S2E4: How do you safeguard your time and energy to be the balanced change maker you wish to be?

S2E4: How do you safeguard your time and energy to be the balanced change maker you wish to be?

So what is ‘enough’? Our anonymous change-maker finds themselves working overtime. Always saying ‘yes’ to others. Being committed to the cause. Supporting everyone else and sometimes forgetting to support themselves. Which leaves them wondering, is putting 150% into their professional life helping them get where they want and need to be? Is it making them the change-maker they want to be both today and tomorrow? Where’s the balance? Which brings us back to the question… what is ‘enough’?

Here’s what you can expect from this conversation:

  • Insight: Anonymous Change-maker
  • A Mindful Minute inside The Mycelium Bridge
  • 1, 2, 3... what's on your mind? (Explore the Change-Maker’s Question)
  • Observing change-makers offer biggest insight sand the questions
  • Signing out with a little nature and music from inside The Mycelium Bridge

👋 HOWDY FROM YOUR HOSTS 👋

Hey there, Chance and MCK here welcoming you to the #VIRIVERSE ♾, the place where change-makers come to unlock a balanced soul and scale positive impact.

In this episode (on the moon of QSATA) our anonymous change-maker brings greater clarity to help them decide what to do next.

The tool we used in this episode, Bounce, is a tool created to help entrepreneurial change-makers like you make better decisions, faster, without second-guessing yourself, even if you’re a chronic over-thinker.

So, if you're keen to hear this change-maker's mind move from confusion to clarity, join us to explore the question together :)

📝 KEY NOTES/ KEY QUESTIONS ❓

  • What’s the balance between who I am and what I put out into the world? (My personal and professional "masks.")
  • How do I safeguard from being stretched too thin?
  • We all have limited time… how do we know when to keep working as change agents where we are now… before breaking through what our real meaning is?
  • How do you show up as your authentic self?
  • How we train others to help us reinforce behaviors we’d rather not have.
  • Our career path: being a cog in a machine vs. an agent of change.
  • What are the risks we’re OK taking?
  • What makes it so hard to be present?
  • Dedicating time to positively contribute to our wellbeing.
  • What is the relationship between ‘balance’ and ‘what is enough’?
  • What do you give yourself credit for?
  • Can more humanity and vulnerability be a superpower in our professional lives?
  • Can you integrate some of that dedicated time for yourself and your passions into your nine to five?
  • If you're always giving 150% professionally, what does it look like to give 150% personally?
  • "I think the most valuable and useful thing out of this conversation today is just being able to sort of be my authentic self and to speak freely and… being able to hear what I've said translated into these questions, which I can take away from this conversation and continuously work upon."

❓ Are you facing a challenge right now that's making you feel unclear, unsure, maybe even a little stuck?

✅ We'd like to gift you with 3 practical exercises to help bring you clarity and make a decision on what to do next. 📝

S2E3: How do I re-integrate my shadow?

S2E3: How do I re-integrate my shadow?

What is your relationship with success? In this conversation our anonymous change-maker explores the shadow side of success in their life. What is the relationship between material gain and ambition? What are the choices we make in the name of success that help us vs. harm us? What does it mean to align our values (or not) with who we are as entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs? Is it okay to want things? Which brings us back to the question… what is your relationship with success?

Join us to explore how you and our anonymous change-maker consider this question.

Here’s what you can expect from this conversation:

  • Insight: Anonymous Change-maker on what it means to be an example of ‘success’
  • Mindful Minutes with some Montana Nature (Flathead Lake, Montana, USA)
  • 1, 2, 3... so, what's on your mind? (Question: How do I re-integrate my shadow?)
  • Observing change-makers offer their biggest insight and the question they're most curious about

📝 KEY NOTES/ KEY QUESTIONS ❓

  • How does your mind as a compass help you navigate this magnetic field of your soul?
  • “It’s almost like pointing a mirror at a mirror.”
  • Understanding changing ambitions.
  • What kind of sacrifices are worth it?
  • When it comes to values, do we always need to be 100% aligned?
  • Being a good person isn’t always good enough. Even if our ego thinks it is.
  • How susceptible are you to people dangling carrots?
  • What material gains *do* matter to you?
  • How do you find ways to practice self-acceptance, especially during challenging or difficult times?
  • From your own ego experiences. What advice would you give to people that struggle with saying yes to all opportunities?
  • Is there a risk in your mind to focusing on the soul rather than on the personal professional?
  • “I think the most valuable thing from today's conversation, honestly, it's just been getting someone outside of myself to ask these questions… it's not too often you get to get out of your head with these particular subjects."

S2E2: How can I stay mobile enough to take action and do something about the dangerous situation we are in as a country?

S2E2: How can I stay mobile enough to take action and do something about the dangerous situation we are in as a country?

How do we respond when everything seems to be falling apart? In this conversation we’re reminded that when everything around us contributes to a sense of overwhelm (in both big ways and small ways)... To do anything global, we need to start local. And can we have conversations and find common ground with people we disagree with? Even if there are vast differences and disagreements on how we think the world should work? Given how much work there is to do, this brings us back to... how do we respond when everything seems to be falling apart?

Here’s what you can expect from this conversation:

  • Insight: Anonymous change-maker on ‘finding common ground’
  • Mindful Minute around the campfire
  • 1, 2, 3… so, what’s on your mind? (ACM Question: How can I stay mobile enough to take action and do something about the dangerous situation we are in as a country?)
  • Observing change-makers offer their biggest insight and the question they're most curious about
  • Signing out with a little nature and music from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah, USA

Hey there, The Designer 🐺 and The Present Squirrel 🐿  welcoming you to the #VIRIVERSE ♾, the place where change-makers come to unlock a balanced soul and scale positive impact.

The tool we use, Bounce, helps entrepreneurial change-makers like you make better decisions, faster, without second-guessing yourself, even if you’re a chronic over-thinker.

📝 KEY NOTES/ KEY QUESTIONS ❓

  • How do we make the big questions a little bit smaller?
  • Interconnectedness + Interdependence. Who do I know and how can I activate that group of people?
  • How do we at least find enough common ground work on these things, even with people we disagree with?
  • We all have a fixed amount of time in the day. Can actually make progress on more than one thing?
  • How do we get out of introversion and put some of this into action? Opposed to having conversations about it...
  • How does one person (or humanity) bend rather than break in the face of the changes and meta-crisis we’re experiencing?
  • Society is trending more nomadic. How does that influence our future?
  • Are there any groups, people, or organizations that are currently solving the problems you’re describing?

Are you facing a challenge making you feel unclear, unsure, maybe even a little stuck?

S2E1: What is holding me back from moving forward with my circular economy consulting business?

S2E1: What is holding me back from moving forward with my circular economy consulting business?

How do we get started or keep going? In this conversation our anonymous change-maker reminds us we aren’t alone in our struggle to take action. As sustainability champions, we dream big and often have clear visions. However, as big as our dreams and clear as our visions might be, the enormity of the task can slow us down. Which brings us back to the question, how do we get started… or keep going?

📝 KEY NOTES/ KEY QUESTIONS ❓

  • Change-makers have great vision, but doing and building that into reality is HARD. The doing is critical but…
  • Do you give yourself grace?
  • Do you make yourself important?
  • You can’t make a plant grow faster, just continue to nurture it, and it will grow.
  • What’s a time you feel good about doing work?
  • Who can hold you accountable to doing the work?
  • Don’t operate from a place of fear, find self-love and self-acceptance to continue the journey.

Hey there, Chance AKA the Designer 🐺 and MCK AKA the Present Squirrel 🐿 here welcoming you to the #VIRIVERSE ♾, the place where change-makers come to unlock a balanced soul and scale positive impact.

🔑 KEY POINTS

  • Chance: How do you reach people who don’t share the same values?  Tom: You make the issues relevant for them. You tap into values that they have, you listen with the goal of understanding where they are coming from and you find the common values you share.
  • Don’t hate the player, hate the game. To enact change, we must think systemically.  We need to disrupt the broken system.
  • Climate grief - we need to go through the grieving process and then support each other to find meaning in the suffering and come together to make positive changes.

#5 Pt. 2 "How to Solve the Plastic Pollution Crisis” with Jose Miguel Gutierrez @ Re:ganic

#5 Pt. 2 "How to Solve the Plastic Pollution Crisis” with Jose Miguel Gutierrez @ Re:ganic

Meet sustainable entrepreneur Jose Miguel Gutierrez AKA The Symbiotic 🐢. He and his company Re:ganic are changing the game in the space of bio-plastics. Learn how they turn a wasted resource into a replacement for plastic films. We talk family, motivation, and systems change along the way.

Want the visuals? Enjoy episode #5…

🎥 on YouTube.

🔑 KEY POINTS

Re:ganic is creating a drop-in replacement for plastic that doesn’t cost more than plastic film production. This is critical, because as long as oil is the cheapest solution we will keep using it to create plastic materials. If the cost is the same or lower for sustainable materials, WE CAN SHIFT to a better system.

Chitosan, found in shrimp shells and mushrooms, is one of the most abundant resources on Earth and is the key ingredient to this process!

EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility): Creates an accountability for packaging and consumption through a fee structure. While it is important for all to be accountable (including the individual), producers must make changes to help us all be sustainable in how we live each day.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment): Looking at the life of a product from start to finish is the way of the present and future for healthier supply chain innovation.

Can we turn unsustainable systems into regenerative opportunities? ie: The waste from the shrimp industry can become a zero waste solution to address plastic pollution (this is what we would call regeneration!)

Sustainability is personal… Love for yourself and family is everything!

#3 Pt. 2: "Community Resiliency & Circular Supply Chains" with Matt Abbott @ GivGroup

How do you build a sustainable community?

Meet Matt Abbott AKA The Systems Thinker & his employer, Giv Group, to learn how he guides a change-making formula at the intersection of community resiliency, smart supply chain design, & challenging the status quo on energy, waste, & water to equal... CIRCULAR INNOVATION.

Enjoy episode #3…

🔑 KEY POINTS

  • Sustainability beacon: Sharing nature and solving big problems!
  • Billionaires and foundation funding can be helpful but maybe not sustainable to actually solving the problem you're facing, since the money can be moved to other causes frequently.
  • Utilities are led by people just trying to keep the lights on. Push them to a sustainable and renewable place, but be compassionate.
  • Workers need to be able to afford to live where they work (rent should be less than the standard 35+% of your income). If they can’t afford it, we have more risk factors for climate, safety, and more!
  • Advice for businesses trying to use renewable energy: Find a lawyer or a diplomatic voice that can negotiate between you and the utility/city/government/etc.
  • Matt: Genetic privilege is a real thing, how can we give it back? Chance: We can feel guilty and take no action and likely perpetuate the problem, or we can do something about it and break through the walls!
  • Matt Abbott: “People feel better when they are digging ditches instead of yelling about why there are no ditches out there.”

🔑 KEY POINTS

  • Sustainability beacon: Sustainability is something everyone can and should be able to participate in.
  • Don’t blame and shame, it won’t get people inspired to join the movement.
  • Astrapto’s sustainable approach: PEACE (Practical -- Economical -- Approachable -- Celebrated -- Enjoyable).
  • Imposter syndrome is an imposter! For those who are in privilege or power, give space to others or... let them lead you!
  • A sustainable business can’t be sustainable all the time. Don’t try to be perfect at the expense of your business’s ability to make money and impact.
  • Do you have to be an expert to revolutionize something??? NO! Sometimes not knowing the “best practices” gives you a strength and fresh perspective. You’ll learn as you go.
