We talk about a range of healthy cooking, from batch cooking tips to what constitutes healthy food.

Elnette deeply cares about what our young generation are eating and how having different warm lunchboxes are a game-changer in more ways than she realised until she began doing this. So much so that she decided to create a cookbook to help and encourage others to follow suit and gain all the benefits of eating real food warm food at lunch instead of sandwiches, wraps, and other processed foods.

She shares:

Here we talk about optimising your time and clearing space to prioritise time for healthy batch cooking.

THE INNER WORK TO GET THE OUTER RESULT with Amy D'Ambrosio

THE INNER WORK TO GET THE OUTER RESULT with Amy D'Ambrosio

#28
In this episode, I'm joined by Amy D'Ambrosio, a health coach, helping people overcome the very things she has faced for nearly 45 years of her life and that is emotional and compulsive eating. From my experience of working with people over many years, I have observed many people experience emotional eating to varying degrees. Amy talks the extreme version, calling it a disease that is isolating, embarrassing and keeps a person in hiding and the desire to do something about it has to come from within which can be a very dark difficult thing to do alone.

Amy shares:

  • Her personal struggles
  • The steps she uses to help her clients
  • The importance of understanding triggers
  • Changing celebratory habits around food.

About Amy
Amy has been a compulsive overeater her entire life. She started young using food to cope with emotions.  Later, the frequency and quantity increased to binges. She weighed 270 lbs and was diabetic. She felt that I would never be able to manage my food addiction . At the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, she learned coping tools and became an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She lost the excess weight and eliminated diabetes. Her mission is to empower compulsive overeaters with recovery tools so they can manage their addiction, get their self-esteem back and fall in love with who they are.

INTUITIVE EATING 101 with Margaret Bell

INTUITIVE EATING 101 with Margaret Bell

Episode #27

In this episode I have Margaret Bell as my guest talking all about the nuts and bolts of Intuitive Eating, which I'm aware some people may not be aware of this term, so Margaret explains all and gives us a brilliant whirlwind tour of gut health and how it relates at the same time!!
So much valuable information and clarity on leaving the diet culture behind to truly get healthy and shift excess weight at the same time with kindness and patience.

Margaret shares:

  • Some of her personal experiences struggling with weight
  • How to get in tune with your body
  • Impacts of stress on our health and others influencers
  • What fast lane living can lead to

And she re-iterates that realisations about how foods make you feel for yourself lead to changes that are likely to be kept for life.

About Margaret Bell
From a supposed chubby teen to a 40 year old spiraling out of control, Margaret is an Intuitive Eating coach who can honestly say she has walked the walk with emotional eating and body hate for over 25 years.
'Thunder Thighs' was her school nickname and that's when emotional eating started for her, through the death of her father in my 20's to divorce and depression in my 40's whether its restriction or binge to not believing I deserved to eat, I have been there and now I coach women and teens who are on that path that I used to be, guiding them to a life of absolute food freedom and body love.'  Margaret will touch on the subject of emotional eating in such a way which will question why we think we need to diet, is this coming from internal or external forces, or even a bit of both. Should being slim n skinny really be our aim? Or is there really another way?

Female Power - Reaching New Heights in Your Career

Female Power - Reaching New Heights in Your Career

Episode #23

Dr Anne Whitehouse was a high flying scientist until she faced chronic fatigue syndrome, feeling like she didn't recognise who she was and how she felt in her workplace, which seemed designed for men to succeed, and less so for women.

On facing burnout and many months of severe illness, Anne began her search for answers - starting her journey of study into the subconscious mind.
Anne describes the subconscious mind as our operating system and it is old and has beliefs based on old conditioned beliefs bother personally and ancestrally passed to us, like women who speak out are persecuted, or like you’re not allowed to be yourself in your work environment with our true essence being squashed.

We discuss the male energy and traits many women feel they need to adapt to fit in and get ahead in their careers, disempowering their female traits and energy. Other women respond differently with them shutting down like Anne, which can depend on many factors which she discusses.

Anne shares:

  • What Female Power is & how to embrace it.
  • How subconscious beliefs drive us
  • Confrontational energy in the corporate world
  • Talks about frozen experiences
  • Women haven’t had the opportunity to use and
see the STRENGTH of their Female Power

About Dr Anne Whitehouse
Dr Anne Whitehouse is the #1 bestselling author ‘Pull Back Your Power’, a PhD scientist turned Female Power Alchemist, and a subconscious transformation expert.  After her own spectacular burnout in the boys’ club world of university engineering, she uncovered the hidden roots that sabotage high-achieving women and devised a game-changing solution.    She now teaches visionary women to level the energetic playing field, breakthrough success limits, income ceilings, visibility blocks, and fulfil their dreams in the world AND recreate their relationships with men, both at home and at work.

Michelle talks about the experience of pregnancy when expecting a child with special needs, and how much more support a woman needs. She talks from personal experience with her having a now 14-year-old daughter with Down syndrome, and what her pregnancy felt like for her, until she made the conscious effort to settle her mind, let the worry go and just really connect with her unborn child.

She wants to raise the awareness that expectant mums of a special needs child are going through an extra layer of stress and worry so that these women either seek support or look at how they are feeling instead of burying their feelings until later.

COMMUNITY IN HELPING MUMS THRIVE with Beth Q. Mount

COMMUNITY IN HELPING MUMS THRIVE with Beth Q. Mount

Episode #16

My guest this week was Beth Mount, she talks about the importance of having a community around women to help mums thrive, applicable for all ages and stages of parenting.
We are not designed as human beings to be alone and we need support, yet more and more women feel alone and often unsupported or heard. These are basic human needs that can be forgotten or not recognised as important in the ever-increasing priority placed on being productive over our well-being and seeking a friendship group.

Beth discusses how a community helps mums feel involved and can encourage activity or actions we may not take alone, without feeling pressured. Touching on how mothers can actually be fearful of asking for help or burdening others and she encourages mothers to work through a little discomfort of getting out to meet others and investing time to be part of a community, as it pays dividends in support once you have found a circle of like-minded individuals.

She shares:

  • We’re not meant to do this alone.
  • How a community helps us.
  • Changing perceptions on getting yourself support
  • Loneliness is harmful to our well-being and contributes to anxiety and stress.

You need and deserve support through all stages of change in motherhood, especially in looking after your health and family. Beth defines what a community can look like and how to lean into this support, seeing it as essential, not weakness to not being able to do it alone, part of self-love practices.

About Beth Mount
Beth is a mom of 2 in Southeast Michigan. Her boys, now 8 and 10 brought more challenges healing, and growth than she could have envisioned.  Beth works as a Massage Therapist and Restorative Exercise Specialist. Through her journey with pelvic pain, she came to love a holistic movement lifestyle. In studying movement she found how it intertwines with the community.  She's interested in the paradigm shift toward a deeper connection with ourselves and others. For her, the key to a healthier future starts with rebuilding trust in our bodies.

PERIMENOPAUSE - HEALTH TO HELP YOURSELF with Jeyanthi Nair

PERIMENOPAUSE - HEALTH TO HELP YOURSELF with Jeyanthi Nair

Episode #15
Jeyanthi Nair is my guest this week discussing perimenopause, what it is and when this transition of change in women can start.
Perimenopause is the pathway of change to menopause and it is a time when women can really take heed to be more serious about what they put in their body and how they've been thinking all these years.

Jeyanth explains the valuable signs and symptoms you can look out for and what natural things you can be doing to make life easier and better for your next 40 to 50 years ahead of you.

She shares:

· Blood sugar management influence

· How being mindful and changing your mindset is a game-changer

· How adding more veg can have a knock-on effect

· Importance of having a blood test and identifying symptoms

· Another opportunity in a women’s life to take health seriously.

This is a really important and powerful conversation for women approaching their 40s to mid-40s.
The changes women experience do not have to be seen as all doom and gloom.
And the culture of pill-popping being accepted once we come of a certain age is something we can choose to live free of.
Women can choose a different outcome for themselves.

About Jeyanthi Nair
Jeyanthi Nair is a nutritional therapist. She helps women balance their hormones through nutrition and health coaching and bring vitality and exuberance to their lives. She specialises in perimenopause as she is personally at that stage of life and supports many women through related issues.

BEATING BURNOUT & AVOIDING IT with Fay Victoria Durrant

BEATING BURNOUT & AVOIDING IT with Fay Victoria Durrant

Episode 14

Fay Victoria Durrant - the Wellness Wonder Woman is my guest in this epic podcast on Burnout. In his episode, Fay is very frank about what lead to her personal encounter of burnout and deeply shares what it was like and how she missed the many signs her body was telling her and the things she would say to herself avoiding the harsh reality.  Fay wants to raise awareness on this topic of health for mums of all ages whether a working professional or stay-at-home mum, and that it can happen to anyone with a chronic stressful life and so they know the signs to look out for.

She shares:

  • Symptoms of burnout to look out for
  • The range of things that can occur
  • Listen to what your body is telling you
  • The 4 pillars to steer clear or recover from Burnout

About Fay
Fays health and Wellness journey has been a rocky road. As a young mum with a very stressful work & personal life, she developed a passion for working out hard and running, to manage the stress, this ultimately led to exercise addiction, and a lack of true self-care and balance, in turn, lead to extreme burnout, and a long learning curve to recovery.

Tenacious enough to not give up on her dreams of sharing the joy and benefits of movement, but keen to share her story to help others beat burn out, she retrained in Yoga and Pilates and exercise for older adults. And slowly, very slowly went back to work teaching a different more balanced form of fitness and wellbeing.

She now enjoys sharing more gentle but very effective forms of working out and teaching her clients about the importance of a more balanced life including a lot of real self-care to improve their health and wellbeing.

FIND YOURSELF & HEALTH IN OVERCOMING ADVERSITY & FAMILY FALLOUTS with Hema Nanuwa

FIND YOURSELF & HEALTH IN OVERCOMING ADVERSITY & FAMILY FALLOUTS with Hema Nanuwa

Episode #13

Hema Nanuwa is another Rockstar mum guest on the podcast. I picked Hema for her resilience through the adversity she has been through and the importance she placed on her health through her work on herself to coming out the other side stronger and empowered. She changed her food she put in her body and how it made her feel to exercising regularly, she challenged her ways of thinking and healed herself, her childhood and made peace with the broken relationships that were causing her pain. The journey of doing the two together helped her create the confidence she feels she never had previously.

Her newfound perspectives and minset shifts, allowed her to remain positive through the miscarriage she had, with the deep knowing if another family member was meant to happen it would happen. Hema has since had a the second baby she was hoping for.

Hema Shares:

  • How important her health was to her in overcoming the issues brought by a toxic family situation
  • The practices she used and still uses to keep high spirited and healthy through challenging times
  • How she reframes everything to see what could be negative to empower her
  • How adversity has helped her realise she can give others hope and help to overcome similar life problems.

About My Guest:
Hema Nanuwa was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya and has now settled in Leicester UK, with her lovely, blended family. She is a mother of three incredible children, a 16year old stepson, a 4 year old daughter and a 6 month old son. Currently, she is enjoying motherhood but in her spare time focuses on her business as a transformational coach focusing on women. She empowers women to transform their lives by developing their capabilities and setting purposeful goals.

RETURN TO EXERCISE POST BIRTH OR MAJOR OP

RETURN TO EXERCISE POST BIRTH OR MAJOR OP

Episode 12
As part of the early motherhood health series, this episode I talk about returning to exercise classes and sport after having a baby or a majot operation. Reminding listeners that your health and personal care is essential to focus on and is an important habit to create with the right focuses for your body's needs at this time. It is short and to the point listen.

I share:

  • Things you need to do to return safely to exercise
  • What things you need to consider in the progression of exercise
  • How to build up your fitness
  • Why it is so important to pay attention to the small stuff

Early motherhood is a busy, tiring time for many mums, with some mums experiencing overwhelm with the many things to do for a baby, other children if they have them, and looking after themselves as well as thinking about work or returning to work. I reassure mums it is possible with encouragement and small bouts of time.

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT C-SECTION SCAR HEALING with Lola Akinola

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT C-SECTION SCAR HEALING with Lola Akinola

Episode #11
Lola Akinola is my special guest this week, who is a pregnancy and postpartum exercise and education specialist.
She has had 2 c-sections herself and realised just how little recovery advice and approach to exercise was out there, leading her to specialise in this area to empower women to look after their body pre and post-birth. Calling all women who have had a c-section, recent or some time ago to know that it is never too late to rehab.

She talks openly about her personal shock of having an emergency c-section what she had to do to change it all around for her.
And she shares :

  • Valuable areas to focus on for c-section recovery.
  • What to start with to adjust to the scar
  • Reiterating the importance of acceptance of your body
  • How spot-training the tummy area will not help recovery
  • What a diastasis recti is
  • Importance of balanced breathing

About Lola Akinola
Lola is a mum of two, a primary school teacher but a women’s fitness trainer: specialising in exercise and education for pregnancy and beyond.

Lola’s fitness journey, however, began 6 months after having her first child by emergency c-section. She decided that she wanted to get into shape and lose her ‘mummy tummy’. At the time, she didn’t realise she had a large degree of separation in her abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) and. began using at home DVDs which consisted of sit-ups and crunches. A few weeks into them, Lola noticed a doming shape around her mid-section and after some research, discovered that the exercises she had been doing were too advanced at that time.

BUILD SPIRITUAL INNER STRENGTH MUMS & GIVE TO YOURSELF with Kishori Jani

BUILD SPIRITUAL INNER STRENGTH MUMS & GIVE TO YOURSELF with Kishori Jani

In this episode Kishori shares her deep understanding of spiritual life from an eastern monastic life, bringing and applying it in a modern world, sharing important perspectives mothers can take to help them through these current times, to establish inner resilience and health from the inside out.

She wants mothers to understand and believe they are divine, that their role has a place and to understand that society has created a narrative that under appreciates what a mother does. Talking about how so many mothers have expressed their feeling of discomfort because of the 'I'm a mother and ...' expectation placed on them by the culture we live in.

Kishori also expands on giving to others as a mother and human being starts with feeding your own inner strength, through mindful practice, mantras and meditation or whichever way you choose. It's about finding practices that tap into you accessing the higher source or the divine, knowing this and practicing life this way is freeing. She explains eloquently being of service from a place of giving with no expectation, knowing you are doing good, making a difference to this planet by raising kind children, with the recieving being Karmic and what this all means in the bigger picture.

About Kishori Jani
Kishori Jani is a mother of four, Sanskrit teacher and eastern (Vedic) wisdom coach. She was born and raised in India, in a temple setting to an American mother and Gujarati Father who were both Hindu priests. She gained a deep understanding of the Vedic scriptures and was trained in monastic life. She later obtained her degree in Biochemistry from UCLA in Los Angeles, USA and also worked there in academia for many years. This unique blend of spiritual upbringing and professional skill has enabled her to share timeless Vedic wisdom in a more applicable and relevant way.

Recently a Kirtan (spiritual mantra music) she did with her family went viral with over 30 Million views. As a result the family have gained a large social media following and share regular Kirtans and Bhagavad-Gita Wisdom

HOW I GOT MORE ENERGY AFTER HAVING CHILDREN with Bella Tomlinson

HOW I GOT MORE ENERGY AFTER HAVING CHILDREN with Bella Tomlinson

Welcoming Bella Tomlinson as the first guest on Any Mum Can podcast.
Bella shares her journey of taking her health more seriously after her children were born and how the people around her were a huge influence in her becoming a runner whilst having fun and making time for herself.
She talks about how she felt more energised after having her children and they were her motivation to become fitter and think about her health, as well as to feel good and be a mother she wanted to be.

Lots of of nuggets of information on things you can do to get started on your journey and an inspiring story that it's not about being skinny, but rather having a healthy lifestyle and mindset to go with it to feel good about yourself and for your family.

I hope this conversation shows you that it's possible to make changes, no matter where you are in your life, whether you're surrounded by others doing it or you find your own way as I did without that aid. Take inspiration from Bella, who doesn't diet, living a fairly balanced life of physical activity and eating healthily most of the time.
