or someone you know, visit https://www.chemoangels.com/ to find support from people like Nanci, who know what you're going through.

The Close-Up Scranton Needed: The Office Convention
I have long been a proclaimer of all good things about Scranton, so I couldn't have been happier when "The Office" seemed to bring lots of positive attention to my hometown. And apparently, during the pandemic, younger people fell in love with the series and are also now big fans. You know it's good if the kids like it! This is all great. Anything that gets our fair city recognition is cool with me. But what really helped garner national attention for The Electric City and attract many visitors from out of state and even country, were The Office Convention and Office Wrap Party...both illuminated thanks to one of the key organizers...Tim Holmes. Like me, Tim is a proud Scranton native who has chosen to remain here and is happy to sing the city's praises. If you're a fan of The Office, Scranton, or both, I know you'll enjoy this conversation with Tim as he shares behind-the-scenes stories of his time spent with cast members, writers and the originator of the American version of The Office. You will walk away satisfied! (That's what she said.) Don't forget to share this podcast with someone you know would love it! Thank you for listening and thank you for sharing.

What do the Chess King, Sondheim and Nebraska have in common?
In this special bonus episode of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl I speak with my friend, fellow comedian Mary Rapach about her road to coming out that traveled through Arizona and Nebraska, and brought her home to NEPA...for love! I hope you'll listen as we discuss stereotypes, the use of pronouns, and the importance of just treating one another well. Check out ScrantonImprov.com to learn about future workshops you can take with Mary and find out where and how you can watch or participate in upcoming comedy magic!

Oliver Finds His Ray of Light: Coming Out
Oliver has been my friend for over 36 years. I smile knowing that I am the only one allowed to call him "Ollie." Ollie has a way of making me giggle and snort laugh whenever we get together. He is the type of friend I am always comfortable around and feel so fortunate to have in my life. He and I can talk about pretty much anything and have recorded two podcast episodes previously...one on movies and the other on music. I am especially proud to share this episode because I think people need to hear this story and I'm hoping Oliver's story may provide a ray of light to others. With October 11 being National Coming Out Day, I am pleased and proud to share a fun, heart-to-heart conversation with Ollie in which he shares his Coming Out story.

Fab 50s - Writing Her Own Story
As the month of September draws to a close, I'm concluding my Fab 50s series featuring fantastic women in their 50s who are rocking it! This week I have a conversation with my friend and editorial client Tina Gallagher, author of sports-themed romance (and more coming soon). I've known Tina for many years so this was an especially fun and casual conversation about how writing fan fiction as a young girl has blossomed into her full-time gig! Don't be afraid to close the chapter you're currently in to start a whole new book in your life. Cheesy and trite metaphor? Yes, it is. But the point is valid - go after your dreams. Write your own story. Check out Tina's novels at: https://tinagallagherbooks.com/ and follow her on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok for fun videos.

A near-death health scare changed her life. Now there is not a day that goes by without her hiking trails and enjoying nature. In fact, she's on her way to hiking her second Appalachian Peak this Fall. She'll make you laugh and reflect...what's better than that?! If you enjoy this podcast, please share it with a friend. Telling Their Stories
Welcome to this week's episode of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl in which I have a conversation with the funny, smart and thoughtful Megan Goetz...a Philadelphia-based comedian and podcaster. Meg, who is co-host of the paranormal podcast: Real Chills, was recently a finalist in Philly's Funniest Comedians and will record a comedy album in October. On this week's episode, Meg gives us a preview of what listeners can expect from her new podcast launching on September 13 called Their Stories. On this podcast she talks with friends and family members of people who were murdered so she can share their stories and make sure they are remembered as more than victims. Flashback to A Conversation about Humor, Laughter
Last week I brought you some humor in the form of my recent stand-up comedy set. This week I dusted off a conversation from 2011 that I had with the very gracious and kind, Teresa Velardi who had invited me to speak on her then weekly Transformational Tuesdays call. I share a bit about myself and more about the power of humor and laughter. I get pretty specific so for those of you who might "geek out" about topics you are passionate about, you might enjoy hearing about some research done on laughter and humor and the history of laughter yoga. Uncork (open up) and let some laughter pour out. Share it with others and help make the day flavorful and positive!

If you can smell me, back up: Jeannine's comedy
Laughter connects us in a way that nothing else quite can. We've all faced enough challenges and changes in 2020 and 2021 and we all could benefit from more laughter. It's like the fountain to quench our collective thirst. And I could not have been more delighted to be able to create and share in laughs at the recent Wine, Women and Wealth event sponsored by NET Credit Union on July 22, 2021 at Maiolatesi Wine Cellars. While the audio could be a bit stronger (my apologies), in this week's episode of Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl, you'll get to hear my stand-up set from this recent event. And if you want to see the set so that you can understand the visual jokes, check out my YouTube Channel (Jeannine Luby). Sit back, relax, uncork something special and let the laughs pour out! And please, remember to share this podcast episode if you enjoy it.
