Accept that you are imperfect with Jade Grantham
In this episode, Victoria interviews Jade Grantham, author of the memoir "Accept That You're Imperfect", about her 20-year battle with bulimia that started when she was just 12 years old. Jade shares her personal story of struggling with restrictive eating and purging behaviours, the shame and secrecy around her eating disorder, and her journey to recovery.

Key Discussion Points:
- Jade's eating disorder began as a way to cope with emotions and avoid discomfort during her difficult pre-teen years (00:09:07). She internalized emotions and made food her control mechanism rather than asking for help.
- Shame and stigma prevented Jade from vocalizing her struggles for many years. She highlights the importance of open conversations around disordered eating and mental health (00:07:15).
- Jade reflects on the role parents can play in emotional education for children. Modeling vulnerability and asking deeper questions can encourage kids to share rather than internalize problems (00:25:11).
- Jade's turning point came when she took ownership of her eating disorder, admitting she needed help and actively wanting to recover (00:30:33).
- Her recovery involved relearning how to feel and regulate emotions, a difficult process of breakdown before breakthrough (00:36:58).
- Now recovered, Jade manages residual behaviors through self-awareness, balanced eating, and movement for mental health (00:43:26).
Key Quotes:
"The more that you understand or the more that you break down those individual emotions, the more you're able to cope with them." (00:25:55)
"All I had to do was say it out loud." (00:51:14)
Guest Bio:
Jade Grantham is a commercial property professional and author of the memoir "Accept That You're Imperfect", which details her decades-long struggle with bulimia that began in her childhood.

Key Quotes: "You cannot get that unless you go through the fear. You can't. It's impossible." (00:31:16) "Always just sit in the suck, always come out the other side." (00:56:02) "When you overcome that, everything becomes you can then eat unrestrictedly because you're no longer afraid of weight gain if it happens or if it doesn't happen." (00:35:40)

And just nonchalantly, not not with a lot of emotion." (00:17:46) "I would say that reaching out and letting them know that you are concerned is really, really important...the sooner, the better to actually let someone know that you're concerned, and potentially bring in some help." How to stop comparing your current body to your smaller, leaner past body
In this episode of the podcast, I discuss how to stop comparing your current body to your smaller, thinner past body. I share strategies for having self-compassion, letting go of the past version of yourself, and embracing who you are now. Main Discussion Points: - Why we naturally compare ourselves to others (evolution, survival) - The negative impacts of comparing ourselves to past versions - Practicing self-compassion when feeling triggered by old photos - Making space for difficult emotions and talking openly about them - Remembering what extremes you went to have that thinner body - Realizing you have outgrown and upgraded from that version of you - Tips for embracing your body now through gratitude and positivity - Seeking professional support if needed Key Quotes: "Comparison is the thief of joy when we are constantly and consistently measuring ourselves against others." (00:02:47) "I literally used to feel jealous of my past self. I would be looking at photos of her, her being my past self, the lean fitness model past self mostly. And I wanted more than anything to just be her again." (00:04:39) "Do not go there again. Remind yourself what you had to do to be in that body." (00:22:03) "You, my queen, have outgrown that version of you. The most beautiful thing is you've upgraded yourself." (00:23:54)

From binge eating & suicidal to food freedom & self-love with previous client Beth
In this episode, I interview former client Beth about her journey recovering from an eating disorder. Beth shares openly about what it was like in the depths of her eating disorder, the fears she had around recovery, and what ultimately helped her to heal. You can expect to learn about approval, struggles, restriction vs freedom around food, weight gain fears, and the inner work that supported Beth's recovery. Beth - Solicitor and former eating disorder coaching client. Beth struggled with anorexic tendencies, body dysmorphia, a compulsive need to restrict, exercise excessively, binge eat due to extreme hunger from restricting, and had suicidal thoughts. With my intuitive guidance and support, she learned to heal her relationship with food and her body. Key Quotes: "I was so consumed, obsessed with food...Possessed by it." (00:10:00) "I mean, I would have honestly, at times rather have died than being in a bigger body because of what that meant." (00:35:10) "Whatever you resist in your life will persist in your life." (00:49:21) "For me, it'd just be, just let it go. That desire to be always on the rules and in that pattern, just let it go and trust the process because there is another life out there." (01:01:51) Main Discussion Points: - Beth's behaviors when her eating disorder was at its worst (00:11:07) - Dealing with "not sick enough" to get eating disorder treatment (00:08:28) - The role fitness obsession played in escalating her disorder (00:22:58) - Learning to allow all foods and trust her body's wisdom (00:31:42) - Overcoming fears about weight gain in recovery (00:51:38) - The inner work, mirror work, and journaling that facilitated healing (00:54:11)

Binge eating was the gateway to self-love with Elizabeth Hall
In this episode, intuitive wellness coach Elizabeth Hall joins host Victoria Kleinsman to discuss Elizabeth's journey with intuitive eating. After struggling with dieting and disordered eating for over 30 years, Elizabeth initially tried intuitive eating but found it didn't work for her. She shares why intuitive eating can fail when there's no self-awareness, and explains how she eventually learned to truly listen to her body's needs. Elizabeth provides wisdom on getting to know yourself, nervous system regulation, choosing who you want to be, and more.
Guest Bio:
Elizabeth Hall is an ICF certified mind body eating and intuitive wellness coach. She helps women recover from years of chronic dieting and emotional eating by understanding what drives their behaviors and helps them reconnect with their inner wisdom. Her work allows people to redefine health and wellbeing from a place of compassion and nonjudgement.
Key Discussion Points:
- Why intuitive eating didn't initially work for Elizabeth and how she practiced it without self-awareness (9:28)
- Elizabeth's journey to understand her emotional relationship with food and underlying reasons for dieting (10:01)

- The importance of pausing, reflecting, self-compassion and other self-awareness tools (23:38)
- Choosing who you want to be instead of focusing only on changing behaviors (46:22)
- Nervous system regulation techniques for calming the body (50:40)
- Elizabeth's upcoming free virtual summit on food freedom and body peace (54:50)
Key Quotes:
"I had done that from a very young age, but I kind of forgot about that when I jumped into intuitive eating and went straight to sort of, it was still an important piece. I had to let go of diet culture." (11:11)
"If I choose to perceive myself as worthy, as good enough, as lovable, then I will see myself that way. And then that's when I really kind of went from understanding what you create your own reality means to truly knowing and embodying, oh, my God, we literally create our own reality, and this is how." Let’s talk about shame
If you’re a perfectionist or identify as someone who feels they must get everything right, then this episode is definitely for you…
In dysfunctional families, a thread of shame often runs through the family, operating out of our awareness. We have a core of shame, and we do everything in our power to avoid experiencing it. Instead, we try to be ‘good’ and perfect, convincing ourselves that everything is ‘great’ because the experience of feeling shame is so painful. Shame keeps us silent, sick, and separate.
Main Discussion Points: - What is shame? It's the fear of not being worthy of love, connection and belonging. It hijacks our brains into fight-or-flight mode (12:03) - 12 main categories where people often feel shame (06:38) - Shame arises relationally in childhood when our mirroring needs aren't met (11:30, 12:04) - Rupture and repair: the importance of parents apologizing to avoid children developing chronic shame (16:38) - Common shame triggers and responses like silence, complacency, and aggression (19:18) - Shame prevents the development of self-worth (20:07) - Overcoming shame requires vulnerability, courage, compassion and connection (25:00) Key Quotes: "Shame and perfectionism are two sides of the same coin." (02:37) "Why are we all hustling so hard for our worthiness when all we have to do is claim it?" (22:24) "The greatest barrier to developing worthiness is shame." (22:39)

What to do if you’re physically recovered but not mentally recovered?
What to do if you’re physically recovered but not mentally recovered?
"I’d love to know how to navigate the feeling of being stuck. You spoke about it recently in a podcast. You said, “Your body will change but your mind won’t.” So essentially that looks like gaining weight yet not finding mental and emotional freedom. Every single time I feel full after eating, eat something other than lettuce and chicken, or see my body in the mirror I’m thrown back into the emotional mental turmoil. Yes my body is “weight restored” and then some as that usually goes, but my mind is not. I try to convince myself otherwise throughout the day but the negative voice is louder because it’s had more power for 20 years….
Just a hard spot to be in.
I was curious when knowing the difference between permission to eat and overeating. Also when the guilt from eating anything other than lettuce should subside? The line between eating and eating too much is hair-thin. Plus not knowing if I’m making an excuse to allow myself to eat is healthy or unhealthy. Like do I need to allow to eat more than comfortable even though my body has overshot the set point…. When do I stop allowing that?
Why do I ALWAYS cycle from anorexia, wanting to get better, bulimia, bingeing trying not to purge, gaining weight, and then start sliding back into restriction and back into the cycle…?"
I'm going to speak to each part separately to give as much detail and value as possible...

Should you start eating healthy after eating disorder recovery?
Should you start to eat healthy foods after eating disorder recovery? I feel that there is some pressure to start eating “healthy” after going all-in in eating disorder recovery. During eating disorder recovery we tend to gravitate toward high-fat, high-sugar processed foods but what if we still want these foods after recovery? IT'S OK! Watch for my take on this question. ♥️

Is food addiction real?
What another ballsy topic for me to talk about! #bringiton 💃🏼
This episode was inspired by Milja's question;
"Could you speak to Food Addiction - Is there really such a thing? aka - what is treated by Over Eaters Anonymous and the 12 steps - removing sugar and flour from the diet. We know people can be addicted to all sorts of things - sex, shopping, reading, exercise - all things that for others is good for them or healthy - what to do when you have a food addiction - that may or may not look like Binge Eating Disorder?"

Why do we develop eating disorders?
What a ballsy question for me to do my best answering...
There are, of course, many layers as to why one might develop an eating disorder, as everyone is unique and has experienced different life experiences. I have, however, seen many similarities in my clients (including myself) as we’ve peeled back the layers and discovered the root cause.
The question isn’t;
“Why the addiction?”
IT IS;
“Why the pain?”
In this context, I'm speaking about the addiction to restriction or the addiction to needing to be perfect etc.
Let's dive in...

Trauma to Triumph with Joelle
Joelle Maletis is a world-renowned international speaker, psychotherapist, trauma expert, and author of a TED-Ed PTSD video with over 3.2 million views and available in 28 different languages.
She has been a featured guest globally, including the UK’s Top 20 most popular Eating Disorder podcasts; and in the top 2% of Coaching podcasts.
Her passion is mentoring, coaching, and supporting people while overcoming struggles that are keeping them from living a meaningful and balanced life full of fulfilment, joy, and contentment.
Joelle started JRM&A Inc. to help others discover their hopes, dreams and abilities to thrive through adversity, trauma and mental challenges; and, just recently launched her own line of self-help products available on Amazon.
Questions I asked Joelle:
What exactly is PTSD and is all trauma PTSD?
In your opinion, do you think that all or most ED’s are born from trauma?
Does trauma get stored in the body's tissues and if so how does one clear it?
How can trauma be passed down generationally?
What are some types of abuse that most may not recognise as abuse?
Is overthinking and anxiety linked to trauma?

Does feeling “urgh” in your body trigger bingeing?
How to recover from an ED when you work full-time?
Listener's question– How to recover from an ED when you work full-time?
“It would be awesome if you could give some tips (or maybe share your experience if you’ve had one) about trying to recover from restrictive- ED while working a full-time job. 🤔
Sometimes it is not possible to ‘always listen to your hunger cues’, ‘eat and rest’ or follow the extreme (mental) hunger… 😔 It makes me feel like I’ll never be able to fully recover …😔
But it is not possible for me to leave my job cause like everybody- I need to pay my bills, pay for my therapy session 🤗 and buy myself a lot of food, lol😂. Thank you for being here for us! xx
