One Foot in the Podcast - One Foot in the Grave
By Tom Griff
One Foot in the Podcast - One Foot in the GraveSep 20, 2020
Director/Producer: Susie Belbin
One of the best conversations I've had on the podcast.
Susie Belbin was a producer/director for a whole host of shows, including:
One Foot in the Grave (S1-S5)
Jonathan Creek
Are you being Served?
Bread
Hi-de-Hi!
'Allo! 'Allo!
It Ain't Half Hot Mum
Only Fools and Horses (S4)
She also worked with Morecambe and Wise.
Her CV is impressive and her experience, knowledge and pioneering ways of directing was all to see.
A huge thank you to Susie for speaking to me and treating you fans of British comedy.
The Manchester collective
Hallo!
All 3 of my guests are from the Manchester area. We met up a few weeks ago for lunch and a One Foot chinwag. Consider this pod a debrief of that.
It's a longy - so, plan that long distance travel or dog walk well.
Richard Webber - The Pod legend!
Remember all those times I and other listeners would reference "the Webber book" which became my trusted bible? Well, a great coup was had by the pod with having the man himself on for a chinwag about his marvellous book 'The Complete One Foot in the Grave'.
The Easter Special
Only Fools convention with Sir David Jason - my thoughts (tiny bit of One Foot speak)
I speak my thoughts on the drive home.
The Wisdom of the absolute b**ch - A Christmas revist
One Foot in the Podcast outro music creator, Anthony Satterthwaite chinwags with me about 'Wisdom of the Witch' - which the alternative title given would suggest we get quite iritated with the person responsible for Victor nearly being killed. I mean, he is eventually killed but had Renwick had other ideas, we'd have been starved of 2 more specials and a final series.
Merry Christmas.
Tom Griff
**Jonathan Kydd** - A.K.A Chippy Joe / Market Stall Geezer
He was supposed to turn up on the pod for the usual Sunday slot, but alas, he arrived Wednesday!
So, in the spirit of Chippy Joe, this pod is being released on a Wednesday.
Jonathan Kydd was so easy to natter with and a man of many talents.
Thank you for downloading.
An unplanned ramble (part 2 of 2)
Part 2 of the unplanned ramble.
A cheeky couple of games mid way through for you to play along.
An unplanned ramble (part 1 of 2)
Hello and welcome.
Pod regulars, Si and Dazza join me to quite simply, keep me company. It's just us talking. Mainly about comedy.
I hope it inspires....someone? It won't, but we had great fun.
Doreen Mantle - A eulogy and farewell
Doreen Mantle, aged 97, has sadly passed away as announced today by her agent.
Si, Darren and I pay tribute to one of the comedy greats in TV sitcom history.
We loved Mrs. Warboys, but she will live on in the One Foot in the Grave universe forever more.
A live pod opposite Victor's house
Fun & Games with Christchurch resident Jen!
We have a general One Foot natter, chucked in a quiz, a quick-fire round and a Desert Island Discs special.
A Creek David Renwick Special - Part 2
A Creek David Renwick Special - Part 1 (**100th episode spectacular!**)
Jonathan Creek remains one of the, if not the greatest mystery drama comedy out there, in my opinion. It stands the test of time. Si and I throw several questions David's way (poor man) and the three of us had fun discussing this other masterpiece of David's.
P.S Happy Birthday to Si!
One Creek in the Foot - The Scented Room
Back with a sequel to the "one-off" Creek discussion from the other week.
One of our favourite Creek episodes just had to be aired in review form.
One Foot in the Grave and Counting - A review (Part 2)
Welcome back to part 2 (of 2), closing the final couple of chapters of David Renwick's 'One Foot in the Grave and Counting'.
Social experiment - if you are one of the probable few who reads the gubbins in this podcast upload, get in touch and let me know that you read this!
And then introduce yourself!
One Foot in the Grave and Counting - A review (Part 1)
material to review, albeit there being some very familiar storylines, there was plenty to sink my teeth into given the subtleties in differences between
the TV series and this book. Plus, some organic One Foot material!
You know the drill - get in touch with me to talk One Foot. Do it. Now!
Still not done it?
One Foot in the Creek - A natter with an old mate
Welcome!
This could be the dawn of a new era in One Foot in the Podcast land - in the respect that perhaps I'll be doing more of a diverse route into discussing some of Britain's finest TV shows? Or perhaps not. I've always wanted to go down the Jonathan Creek rabbit hole and particularly withmy old school mate, Si Marsh. He is very much the Creek to my Meldrew. He is a Creek fanatic and it was great fun topic jumping in the world of Creek, written by the genius David Renwick.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E6: Timeless Time with Ben Shaw
Ben Shaw was the first ever guest on the podcast and here he is, helping to close the rewatch series. The last of the episodes I had previously only ever reviewed alone.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E5: Love and Death with Sarah Gardom
A lovely little getaway at April and Vince's boarding house in Bournemouth, two pretty young ladies somewhat gazing over Victor and some monumental misunderstandings of the highest proportion, whip up a bit of a storm for the Meldrews on this not so relaxing holiday.
Sarah joins me this week as she helps to dissect this episode and explore the psyche of the main characters.

Who Will Buy? Quiz & One Foot on the Desert Island with Tim & Rach
Here's a bonus extra from Rach and her pops, Tim, where they head-off for a quick quiz and take it in turns to reveal their ultimate One Foot themed experience if stranded on a desert island.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E4: Who Will Buy? with Rach and Tim
Rach (formally Miss. Penycate, now Mrs. Rowatt) and her dad, Tim, join me to discuss 'Who Will Buy'. This is a podcast first having two guests on at the same time to discuss a regular episode. It's also a first having a guest and their relative join the show!
Watch out for a proceeding episode of fun and games that follows.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E3: Dramatic Fever with Richard Latto
Hello!
This week, it's a bit of an alternative take on all things reviews. Richard and I do discuss Dramatic Fever, but it's not picked through like a fine-tooth comb like usual. This is a more informal and relaxed approach and often us going off topic!
You'll find Richard over at BBC Radio Sounds and on his ever-popular Stereo Underground slot.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E2: We Have Put Her Living In The Tomb with Graham Courage
Thank you for downloading - Graham joins me with the dissecting of this great second episode involving some animal tragedy, TCP and a decorative nightmare for the Meldrews.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S2E1: In Luton Airport No-One Can Hear You Scream with Dan Clay
Dan was fantastic and he even introduces a brand new feature to the pod - with the help of his daughter, Dotty!
**Cath 'Mrs Burridge' Shipton**
Merry Christmas!
Here's a little special treat for One Foot in the Grave viewers on the eve of Christmas 2022.
The lovely Cathy Shipton, veteran of Casualty, but to us, will always be 'Mrs. Burridge', delighted in joining me for a podcast Christmas special to cover her experience in 'Who's Listening'.
Wow! Another One Foot in the Grave cast member to add to the list and how amazing it was to talk to her about such a Christmassy special of the series.
Please visit https://www.crisis.org.uk which Cath supports year in, year out. See what you might be able to do to help!
[Part 2] A Christmassy review of 'Who's Listening' with Ant Satterthwaite
We return for part 2 of this Christmassy review of a wonderful and special episode of David Renwick's.
A Christmassy review of 'Who's Listening' [Part 1] with Ant Satterthwaite
Review a Christmas special I've already done two years ago? Why not?
It's Christmas! (If you are downloading this at the appropriate time of year)
My good friend, Ant, considers this his most favourite episode of them all and I had a lot of fun nerdgasming over this festive special.
Ant is responsible for the One Foot in the Podcast rendition of Eric Idle's 'One Foot in the Grave' as played on the organ.
Doreen Mantle LIVE At The Regent!
This is Doreen Mantle talking to presenter Pat Sissons before the screening of One Foot in the Algarve HD.
Need I say more, have fun listening!
O.F.I.T.Algarve HD pre-event with BBC Solent and the audience (Children in Need 2022)
Here all of the shenanigans that occurred with presenters Richard Latto and Alex Dyke ahead of the One Foot in the Algarve HD screening.
This includes a little stint on stage with me, a quiz and a bit of gentle banter with the audience.
Cheers!
One Foot Pod & BBC Radio Solent: Talking One Foot in the Grave!
I was invited on to Katie Martin's morning show the morning after the night before, of the great One Foot in the Algarve event at The Regent in Christchurch.

One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E6: The Return of the Speckled Band with Matt Raubenheimer

Please leave a review - for Victor's sake!
One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E5: The Eternal Quadrangle with Simon Smith
Friend and host of 'Don't Forget Your Goodbye Gherkins' helps to breakdown the penultimate episode of series 1.
Rendition of the outro was performed by Organist and Pianist, Anthony Satterthwaite
David Renwick Q&A [Part 2]
God love him!
David Renwick Q&A [Part 1]
One Foot in the Grave's God returns to answer fan questions about his sterling work in One Foot and a little bit on Jonathan Creek.
Thank you to David Renwick for once again, being so willing to chat with me so freely and for you listeners for downloading.
One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E4: I'll Retire to Bedlam with Darren Lloyd
Bee issues, vision issues and childmidning issues.
With me this week, is friend of the podcast Dazzamagoo for this nerdfest.
Also, a couple of games at the end!
One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E3: The Valley of Fear with Dan Heath
This one is probably my favourite episode of series 1, and it gave me great pleasure discussing this with friend of the podcast, Dan Heath. Dan is a comedy connoisseur and is a delight to talk with. Whilst recording this, I could smell something unusual by the sideboard.
Thank you, Dan!
Remember - if you head over to your podcasting platform to review the show, it only goes to help the good cause of ensuring One Foot in the Grave is always in those comedy algorithms - so please review if you haven't!
One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E2: The Big Sleep with Simon Smith
I continue on with my good friend and fellow podcaster, Simon - Host of 'Don't Forget Your Goodbye Gherkins' (Men Behaving Badly Pod).
We discuss episode 2 in this rewatch (with fans) series reviewing 'The Big Sleep'.
Please enjoy and make sure you visit Si's Twitter account and interact! https://twitter.com/mbbpod
Take care.
**Owen Brenman**
The wait to get this gentleman on was worth it. Since the very early days of the podcast, Owen had been a podcast guest target. I wore him down!
This was such a special interview and for me, absolutely fascinating. Owen gives such an in-depth insight into his time on set and recalling some of those memorable scenes.
Please visit Owen's website at www.owenbrenman.com for some exclusive archive footage as well as his Twitter @owenbrenman
**Graham Linehan**
How could I not release this on July 19th? Father Ted fans will know the link + today is my birthday - so many reasons to listen!
Thanks and enjoy!
One Foot in the Podcast on BBC Radio 2
Well, waddya know? I went live on Radio 2 very early on Thursday July 14th - on the OJ Borg show where Phil Williams was standing-in.
I was asked by producer Sophie to take part in 'Midnight Mastermind'. They had never had 'One Foot in the Grave' as a specialist subject before, so discovered my podcast and invited me on. Charmed!
As the episode is available for only so long on the BBC Sounds website, I thought I would upload it as a podcast for you all.
Thanks!
One Foot in the Directing **Chris Gernon**
This lovely lady needs no introduction.
With a vast array of television credits under her belt, Chris gives an insight into the life of a TV Director and sheds her love and fondness for her time and involvement in the creation of One Foot in the Grave.
What a wonderful guest!
One Foot in the Fun & Games - Miss Penycate v One Foot in the Podcast
Rachael returns to be tested in her One Foot knowledge. Also, a bit of scenario based fun!
One Foot in the Rewatch - S1E1: Alive & Buried with Miss Rachael Penycate
The dawn of another rewatch for all those episodes I first released alone in early 2020.
I am joined by Rachael - with a very Renwicky surname in my opinion.
The lovely Rachael breaks down this series opener with me.
One Foot in the Fan Discussion - With Nisha
This week, the lovely Nisha joins me for fun and games.
Some quick-fire questions are thrown around, mixed in with a quiz for us both + a bit of Desert Island Discs One Foot style, for good measure.
I hope you have fun listening!
**James Dreyfus**
Always a pleasure to welcome a comedy legend of the 1990s and beyond - I hope you enjoy one of One Foot in the Grave's biggest fan's discussion points with me.
James Dreyfus delves deep into the psychology of this wonderful sitcom and its characters. It really was a privilage and much fun to speak with James on one of my favourite topics.
Please, if you haven't done so already, can you write me a review? By doing so, you'll help spread the good work of One Foot in the Grave far and beyond (and helps me to attract some new listeners).
Thanks!
👑 One Foot in the Jubilee 👑
The title of this podcast is merely relating to the timing of the release - nothing else!
Simon and I have a general One Foot waffle - I hope you enjoy.
