Felicia Johnson, Sevenfold Coaching

Felicia Johnson, Sevenfold Coaching

Felicia Johnson is the founder of Sevenfold Coaching in Little Rock. She is also the author of "Do You Feel Like a Fraud? A certified life coach's guide to help you recognize and overcome impostor syndrome." Felicia is from a military family, and married into it as well. Her broad geographical and life experiences seem to have prepared her well for her entrepreneurial life. Our conversation was easy, thoughtful, and fun. I can't wait to see her again. Check out links to her business and book below, as well as other things we discussed.

Uppity Women is hosted by Stephanie Harris, founder of Women Lead Arkansas, a non-partisan nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and girls to engage in politics, policy, and leadership.

This podcast is meant to showcase women (and men!) doing cool things; be a place for hard conversations we need to have before we can make progress (race, politics, feminism, etc.); bring people together to figure sh!t out and get stuff done; and generally thumb our noses at anyone who would tell us what we may or may not do as women.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

Grant Tennille-Economic Development

I needed hours to discuss with Grant Tennille all the things on my mind related to economic development. As the former director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, he has some things to say, too. We focused a lot on Little Rock. How fantastic it is and what needs improvement. There's a lot of both!

Alese Stroud

Alese Stroud

Alese Stroud is a badass. She has been in the tech world for decades, starting when she decided to teach herself coding to be able to do what she wanted, the way she wanted. Because THAT'S WHAT WE DO. Alese and I met at Blue Sail Coffee at the Tech Park in Little Rock. There's a lot of background noise. Sorry. But you'll get used to it. This episode may be a little much for anyone not interested or somewhat well-versed in Startup World. But midway or so, we start to talk about women in this milieu and the challenges we face--from funding, to getting appropriate attention for our ideas, to creating a more equitable ecosystem.  I hope you enjoy. #UppityWomenUnite

Henry David Thoreau: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things..”

Michelle Barnes-Real Images

Michelle Barnes is the founder of Real Images. From www.realimages.org:

Michelle's vision for Real Images formed in 2006 when she saw that young girls didn't have many positive or healthy images of women in the media. In 2007, she began conducting self-image workshops for teenagers and facilitating empowerment workshops for young women. She finally decided to make her passion wide spread when she founded Real Images in 2014. Michelle is a native of south Arkansas. She has a Bachelor of Sociology and a Master of Public Administration both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Andrea Zekis, Part 1

In our very first podcast episode, we talk to Andrea Zekis, a transgender activist, Clinton School of Public Service student, future (Fall 2019) UA Little Rock law student, Bernie-introducer, appropriate pronoun teacher, and much, much more!
