Trauma and Tenacity in Vietnam by Dr. Mary Ingui, Chapter By Chapter

Trauma and Tenacity in Vietnam by Dr. Mary Ingui, Chapter By Chapter

Trauma and Tenacity in Vietnam: A Surgeon's Story, captures the defining period in the medical life of Capt. Sheldon Kushner, MD, while stationed in Vinh Long, Vietnam, from 1968-69. Through letters, reel-to-reel tape recordings, slides and the personal interviews that recounted his experience, the story of a young surgeon is revealed.

When we think of Vietnam and medicine, there is a natural tendency to think of the M*A*S*H image of treating American soldiers wounded in combat. However, unlike the TV doctors who helped our servicemen, Sheldon used his medical skills to care for wounded Vietnamese civilians. This role represents a new part of the story that is Vietnam. It was an effort by our government to improve the health conditions and showcase America's compassion and good intentions to win the hearts and minds of the South Vietnamese people.

The great hope was that the South Vietnamese would embrace these medical practices and continue them, just as our military believed that as we advised the South Vietnamese, they would gain the ability and motivation to defeat the North Vietnamese. This lofty goal of medical mentorship was never achieved, but the men and women who went to do the job came away changed and wholly committed to the idea that they made a difference. When we read this book about other people's lives, we feel their triumphs and tragedies; we vicariously experience the lessons life taught them.

In Vietnam, Sheldon learned that he was a survivor, a man whose love of medicine was broadened to explore the inner sense of pride in his work. He discovered he had the tenacity to meet the challenge of unrelenting daily surgery and that under less-than-optimal conditions, he and his team could use creativity to accomplish their goal of keeping people alive. His ethics were left intact in spite of what he saw around him. Most of the letters and tapes utilized in the writing of this book reflect the emotions of an inexperienced 26-year old physician.

Marine Corps Way of War by Anthony Piscatelli, Chapter by Chapter

Marine Corps Way of War by Anthony Piscatelli, Chapter by Chapter

The Marine Corps Way of War: The Evolution of the U.S. Marine Corps from Attrition to Maneuver Warfare in the Post-Vietnam Era examines the evolving doctrine, weapons, and capability of the United States Marine Corps during the four decades since our last great conflict in Asia.

As author Anthony Piscitelli demonstrates, the USMC has maintained its position as the nation’s foremost striking force while shifting its thrust from a reliance upon attrition to a return to maneuver warfare. Piscitelli methodically explains the evolution by using traditional and first-person accounts by the prime movers of this paradigm shift. In Indochina, for example, the Marines not only held territory but engaged in now-legendary confrontational battles at Hue and Khe Sanh.

As a percentage of those engaged, the Marines suffered higher casualties than any other branch of the service. In the post-Vietnam assessment, however, the USMC absorbed Sun Tzu’s aspects of Asian warfare and returned to its historical DNA in fighting “small wars” to evolve a superior alternative to the battlefield. The institutionalization of maneuver philosophy began with the Marine Corps’ educational system, analyzing the actual battlespace of warfare—be it humanitarian assistance, regular set-piece battles, or irregular guerrilla war—and the role that the leadership cadre of the Marine Corps played in this evolutionary transition from attrition to maneuver.

This change has sometimes been incorrectly portrayed (including by the Congressional Military Reform Caucus) as a disruptive or forced evolution. Analysis from former commandants of the Marine Corps to junior officers on the ground in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere demonstrate otherwise. The ability of the Marines to impact the battlefield—and help achieve our strategic goals—has only increased during the post-Cold War era.

The Center of the Universe by Matthew Pallamary, Chapter by Chapter

The Center of the Universe by Matthew Pallamary, Chapter by Chapter

*INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARD* *AWARD WINNING FINALIST*
Based  on a lifetime of research into shamanism, visionary states, the  evolution of written communication and the roots of storytelling,  award-winning author, editor, and shamanic explorer Matthew J. Pallamary  takes those with open minds courageous enough to question the illusions  that most of us think of as real on an expansive journey that pierces  the veil of reality itself.
Pallamary's in-depth analysis of human  perception, shamanism, visionary states, cognitive neuroscience, plant  and animal consciousness, and sacred geometry, as well as the  prehistoric roots of our deepest cultural myths not only lay bare the  illusory roots of what we have built our failing society on, it provides  a detailed map that points the way through the non-sense hall of  mirrors that we currently find ourselves trapped in.
The Center Of The  Universe Is Right Between Your Eyes, But Home Is Where the Heart Is, available on Audible, is  Pallamary's thirteenth book, and in it he weaves a convincing tapestry  that alternates threads of ancient philosophies and preserved indigenous  wisdom with recent discoveries in quantum physics, psychology, and the  timeless, persistent archetypes of our subconscious.
About the Author

Author of over a dozen books, Matthew J. Pallamary is an award  winning writer, musician, and sound healer who has been studying  shamanism all of his life and incorporates shamanic practices into his  daily life as well as into his writing and teaching. His historical  novel of first contact between shamans and Jesuits in 18th century South  America, titled, Land Without Evil received rave reviews along with a  San Diego Book Award. It was also adapted into a stage show, the making  of which was the subject of a PBS series that garnered an EMMY  nomination.

Matt has spent thirty years studying Ayahuasca, its rituals  and traditions and its “helper plants”, and has done extended shamanic  plant dietas in the Peruvian Amazon for the last twenty years. He has  also studied and worked with numerous other visionary and healing plants  found worldwide. The Center Of The Universe Is Right Between Your Eyes But Home Is Where The Heart Is

The Center Of The Universe Is Right Between Your Eyes But Home Is Where The Heart Is

*INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARD* *AWARD WINNING FINALIST*  Based  on a lifetime of research into shamanism, visionary states, the  evolution of written communication and the roots of storytelling,  award-winning author, editor, and shamanic explorer Matthew J.

His memoir Spirit Matters detailing his journeys to  Peru, working with shamanic plant medicines took first place in the San  Diego Book Awards Spiritual Book Category, and was an Award-Winning  Finalist in the autobiography/memoir category of the National Best Book  Awards. Spirit Matters is also available as an audio book.

Underdog Thinking by Atul Vir, Chapter by Chapter

Underdog Thinking by Atul Vir, Chapter by Chapter

Underdog Thinking is real-life business adventure story that follows the journey of an Indian immigrant to the U.S. who was told he “didn’t know a damn thing about American business”. But as opportunity would have it, a short time later he found himself an accidental entrepreneur with a front row ticket to the ins and outs of launching and growing a business. He was flying high on his growing success - until a fateful moment when everything changed.

As businesses rise and fall to the tune of supply and demand, sometimes the harshest betrayals come out of nowhere, when you least expect it - as do the surprising sparks of hope. When an unforeseen circumstance initiates a chain of events that leave him at a crossroads he must make the tough call: to give in and give up, or push through and win. CEO, business ethics thought leader, speaker, and author Atul Vir has lived that story. And even in the darkest moments when failure seemed most imminent, he drew on the work ethic instilled from his earliest days, and his commitment to do right by his customers - to bring his dream up from the ashes and back to life. In his new audiobook, Underdog Thinking, Vir inspires listeners to face any challenge that comes their way - with practical business lessons for every step of the journey gleaned from his experience as both an immigrant building a business and as CEO of Equator Appliances for more than 25 years.

The audiobook dives into current themes dominating the business landscape, including: global business, overcoming failure, bootstrapping, securing financing, immigration, and what innovation truly means. While many people offer sage advice on these topics, Vir’s lessons are paired with a unique, captivating story, and more than two decades of entrepreneurial expertise in an industry dominated by much bigger players - major multinational corporations.

Accounting Quick Start Guide by Josh Bauerle, Chapter by Chapter

Accounting Quick Start Guide by Josh Bauerle, Chapter by Chapter

Learning the fundamentals of accounting is like learning a new language. Becoming “literate” in accounting doesn’t take quite as long as learning Russian, Spanish, or Chinese, but the advantages are indeed comparable.

It’s safe to say that many people fear numbers – “I was terrible at math in school!” – so the word “accounting” calls up, for many, memories of days spent struggling over high school algebra. They prefer to leave the accounting to those who hang a CPA shingle outside their door, confident that the professionals will do a much better job of managing their money.

But the fact remains that everyone should have a little accounting knowledge and, truly, the math involved isn’t all that difficult. Nonetheless, knowing the basics, from how to balance your checkbook to learning to keep good financial records for tax purposes, can go a long way, whether you’re a small business owner, investor, manager, lender, or just in charge of the household finances.

Having a clear knowledge of your business’s financial life is important. No one should be in the dark about their overall financial picture. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. However, with a perfunctory knowledge of basic accounting principles, including assets and liabilities, creating financial statements, budgeting, and more, you’ll be on the road to healthier relationship with your money.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.
