DEMETER - Factors Impacting the Adoption of Smart Technology in the Agriculture Sector

In this webinar, Grainne Dilleen, PhD student and Communications and Dissemination Manager of DEMETER, presents her research to date. Funded by the DEMETER project, Grainne is undertaking a PhD to determine the farmer's decision-making process when adopting smart farming technologies (SFT). These technologies have been identified as a means of increasing agricultural sustainability. However, the SFT adoption rate on EU farms is lower than other markets. In her presentation, Grainne outlines the main internal and external factors which impact farmers' adoption of such SFT.

Online Research Seminar – Gladiator

This webinar focuses on the GLADIATOR project. GLADIATOR envisions to establish a radical long-term vision leading to a drastic change in cancer monitoring and therapy. It will usher in a paradigm shift in Oncology, with the introduction of "bio-nano-machine diagnostics", and stimulate the implementation of the "Internet of Nano-bio-things", leading to technological and clinical developments with high socioeconomic impact. In this project the role of the team at Walton Institute is to develop an end to end molecular communication system for inter-cellular communication among brain cells. It is expected that the project’s results will substantially improve patient prognosis and prolong survival by minimizing recurrences and reducing drug toxicity.

MELD Webinar December 2020

This episode focuses on the MELD project webinar which took place in December 2020. Walton's MELD project builds upon a trial for early lameness detection on a farm in South East Ireland, and extends and integrates this deployment into the IoF2020 Trials. Early lameness detection is a considerable problem in the dairy industry. It causes pain and discomfort for the cow, while lowering fertility and milk yield for the farmer. This trial deployed on a farm with 150 cattle, utilises leg mounted sensors and Machine Learning for early lameness detection.
