We Shall All Be Changed with Whitney K. Pipkin

We Shall All Be Changed with Whitney K. Pipkin

Death teaches us how to live.

When Whitney K. Pipkin's mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she wasn't ready. How could she be? She searched for resources that could help her walk through this heavy yet sacred time in her life. But she struggled to find the guidance she longed for in a season of anticipatory grief.

We Shall All Be Changed is a companion for those experiencing the lonely season of suffering and death. In this book, Whitney reaches across the pages to hold the hand of the caregiver. Walking through death with a loved one can be incredibly isolating and unsettling. This book reminds us that we can experience God's very presence in life's dark and deep valleys. As Whitney draws from her own experience, she sheds light and hope. She shows that we are not alone. And she reveals the mysterious way that God ministers to and transforms us through death and suffering.

Beautifully honest and theologically rich, Whitney invites us to consider death so that we might understand life and how to live it.

A book for those who are caring for the sick and dying . . . for those who will care for parents, family, or friends in their last days . . . and for those who have already walked this journey. This book is for us.

I pray you are encouraged by this episode.

Praying Personalities with Janet McHenry

Praying Personalities with Janet McHenry

You should pray in the morning.
You should write out your prayers.
You should make prayer lists and pray through them every day. You should pray with others or out loud.

We've all heard the "you shoulds" of prayer from pulpits, presenters, and well-meaning friends. But when none of these ways to pray feel natural, what's next?

Janet Holm McHenry has studied prayer extensively, and the one thing she knows for sure is that there's no one-size-fits-all way to pray. Instead, there are different styles of prayer—and by discovering the style most instinctive to each individual personality, staying in touch with God throughout the day becomes simple and all the more joyful.

In this book, the author helps readers determine their particular praying personality by examining the praying styles of biblical people, spiritual gifts, and various ideas about personality, including the classic temperaments, the Enneagram, and more. McHenry includes scores of bulleted suggestions for developing a praying lifestyle that works for individuals. She has also created a Praying Personality Quiz for readers (available in the book and online) to help narrow down the style that will most naturally fit into how they process a prayer life.

Whether a longtime Christian who has tried various prayer strategies but can't keep up or a new believer looking to learn about this spiritual discipline, every reader who dives into this book will come away with a renewed prayer life and a greater understanding of who God created them to be.

I pray you are encouraged by this episode.

Processing Grief Through Reading and Writing with Sarah Arthur

Processing Grief Through Reading and Writing with Sarah Arthur

Nearly a decade ago, during National Novel Writing Month, bestselling nonfiction author Sarah Arthur let her imagination run free when she began writing Once a Queen, a novel that had been living in her imagination since the early 2000s. On January 30, 2024, her sparkling YA fantasy will be published by WaterBrook, the Penguin Random House imprint behind the Wingfeather Saga, the bestselling middle-grade series which has sold more than one million copies.

Arthur’s first venture into the world of fantasy makes sense, as her extensive knowledge of Lord of the Rings and active involvement in the C.S. Lewis Festival and Madeleine L’Engle Writing Retreats can be felt with the flip of every page — the story is richly woven, atmospheric, and captures the cozy magic akin to classics like The Secret Garden, The Chronicles of Narnia, and A Wrinkle in Time, while also telling a fresh and delightful world-weaving tale for wonder-hungry young minds.

Readers are transported to the English countryside alongside Eva, the American teenage protagonist who secretly wishes fairy tales were true. Nevertheless, while spending the summer at her grandmother’s mysterious English manor, unusual happenings in the gardens at night lead Eva to wonder if portals to alternate universes exist…and if her grandmother was once a queen in one of those worlds. Arthur was working through grief while writing this novel, and she hopes the intricate themes of generational wounds, redemption, and imagination will ease the young minds that pick up Once a Queen.

Health in Body, Mind, and Finances: A Journey Together with Jamil Frazier

Health in Body, Mind, and Finances: A Journey Together with Jamil Frazier

In a recent survey, I read that while most U.S. adults understand self-care as balancing all health aspects, an overwhelming 41% are engulfed in daily responsibilities, making self-care a daunting task. When do people succeed? When they have support. 60% of adults believe having support is critical to prioritizing self-care. We are social beings who thrive with encouragement and companionship on our health journey.

Interestingly, the survey highlights exercise, sleep, and mental health as the top areas of self-care. These are crucial yet often overlooked components of a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, more than half of the respondents view self-care days as a temporary solution, emphasizing the importance of cultivating small, daily habits for lasting change. And I'm here to tell you that EVERYTHING can change when you seek others to help you.

In 2023, I never planned on going on a health journey. Truthfully, I just got to the place where I was tired of being overweight and exhausted. I knew another diet wasn't going to work. Instead, I turned to my friend Amber Lia and asked her to be my health coach. I was excited because her coaching was free. But the best part is that Amber had been where I was. She's lost 90lbs and has kept it off for five years.

I started my health journey at the end of March and lost over 80 pounds. I leaned into the program, and I turned to Amber for help. She didn't judge me. Instead, she gently guided me.

With Habits of Health, most of their coaches began as clients, providing empathy and understanding rooted in personal experience. This program isn't just about offering tools. It's about approaching wellness in a way that encompasses mind, body, and spirit. And the coaches guide your way. It's like a cheerleading squad on your wellness journey!

That's a long introduction leading up to today's guest. Soon after I started my health journey, I started coaching others--primarily for accountability. As Amber says, "The system is already developed. Coaching is just caring and sharing." I love that!

Then, I met Jamil through Amber. Amber has looked up to Jamil for help and advice for years. When I started as a health coach, I attended trainings led by Jamil. I soon learned that Jamil is both wise and inspiring. After spending time with Jamil, I WANT to do more for myself and others! God has good plans for us, and I want to follow them well.

Because I've received so much encouragement, I asked if Jamil could encourage you through this podcast. Jamil is inspiring but also practical. After tuning in, I hope you'll start thinking differently about your dreams and goals. (I know you will!) I also hope you'll see that "self-care" will impact you and allow you to impact others.

No More Bad Days with Gary Miracle

No More Bad Days with Gary Miracle

Gary Miracle is a Christian advocate and motivational speaker. Michigan-born and Florida-raised by a close-knit family, Gary’s life would forever be changed by two events: First, the day he placed his faith in Jesus Christ, and second, the phone call he got to work with MercyMe, the Christian band that brought the world, “I Can Only Imagine,” as their merchandise manager. Both his relationship with Christ and friendship with the band would have an eternal impact.

Gary is the biological dad of three boys and the adopted dad of a forever Colombian daughter. Their family is rounded out by Ecmo, Gary’s service dog.

In December of 2019, Gary fell ill, his body in septic shock after an advanced case of the flu. In the days to follow, he survived a number of life-threatening moments including coding and being revived. After falling into a coma, Gary’s family had to make the unfathomable decision to attempt to save his life by agreeing for the doctors to amputate both his hands and feet. Through his long and arduous recovery, Gary had to make the difficult, daily choice to discover a new life that, today, he believes was always waiting on him to experience.

A two decades-plus friendship with Grammy-nominated Christian band MercyMe was the catalyst for them to introduce Gary’s story to the world through the music video for their hit song “Say I Won’t.”

Today, when Gary isn’t at home with his family in central Florida, he is out on the road sharing his story to churches, conferences, and conventions of how he discovered the life God always had waiting on him, in spite of personal tragedy and trauma.

Gary invites everyone who hears his message of grace and hope to profess, “I will have no more bad days! Say I won’t!”

“At the end of the day, I’m going to be okay. I’m going to have hands and legs again. I’m going to be playing with my kids. I’m going to walk my daughter down the aisle. I’m going to be able to do all these things because we have a really really good God. And if one person gets to go to Heaven because of anything I go through, then bring it on!”

More about No More Bad Days

When tragedy struck, Gary Miracle could have given up. Instead, he chose a different perspective, discovering depths of grace and heights of hope he had only ever heard of before.

At first, he thought he had a bad case of the flu—some kind of bug he’d caught from one of his kids. But Gary Miracle’s illness turned out to be an infection so severe that the only way to save his life was amputating both arms below the elbows and both legs below the knees.

The loss of his limbs was not the only challenge Gary had to face. Excruciating difficulties marked his family life as well. In 2020, the Grammy-nominated Christian band MercyMe shared Gary’s story with the world through the music video to their hit song “Say I Won’t,” and he emerged as a powerful voice for the grace of God.

In the spirit of Romans 8:28, understanding that God works through all circumstances, Miracle has responded in faith by helping and encouraging others who have faced personal challenges. Today, he travels the world, sharing the hope-filled message that, through Christ in light of eternity, there are no more bad days. Regardless of your circumstances, every day can be a new beginning.

If you have suffered loss, experienced trauma, or been forced to rebuild your life from the ground up, this book is for you. Gary Miracle invites everyone who hears his message or reads this book to profess, “I will have no more bad days! Say I won’t!”

In Conversation with M.D. House

In late 2020, M.D. House semi-retired from a successful career in the Corporate world. He enjoyed his time there and still consults part-time, but being able to pursue his passion for creative writing has been a blessing.

Many years ago, while writing on a very limited basis, he came within a hair’s breadth of getting a science fiction novel published. Since embarking on my new journey with much more time and focus, he has published that (very long) book and a sequel, along with six religious historical fiction novels (which were a surprise to me). M.D. House has gotten award recognition, including a Chaucer Award finalist nod for The Barabbas Legacy, along with a favorable review from Kirkus for The Servant of Helaman, a spy thriller.

M.D. House’s schedule is filled with new projects, including his first fantasy novel, provisionally titled Crossroads of Sundering Memory, the sequel to The Servant of Helaman, and a pair of screenplays. The third volume of the Patriot Star sci-fi series will be on the docket soon as well.

More about Sophia

After her miraculous rescue by the angel Raphael, Sophia, daughter of Barabbas and Chanah, sets out with the former slave Onesimus to find the elusive and itinerant apostle John. Once they find him, an unexpected trip outside the Roman empire into the mysterious northern nation of Sarmatia expands her understanding of God’s global efforts to gather his children to their Savior.

It also reveals in starker detail the pernicious, pervasive attempts by the adversary to disrupt the work and turn the children of God toward evil and superstition. Pride is her own weakness, and she must learn how to temper and control it, so that her mind might be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

What surprises await her as she travels great distances with the Lord’s beloved apostle to spread the message of the gospel? How differently does God see her life than what she has assumed? What will happen to the growing church’s relationship with Rome when Emperor Vespasian dies and his sons pick up the mantle? And how does John continue to have so much energy and faith?

More about Seizing the Good Life:

Living on high alert drains your energy and steals your joy. There is a better way and Seizing the Good Life will help you find it as it takes you through the Gospel of John.

If our chaotic culture has left you drained of joy, here’s some good news: there is a way to get it back—and keep it.

Let’s face it. Joy is becoming as scarce in our culture as fresh eggs at the grocery store. Constant headlines about one catastrophe after another, along with living in a society bent on erasing God from our consciousness, can leave us stressed out and working hard just to get by—far from the good life of abundant joy Jesus promised us.

And yet, He did promise us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. So how do we go about seizing the good life from the jaws of depression and hopelessness that threaten us now?

Shellie Rushing Tomlinson has walked this path and knows the way. With the Gospel according to John as her roadmap—and plenty of personal stories, insights, and a healthy dollop of humor for good measure—she can help you not only rediscover the peace and joy found in friendship with Jesus, the Lover of your soul, but maintain it over the long haul.

God never intended for you to hold on to a dry faith with chewed-up fingernails. You really can know peace and joy in the middle of our anxious and angry culture. A deep dive into this study will help you seize the good life once again.

Love is a Choice with Dr. Gary Chapman

Love is a Choice with Dr. Gary Chapman

“To last for the long haul and through the stresses and complexities of life, love has to be more than something we feel. It has to be something we do. We have to demonstrate it concretely in our marriages and families, among our friends and acquaintances, and, yes, even among our enemies. And that's what this book is about. In its pages, you'll see examples of people just like you—like all of us—who learned to take the obstacles, the lemons they face in life, and turn them into satisfying, emotional thirst-quenching nectar. These are the success stories that make you want to go out and discover the power of love.” Gary Chapman

If you’re feeling weary or burdened by the call to love, you’ll find strength and hope in the pages of this book. Love is a Choice gives us stories of love in action, inspiring us to go deeper in our relationships. Each story is coupled with 5 Love Languages® insights and application points.

Building Up Your Faith When Your World is Falling Apart

Building Up Your Faith When Your World is Falling Apart

Beloved author and Bible teacher Michele Cushatt offers ten practices to strengthen your confidence in God's daily presence and power and build a faith strong enough to endure even the toughest seasons.

Life can be hard. Although there are moments of beauty and goodness, more often than not, life is marked by fear, struggle, disappointment, and loss. And we don't know what to do with it. We've tried to find hope and security in various people and places--but each has proved unworthy of our trust. We need more. Something--or Someone--who won't fail us when our world falls apart.

In this book, beloved author and Bible teacher Michele Cushatt presents a better way. By exploring powerful personal, historical, and biblical stories of people of extraordinary faith, she curates and shares ten practices to help you deepen your confidence and certainty in the God who can be trusted with your worry, questions, confusion, and grief. As a woman who has been through immeasurable suffering, she writes with both deep compassion and practical insight as she guides you to:

Practice lament and process grief without guilt or shame

Understand what keeps you from trusting God and how to navigate doubt with truth

Learn simple ways to foster shalom and gratitude on a daily basis

Develop a fresh, eternal perspective that delivers both peace for today and hope for tomorrow

Savor daily "faith-builder" practices to strengthen your confidence in God's love and purposes for you, no matter what happens

There is hope in your hardship and a God who is both with you and for you. These ten practices point the way to the only One you can truly trust, and ultimately, to a faith in him that will not fail.

This whole-person, interactive approach to body image includes coloring sheets, journaling prompts, and therapist insights that ground you in God’s love and build you up in truth.

Are you tired of being at war with your body—and with your thoughts about your body? Rachael Gilbert struggled with shame when she didn’t measure up to her dream body image. Then, as a fitness instructor and licensed counselor specializing in disordered eating, she realized how many of us bury the same painful insecurities. But keeping up appearances is exhausting. We need restoration from the inside out.

In Image RESTored, Rachael offers professional guidance, coloring pages, Scripture, prayers, journaling prompts, and a link to online teaching videos to help you experience true freedom. See your whole self in a new way as you learn:

  • A biblical perspective on eating, weight loss, fitness, and self-confidence rooted in God’s love.
  • Counselor-inspired strategies to help you appreciate how God made you.
  • How to reframe stories that formed your attitude toward your body.
  • Tools for overcoming comparison and trauma.
  • Ways to use thoughts and feelings so they help you rather than sabotage you.

Rich with spiritual and therapeutic insights, this Christian body image workbook calls you to experience healing and wellness that starts with knowing God’s love for you—mind, soul, body, and spirit.

“Is there a struggle more universal than the one surrounding our views of our own bodies? Satan knows this is an easy target, and frankly, it’s one that is not discussed very often in the Church. That’s why I am so glad Rachael Gilbert wrote this book. I love how she mixes real-life experience with a biblical worldview and the expertise of a therapist. I believe there is such a need for this book right now in the Church, and there’s no better person to write it than Rachael.”

—from the foreword by Robert Morris, senior pastor of Gateway Church and author of The Blessed Life

How Ordinary People Can Have an Extraordinary Impact on the World

How Ordinary People Can Have an Extraordinary Impact on the World

There is so much negativity in the world. It seems to be everywhere we turn, and many of us quietly ask ourselves if this will ever improve. Even more, we are asking where we turn for hope and inspiration. Enter The Lighthouse Effect! We often think of actors or celebrities as those with the most influence, but each of us can think of those unsung heroes who have led us down brighter paths.

The Lighthouse Effect is the idea that any of us can be a lighthouse for someone or find a lighthouse for ourselves in any given moment and interaction. Understanding your lighthouse effect will change how you see the world and awaken you to the possibilities you have to shape that same world. All of us have an opportunity to say yes.

Steve Pemberton found a lighthouse in an ordinary man named John Sykes, his former high school counselor. John gave Steve a safe harbor after Steve escaped an abusive foster home, and together, they navigated a new path that led to personal and professional success. Through stories of people like John and several others, you will identify how the hardships you have overcome equip you to be a "human lighthouse," inspiring those around you.

You're going to love Steve's story. You might need a tissue, and I know you will be inspired!

Love, Pray, Listen

Love, Pray, Listen

More about Love, Pray, Listen:

"Love, Pray, Listen offers empathy and grounded biblical wisdom to help parents thrive, no matter what path their adult kids take."--PASTOR STEVE STROOPE

Wisdom and Hope for Parents of Grown-Ups

As a parent, your role changes drastically after your kids grow up. You fear heartache and strained relationships when your children choose difficult--even seemingly wrong--paths.

Love, Pray, Listen is the gracious, practical resource you need for navigating the rocky terrain of parenting grown-ups. In this book, mom and author Mary DeMuth answers questions like:

· What do I do when my kids make choices that don't align with my values?
· How do I keep communication lines open with my grown children?
· When do I speak, and when do I listen?
· Is it possible to hold on to my joy when parenting is so hard?
· How do I avoid the temptation of meddling in my kids' lives?

Love, Pray, Listen offers a robust theology for long-term parenting gleaned from the discipleship model Jesus exemplified, one that carefully and thoughtfully applies his way of expressing love.

This is your invitation for spiritual growth and a path toward fulfilling relationships with your adult children.

How to Trust God After Incredible Loss

How to Trust God After Incredible Loss

More about A Grace Disguised:

With vulnerability and honesty, Jerry Sittser walks through his own grief and loss to show that new life is possible--one marked by spiritual depth, joy, compassion, and a deeper appreciation of simple and ordinary gifts. This 25th-anniversary edition features a new introduction and two additional chapters, one which provides help for pastors and counselors.

Loss came suddenly for Jerry Sittser. In an instant, a tragic car accident claimed three generations of his family: his mother, his wife, and his young daughter. While most of us will not experience such a catastrophic loss in our lifetime, all of us will face some kind of loss in life. But we can, if we choose, know the grace that transforms us.

Whether your suffering has come in the form of chronic illness, disability, divorce, unemployment, crushing disappointment, or the loss of someone you love, Sittser will help you put your thoughts into words in a way that will guide you deeper into your own healing process.

This revised edition of A Grace Disguised plumbs the depths of our sorrows, asks questions many people are afraid to ask, and provides hope in its answers:

  • Will the pain ever subside?
  • Will my life ever be good again?
  • Will the depression ever lift?
  • Will I ever overcome the bitterness I feel?
  • What is God's plan in all of this?

The circumstances are not important; what we do with those circumstances is. In coming to the end of ourselves, we can come to the beginning of a new life.

Winning at Home

Winning at Home

More about Winning at Home:

Combining the expertise of credentialed counselors, coaches, and pastors, Winning at Home offers clarity in the midst of chaos on hard-hitting topics like mental health, technology, sexuality, and identity, for parents who are trying to raise children from a faith-based perspective.

Your home should be a place of victory for your family. But all too often, it feels like it’s not.

Parents today are raising kids in a culture that not only disagrees with their Christian faith—it strongly opposes it at every turn. We know our faith must inform every aspect of our parenting, but the Bible doesn’t always offer cut-and-dried answers on subjects like parenting a child with mental health problems, helping your kids develop good interpersonal skills and boundaries, understanding sexual identity, or successfully parenting adult children. Nor does the Church always address them—and for that reason, they can be both messy and frightening.

In Winning at Home, Dan Seaborn teams up with several of the credentialed members of his ministry’s staff to dive into the mess and help parents seeking a faith-based perspective on some of our culture’s most complex topics find firm footing.

So bring your questions with you into these pages, where you’ll discover a wealth of wisdom and resources to help you navigate the challenges of twenty-first-century parenting. It’s time to turn your losses around and start winning at home.

The 8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers

The 8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers

Today's podcast episode is perfect for homeschoolers and parents both (so even if you aren't a homeschooler, you'll still want to stick around!) But honestly, if you're in relationship with people, I'm sure you will find this a great conversation.

My guest today, Tina Hollenbeck, is the author of 8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers, the owner/curator of The Homeschool Resource Roadmap, and the co-owner of a homeschool-parent resource center in her community. She and her husband homeschooled their now-adult daughters from the beginning (birth!) through high school graduation. Tina really knows her stuff, but what I really love about 8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers, is the smarts. It's based on Dr. Kathy Koch's book The 8 Great Smarts and it really helps me to understand that all kids are created differently — different strengths and different weaknesses.

I know you're going to love this podcast with Tina!

I Grew with You

I Grew with You

I Grew With You is a delightful, new children's book that celebrates life. This is Sarah Molitor's first book, fulfilling a dream that she had from childhood. Sarah always loved writing and creativity, and it took a publisher reaching out to her to make that possible. The day that Sarah discovered she was pregnant with her sixth baby she also got the idea for this children's book ... which is a beautiful way to share the joys of pregnancy with children.

In this episode, we talk more about the "behind the scenes" of book writing. We also share about following the dreams that God puts inside each of our hearts. And, as real-life moms, we also share the struggles of parenting ... and where we find hope!

I know you're going to be inspired!
