The Untold Tales of Strangers

The Untold Tales of Strangers

By Jimmy

Each episode I will have over a guest and cook a meal of their choice. We will have a brief discussion about the recipe and how the food was. However, this show is about them and celebrating their lives. Although there are many celebrities and influencers out there, I believe we have so many people around us who are not the average Joe we make them out to be! So, if you like food and good conversation about life in general, come join in the fun!

The Untold Tales of me (Alicia Snyman)

The Untold Tales of me (Alicia Snyman)

Brain: Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it!

Me: Ons gaan nou braai!

I am opposed to the word barbeque since South African’s call it a braai! Rolling the rrrr sound and stretching the aai sound! (Like in Hi without the H)

Alicia invited some people over for her meal. She requested roosterkoek (bread on an open fire) and boerewors (South African sausage). Obviously, we did not stop there. She had to hold me back to make sure we don’t end up with chops, steak, sosaties (skewers) and more. So, we settled for peri-peri chicken wings and bread and butter pudding to accompany the meal.

In this episode of the Untold Tales of Strangers we chat about moving to the UK and homesickness.

The Untold Tales of what it takes to succeed as a working Nigerian lady

The Untold Tales of what it takes to succeed as a working Nigerian lady

Oh my goodness I baked the jollof! Genevieve Bosah and I had a chat about rebranding yourself and a good laugh at my cheeky method of making Nigerian Jollof rice.  I recently became a fan of Yewende Komolafe – a Nigerian lady who was asked by the New York Times to do her take on 10 Essential Nigerian recipes. Jollof was one of them. As she says in the video, she chooses to bake hers since it saves a lot of time. I agree.

As Genevieve mentions in the podcast she loves writing check out her articles called UP NEPA: The Pavlovian response to mediocrity and Talent is not enough. Genevieve was also recently nomitated by her students for the Student Choice award. Here is her ode to them

She also does a mentined her favourite film as Gladiator, where a good read for her was The Alchemist.

Find the full recipe for the Jollof Rice and Chicken here.

The Untold Tales of a Toad in a Hole Loving Aspiring Musician

With toad in the hole as our dinner my housemate, Steve Walls, told me about his journey on creating his own music and how he overcame some of his fears. Be sure to check out his music. He also mentioned the Godfather, Chinatown and Back to the future as films he would recommend while also mentioning The Leopard being one of his favourite books. Have a listen to Radiohead and Steely Dan as some of his picks for great music. Be sure to also have a look at the recipe. Steve's band Tokyo Green has also dropped in the meantime. Give them a listen
