Juggling Act: Navigating Work and Personal Life Balance

Juggling Act: Navigating Work and Personal Life Balance

Achieving work-life balance is crucial to your overall well-being. It can help reduce stress, increase happiness, and improve your physical and mental health. However, in today's fast-paced world, it can be challenging to balance work and personal life. In this article, we'll discuss some tips for achieving work-life balance and living your best life.

Why is work-life balance important?

Work-life balance is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. When work and personal life are out of balance, it can lead to stress, burnout, and health problems. On the other hand, when you have balance in your life, you'll feel more energized, motivated, and focused. You'll be able to enjoy your personal life while performing well at work.

Tips for Achieving Work-Life Balance

 1. Prioritize Self-Care: Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Prioritizing self-care helps boost your mood, reduces stress, and increases your overall happiness.
 2. Plan Your Schedule: Plan your day and stick to your schedule as much as possible. By prioritizing your work and personal tasks, you can achieve balance and ensure you're allocating enough time for both.
 3. Set Boundaries: Establish boundaries that help you balance your work and personal life. Setting boundaries can mean letting your coworkers know when you're off work hours or putting aside time for family activities.
 4. Practice Mindfulness: Practicing mindfulness can help you reduce stress, anxiety and bring you more clarity and focus. You can practice mindfulness by meditation, yoga, or simply taking a moment to breathe and focus on the present.
 5. Unplug: Take a break from technology and social media for a day or two. Unplugging can help you feel more present in your personal life, reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality.
 6. Make Time for Hobbies: Making time for hobbies is essential for maintaining balance in your life. Hobbies can help you relieve stress, increase creativity and help you connect with like-minded people.
 7. Ask for Help: Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Remember, it's okay to ask for help, and it can help you achieve balance in your life.

Conclusion

Achieving work-life balance is critical for your overall well-being. Prioritizing self-care, planning your schedule, setting boundaries, practicing mindfulness, unplugging, making time for hobbies, and asking for help can help you find balance in your life. By implementing these tips, you can achieve balance, reduce stress, and live your best life.

Mini Episode: And Then It Was Dark, My Retina Detachment Journey Part 1

Mini Episode: And Then It Was Dark, My Retina Detachment Journey Part 1

Almost a week ago, I lost the peripheral vision in my left eye. The day started out as any other day would - exciting, as I was tying up loose ends for a Shot Show event and upcoming week of filming. However, things took a turn for the worse when I started seeing some weird flashes of light in my left eye. All of a sudden, it looked like a grey marble had appeared in my vision, except there was no marble and it was actually happening inside my eye.
I called my eye specialist's office within 15 minutes of experiencing symptoms and they told me to come in for a rush visit. I'm so glad I did because it turns out my retina had become detached. This is a very serious issue that can cause permanent blindness, so I'm incredibly lucky that the specialist was able to see me so quickly.
At first, I was really upset that I wouldn't be able to go to Shot Show because I had been looking forward to seeing so many friends there. But then I realized how serious my condition was and I was just grateful that I was getting the treatment I needed.
I had an emergency procedure done while awake in the ophthalmologist's office within the hour. No time to research. I knew I had the best doctor in the area, so I had to go with it. I had vitrectomy surgery. Small microsurgical instruments were introduced into my eye to remove the vitreous gel of the eye. Fluid that leaked underneath my retina was removed and cryopexy was applied to the retina to seal the retinal tear.
Basically, my eye was frozen to form scar tissue around a retinal tear, which acts like glue. Then, a gas bubble was placed to fill the inside of my eye and block fluid from entering the tear. Guys, I had needles shoved in my eye while awake! The first few shots numbed my eye. I had surgery on the white part of my eye, so once it heals, it should look normal again. Immediately after the surgery, the white part of my eye was bloodshot like I'd never seen before. My eye was pretty swollen and the pressure in my eye was 60 at one point.
I had to keep my head tilted to the right at all times for several days. Yesterday was the first day I could position my head upright, but I was extremely dizzy most of the day because I was so used to having my head tilted. The gas bubble that's repairing my eye is also a danger if I'm not extra careful.
I've been very uncomfortable trying to sleep at night because I typically sleep all over the place, including on my stomach. I have to keep pillows under my back so I don't accidentally flip over and cause the gas bubble in my eye to block my line of vision, which would be really bad and basically make me blind if I lay on my back right now.
The bubble will dissolve within another week or so or could last for for a few weeks - everyone’s body processes this differently. Some bubbles last up to 8 weeks. 🫧👁️‍🗨️ I had many gas bubbles in my eye at first but they all come together to form one big bubble during head positioning (the right sided head tilt thing, that’s why you have to keep your head tilted).
I'm glad my retina didn't detach in the air or in Vegas, because if it had, I would have lost the vision in my left eye completely. My doctor told me that if it hadn't been treated right away, I would have had much bigger issues and would more than likely experience complete blindness in my left eye. I still have the bubble in my eye, but as of right now, my vision is the same as it was before the tear, which is great news. My pressure was also stabilized quickly during the procedure. The bubble in my eye is pretty annoying, and laying on my side to sleep sucks, but as of right now, I'm fortunate.
I have to be a couch potato for another week, but then I can start walking for exercise again (gently). Within a few weeks, I'll be able to hit the gym (and a much-needed spa day)!
If you notice any of these symptoms seek help immediately:
Blurred vision, inability to see in dim light, partial loss of vision, seein

It doesn't matter what you like to do or what your passion is, you can always find a way to make a hobby of it.

When you are looking for a new hobby, you have to find something that you are passionate about, whether it be an activity, a sport, a creative endeavor or an existing hobby that you are interested in improving upon. However, if you do find a hobby that you are passionate about, that you truly enjoy, you will be much more likely to continue doing it and it will help you to create new experiences that you enjoy and to be more creative and open-minded.

Most of you know I love writing and I've been writing since, well... before I could spell! Some of my first memories were, "writing" the letters E and O with my grandma as I told her a story of what I WANTED to write. 😂

For fun, I ghostwrite fictional narratives - something I've been doing for a while now. Last year, I learned how to create AI digital artwork to go along with the made-up stories I write. I love writing fiction because it allows my brain to take a much-needed break from reality and explore creative possibilities.

So what is the right hobby for you?

Mini-Episode: Top 10 Reasons To Prioritize Yourself First, From Someone Who Had To Learn The Hard Way

Mini-Episode: Top 10 Reasons To Prioritize Yourself First, From Someone Who Had To Learn The Hard Way

Special Mini-Episode.

As a mother, caregiver, and someone who just likes helping others, I'm used to putting other people's needs before my own. I began to feel burnout and my health suffered as a result. When I was stressed, I would either eat more or sleep in more. I felt my energy being drained because I spent all of my time and energy on other people. I didn't realize that by giving others 100% of my attention, I was doing them a disservice by not taking care of myself.

One day this past summer, as I was lying in bed, I had a life-changing thought: "There has to be more to life than feeling drained and defeated all the time." I was so exhausted, both physically and emotionally. I can't say for sure what led to that thought, but it could be years of unhealed trauma from Ken's deployment, being his caregiver at an early age, the loss of our friends in war, the death of my mother to cancer, my father's untimely and unexpected death, and the realization of other peoples' less-than-good intentions with my heart and time that came to light.

The thought of there being more to life than just pain and suffering has always been what motivated me to get up and start making changes in my life and this time was no different.

In October, I decided to take action and began making changes in my life that I felt would help me feel better. I changed my diet, started exercising more, and drinking more water. I even had weight-loss surgery in November! Additionally, I started doing guided meditations and playing my Oculus again - something that I really enjoy. These changes have helped me immensely and I finally feel like I'm living again instead of just existing to help everyone else.

I've finally come to truly understand that taking care of myself should always be a priority. In the past, I would pour everything I had into others without taking the time to assess my own life and needs. I realized that I spent too much time trying to fix others and not enough time focusing on fixing myself. All my life, I was told that it was selfish to focus on myself and that people should be giving, but I now realize that this way of thinking is wrong.

Top 10 Reasons To Put Yourself First

 • You can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking time for yourself allows you to be more available for others.
 • Investing in yourself develops self-confidence and builds self-esteem.
 • Putting yourself first allows you to set boundaries and practice self-care.
 • When you prioritize your own needs, you’re better able to focus on your goals.
 • By looking after yourself, you’ll be in a better position to support others.
 • You’ll have more energy to do the things you enjoy when you put yourself first.
 • Taking time for yourself gives you the opportunity to reflect and learn from your experiences.
 • Taking care of your own needs will help you to make healthier decisions for yourself.
 • Prioritizing yourself helps you to appreciate and value yourself more.

As the year comes to a close, it's the perfect time for some self-reflection. If you're feeling like your life is in shambles and you're constantly having to spread yourself thin for everyone else, it's time to make a change. It's okay to take a step back and assess what areas of your life are lacking so that you can start working on finding your happiness again. Trust me, I've been there before and I know how hard it can be. But it's so important to work on bettering yourself - even if it means making some tough changes in your life.

• Being a cop on TikTok is hard.

• And so much more!

About Texas Cop:

Chuck, Tex, or TexCop2.0, is a Houston-area cop and Tik Tok star! Monday at 3:00 p.m. on Houston Life, we're introducing you to a Houston-area police officer that's viral on TikTok. He's known as @texascop2.0 on TikTok, with 1.6 million followers and 32.4 million likes. He created his TikTok account last year, and his funny videos are a hit! He'll join us in the studio Monday at 3:00 p.m. on KPRC 2.

He started doing TikTok when COVID happened, and everybody was bored at home. Most cops or people in first responders always deal with depression and mental health, and anxiety; some don't know how to take it out. Some of them play video games, or some people might, you know, work too many history jobs to counteract that, but he found himself making videos at the gym whenever he was working out of the gym And then somebody was like, "Man, Get on Tik Tok." And then, as he started posting a video, it just went viral, and it's been a year and a half now, and it's like nonstop. Initially, he is from Nigeria, born and raised; he moved here when he was 14. All he has done in life is be a first responder, and he was doing firefighter EMT when he was 18 years old, for five years, and then he switched to being a police officer. Now five years. So for the past almost ten years, he has made his first response. He tried to use his videos to bring awareness to actual call matters. Like some calls, it could be missing child domestic violence between a male or female, a female, and a male. Just bring his breast cancer has his shirt that he is wearing to bring awareness to breast cancer. Hip Hop people went through breast cancer.

About Denny Katona:

In late 2015, founder Denny Katona was approached about seeking a corporate donation for the Corporal Chad Eric Oligschlaeger Foundation for PTSD. Denny had previously undergone EMDR therapy for post-traumatic stress, funded by the Cpl Chad O Foundation. Seeking to give back to the organization that helped him find life after the trauma. Not satisfied with simply getting a donation, Denny put together the first Spring Kickoff event, held in April 2016. Resourcing sponsorship, prizes, and entertainment for the event, his team successfully raised $7700 for the Foundation.

During the weeks leading up to and following the event, Denny was immersed in networking to ensure the event was a success. He began to learn more and more about different organizations and the immense Veteran Community within the Greater Austin area. From that discovery, the very first VetFest was born, bringing together close to 50 different Veteran organizations and businesses, all for Austin area Veterans, in November of 2016. Based on the feedback received from vendors and attendees and their desire to see VetFest continue, Denny founded O.P. Veteran.

Since its founding, O.P. Veteran has continued to grow and evolve while staying true to its focus of easing the emotional transition by helping Veterans find a post-military passion and purpose. Spring Kickoff now boasts a formal beneficiary package, and O.P. VetFest has grown to be the largest outdoor veteran event of its kind within the Great State of Texas, as well as hosting numerous Veteran Engagement events throughout the year, such as RED Fridays and the Flag Day Freedom Float.

Steve Schwab: Breaking News! VA Secretary calls for thorough review of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Program for Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers

SPECIAL EPISODE. Many of you have heard me talk about the disappointment with the way the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has removed thousands of long term Military Veteran Caregivers who care for our wounded, ill and injured service members from their program. These Caregivers help oversee the medical treatment and various other ways our Military Veterans need assistance.

The removal has had a significant impact on the families who are affected by the removals, many of which took place just before the holiday season. I've received many messages and calls from caregivers over the last few months asking for my guidance or just someone to talk to. As you know, I was chosen in 2015-2016 to serve as an Elizabeth Dole Foundation Fellow, representing the State of Florida and 5.5 million Military Veteran Caregivers Nationwide. I am now an Alumni Member of EDF and continue to advocate for our Nation's Heroes and Caregivers as I am able.

***Thursday, February 18, 2021 we had a small victory. The VA Secretary called for a thorough review of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Program for Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). I interviewed Steve Schwab from The Elizabeth Dole Foundation to discuss the major changes in the military veteran caregiver program at the VA. We also talk about the different services The Elizabeth Dole Foundation offers military veteran caregivers in the form of everything from financial support to respite, education and more.

About Douglas Smythe:

Douglas Smythe was first introduced to traditional shaving as a child watching his dad shave on the weekends. Fast forward to today and find him and his business, Phoenix Shaving, trailblazing on the forefront of the Traditional Wet Shaving revival currently seen crop up around the world.

Having created his first perfume at age eight with his chemistry set, and the die was cast. After college, he moved to Central America, where he lived in a hammock at the edge of the rain forest. While there, he developed an after-bite type solution that relieved the inflammation of bug bites. The product became popular with both locals and tourists alike, so much so, four years later, he was back in the USA producing and shipping his wares to Costa Rica.

Eventually, his passion for male grooming and traditional shaving became the focal point of his business, and Phoenix Shaving was born. Almost immediately, folks began to take notice of Phoenix Shaving’s daring scents and creative approach to all things shaving. Within two years, he and his business partner were featured in Forbes Magazine.

Douglas is also the co-host of the popular morning show I’d Lather Be Shaving and organizer of The Big Shave S’west, a yearly “Shave Festival” held outside of Los Angeles in sunny Mesa, Arizona. In addition, he is a lively online personality and a dynamic public speaker on all things male grooming with a concentration in the art and technique of traditional shaving.
