Is God Okay With Abortion?
Inside today’s podcast, I have with me, Angela Jasper. Angela is a daughter of God and a follower of Jesus as well as a wife and homeschooling mother. She is called to speak truth boldly in a world full of lies trusting that God will use her for His glory. In a self-focused, self-care, self-worshipping, you do you kinda world, she wants to encourage sisters in Christ to live Radiant, Extraordinary lives Doing the will of God, not their own. We are talking about abortion today, a topic I have never talked about publicly before but God nudged me, and I knew it was time. Things we discussed: Tell me a little bit about your background. How long have you been following Jesus and what inspired you to do so? What caused you to become so vocal about the topic of abortion? In one of your posts, you said, "Satan loves killing God's image-bearers. And we've become asleep enough, hard-hearted enough to let Him do it without a fight." First of all, I agree entirely with you. Secondly, I'm curious about how do you think this happened? Why do you believe abortion is wrong? What can we do to fight against evil and not become evil too? But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. ************************ Other Resources: You Don't Have To Be Perfect by Vanessa Luu Truth and Tools Workbook by Vanessa Luu The Relevant Old Testament by Vanessa Luu To Support Leave a review and help spread the word about this uplifting podcast. Do You Place Your Value Only in "Work"?
God has not called me only to work for His kingdom., but to peace, rest, refreshment, and delight in Him. A somewhat new realization on my journey. I always think that only my work counts in the eyes of God. Do you feel like that too? Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” So in my mind, that means getting to work so that I can honor God and fulfill my purpose! Recently, the Holy Spirit has been showing me that His call to rest, stillness, and beauty is just as important as the work He’s called me to do. I’ve been practicing rest, stillness, and embracing God’s beauty for quite a while now, but I didn’t count it in the way I count work. While I know everything God calls us to is good I didn’t realize that I was placing different values on them. God has not called us only to work for His kingdom. He calls us to delight in Him. I’m so tough on myself that I think delighting in the Lord is a nice gift that I shouldn’t expect. But it’s more than that. “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” -Psalms 37:4-5 Our delight in the Lord goes both ways. “The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way.” -Psalms 37:23 “I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” -Isaiah 61:10 The meaning of delight in all of these verses is either jubilant exhortation over God or good pleasure. Either way, you slice it, delight is a desirable experience. I know it will take some time to correct my habit of placing more value on work than on delighting in God and His word, but the Spirit is leading me, and I will follow. Rest, pleasure, stillness, and works, are all gifts from God, and they are all found in Him. They all matter to God, and God gave them to all of us. ************************ Other Resources: You Don't Have To Be Perfect by Vanessa Luu Truth and Tools Workbook by Vanessa Luu The Relevant Old Testament by Vanessa Luu To Support Leave a review and help spread the word about this uplifting podcast. What Does Jesus Say About Women?
Inside today's podcast, I have with me, Rachael Groll. Rachael is Ordained pastor, author, wife, mother and missionary. She has written her new Bible study, She Hears: Learning to Listen to Jesus, to help women grow in their understanding of how God sees them to discover the purpose He has for their lives. We talk about: The power of vulnerability. The inspiration for She Hears. Our validation in Jesus. How to discern God's call on your life. Understanding God's Word! This episode is jam-packed with goodness! I love it! Truth Bombs! We avoid vulnerability for at least two reasons. 1. We fear facing our true self. 2 We fear the rejection of others. But if you can't be honest with yourself and before God, nothing will change. "If Jesus validates me, it doesn't matter what anyone else says. Have You Been Transformed?
Courtnaye and I love reading the Bible, not because there is something extra special about us, but because we've experienced the transforming power of God's written word! Some have claimed that reading the Bible comes easier to me than it does to them, but in truth, it has nothing to do with me! It's not about what I'm good at or what you're good at its about this: Who do you love, who do you want to hear from, how do you want to live, who do you want to love? IF you are seeking your Creator He's not going to hide from you. But I find that 'we' spend so much time and energy trying to find our own way. We spend decades on it and all the while God has it all figured out. More about Courtnaye: Inside today’s podcast, I have with me Courtnaye Richard. Courtnaye is the founder of Inside Out Media Group, LLC - a faith-based PR, Marketing & Mentorship Agency. In her 15 years of experience, she has worked with platforms such as PBS, CBN, TCT, Yahoo, including local television and print publications. Courtnaye is also the founder of Inside Out with Courtnaye, a ministry that helps women grow in Christ while equipping them for their calling. She is an author, contributing writer for ibelieve.com and YouVersion. Her speaking appearances include She Speaks, FlourishWriters, and Entrusted Women’s Conference. Her blog, Inside Out with Courtnaye reaches thousands of women across the globe! Scripture References: James 1:22. Even Life's Ugliness Can Be Redeemed
Inside today’s podcast, I have with me, Laurie Meek Watkins. Laurie spends her time writing a column for the local newspaper, writing on her blog, singing, dancing, and digging in the dirt! She loves to help hurting people find peace and meaning in their struggle like she has with God. We talked a lot about how God even uses our ugly times in life and redeems them! Laurie’s message for you: “Precious one.  Please remember you are loved with an everlasting love. Jesus wants you to fall fully and completely into His arms.  Jesus has already won your battle for you.  He calls you to come to Him and REST.  Let go. REST.  This road may be hard - But you are never alone when you give everything to your Savior.  YOU are Loved.  YOU have a purpose. Choose Jesus and be FREE. More about Laurie: Laurie Meek Watkins has always referred to herself as an imperfect “Type A” Lady and a “Cracked Pot” .  —Little did she know she’d become...shattered.  Laurie shares her journey through healing and humor in her blog, www.typeachecklist.com,  her Instagram @typeachecklist, and Facebook: Type A Checklist. ************************ Other Resources: You Don't Have To Be Perfect by Vanessa Luu Truth and Tools Workbook by Vanessa Luu BRAND NEW The Relevant Old Testament by Vanessa Luu website: bodysoulandmind.info To Support Leave a review and help spread the word about this uplifting podcast. Bonus Ep. 12 Joseph (pt. 1)
“Joseph has become one of my favorite characters of the Bible and not until fairly recently. Hopefully, you have been able to feel my excitement for God’s word throughout this book so far; the story of Joseph convinces me that the plans of God are indeed good and inspire me to stand firm in the Lord. No doubt, no fear, no complaining, just trust.” -The Relevant Old Testament vol. 1 Chapter 39 of Genesis offers me a very great encouragement. “We will go through ugly periods and some that are very beautiful, but through it all, God is there, providing us with the strength we need to persevere to the end of our story.” After talking to one of my best friends I was inspired to create my own audio version of my book, The Relevant Old Testament for people who want to listen during their commute, or while doing the dishes.😉 It is still recommended to sit down and go through this book as it involves a lot of one-on-one writing time with God, but I believe you will still find this audio version helpful as you get started. Speak Life & Win!
Wilma Hollis and I had a wonderful conversation about our lives with God. My favorite part was when she compared living and a child of God requires that we speak a different language to overcome adversity! She said what I've felt for so long. Not in just speaking differently but living differently. I feel like she does. So many take Salvation, but that's it! "...When we're believers, and we're excited, but we only take salvation. We don't realize that we're supposed to change our language to a different kingdom. Moving to a different country requires a different language." Three ways that Wilma knows God is calling her: 1. What's asked feels "too big" 2. The nudge won't stop 3. Will address a negative experience from the past. Wilma Hollis is an author, speaker, and encourager from the core of her being. Her mission is to empower every woman on the planet with —the practical application of —the Word of God. She equips women of faith to align their words with God’s word, overcome adversity and live victoriously. Her new book, LifeSpeak 101: Speak Life and Win! will empower you to activate the promises of God through the method of a trademarked language she calls, “LifeSpeaking”. As Wilma always says, “God has already declared you a winner. Now, it’s time for you to speak like one.” Wilma is a Chicago native, wife, and mother of 3 children. Connect with Wilma! Bonus Ep. 11 Wrapping Up Jacob chp. 8
We've read a lot about Jacob, but as we wrap up his story I was reminded once again that we don't have to be perfect to be used by Him.  Jacob is improving and growing in the ways of the Lord, and that's what's important. Personally, I was disappointed that after all these years he was still showing favoritism to Rachel; It frustrated me. But Jacob doesn't need to meet my expectations. He is complete in the Lord! You're Already Seen
Jen and I have a good healthy dose of REAL TALK in this episode.  We talked about how unrealistic expectations hold you back, feeling unworthy, anxiety, disordered eating, the perks of self-publishing, the benefit of a healthy perspective, and our relationship with Christ! There is something for everyone in this episode. Jen said something during the interview that I felt fit all of these topics under one umbrella, and it was the concept of already being seen, and being known. Whether we acknowledge it or not there is a strong desire in each of us to be known. I know I have felt it and still do, but the truth is we are already known. We are already seen by our creator, and this is good news!  Holding this healthy perspective helps us to battle and conquer all of our struggles. Jen says: I was born and raised in New Jersey where I still live today with my husband, kids, and dog. In addition to this, I have been a special education teacher in the same school for over fifteen years now. While I have been writing my entire life, I started to work on this two part series, The Art of a Messy House, eight years ago. Then, after a time of fasting in 2019, I was prompted to let go of the past and “become who I needed when I was younger.” This turned my childhood wishes into my work and I started publishing. In addition to this, being a middle school English Language Arts teacher not only adds experience to my writing, but also passion to my purpose. My main mission in life is serving God. Inspired by my faith and love for my family and friends, I now live to bring positivity to others each day. So far, I have published How to Be Kind and How to Be Fearless, two books in The Art of the Messy House children’s part of the series. The Art of a Messy House is part of my mission to mainstream faith in a way that brings hope to others. After I was set free from decades of battling anxiety, anorexia nervosa, and depression, I promised never to stop sharing this joy and love with others as I learn to love my mess. From Grief to Faith
Besides her story of finding faith through her grief, Irenee also talks about how perfectionism and anxiety affect her life. Her story is beautiful and I know it will touch your soul. Y.Y. Chan was born in Hong Kong but grew up in sunny Brisbane, Australia where she had Christmas during summer. She returned to Hong Kong to teach English after graduating from university with First Class Honours. She also has an M.A. in English Language Teaching and has been teaching English for over ten years. When her father passed away, she took a break from teaching to travel, read, and write. She now tutors English and works freelance as an editor, writer, and instructor for various educational institutes in Hong Kong.  She has received multiple international book awards including the Royal Dragonfly Book Award (1st & 2nd Place) and the Readers' Favorite Book Award (Gold Medal) for her first two books, which she self-published in 2020. Lazy & Being Still- Are They The Same?
Inside today's podcast, I have with me Carrie Cotton. Carrie and I have a great conversation about Being Still (and how it doesn't just mean doing nothing). We talked about our circle of influence in spreading the gospel, our families, and writing!  There's something for everyone! Being still is a mindful practice. "We are just trying to toss in enough rest so that we don't die." - Carrie Cotton.  When Carrie said this during our interview my exact response was "oh my goshhhhhhh!"  This is how most of us are living! Carrie is a life-long writer, exploring her passion for creative storytelling from a young age.  She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and attended East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas where she earned a BA in English. She currently lives with her husband and four children in the quaint Appalachian mountain town of Grassy Creek, North Carolina. When she's not writing or homeschooling, you can find her enjoying the fresh air and sunshine on the family farm.  Carrie loves to write emotionally charged and gripping fiction, but above all, she seeks to glorify God with her words, and always point her readers towards Jesus. Bonus Ep. 10 Saul and David-Chapter 7 (pt.2)
This might just be my favorite chapter in The Relevant Old Testament!! I love the message of Saul and David's story. Are you a Saul and David? Tune into chapter 7 (pt. 2) in its audio version!! Saul was not a bad guy, just like there are so many of us who aren't "bad people," but our relationship with Jesus is very much at a surface level. We might get heavily into our religion for a while, into our church, into outreach programs, etc., and those things are great, but if we aren't digging down deep into the pit of our hearts and revealing them to God as a form of surrender, then we are like Saul. Bonus Ep.8 Chapter 6 Jacob
We now know Jacob pretty well, but to make sure we keep our story straight, let’s summarize. Jacob is the younger son of Isaac. He left his home after deceiving his brother Esau (with the help of his mother Rebekah) and has been staying with Laban (her brother) in the land of Paddan-aram. Jacob worked seven years for his bride only to be tricked and given Leah (the older sister) instead. Laban agreed to give Jacob Rachel too (the one he really wanted), and together they had a lot of babies! Jacob has shown a wonderful work ethic and has done well by his father-in-law Laban. God has continued to bless Jacob and show him favor. Not everything has been easy, but through all the hiccups and snags in his marriages, Jacob has kept a good attitude, and I believe that this exemplifies the work that God is doing in his heart. Let's see what happens in chapter 31 of Genesis! The new free audio version is available of The Relevant Old Testament- Illuminating Lessons From Imperfect People! The People Pleasing Curse
Inside today’s podcast, I have Kim Wilch with me. She’s a wife, mom, proud grandma, a wonderful writer, and friend. She enjoys spending her time volunteering, crafting, writing, taking pictures, learning new things, and camping! In today's episode, we focus on the curse of people-pleasing and how to ditch it and start living authentically! People pleasers work harder and harder but see no positive change. Their hearts bleed for others, but in this people-pleasing state, it only drains and destroys you. You can only control yourself. Think about how unreasonable it is to push other people into doing what THEY want because it makes THEM feel comfortable? This only leads to division and destruction. Is Faith Just a Five Letter Word?
Today's conversation is AMAZING!  We talk about the Holy Spirit and all that He means in our lives.  The core message that shone through was about faith and how it requires action. Faith without action is just a five letter word. James was telling us this in chapter 2:17. "Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself." I used to hold the mindset that unless I was doing the works, I wasn't saved.  This is good news because we don't have to worry about the work we're supposed to do.  God will lead us to it when we abide in Him. Join in the conversation and be encouraged and blessed.  Melissa Robinson. Melissa is a wife & stay-at-home mom of two boys. She enjoys gardening, nature photography & spending time with her family. Fiction is Fun!
If you want to get a one on one with an amazing fiction author then don’t miss this episode! Today’s episode is a little different because it’s mostly all about the fun, a little about the work, and the love of the craft. It’s so important to dive into "play." One of the ways I’ve started doing that is by reading fiction. For years a thought fiction was irresponsible and unproductive. It turns out that it’s inspiring and fosters creative growth that we desperately need, even if we don’t think so. Are you a striver of perfection? Let me challenge you to tune in to this episode and have a little fun with us. :) Danielle Harrington is a high school chemistry teacher with a passion for the pen and a knack for storytelling. She got her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Biola University, and although she's a hardcore science nerd, she's always been a lover of the arts. She grew up acting and singing and has turned her love for drama into writing. Danielle lives vicariously through her characters and considers it great fun because she "gets to play all the parts". Danielle lives in LA with her husband, Steven, and two cats, Moose and Turtle. She is working on a four-book young adult dystopian fiction series, and she's beyond thrilled to be launching her debut series through Acorn Publishing. Seriously friends, do yourself a favor and check her books out!! You will not be sorry. Living Your Season Well
Carolyn Pereira writes about finding your ultimate fulfillment in following your particular call - especially for those just starting out, starting over, or starting to burn out in the life they chose. A trained vocational director and college advisor turned homeschooling mother of 6 kids (under 10), she and her husband have built a thriving and vibrant life of simply following the Lord's promptings in every moment, regardless of size, whether it is accepting the call to smile at a stranger,  eat better, have (another) baby, or leave everything and move all the way from Idaho to Vermont. They just finished building a new home where they plan to drink in every sunrise and raise their children to pursue God with everything they are. Links for Carolyn! The Dangers of Self-Doubt
Inside this episode, I have with me money coach Katie Jones. We discuss Katie’s struggles with self-doubt and how the enemy uses that against her and what she does to combat this.  Katie and I discuss the dangers of self-doubt and how those seeds become planted in our minds when we think about them instead of casting them out and filling them up with what is good, true, pure, excellent, and righteous.  We don't have to hide our mistakes for fear of looking like an imposter in our field or role.  Shedding light on our flaws and mistakes helps others realize it’s okay that to make mistakes too. We have a forgiving God who knows we’re going to mess up. Katie offers many practical money tips that are rooted in the truth of God's word.  I pray you are blessed by this episode! Contagious Courageous Surrender
As I observe the world around me, I notice that the concept of surrender is not very attractive to most.  Many have struggled with the idea of letting go of control, it feels too scary.  I know that as I have practiced daily surrender there are plenty who are confused by me and even think that  I don't care about a specific issue because I've let go.  The truth is, I have put the issue in God's hands where it belongs, and then I let him guide me in His perfect timing. Today Lauri and I discuss surrender in great detail.  I know that the Holy Spirit will bless you as you listen. Lauri is a wife, mother, grandmother, PHD professor, musician, music therapist, and new faith-based writer!  I'm so pleased that she has joined me back on the podcast. Keeping Faith When You're Angry at God
Inside today's podcast we discuss: Loss/grieving Surrender Singing/Art Connection  and the will to keep going. A little bit about Ree: "I'm a 43-year-old vocal coach, singer, and writer that just moved to Dundee, Scotland with my husband of 20 years and our 2 fur babies. Originally from Phoenix, then a blip in China, then Nashville the last 4 years, I'm an Enneagram 4, working on my first book, It Is Not Well With My Soul: Surviving Child Loss Without Hating God. It's a grief memoir that focuses on the process of reconnecting with God after devastating life circumstances. We lost our surprise gift of a child unexpectedly when I was 40 years old, shortly after her full term, healthy birth, and have not been able to have any other children so far, though we long to. Trusting God through the grief of loss and infertility is a real challenge and something I'm definitely imperfect at. I write a lot about this process in my blog and in a chapter I contributed recently for a compilation book called Life, Repurposed: Stories of Grace, Hope and Restored Faith. It's being published this April. The Father- Pt. 3- The Prodigal Son Mini-Series
Our final episode of the prodigal son mini-series closes with our last character, the Father. I have to admit that I haven't spent much time thinking about the Father beyond the thought that he seemed a little foolish to welcome back his son with open arms. Wouldn't discipline have been more fitting? His part seems so small, but I'm sure that I'll have a brand new inspired way of looking at the Father that I will carry with me on my journey after this conversation. I am grateful to have back with me Jennifer Hayes. I have so enjoyed digging into these two brothers' characteristics and unraveling all the symbolism that we today can connect to our own lives. I've really gobbled up looking into the younger brother as an example of extravagance gone wrong, as well as the vast lack of extravagance in the older brother and how both lead to a wasteland. Our story takes place in Luke 15:11-32 We also make reference to 1 Corinthians 4:15. Prodigal pt.2
Welcome back with me, Jennifer Hayes.  Jennifer has graciously shared some of her notes with us.  Please enjoy this comparison sheet between the two brothers to help enhance your own study. The story we are discussing takes place in Luke  Younger Brother: Grace is owed doesn't understand the value of his family position Extravagant with himself no personal standard no moral/material restraint finds himself in an environmental wasteland *moral poverty Older Brother: Grace is earned doesn't understand the nature of his family position extravagant with no one (not even himself) no personal kindness/ is in moral/material bondage (too much restraint) Is in an internal/spiritual wasteland *spiritual poverty. Finding Your Worth
Inside today's Podcast, I have with me, Jennifer Riales.  She is a freelance writer for a local magazine called The Roanoker. She's been blogging for almost three years at Pen, Paper, Coffee because all you need is a cup of coffee and some paper and pen.  She currently lives in Roanoke, Virginia with her husband, son, two cats, and their dog.  We all yearn to fit in, to belong.  Perhaps it started on the playground in elementary school, but the desire still exists in our daily lives.  Some are aware of this desire to belong and have a healthy grasp on it and some live with some sort of self-esteem issue or disorder?  Perhaps the desire to belong has transformed into an addiction, chronic pain, the possibilities are endless. We all want to belong, and we all do belong to our creator.  He will always have his arms open, waiting for you to find that belonging in Him. Cathleen Garber is a full-time mom to her seven children, five of whom joined her family through the heartbreak and miracle that is adoption. Normalizing the adoptive family dynamic is close to her heart. In her spare time, she is also a part-time author. She has recently started an online page and a companion support group called Mama Needs a Break to offer support and community for Mamas as they navigate their motherhood journey.  The page can be found here https://www.facebook.com/Mama-Needs-a-Break-114406327006038 and the support group can be found here https://www.facebook.com/groups/306069977097228 Other Resources: You Don't Have To Be Perfect by Vanessa Luu Truth and Tools Workbook and support group. website: bodysoulandmind.info

Who's Standards Are You Following?
Inside today's podcast, I have with me Ashley Price. She is a Homemaking and Homeschool Expert who helps Christian moms balance running their home, strengthening their marriage, supporting their kids without sacrificing their sanity and me-time. She's been credited with creating the Christian Mom’s Netflix with her signature monthly membership, Prudent Homemaker. Her journey began in 2014 when a missionary knocked on my door and introduced her to Christ. It was a crazy ride to go from, let’s call it worldly, to a Christian homemaker. She currently lives in the woods of South Georgia with her husband, two boys, and two black labs (that think they are lap dogs). In this episode, we discuss God's standards vs. the world's standards. Honestly, the boldness of this topic may offend you, but it's always important to share the truth for the sake of love. Ashley has created a special link just for us!  Use the link below to access her homemaker program with over 100 recorded trainings.  Do your feathers ruffle when you hear the term submissive? Hello friends! In today’s bonus episode, I’m bringing you something new, but it won’t be new for long, as I intend to share these with you every month. Support by clicking here! Today I will be sharing a sample from my current new work in progress, a brand new book called The Relevant Old Testament. I’ve been sampling it out to readers and so far they are eating it up. I could not be happier about this. I’m so glad they are enjoying it and benefitting from what they read. Marilyn said, “The way you can put it in today’s language really does connect the old testament to us now. God is certainly giving deep understanding and you communicate it so well. This would be a great daily devotional book that gives encouragement... especially when I life is hard now for so many and so many different ways!” Sharon said, “Oh girl! This is good. I like the intro because it draws you to want to read more. Getting Started, is a great transition from your intro. I appreciate the fact you clarify in the being believer and follower, pure gold! It is sad to see so many believers, but not followers. I am excited to get the next sample.” Marilyn and Sharon, I thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to give these samples a read. Today dear listener, I’m going to share with you the first 2 samples of this book. Message me if you’d like to send some feedback my way! The Right Way?
I welcome you warmly to the month of November and invite you to participate in my gratitude giveaway. Simply email vanessa@bodysoulandmind.info and share with me something specific that you are grateful to God for this month. I’ll throw in an extra entry for you if what you're grateful for is unique and or thoughtful. We’ve been through a lot these past few months and I think a dose of gratitude would do the soul good. I personally like to start my gratitude practice with the small and mundane and work my way up to the awesome and spectacular. It’s a lot of fun, so I hope you’ll give it a try. We have a good God, a phenomenal creator, so it’s easy to find something to thank Him for. Inside today’s podcast, I have with me, Simcha Melling. She is a wife, full-time working mom of three, writer, and a newly enrolled college student. She was a stay-at-home mom for over a decade and a homeschool teacher for five years. She writes to encourage and inspire others to choose joy and faith through the mundane and heartache in life. In her spare time, she enjoys reading inspirational fiction and self-improvement books, binge watching Netflix, and consuming way too much social media. How Comparison is Toxic to Your Soul
Inside today’s Podcast, I have with me Richella Parham.  She is a wife, mother, writer, and author of the award-winning book, Mythical Me. I’m so blessed to have her here today because I know she has a lot of great encouragement and practical application for us on how to stop the habit of comparison. Comparison is usually a very big component of perfectionism. It’s that constant evaluation of ourselves against the standards of this world. Are we measuring up? Can we try harder? Will we ever be enough? Believe it or not, these thoughts and questions we ask ourselves hinder us in our God-given purpose. We live less than we were created for while attempting to be more. I love this episode so much.  The conversation is rich with beauty and truth. More about Richella: Richella J. Parham is a speaker and author of the award-winning book Mythical Me: Finding Freedom from Constant Comparison. She serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Renovaré, a Christian spiritual formation ministry. With a birthmark covering more than a third of her body, Richella struggled from her earliest days with feeling that she never measured up. She now applies her experience and training to help others break free from the trap of constant comparison, clearing a path for struggling Christians to take hold of a life of confidence, compassion, and community. Inside today’s podcast, I have with me, Melissa Schneider. She’s a medical records paralegal by day and enjoys reading, writing, sketching, cooking and exercising when she's not at work.  Melissa writes about loss. The world will always tell us we need more. We need to have more. We need to be more. We need to achieve more. And if we don’t become more, we have failed. The church has told us that we need to be more too. We need to be like Jesus; perfect. "It's not possible but you have to try." We need to be righteous. We need to be different than we are now. And if we don't become like Jesus, most likely we'll be turned away at the gate.  Starting September 18th you can even receive ADDED support to this journey of deepening your faith in practical ways.  So what do you think, are you in???  Cool, click the link in my bio and select truth and tools.  If you're the type of person where more details are better go ahead  click here www.bodysoulandmind.info Other Resources: You Don't Have To Be Perfect by Vanessa Luu Truth and Tools Workbook and support group.

Living In The Unexpected
Inside today's podcast, I have with me Mabry Gardner.  It’s difficult and very stressful to live in a state where nothing is certain, when you don’t know whether to go left or right, up or down. My guest today shares some of her journey of graduating from college and having all her plans change in a matter of a few days. I found such courage and inspiration from talking with Mabry.  She is proof that when you open yourself up to the Holy Spirit He moves.  If Mabry had stayed in her comfort zone she wouldn't be where she is today! Mabry is a social worker and aspiring public speaker living in Northwest Arkansas with her 5 year old cat Ellis. She is passionate about building healthy community, celebrating small victories and trying to find a dance break in everyday. Most of her life she’s expressed herself through visual art, but has renewed her love of the written word and is learning how to take captive the scattered thoughts that she lets slip too many times and put them down on a page instead.  She writes regularly for her blog at serendipimoosetracks.com and also writes and does the layout and design for Paper&String, a monthly online care package from Lisa-Jo Baker, Christie Purifoy, and Elrena Evans, a la the Maplehurst Black Barn. She also designs the layout for the High Country News, a local newspaper. She and her husband have two children, and twin cats Quill & Ink. In her spare time she enjoys hiking in nearby Kananaskis Country, Canmore, and Banff, with bear spray handy, and reads like a fish as much as she can. Lies From The World-Bonus**1.1
Welcome to Bonus Episode #1-Lies from the world When referencing the world I don’t actually mean God’s creation, I mean it like Paul meant it in Romans 12:2. The World was created by God, and it was perfect, but then sin entered it and it’s never been the same. So to get the context correct the world could be synonymous with “the flesh” or just plain sin. Galatians 5:17 says, “For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” ESV This is the struggle we feel when we know Jesus. Make no mistake, whether you know Jesus or not you will struggle in this life, but when you choose to follow Him you begin to see these struggles in black and white, in flesh and in spirit. The world; the flesh; sin, lies to us to keep us in it. The flesh wants us to live from the flesh because the flesh is also of the enemy. Romans 8:7-8 says, “Because the mindset on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” NASB To give you a real-life relatable example let’s talk about the phrase, You do You, which is very current in our culture today. I like it, honestly, but without the truth backing it up it just doesn’t work. The lie around this statement, you do you, is that we can somehow manage everyone’s feelings and personalities so that we are all at peace. This won’t ever work. I wish people would figure this out and stop wasting their energy. “Well, what are you saying Vanessa? Are we not supposed to not care, not even try?” I’m so glad you asked. ☺️ Find your identity in Christ alone and then abide with Him every day. This way you get to be exactly who you were made to be AND if people don’t like you that’s okay, because your creator LOVES you. He cherishes you, He is delighted by you. Sounds amazing right? So is it really that easy? Yes and no. Yes because when you rest in your identity in Christ you are home and you are living in truth. No, because you actually still live in the earth and so you’ll have to bat away lies like this for the rest of your life. 🤷‍♀️. Is it worth it?? Yes. Living in Truth is 1,000x’s better than going along with the deception that the world has to offer. Romans says, 8:13 “For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Recognizing the lies of the flesh is so important because if you don’t recognize the lies your reality consists of living in them! I might not know you personally but I can guess that you’d rather actually live in truth than just simulate your life here on earth. Here’s the good news, you don’t have to figure this all out on your own! God wants to work it out with you! He wants to guide you and Keep you in his care! If this all sounds great but you’re not really sure how to work things out with God then I want to help. In section 2 of my Truth and Tools workbook I share practical application steps to help you draw near to God and I’m actually going to share the full section with you right now! So grab a pen and a piece of paper (or open up a fresh word document and lets do this!) Your sample today was from Section 2 of the Truth and Tools Workbook: Don't Let Fear Stop You Every section in this workbook was created to get you closer to God and provides practical application steps in each section. What you can expect as you go through this workbook is more time in God’s Word as you gain more understanding and clarity for the plans He has created for you. Don't Let Fear Stop You
The title of today’s episode, Don’t Let Fear Stop You, is one from my very own workbook, Truth and Tools- Practical Applications rooted in scripture to help you live in truth. It also makes a great companion to my first book, You Don’t Have to Be Perfect.   My guest, Emily PIerite share's how perfectionism was causing stress in her life and stealing her joy. Emily is a former high school English teacher and Teacher Leader for the State of Louisiana. She is a wife, a homemaker, and Women’s Fiction author. Emily describes Women’s Fiction as books by women, for women, about women and says the experience of writing her debut novel, “The Truth About Unspeakable Things,” has allowed her to combine her passions of reading, writing, and women’s advocacy in a way that she is excited to explore and build on in the future. One Woman Can Change The World
Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Ronne Rock. She is a professional writer and author of One Woman Can Change The World. She keeps herself busy traveling globally for her Orphan Outreach while using her creative talents.  (This episode was originally titled, Does God Require Perfection, and we do discuss that, but the bulk of the contents is more about Ronne's book, One Woman Can Change The World.) We discuss so many important topics, such as: -Does God require perfection?   -What does it look like to let go of all the "doing" and instead be present?  -Following the nudge of the Holy Spirit -Harmonizing with other women -And my favorite quote from her book, “I’m an impatient soul who wants to see results before I’ve put in the work. I’m a needy soul who likes to be affirmed. I’m a curious soul who comes dangerously close to running off cliffs as I chase illusions.”  I felt compelled to share with my listeners one of my personal definitions of perfectionism. Perfectionism is a fear-based habit in which we strive for the unattainable goal of perfection in an effort to minimize pain, shame, and blame. Some of the outcomes of practicing perfectionism are doubt, insecurity, dissatisfaction with one's achievements, being stuck in fear of failure, and fear of the unknown. Removing Doubt By Affirming Truth
Inside today’s podcast I have with me Angela Olinghouse. She is a wife and mother who often struggles with finding time to write.  In this episode, we discuss unblocking the fears that are holding us back from achieving the goals that God has put on our hearts. For those of you brand new here today, perfectionism is a destructive habit that plays a negative role in our lives. Perfectionism holds us back and it forces us to live from a place of fear instead of love. Perfectionism lies to us by keeping us in the not enough zone because when you strive for the impossible goal of perfection you will always find yourself in the lack.
