The Deal with Ed Clark - October 29, 2022 Episode
American politics has never been clean. Since the founding of the Republic, people with different ideas have clashed, and sometimes violently. The 2022 midterm elections are as rancorous as any in our history. Even though the economy is pretty strong, we aren't off fighting a war on foreign soil; some of our fellow citizens are in a fighting mood. Join me and political scientist Val Atkinson, as we try to make sense of why the right is so angry. We look in-depth at the attack on Speaker Pelosi's husband, major senate races, Florida's phony crackdown on voter fraud, and the continuing fallout over the January 6th coup attempt. This week's episode of The Deal is all of that and much more.

Join me, along with political analyst and retired professor Val Atkinson, as we examine the roots of gun violence and what you can do about it. We also take a look at the most recent bombshell 1/6 Committee hearing and the subpoena that now hangs over former President Trump's head. The Deal with Ed Clark - June 25, 2022 Episode
Roe v. Wade is over and done. The US Supreme Court has had its say, so what should we expect from this ruling? What we do know is that some states have already outlawed abortions. So-called "trigger laws" were affected when the decision was published. What does this mean for women's reproductive health? Join me along with Val Atkinson and NCCU Constitutional Law Professor Irv Joyner as we try to make some sense of the ruling to end Roe. But that's not all. The court has also handed down several significant judgments that will impact gun laws, your Miranda Rights, and a case that might impact voter id in North Carolina. Plus, we dig into the latest revelations about Donald Trump's efforts at a coup to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Professor Joyner will be the keynote speaker at the Annual Reading of Frederick Douglass' Essay in Carrboro, NC, on July 4th, 2022. The Deal with Ed Clark - June 11, 2022 Episode
This week on The Deal, we do a deep dive into the 1/6 Committee's first public hearing on the year-long investigation into the attempted overthrow of the government. Whether you watched the first hearing or not, you should be aware of the evidence that has been presented so far and is still yet to come. Even Trump's daughter, Ivanka, didn't believe the election was fraudulent. We also analyze the response from Fox News, Kevin McCarthy, and those on the right wing who don't want you to watch any of the hearings. Based on what we've seen, Donald Trump has plenty to worry about, and it is only likely to worsen. We also take a look at the new inflation numbers. Gas continues to soar. The consumer price index is putting a strain and average households. We try to get to the bottom of the economy and much more. The Deal with Ed Clark - June 4, 2020 Episode
To say gun violence is out of control in America is an understatement. We kill more people than anyone else. Joe Biden has probably been to more mass killing sites than another American leader as President and Vice President. Are we ever going to do anything about it? This week we discuss the latest shooting and where we go from here.  As the November elections get closer, we will be looking at critical races across the country. This week we take an in-depth look at the Charles Booker vs. Rand Paul race in Kentucky. Booker may have produced the most hard-hitting political ad ever. With a noose around his neck, Booker criticizes Paul for not voting for anti-lynching legislation.  We also look at the latest job numbers, medical marijuana in North Carolina, fresh indictments in the 1/6 investigation, and an acquittal in the Durham Special Counsel case. Plus a story you should know but probably don't. Abraham Bolden, the first black Secret Service agent, to serve in the White House, was jailed for being a whistle blower. Mr. Bolden has finally been pardoned after 56 years, at age 87.

The right has decided that there is no political price to pay for their obsession with the Second Amendment. Uvalde becomes the next American city whose name will forever be synonymous with mass murder. Like Charleston, Buffalo, or Sandy Hook, are we just going to stand helpless and let the NRA tell us guns are not a problem? Join Val and me as we dig deeper into why these events happen only in America. Also joining us is Professor Andrea Freeman of the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii. Professor Freeman Constitutional Law, Federal Courts, Race and Law, Food Law and Policy, and Comparative Social Justice and Constitutional Law. She is with us to talk about the history of baby formula and the current shortage. Of course, black people figure into the equation, and surprisingly the state of North Carolina does too. The Deal with Ed Clark - March 26, 2022 Episode
The Deal is back this week with Ed Clark and Val Atkinson. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson endured three days of attacks from the Republicans in her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Despite Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham's best efforts, Judge Jackson seems to be poised to take a seat on the Supreme Court. But there is other news as well. It seems to be clearer and clearer that 1/6 was not an isolated event. Now, Justice Clarence Thomas's wife Virginia has text messages to Mark Meadows, suggesting the 2020 election be overturned. Speaking of Mark Meadows, he and his wife, have a lot of explaining to do about their North Carolina voter registration. Britney Griener, Ukraine, and March Madness all get some attention too. That and much more on this week's edition of The Deal.
