Gemma takes us through the events of the first Palm Sunday,


Luke 19:28-41

28) After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29) As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30) ‘Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31) If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” say, “The Lord needs it.”’ 32) Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33) As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ 34) They replied, ‘The Lord needs it.’ 35) They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.


36) As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. 37) When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38) ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’


39) Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’ 40) ‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’


41) As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42) and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43) The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44) They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognise the time of God’s coming to you.’

The Coming King is the Good Shepherd || North Site || Paul Cruchley

Paul takes us through the events of the first Palm Sunday, and explains some of the historical and cultural aspects of the events surrounding the Lord's triumphant entry into Jerusalem. He reminds us that Jesus, the Victorious King, is also the Good Shepherd Who laid down His life for us.

John 10:11-18

11) ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12)  The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13)  The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.


14) I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me – 15)  just as the Father knows me and I know the Father – and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16)  I have other sheep that are not of this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17)  The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life – only to take it up again. 18)  No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. Vision 2024: Part 1 || James Rankine

Sunday 10th March, 2024 - Central Site AM Sunday 17th March, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 24th March, 2024 - Central Site PM Speaker - James Rankine James presents the vision for Cardiff Vineyard for the coming year. From the earliest birthing of Cardiff Vineyard, the overarching vision of the church can be expressed in two aims - Restoring the city; renewing the nation. James says that this is really about bringing the Lord's rule and reign - which is why we pray the Lord's Prayer, asking "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." James says that, for this next season, we should take for ourselves the message of Isaiah 54:2, which says that: o we should enlarge the place of our tent o stretch our tent curtains wide o Don't hold back o Lengthen our cords o Strengthen our stakes In the context of the vision of the church for the coming season, this means making room for growth, ensuring that the growth is sustainable, and building in strength so that the growth endures. James explains that, while there are many things that could speak into this picture, he chooses to speak about Small Groups as the vehicle for this growth and sustainability. He encourages us to join a Small Group, and support it by regular participation. He says that the state of Small Groups is an indication of the health of the church itself. It is where people are connecting and doing life together, and exemplifying the phrase we use of Small Groups - Committed to Community. James' challenge for us is from the words of Carol Wimber, who called on us to "Get in your place for all that the Lord is going to do." Isaiah 54:2 ‘Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. ------- Recorded at West Site - 17Mar2024

Chris and Steph review life at Vineyard Cardiff North site over 2023, through the lens of our core values: - A Grace-Filled Community - Kingdom Carriers - Shameless Worshippers - Courageously Compassionate - Outrageously Generous. After some inspiring stories of the Lord moving amongst us, we spent some time in quiet prayer and reflection. As a taster for next weeks message, when James will present the Cardiff Vineyard vision fro the year ahead, Chris and Steph outline three areas which they feel that the Lord is bringing to our attention as we move on into 2024: 1. Prayer - Personal - Corporate - Intercession 2. Multiplication As we grow as a church gathering, we are looking to increase: - the number of small groups; - participation in the teams that make North happen and run smoothly; - participation in the projects and teams based at our Central site which are an expression of our compassion for our communities; 3. Releasing of Gifting and Calling - "There's a move of the God coming, and we need to be ready!" We each have a unique place in the Lord's jigsaw puzzle - we want to find that place, and equip each other discover their gifting and calling so that we can all occupy our perfect position in God's family. Steph concluded the message by reading the scripture that has been spoken over us as a site since the beginning is Isaiah 43:18-19: 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Ephesians Part 6: Infinitely More than We Might Ask or Think || Rachel Kemp

Sunday 3rd March, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 10th March, 2024 - Central Site AM&PM Speaker - Rachel Kemp Rachel concludes this series of studies with a close look at chapter 3 of Ephesians. She reminds us that Ephesians is a book of two halves - chapters 1 to 3 are Paul telling us the Gospel – the good news of Jesus, while chapters 4 to 6, is all about how we should live in response to the Gospel, in light of our identity in God. The church is not a side project of God’s, while He is busy with the real business of running the universe. We are not God’s creative outlet at the end of a busy day. We are on the front line. We are in the secret planning meetings in the war against the enemy. It is us, his church, that shows the enemy that he has lost – because, as Paul repeats over and over again in this letter to the Ephesians, every person on Earth can now be in the family of God, by grace, through Christ Jesus. And our church reflects that. It is why Paul thinks it’s so important that the church is unified. Paul then prays for the Ephesian Christians, that they may be strengthened through the Holy Spirit so that Christ can dwell in their hearts, and so that they may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Rachel explains that the Holy Spirit in us makes us supernaturally strong. So, Rachel reminds us, before we get too bogged down in doing loads of stuff for God, in trying really hard to be good enough, it is so important that we understand who God is, what he has done for us, and who we are - what our identity and purpose is as a result. Chapter 3 v 1 - 13 1) For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles 2) Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, 3) that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4) In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5) which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. 6) This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. 7) I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. 8) Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, 9) and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10) His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11) according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12) In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 13) I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. 14) For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15) from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16) I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17) so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18) may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19) and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20) Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21) to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Ephesians - Part 5: Built Into a Holy Temple || Alice Meads

Sunday 25th February, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 3rd March, 2024 - Central Site AM&PM Speaker - Alice Meads Alice continues our series on the letter Paul sent to the Church at Ephesus, focusing on Ephesians 2:11-22. She explains that the Ephesian church was made up of a kaleidoscope of people from every part of the Roman Empire. It would have been home to both Jews - those belonging to the nation chosen by God to demonstrate His love - and Gentiles - those the Jews called 'uncircumcised'.


Paul explains that both these people groups were in need of repair and restitution, and Jesus' death on the cross brought about this miraculous work. He goes on to explain that God's purpose was to bring into being a new humanity, one body made up of people from all nations who have become reconciled by His sacrifice.


Alice focuses our attention on this, God's purpose, and asks us to consider what barriers we may put up which may stop people from being part of our fellowship, barriers which may stop people from coming to faith. As she says, we want to be a church where everyone feels welcome, and can use the gifts that God has given them, playing their part in the body of Christ.


Reading the last few verses of this chapter, Alice asks us to notice that we are being built together. Not to build walls that separate, but to be built together into a Holy Temple, a dwelling place for the Spirit. To become a place of encounter, where people can come and experience the presence of God for themselves. We are to embrace people; we are not to put up barriers to stop people from coming. Alice reminded us of the visit last year of Steve Nicholson, a Vineyard pastor from the States, who gave us a prophetic message that our church was to be know as the "freedom getting place" - the place where people come to encounter the freedom that comes from knowing Jesus. We do this, Paul says, by being built together into a Kingdom community of peace; a place of embrace, in order to become a place of encounter.

Ephesians 2:11-22

11) Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— 12) remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13) But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.


14) For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15) by setting aside in His flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16) and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility. 17) He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18) For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.


19) Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household, 20) built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. 21) In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22) And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.

What Does It Mean To Be Rescued? || James Rankine

Sunday 18th February, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 25th February, 2024 - Central Site AM&PM Speaker - James Rankine James continues our series looking at the book of Ephesians, moving on into chapter 2, and concentrating on verses 1 to 10. Here we read that we are-- spiritually speaking--dead, completely helpless, and in desperate need of rescue. James sets out his goal to communicate that we are saved from something, but also that we are saved to something--to uncover the forward-looking purpose for our salvation. James quotes John Stott's commentary on Ephesians, who says "Paul first plumbs the depths of pessimism about man, and then rises to the heights of optimism about God." Paul tells us that becoming a Christian is so much more than praying a prayer, or even being forgiven of your sins, or being made alive--it's more than that! It's that when God makes you alive in this mysterious way, He joins your spirit to Jesus Christ's Spirit. If you're a Christian, you are joined to Jesus so that all that is true of Jesus is true of you. Verse 10 says that we are God's workmanship--the original Greek uses the word poiēma, from which we get the word poem. How beautiful, James says, that you are God's poem. Put another way - you are God's artwork; His masterpiece. We have been restored from the ugly, defaced, corrupted artwork that we were before salvation, into the glorious masterpiece that God had always intended us to be. Not just to be His workmanship, but to fulfil a deeper purpose. As James reminds us--we are not saved simply to sit in grace, but we must recognise that God rescued us so that we should do the good works prepared in advance for us by Him.

Ephesians 2:1-10 1) As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2) in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3) All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4) But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5) made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6) And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7) in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9) not by works, so that no one can boast. 10) For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ------- Recorded at North Site - 18Feb2024

Sunday 11th February, 2024 - West Site Speaker - Mark Crosby Mark takes us through the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25:14-30. Before leaving to go on a journey, the master in the story entrusts a portion of his wealth to each of his servants - the size in accordance with each of their abilities. Mark explains that the skills and abilities that the Lord has granted us are not gifts, but are given to us in trust, They are for us to nurture and develop for Him, to serve Him, His Church and those He wants to bless in our communities, In order to avoid the mistake that the third servant made in burying the portion entrusted to him, Mark expands on the following five strategies to ensure that we care responsibly for what the Lord has entrusted to us: 1. Don't Fear Failure 2. Your Attitude is Key 3. Don't Give Up 4. Press On In Your Faith 5. Be Empowered by the Holy Spirit Matthew 25:14-30 14) ‘Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15) To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16) The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17) So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18) But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19) ‘After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20) The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.” 21) ‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” 22 ) ‘The man with two bags of gold also came. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with two bags of gold: see, I have gained two more.” 23) ‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” 24) ‘Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. “Master,” he said, “I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25) So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.” 26) ‘His master replied, “You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27) Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28) ‘“So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29) For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Sunday 4th February, 2024 - West & North Sites Speaker - Gary Smith Gary begins by introducing The Message Trust for whom he works. The Message Trust is a worldwide movement passionately sharing the love of Jesus Christ in words and actions with the hardest-to-reach young people and communities. After a short introductory video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OkMzoHDjwE), he describes some of the encounters which have transformed the lives of those with whom The Message Trust has worked. Reading from John 4:4-26, Gary recounts the story of the woman at the well in Samaria who has a life-changing rendezvous with Jesus - a story which is a pattern for the way that we are to bring life to the damaged, hurting and lost around us. He describes the way that Jesus cuts through to the heart of the issue for the woman, and leads her to the revelation about Himself, and the Living Water He gives with the power to transform. Ephesians - Part 3: Unity, Revelation & Power || Sam Taylor

Sunday 28th January, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 4th February 2024 - Central Site AM&PM Speaker - Sam Taylor The final verses of Ephesians chapter 1 are Paul's prayer for the church at Ephesus. Sam points out that Paul emphasises the value of the Ephesian Christians, and tells them that he prays for them continually. In this, he is a model for how we should think of our brothers and sisters in Christ - that we should value them, encourage them, and pray for them - even though they can sometimes be irritating, or worse! Paul continues his prayer, asking the Lord to open their eyes to see and understand all the blessings he has already spoken of in the previous verses of the chapter. Finally, Sam takes us through Paul's description of the mighty power of God, demonstrated when He raised Jesus from the dead, and reminds us that the same incomparably great power is available to us, through Jesus. As Paul says, God has put all things under the feet of Jesus - we are His body, so if all things are under His feet, then all things are also under us, His Church. Ephesians 1v15-23 15) For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16) I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17) I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. 18) I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, 19) and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20) He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, 21) far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22) And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, 23) which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way. ------- Recorded at North Site - 28Jan2024

Ephesians - Part 2: All Things New || James Rankine

Sunday 21st January, 2024 - West & North Sites Sunday 28th January, 2024 - Central Site AM&PM Speaker - James Rankine Continuing our series looking at the book of Ephesians, James unpicks Paul's words about who we are - our identity in Jesus - and our ultimate destination. In the face of the uncertainties of life that we all face, we can be certain of our eternal future. In particular, James highlights how rich we are because of our inheritance in Jesus - Paul uses the word 'lavish' to describe how outrageously generous the Lord is in pouring His blessings on us - and he reminds us that all these wonderful benefits are the product of God's abundant and amazing grace. Ephesians 1v7-14 7) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8) that He lavished on us.
