Early on in my professional coaching career, I received a phone call that I was not expecting nor was I trained to deal with. But I had my client on the other end who needed my help so I had to do something quick. One of the biggest problems that we have in this world is the demonization of each other. We generalize each other and label each other simply based on surface behavior. But the interesting thing is, and the questions that nobody asks, what is really going on inside the heads of people who are expressing undesirable behavior? Things like arrogance, cruelty, and just being plain mean. What we fail to realize is these are all traits of weakness although they may come off as an expression of strength. But we never really think about that they're coming from a place of pain, a place of weakness in character. And so part of the way that we can help other people when they're expressing those kinds of behavior is to show compassion.
