Jonas Vingegaard continued to show his impressive form on the final mountain day of an enthralling edition of the Tour de France. Stage 18 finished with the legendary Hautacam climb where Jonas Vingegaard took a big leap towards the overall victory by putting more than a minute into Tadej Pogačar. The Dane did not break his compatriot Bjarne Riis’ record time (34:41) but still did the fastest climbing time since Lance Armstrong in 2000.

Wout Van Aert made a big mistake at the end of the Criterium du Dauphine stage 3, celebrating too early. David Gaudu at the last moment surprised him and won the stage. Giro d'Italia stage 16 was the most difficult day for the climbers so far in this Giro. The stage was one by Czech climber Jan Hirt, who outclimbed on the steep Santa Cristina climb Thymen Arensman, taking a big win from a breakaway. Meanwhile in the GC group Mikel Landa, Jai Hindley and Richard Carapaz all finished together. They all broke Santa Cristina's record, improving Marco Pantani's time from the 1994 Giro by 9 seconds.
