Czech out Zoe Katz's Experience with CIS in Prague
This week, we have the opportunity to hear from Zoe Katz, a senior here at UofSC studying Marketing and Management, who will be speaking about her education abroad experience in Prague, Czech Republic. Zoe is joined by Kent Moore, a director of CIS, which is one of the Global Partner Providers that UofSC partners with to send students abroad. Zoe and Kent walk us through the Czech way of life, including studying in Prague, experiencing Eastern European culture, studying abroad alone during a global pandemic, and the countless life lessons that come out of these experiences. The Journey to Sevilla, Spain
Today’s episode features Virginia Taylor, a senior studying Marketing and Finance. Taylor went abroad Spring of 2021 to Sevilla, Spain to become more fluent in Spanish and to learn the culture, people, and the country of Spain. The beautiful country of Spain is one of UofSC’s most popular destinations and our conversation with Virginia helps you understand why. The Gilman Scholarship: Studying Arabic in the Middle East
Welcome back to Global Gamecocks!
Today's episode features Meoshay Jefferson, a recent Political Science graduate who studied abroad in Jordan. She is a recipient of the Gilman Scholarship, a grant funded by the U.S. Department of State that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to encourage underrepresented students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions. It also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages (those deemed important to national security). Our conversation touches on how receiving the Gilman helped Meoshay study Arabic in the Middle East.

Global Classroom: Next Energy in Germany
On today's episode of the Global Gamecock Podcast, Patrick Steimer sits down with Dr. Edward Gatzke to learn about his Global Classroom, 'Next Energy Germany.' Germany is a global leader in sustainable energy sources, and students on Dr. Gatzke's program will see engineering and sustainable energy put into practice at places like the BMW museum and factory in Munich and the geothermal spas in Erding. Join Patrick in learning about what it would be like to visit Germany as a UofSC student on this 2 week trip through some of Bavaria's most famous cities.
Global Classroom: Fantastic Fiction and Where to Find It
On this first edition of our Global Classroom series, Patrick Steimer sits down with Dr. Nicole fisk to talk about her Harry Potter themed Global Classroom, 'Fantastic Fiction and Where to Find it.' We dive into why Porto, Portugal was an inspirational location for J.K. Rowling and discuss what makes Harry Potter a great example of fictional writing. In addition to Portugal, students on Dr. Fisk's program will travel to London, England and visit some of the sights which inspired places such as Platform 9 and 3/4ths. Dr. Fisk's program is just one of the many Global Classrooms offered by UofSC Study Abroad and demonstrates the unique learning experiences offered by our faculty.

On our first episode of Global Gamecocks, we dive into the basics of studying abroad. What is study abroad? Where can you go? Is it for everyone and is it safe?
Our guest hosts, Hannah Grace Burroughs and Chrissie Faupel, cover all of these topics and more. Hannah Grace, a junior at the University of South Carolina, studied abroad in Spain during her sophomore year. Chrissie is the assistant director of study abroad advising and has traveled all over the world as a student, teacher and member of the Peace Corps. These two women offer insight on what studying abroad means to them and share details from their own experiences abroad.
