Episode 83: The Resiliency of Divorced, but NOT denied, Dad Dwight Scott
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of divorced, but not denied, dad Dwight Scott! Dwight is a retired US Air Force Security Forces member AND a former teamie of mine when we served as Military Training Instructors together. Dwight retired from the military to focus on his growing family and to allow the dust of the battle rhythm to settle, only to find himself struggling alongside his wife. Separated and living apart, Dwight was taken to court for child support, unknowingly having to represent himself against a well-educated attorney his estranged wife had hired. The attorney questioned his character, the quality of service to our country and his role as a father. Life became overly complicated quickly, but foundational things remained constant… Dwight’s dedication to God and God’s love for Dwight.
Always focused on personally developing those around him, Dwight put pen to paper to write some of the most amazing, heartfelt words I have ever read. In his book The Armed Forces Devotional Guide to a Fulfilling Career Dwight wrote: “A military career is about sacrificing and protecting the freedom and liberties of those around you. How can you continue the drive to accomplish the mission while having an internal force that can prevent burnout? The answer is this: by renewing your spirit and allowing God's power in all aspects of your life. Many military members understand how to improve their physical fitness or gain education through classes, but how do we gain spiritual fitness...The uniform we wear is indeed the fabric of our nation; however, we neglect the stitching that holds it all together--our heavenly Father.” Dwight is turning his pain into God’s glory by writing a currently untitled devotional for divorcees...till then you can find his current books at the links provided below:

Episode 81: The Resiliency of Ghost Helper Tina Erwin
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Ghost Helper Tina Erwin. Tina is passionate about being a "Ghost Helper." Her mission is to teach the living how to help the dead. She wants to empower everyone to help any ghost they may find. Tina says that this is the compassion we will all want for ourselves.
Tina has studied metaphysics all of her life, gaining insight into the mystical world of spirituality. She is the author of eight books on metaphysics. Her writing comes from an intense desire to know and understand the hard science behind the unseen world of action and reaction combined with a sincere desire to share this understanding with other knowledge seekers.
Ghosts just seem to find Tina. It's as if she’s a "ghost magnet." In every single case, Tina says that these ghosts are looking for help and they tell her why they didn't cross over; they tell her their stories. She assists these souls by crossing them into the Heaven World. When a psychic only connects to a dead person, the ghost does not receive the critical assistance they desperately need.
Her lifelong studies into the deeper meaning of events and actions were further enhanced by the experiences of a dynamic 20-year career in the Navy, working for the U.S. Submarine Force, retiring at the Commander level. Commander Erwin found the Navy to be a tremendous schoolhouse in which to study all the facets of behavior and karma, from the worst to the finest levels of humanity. She has a Master’s Degree in Business and Management.
You can find all of her books on AMAZON.COM You can learn more about Tina at TinaErwin.com and GhostHelpers.com

Episode 78: The Resiliency of Tony Robbins' Firewalk Captain, Dave Albin!
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Tony Robbins’ Firewalk Captain Dave Albin! Dave is the #1 Firewalk Instructor in America. Firewalking is a 1,000 year old rite of passage ritual where you literally walk across hot burning coals. Having worked for Tony Robbins for 19+ years and starting Firewalk Productions in 2014 Dave has firewalked hundreds of thousands of people. He and Tony Robbins set a World Record in London in 2005 walking over 12,300 people.
Dave Albin was born in 1954 at Queen of Angels Hospital in Hollywood, California to a single mother. He was adopted by his Aunt & Uncle on his mother’s side at the age of 5. His adoptive parents told Dave they were not his parents at the age of 11. Later that year both his adoptive parents started drinking. This is where Dave’s life took a hard turn. Dave tried alcohol at the age of 11. By the time he was 14 he was experimenting with hard drugs. Grossly addicted to drugs and alcohol he joined AA some 20 years later in June 1988.
This is when Dave was introduced to the personal development industry. He attended a seminar with Tony Robbins in 1995 where he did his first firewalk. Dave went on to work for Tony Robbins for just shy of 20 years as Tony’s Firewalk Captain. Dave retired from the Anthony Robbins Companies in 2014 shortly after GOOGLE hired him to put on an event for them. Firewalk Productions, LLC was born in 2014.

Episode 76: The Resiliency of "We Don't Want You, Uncle Sam" Author Matthew Weiss
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of “We Don’t Want You, Uncle Sam” author Matthew Weiss!! Matthew went from Defense Contractor to an Intelligence Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He holds a BS and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Most importantly, he is a member of Generation Z who cares deeply about solving this issue of service.
Recently his first book was released called “WevDon’t Want YOU, Uncle Sam” and sits as a best-seller on Amazon (www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDF7Z32K/). The all-volunteer force that has served our country well for more than 50 years is at a critical inflection point. Today, recruiters are struggling to bring enough Zoomers into the armed services. Mismatched fundamental ideals, divergent beliefs about the workplace, and other sociocultural influences have contributed to the United States military scrambling to get a grasp on how to appeal to Gen Z.
Through the use of personal life stories and macro analysis, this book explains why military recruiting in the United States is at an all-time low in order to suggest ways that American society and its leaders can fix this issue. We must rebuild the value proposition of military service by demonstrating the benefits of the world’s greatest physical social network.

The film chronicles the history and culture of Christian Hip Hop in the 1980s/1990s and how it has affected the culture of today’s millennial Christian Hip Hop movement. The foundational word that he carries with him as a reminder of his call to the millennial generation is for them to “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come. And the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). He has lived this passage as a young man in ministry and entertainment, which placed him on some of the largest platforms in the Christian music industry as a dancer/choreographer for Carman, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and Tonex. So, he understands what it takes to get a vision from God as a young person in order to seek after the purpose and destiny for his life.

Episode 74: Addicted. Imprisoned. Advocate. The Resiliency of Prison Artist Elizabeth Mikotowicz
***It says Episode 77, but we wanted to get it out sooner***
The Resiliency of Prison Artist Elizabeth Mikotowicz!! In her 20's she barely survived a very violent relationship; she was assaulted with a wooden dowel so bad you could see her skull. Drs gave her opioids, but when she refused, they threatened her w/child protective services because she was unknowingly pregnant and refusing medical advice. She was told she was on too small a dose to get addicted. Eventually she went to a shelter but was turned away, because her injury was too severe. She survived only because drug dealers helped her. Eventually, she went to federal prison for a nonviolent drug charge where she endured and witnessed so much institutional abuse, corruption, systemic racism, and cruelty; sometimes waking up screaming. But, she turned it all around and launched an environmentally friendly clothing brand.
She has advocated and fought for legislation to be passed for the good of the people. She's letting the world know what America "land of the free" is doing to its incarcerated population, the highest in the world. She's exposing other systemic abuse and corruption effecting Americans every day. She's sharing her healing journey and what she's learned about her own trauma and mental health.
5 years ago she was painting murals as a federal inmate, now Elizabeth has her own art shows. Prison opened her eyes to the systemic racism, cruelty, corruption, and inequality in this country. Now she exposes what she witnessed and endured to advocate legislation. Her women's clothing brand has helped her healing journey, and wants to help people from all walks of life do the same. Check out her website for her clothing: http://www.legaleriste.com/en/Elizabeth.mikotowicz

Episode 73: The Resiliency of UPS Global / Exec Coach Steve Turner
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of UPS Management
Team Member Steve Turner!! Steve is COO of Beyond Resilience LLC and President of Flow Business Solution. He joined ‘Beyond Resilience’ because his values and approaches to leading employees resonate with their objectives. “We have an opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of business leadership throughout any organization.” Steve graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Business Administration. This, along with his appreciation and respect for UPS, where he was on the management team while attending college, launched his business career on a leadership journey of success.
Steve has a proven 35-year career with UPS. He provided leadership in the diverse environments of Operations, Finance & Accounting, and Technology at District, Region, and Corporate levels. This included five years in Europe at the beginning of UPS’ global expansion, where he was a Finance Director with responsibilities in 10 countries. His responsibilities in the countries he covered globally solidified an important fact... cultures change, hearts do not. No matter where he went, he experienced the same reality. Employees will follow those who care about them, train them for success and appreciate who they are as individuals. His dedication to the individual lives of his employees and the value they provided in his business groups yielded him success in every position he held. He demonstrated the value of leading employees as opposed to managing them. “Systems, processes, and procedures should be managed. Employees should be led.”

Episode 71: The Resiliency of EveryWarrior.org's Trey McGuire!!
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of EveryWarrior.org’s
Trey McGuire!! Prior to 2014, Trey began noticing a trend, and that trend was unacceptable to him. Serving in a local church, Trey worked hand in hand with young adults of our area. The more service members he met, the more he noticed that our Warriors were alone, isolated, and, sometimes, forgotten. That hole was something that he set out to fill.
Over the years, a tight knit group of Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines alongside Trey set their sights on filling what was missing with a makeshift extended "family". Out of that small "family" of brothers, the first Warrior's Thanksgiving Feast was born, as a way to make sure our local Warriors were not alone at Thanksgiving. From that November 2014 night, the idea of a non-profit organization was born.

Episode 69: The Resiliency of IED Survivor Shane Vincent
***Special 4th of July Edition***
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of IED Survivor Shane Vincent! May 24th, 2007, former BMX Olympic superstar, Shane Vincent’s Cavalry troop was headed back from a seemingly routine mission in Iraq when his Humvee tripped a wire which was connected to a roadside improvised explosive device. The IED was built to eliminate a tank but flipped his Humvee over 100 feet into the air, flipping countless times before finally crashing into the ground. As the twisted heap of metal smoldered, Shane was thought dead with a broken neck, back, jaw, and pelvis. Placed into a medically-induced coma, Shane had no memory of the explosion. He woke several weeks later stuttering, confused, and disoriented.
This 4th of July edition finds us looking at the resilience of a true American hero as we discuss the fight and battle after “the battle”. Inspiring does NOT start to describe this conversation and the courage of Shane and his family. Shane’s fight back embodies The Warrior Ethos: “I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit!”

THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of American Gladiator Deron “MALIBU” McBee! He is an actor and sportsman, known best as Malibu on American Gladiators and for playing Motaro in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Deron toured the professional racquetball circuit for three years.
Daron was a gladiator on the TV series American Gladiators, performing under the name Malibu. He appeared in both the TV series and returned several years later for the live tour! He was known for his blond hair, tanned skin, and surfer persona. Deron walks out this experience in ESPN Film’s 30-For-30 ‘American Gladiators documentary’. Such a detailed look, it took 2-hour long episodes.
As an actor, Daron has been cast in action movies where he was often asked to use fighting skills and often portrayed villain roles. To help develop his skills, Daron trained in the art of karate at the famed Billy Blanks World Karate Studio, and hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship with Anthony De Longis. He states that he has produced his impressive physique by abstaining from steroids and using a combination of prayer and faith.
From chasing his father’s love, affection, and attention, losing his wife to a heart attack, to surviving multiple injuries and ultimately leading to an addiction to pain killers, Deron opens up to us in a very vulnerable conversation. Deron’s resilience has been molded by his love for God and the relationship he continues to grow each and every day.

Episode 65: The Resilience of Investigated and Arrested Lt Col (Ret) Jason Pike
Starting from the bottom, as a private, and working his way through the ranks, Pike tells his story with wicked whit and shows us the price he paid for his service - as well as a glimpse into the adventure of life in the Army, including 9 years of living overseas.
Diagnosed at age seven with an acute learning disability and failing first grade that year, Jason Pike was sent back to repeat it. At age nine, he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a crippling bone disease dissolving the bone of his knee that added to his academic challenges and a significant physical disadvantage.
With more than three decades of national guard and active service, after starting his military career at seventeen and retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was told that none of it would be possible. For that advice, there were indeed excellent grounds. His story, therefore, is one of survival, perseverance, and a refusal to quit, no matter what, a characteristic gifted to him by his father. Once he did it, everyone asked, "how the hell did you do it?" And many times, he had asked himself the same question…
In A Soldier Against All Odds, Jason Pile shows that It is possible, through determination, careful application, and bold strategy, to overcome or compensate for personal humiliation brought about primarily by his own mistakes, being haunted by investigations, academic difficulty, arrests, many ass-chewings, and physical frailty. He did pay the price for being himself. This is how he did it, but most importantly, how he survived it.
Despite these facts, Jason refuses to brag, refuses to portray any sort of pretentiousness, and refuses to call himself a hero. “The heroes are the ones, who didn’t come home,” he says. “Now, let me tell you about another time I managed not to die by doing something stupid.” Indeed, the mental image of Jason attempting to escape from a hole filled with animal feces in South Korea, his electrocution in the doorway of an airplane, running from a police helicopter after burning trash illegally, nearly breaking his legs after faulty parachute jump, and being stabbed in ROTC are just a few Pike stories that are listed in the book.
Regardless of what he has experienced for good or ill, Jason’s jovial sense of humor and desire to teach others to believe in oneself persists.

Now using several techniques, she has learned how to allow healing to anyone as long as they are ready. The physical body is the result of vibrations that are inherent within each of us but also picked up from people and the environment around us.

Episode 56: The Resiliency of Second Generation Holocaust Survivor Max Friedman
As for journalism, Max attended Berkeley and got a master’s, but became impatient with journalism as a profession. He turned in his press pass while freelancing features and book reviews and sampling other writing jobs. Max worked for five years at WNET/13 (PBS) as a publicist for Bill Moyers' Journal and other programs, and then was responsible for editorial projects at the station. He spent the next 20 years learning about pharmaceuticals and writing about patients and scientists as head of communications at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Corporate life can have its ups and downs. So, when they told him to fire half his staff, he asked to be put on the list as well.
Most recently, Max spent five years researching and writing "Painful Joy", part memoir, part biography, part genealogical mystery, a story focused primarily on his parents, who somehow survived the camps and tried to restart their lives. It was a difficult and painful journey till the end. Like so many other survivors, they spoke very little about their past, though the horrors they survived were always apparent. So, he decided to finally find out more, about who they once were and what they might have become, and about their survival and its aftereffects. It turned out that their story was more complicated, more compelling, more heartwarming and heartbreaking than anyone could ever imagine. And as to the little they did tell their children, Max discovered that they were mostly
reimaginings of some complicated realities. He came to understand better the effects of their survival on his very own existence - and indeed on broader
themes that their lives and journeys reflected.

Episode 50: The Resiliency of Vin Infante
Episode 50... wow!!!!
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Vin Infante, COVID era FDNY firefighter, mental health worker, and a master mindset coach (or I prefer mindset ‘Ninja’). His skillset helps people achieve mastery over their mindsets to live a more aligned and powerful life.
During this episode, Vin and I have an amazingly uncharacteristically hilarious conversation covering resilience in many facets of his life. From suffering crippling anxiety, panic attacks and suicidal depression while studying mental health in college to gaining experience as a licensed psychotherapist. He chose to stop practicing and instead pursue a life-long dream by becoming a firefighter with the city of New York. But, fulfillment had not been achieved and was still an arm’s length away. Vin’s Mindset Coaching business, (www.vincentinfante.life), was born. Certified under Tony Robbins’ RMT training program, Vin now has been featured in Forbes, NY Weekly, International Business Times and Entrepreneur Magazine.

Episode 48: The Resiliency of BRiX HQ founder and CEO Julio Caceres
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of BRiX HQ founder and CEO Julio Caceres. Julio and his team discovered that over 11 million American owned 1 to 2 rental properties, but do not have the right insurance in place and force them into 2 choices; continue on their own or they can sell the entire property and get out. But there is another way…using equity from investors to fund properties and remain as part-owners. Brix allows investors to buy and/or sell a fraction of a property. The fractionalization of real estate is a newly crafted investment opportunity for new or seasoned investors.
Julio and I sit down for an amazing conversation about his definition of spiritual resilience and how it manifests through him as he builds his company. As BRiX continues navigating the capital formation stage of business, he must maintain a high level of resilience with heavy weight upon his shoulders. This episode concludes our series called “New Year, New Money.”

Episode 45: The Resiliency of Suicide Survivor Caryn Braham
During this episode, Caryn and I discuss her definition of resilience as suicide survivor. “If I’m honest, resilience, at times, looks like finding reasons not to stay socially isolated and in bed for most of the day (work, husband, kids…). Other days I could jump out of bed and wrestle a lion and someone else’s wild animal of adversity (for them). I love people, and I love to help people. So if my life could resemble more of that, I’d find that resilient Caryn more often!”

Episode 41: The Resiliency of Dr. Victor Manzo
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of Dr. Vic Manzo. Before going into Business and Mindset Coaching, Dr. Vic was a Chiropractor for the past 11 years and within the last 5 years, he was a specializing as a Pediatric Chiropractor. Like many others, he was taught to work hard, grind, hustle, put in the sweat equity, sacrificing time, money health and family and just continue doing, chasing dreams and eventually, one day, it will all be worth it. But, there came a moment in life where he realized this was not the only way to a desired life, nor to achieving success and so much more.
Dr. Vic was tired from being burnt out every 4-6 months. He was tired of not feeling satisfied with my success and the massive impact in his community. Dr. Vic felt unfulfilled. He decided to stop DOING and start focusing on the BEING side of things.
Dr. Vic had studied 10-12 different techniques on energy healing which taught him more than just the healing arts. It taught him spirituality, studying Universal Laws, while learning more on how quantum physics is showing how consciousness affects physical matter. He started to look into his own limiting beliefs, the power of the subconscious, how his mind was programmed from an early age and understand the power of reframing one’s mind.
Dr. Vic ended up working less, making more, leading a more fulfilled and soul-filled life. Every aspect of life transformed to higher and higher levels.
He has now learned how to construct the ‘future self’ and utilize the science and ancient wisdom to achieve that. Now Dr. Vic has taught this process to 100s of business owners in 22 different professions and 4 different countries.

Episode 40: The Resiliency of Kinesiologist and author Amanda Kate
During this episode, Kate and I have a rather humorous and compelling conversation about her take on spiritual resilience. She explains her journey in seeking to regain the missing portions of ‘self’ and what that looked like. Kate takes us on the journey to healing she endured from naturopaths, Chinese doctors, chiropractors and psychologists. Her emotionally abusive marriage had damaged her, and she wasn’t ready to let it beat her anymore. Additionally, Kate explains to us her training as a kinesiologist, and no, it doesn’t mean the same thing in every country…she’ll explain it better. (lol)
She is a Spiritual Seeker, a truth teller, and her inner Sage has an insatiable quest for knowledge, wisdom, and new ways of becoming.

Episode 37: The Resiliency of ‘Possibility in Action’ Coach Robert Pardi
THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: The Resiliency of ‘Possibility in Action’ Coach Robert Pardi. Robert’s journey started during his childhood and the complicated relationship he had with his alcoholic father. These skillsets were blended to form his life philosophy of “Possibility in Action" and drove him to author three books.
During this episode, Robert and I discuss how he defines Spiritual Resilience in all aspects of his life. Additionally, he introduces us to the love of his life, The woman who would become his wife, Desiree. Roberts navigates us through how two different paths: his finance journey in Abu Dhabu and how Desiree excelled in the MD/Ph.D program at Mt. Sinai of New York City. That news, and the aftereffects led Robert down a path of rediscovery and purpose.
