A non-profit organization incorporated in 2016 in response to the high incidence of sexual violence, rape and human trafficking occurring amongst young girls and women across Nigeria.

The Foundation was established to raise awareness and address the prevalence of this problem through the “WARIF Approach”- a unique holistic method of tackling Gender Based Violence through the development and implementation of a series of initiatives, under the Health, Education and Community service.

For the second quarter of the year 2023, had the amazing Eleanor Okubor. Eleanor Okubor is a Management Consultant focused on the Oil and Gas industry. She has significant upstream industry experience having worked in various capacities as a Drilling Engineer, Completions Engineer, offshore Drilling Supervisor, and Well Test Supervisor at Addax Petroleum, being responsible for multiple greenfield and brownfield drilling campaigns working in Nigeria and Switzerland while leading the implementation of several drilling operations cost optimization initiatives. Before pivoting to Management Consulting, Eleanor led the PSC Commercial and Economics team supporting strategic investment decisions at Addax Petroleum in Nigeria
Eleanor is also a certified yoga teacher (200hr YTT) and when she is not working, you can find her on her mat trying to practice equanimity.

Ms. Oluwaseunfunmi Arasi joined us for the September Episode of the WARIF Podcast. Ms. Arasi is a public health expert who mentors young people on reproductive health and gender-based violence. Her work spans community development, research, and evaluation and she is also a master facilitator and trainer. She has her first-degree a Psychology and holds a Master of Public Health in Population and Reproductive Health Education from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

Responding to Rape and Sexual Assault

For the month of August, we spoke to Dr. Aniekan Makanjuola. Dr. Aniekan is a medical doctor and an alumnus of the University of Benin. She joined the Women at risk international Foundation (WARIF) at its inception in 2016, as the head of the clinical service division, and later the center manager of the WARIF Rape Crisis Centre. In her capacity, she has provided medical treatment and forensic examination to survivors of rape and other forms of gender-based violence while ensuring prompt and quality service provision for these survivors. Dr. Aniekan has served as an expert witness in court in GBV-related cases, and she is also involved in community-based outreaches to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
