Warriors Den Episode 112 - Hafu go a Vancouver Based Youtuber who completed a 24 hour Military Krav Maga Bootcamp

Warriors Den Episode 112 - Hafu go a Vancouver Based Youtuber who completed a 24 hour Military Krav Maga Bootcamp

Excerpt: (Re: Advice for new YouTubers) Just do it.  Cliche question, cliche answer. No I'll get more specific. What advice? I think, I don't think, okay. My advice is, I think your first 20 videos are gonna be bad. That's my advice.

Hafu (Hafu Go) is a Vancouver-based, Canadian YouTuber with at the time of this episode released over 850,000 Subscribers. He wasn't satisfied with his time at school studying marketing and the direction of his life and decided to give becoming a YouTuber a chance. He originally started doing videos related to school with Campus crawls at some of the biggest schools like Harvard, Stanford, and UBC. When the pandemic hit he could no longer travel and changed to things he could do locally. His big break-out video was Surviving 24 Hours with a Shaolin Kung Fu Master. This leads him to reach out to other disciplines to do similar challenges. He reached out to us in May of 2022, when he had a little less than 500,000 subscribers to do a Krav Maga challenge. Warriors Den Host and Lead UTKM instructor Jonathan Fader convinced him to do a true 24 hour Military Krav Maga Bootcamp challenge which he accepted and we filmed in June of 2022. We all had a blast filming it but words cannot do justice so you will just have to watch the video. Hafu Go's Channel About Section states "People who subscribe to this channel are driven visionaries. Our motto is "GO BEYOND." I want to liberate you from the limitations of your own mind. Subscribe and join the Go Gang if you want to join us in bettering the world."

In this episode, we discuss Hafu's Journey on Youtube, Life, and even do a "Directors Cut" breakdown of the video. For audio-only listeners, you will need to go to Hafus Youtube Channel or watch the video on Spotify, Rumble, or Youtube to see what we are talking about.

Warriors Den Podcast Episode 106 - Sebastien Lavoie retired RCMP Sgt. Maj and Founder of Raven Strategic

Expert: (Re: his upcoming book) “Is essentially the pursuit of excellence in a 360 Degree world, and I mean a 360 degree scan around your, you know your own life. So, I’m pursing this goal to go to special operation. I’m pursing this goal to be the best in business, I’m pursing this goal. Everything has a cost and everything has an equal and opposite reaction. So how can we mitigate the cost with the pursuit of excellence in certain fields” -Sebastien

Episode 105 - Maj. Nadav Raz of the IDF, PTSD, Buddhism and Counter Terrorism

EXCERPT: For me, the one thing that first let me deal with depression was understanding the basics of Buddhist thought…so the basic tenants of Buddhist is that the world is suffering. And that is awesome, its like if your baseline is the world is suffering that’s a good philosophy for me to understand because I’m suffering.

Maj. Nadav Raz (IDF) has over 20+ years of Military and civilian training experience specializing in teaching Counter-Terrorism and intervention. Nadav started his military career like many Israelis in the Infantry advancing through the ranks and eventually, he was invited to help teach at the IDF counter-terrorism school and form a new division focused on counter-terror tactics for infantry units in civilian environments. After leaving the regular army service he began his reserve duty as an officer at the school for settlement protection and still spends several weeks/months a year teaching and training. During his time in the military, he was also exposed to an event where he was almost killed by an alleged ally with bullets just barely missing him after he had already spent several days under constant fire. Nadav traveled to Asia where he found Buddhism and other teachings that helped him deal with his depression and trauma. He now mostly teaches civilians how to arm and protect themselves and has developed a lecture called from Gaza to Buddha

In This episode, we talk about Nadav’s Military experience, time in Asia, Trauma, Depression, PTSD, Our philosophies, experiences and lives, with a little Counterterrorism to offer some Ying to the yang.

Episode 102 - Joel Garcia a Martial Artist and aspiring Actor originally from Venezuela

Excerpt: (On immigrating alone, life, and company of others and yourself): “You truly have to create your own family. You get used to coming and going, you have to really find a way to not depend on people coming and going. It allows me to be completely ok with being alone, we're social creatures, we need people. But I think that every one should be able to understand and know what it's like to be alone. If we don’t appreciate our own company how the f…, how are you going to enjoy fully someone else’s company? Because other wise it becomes co-dependent. It's one thing when I want to be with you because I like your company, but it's another one because I’m so scared of not having someone to talk to. Its different approaches and I feel like a lot of us are still in that kind of mindset."

Joel Garcia is a Martial Artist and Aspiring Actor originally from Venezuela. He left the now-failed state of Venezuela when he was a young adult through sports scholarships particularly Volleyball. Sport became Joel's path towards freedom and he eventually found Martial Arts starting with MMA. He has expanded his knowledge in Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Overall Self Defense. Episode 98 - Blog post series - The Awareness Colour Code Self Defense and Mental Health

Episode 98 - Blog post series - The Awareness Colour Code Self Defense and Mental Health

This episode is a blog post series discussing the Mental Colour code and its application in both literal physical self defense and mental health. At UTKM it is very much believed that self defense is not just physical and too often we can focus too much on the groin strikes and throat punches that good self defense is very much about balance which includes both the internal and external aspects. Several years ago UTKM adopted and slightly modified the Colour code developed by Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper and it has been an integral part of our Self Defense and Krav Maga approach ever since. One must understand its application to literal self defense, to personal mental health and Mindfulness as well as how it connects to our nervous system and its various reactions. Understanding this is key to a happy and healthy life and one where you have truly learned to walk in peace.

Episode 96 - Hugo is a UTKM Yellow Belt, Programmer and Founder of People Ensuring Animal Care Exists

Excerpt: "How I like to Approach it, that is that is we need to be acquainted with violence and how it functions in order to have a proper relationship with it. Not that your going to be like you know just tossing and becoming a more violent and more aggressive person but you need to have a relationship to it. So, you know that's the same thing with uh, if we are talking firearms, ...that's a thing in Buddhist...philosophy, there's a notion called weapons principle. If somebody is standing there.. brandishing a sword hold it high in the sky, like you know people are going to react in turn, there is a certain energy to it. So its like relating to that, lets rather have a relationship to it rather than just shying away."

Hugo is a UTKM Yellow belt who ironically found Krav Maga through his Buddhist meditative practices with the Shambala Buddhist organization. Originally from South Africa he moved to Canada as a teenager and eventually found his way into programming where he works with Activision. When he got involved in the Shambhala organization he also became involved in the Droje Kasung which is the security and training division of the organization to protect its self, its teachers, and practitioners from unwanted harm. He and his wife also founded the Not for Profit Organization People Ensuring Animal Care Exist or P.E.A.C.E to help find safe haven and sanctuary for animals particularly of the Farm Variety. In this episode, we discuss his Buddhist practices and philosophies, Martial Arts, Use of Force, Veganism, Ethics and morality, and much more as we discuss the quandaries of what it means to be human.

Episode 95 - Aaron Philip University Colleague and Hopeful soon to be Lawyer

Excerpt: "I think that there is a role that social media is playing in this. Which shines a light in weaknesses in our democracy in a very unhelpful way. Umm, so social media creates these easily manipulated narratives which allow us to inflate emotions and subvert, umm, dialogue and discussion like you and I are having right now. In particular was his involvement in the Model UN where he even traveled globally to participate in larger Mock UN Events. Episode 87 – Blogpost series – Doomed to Repeat?

This is a Blog post series Episode based on the Series doomed to repeat by UTKM assistant Instructor Petra Foerster. You can listen to Episode 85 if you want to learn more about Petra and her perspective. The purpose of the series was originally to compare Petra's experience growing up in East Germany and the Fall of the USSR and to give you perspective on some of the similarities between the authoritarian regimes of old and the directions that many governments have been trending in recently. In this episode, your host Jonathan Fader discusses Authoritarianism in all its forms from communism, Fascism, and yes even socialism. The mask that Authoritarians wear is irrelevant as the end result is an oppressed and suppressed population. We must learn from the past to prevent the follies of then from happening again. The purpose of this podcast is simply to give you perspective regardless of whether or not you agree with the conclusions or sentiment as true knowledge and truth can only be found with an open mind and a willingness to change it.

Episode 83 - Ron Rotem is a Top Israeli Krav Maga Instructor who has intimate knowledge of Krav Maga History, It's approach and Politics

Exerpt: "Krav Maga builds out of two subjects. Self Defense which is the main subject. And hand-to-hand combat, with time Krav Maga became very very good at the self-defense... but it became, maybe the hand-to-hand combat section was a little bit neglected. But we know self-defense very good." -Ron Rotem Ron is referring  Boxing, Kickboxing, wrestling, Judo, MMA with regards to hand-to-hand combat, Or as UTKM would consider the skills needed for a back and forth fight.

Ron Rotem is a Top Israeli Krav Maga Instructor and Black Belt who has taught in all aspects of Israeli Life from the IDF, Prison System, and Civilians. His start in Krav Maga was very much like something out of a Hong Kong Fight movie where a would-be street fight ended up in a pursuit where Ron found himself in the others Krav Maga Gym. The then Instructor told them to put gloves on and fight. Though it did not happen Ron found him staying and ended up moving up the ranks eventually becoming an assistant instructor under Eli Avikzar one of Imi's top students. This led him to be a Black Belt prior to his IDF Service where he served in an Anti-Guerilla Unit. There he was introduced to Military style Krav Maga which was quite different than his Civilian Experience. From there he became the head of the training for the Israeli Prison System which was also quite different. These differences lead Ron to begin researching the history of Krav Maga and which is now his lifelong passion. Ron is the Admin of the Facebook group Krav Maga History and culture which has well over 10,000 members. In this podcast, we discuss the history of Krav Maga, Krav Maga Principles, Concepts, and approaches as well as our own teaching Philosophies.

Ron now runs his own school Israeli Krav Maga Institute.

Kip has a BSc from UBC in computer sciences with a focus on Artificial intelligence and has even found himself working with groups like NASA. He spent time in the Canadian Armed Forces, finishing as an officer at a time when it was no longer a good fit for him. Additionally, he learned various classical European sword styles to broaden his combat knowledge. In this podcast, we discuss the legal action against the government (but due to ongoing litigation our discussion was limited), his veganism, science and technology, environmentalism, martial arts, military service, and our general thoughts and philosophies. The goal of this podcast was to show you who Kip is, as there have already been attempts to smear his personal character publicly as he garners a lot more support than certain groups would like.

Additionally, I would like to add here the quote read at the intro from Naval Ramikant:

“Believe in science” is an oxymoron

Naval: Welcome, Brett, to the eponymous Naval podcast. The topic that we started out on was the timeless principles of wealth creation. And then we touched a little bit on internal happiness and peace and well-being.I’m first and foremost a student of science. I’m a failed physicist, in the sense that I loved physics, I wanted to pursue it, but I never felt I was going to be great at it. I was more pulled into technology, which is applied science. Nevertheless, I remain a student of science. I remain fascinated by it. All of my real heroes are scientists because I believe science is the engine that pulls humanity forward. We’re lucky to live in an age when scientific and technological progress seem not likely, but inevitable. We’ve gotten used to the idea that life always gets better. Despite all the complaining about how productivity growth is stagnant, the reality is, anyone who owns a smartphone or drives a car, or even lives in a house has seen technology improve their quality of life over and over again. We take this progress for granted, and it’s thanks to science. To me, science is also the study of truth. What do we know to be true? How do we know something to be true? As I get older, I find myself incapable of having an attention span for anything that isn’t steeped in the truth. The background of this particular podcast series is that I thought I knew a lot about science. And there was a lot about science that I took for granted, such as what a scientific theory is and how scientific theories are formed. Most of us have a vague idea of it. Some people think science is what scientists do, which has a definitional problem. What is a scientist? Other people think science is making falsifiable or testable predictions, and maybe that’s closer to it. Sometimes people say, “It’s the scientific method.” And what is the scientific method? And then they start describing their junior high school chemistry experiment and lose the trail after that. Especially these days, when we’re told to “believe in science”—which is an oxymoron—people respect science, but they don’t understand what science is. The idea of what science is gets hijacked, sometimes by well-meaning people who want to convince you of the science and sometimes by not so well-meaning people who want to influence the way that you think and feel and act. ” – Naval Ramikant

Though it was not intended this episode ends up being quite dense as a variety of studies are read to back how various aspects of how mood can measurably or otherwise affect your mood and our performance. Music can be used to enhance your mood or keep you in a less desirable mental state. Regardless of the result, it can be safely assumed that most people enjoy music in their life.
