Welcome back the Long Story Short podcast with Vicky Cornick.
Vicky is back for a solo episode all about gym anxiety.
There are so many common fears associated with the gym:
- the fear of 'looking stupid' if you don't know how a machine works,
- the fear of getting 'too bulky' if you are a woman that lifts weights
- the fear of not knowing what to do
- the fear of being too overweight to go to the gym
These are all so common, but Vicky is here with her tips and tricks on how to get over these fears, so that they don't stand in the way of you achieving your health goals.
We were ALL beginners at one stage, even the fitness coaches! We all started somewhere, just remember that.

4. Neuroscience, Mindfulness and Dealing with Trauma with Justin Caffrey
On todays episode of Long Story Short, Vicky sits down with Justin Caffrey.
Justin is a certified Health & Wellness coach and is one of Europe's leading minds in resilience, leadership, business strategy, radical transparency, psychological safety and practical neuroscience. He holds a Master's in Psychological Interventions using Neuroscience and Mindfulness and is one of the few Westerners to have endured a week-long training with monks in the remote mountains of Northern Japan.
On today’s podcast, Justin shares with us his advice on leaning in to facing life’s challenges as well as how his highly driven personality & successful career was a way for him to avoid grieving the loss of his son Joshua for many years.
This eventually led to him having a panic attack during a business meeting. This was the moment Justin decided to take action by asking for help with his mental health.
So despite this being a very tragic topic, Justin describes his son’s death as somewhat of a blessing as this made him realize the importance of slowing down and living in the present moment.
Justin’s story is really inspiring and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did chatting.

Hello and a very big welcome to the Long Story Short Podcast. I’m your host, Vicky Cornick. I’m a gym owner & personal trainer and I have the joy of educating and empowering women from all different walks of life on becoming healthier, happier and more confident versions of themselves.
One of the main reasons I decided to start this podcast was because I wanted to launch something that was really informative but also full of fun & interesting chit chat.
I’m a big talker myself (if you haven’t already realized) but I also love to learn & listen from people that are incredibly smart and have some really interesting stories. Which is why over the next few weeks I’ve got some brilliant conversations coming your way from leading experts in the fitness industry.
I will also be sharing some of my own and very personal experiences, especially when it comes to my health and fitness journey. Many of you may know my background, however, many of you may not but I guess you could say it is pretty interesting.
My aim with this podcast is for you to gain as much knowledge as possible about how to create a healthy lifestyle that is both enjoyable & sustainable. And yes, that is very possible!
