What should I play next week?
It really happened! The gang sat down and chatted with music legend Jon Butcher for an extended conversation about the Boston music scene in the 80's, having dinner with guitar gods, and the perils of 80's facial hair fashions. All that and Jon and Allen Estes sit down and play some songs from Jon's vast catalog! Not to be missed!
Vinyl Vault listeners! We pulled together a great show this week with a variety of music that you know well and a nice mix of music that you may not be familiar with. My good friend, Alex, joined me to spin records and banter about the music. She frequently joins me to see live shows here in the DC metro region.
Life has been crazy here at The Vinyl Vault, Thanksgiving coupled with RSD Black Friday, so it took us a bit longer than usual to upload the recording. We are getting ready to move the Radio Studio Apartment to a new cozier location this week. The next show will be live from the new location.
Our next show will be December 18 and will include an assortment of holiday music to get you in the mood. I love the jazz holiday classics, but this will be strictly rock music, mostly alternative and indie.
We hope you enjoy the show!
What a treat! Listen in as the gang sits down with Sal Baglio, the driving force behind The Stompers and more recently The Amplifier Heads! It's a great time chatting about the Boston music scene in the 70's and 80's, the BU riot, the rise of the Rat, and much more! Sal then honors us with some songs from his vast catalog of music including an one of a kind take on The Stompers classic "All I Want For Christmas Is A Rock N Roll Guitar". Don't miss this one kids!
Hello, Vinyl Vault listeners! We’ve got a great show for you this week. Corbin from Live From the Fallout Shelter was our special guest and we listened to a variety of music including our special featured recording artist, Olivia Jean. Show correction, Leonard Cohen indeed passed away in 2016 and his most recent album released November 22 was released posthumously. Leonard Cohen, we miss you. Enjoy the show!
Check out this show as the gang is joined by the premiere Black Crowes tribute band, Amoricans!! They hang out and chat about the Crowes reunion, playing in a tribute band, how set lists get made, and then perform 4 great amazing songs. If you weren't an Black Crowes fan before you will be now!
The gang is joined by New England Music Award winning artist Natalie Jolie for some lively conversation about making her own music, owning her own brand image, and why The Voice sucks! She also sits down and plays her NEMA winning Song Of The Year "You Outghta Know" and other fantastic originals! Later in the show the gang chats about the decline of Western Civilization personified in the announcement of the loss of Friendly's ice cream in stores. All that and great music you just won't hear on corporate radio! We are Internet Radio for the Cassette Generation!
Listen in as the gang renews their annual debate over the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Who should be in? Who shouldn't? They also speak with Zane Lewis from Bikers Against Bullies USA, a fantastic anti-bullying outreach program. The interns whip up a Dead or Canadian quiz for the gang as well.
The Vinyl Vault is pleased to bring to you our second installment of our scrappy little show. JC welcomed Bill Daly (Insurgence DC, Crooked Beat Records) onto the show this week. We discussed Insurgence DC, upcoming shows, and he shared some great stories about musicians that have visited and worked at Crooked Beat Records in the past. The music was a mix of old and new rock music, some familiar and some nuggets that we wanted to introduce you to. Plenty of Michigan and DC artists were in the mix. As a new show, we still have some kinks to iron out - our sound engineer had a few flubs (that's JC) and our program manager needs to keep the show on track with time (also JC). We also learned that the recording continues even if the show runs out of time. It's a fun little show. Enjoy!
We successfully launched our new show on October 23! Special guests this week were Billy Joel and Scout from our sister show, Live From The Fallout Shelter. We played an eclectic mix of rock music of all flavors including a nod to Halloween with a few "spooky" tracks. Head to our Facebook page for the playlist! Just search for The Vinyl Vault - WaveRadio Boston. Throw us a like on our Facebook page to get updates for upcoming shows or follow us on Instagram @jc_thevinylvault and Twitter @JcVault. Enjoy the show and feel free to leave a comment .
It's a celebration of the 2nd Anniversary of the first internet broadcast of WaveRadio Boston. We also interview Chris Porter the Founder of The Town and The City music festival coming up on 10/18 & 10/19.
The gang is joined by Lowell area veterans Eddy Dyer and Hal Holiday from the band Dyer Holiday for a sit down to chat about heading into the studio, writing music together, and their experiences with the evolution of the Lowell music scene. Then they blow us away with originals "Together & Broken", "3 Shots" & "Believe In Heaven"...I'm not crying you're crying... Amazing stuff! Pete, John Anthony, and Becka Lee re-group enough to sit down with Tom Rossi and Kevin Meaney from Vyntyge Skynyrd. Great stories from the road and we even find out how they connected with Ronnie Van Zant's boyhood friend and later bodyguard Gene Odom! There's even some time for the gang to chat with superfan JP in a quickie roundtable about who portrayed the Joker the best.
Scout returns! The gang celebrates the music of those we lost so far in 2019. They talk about death…. a lot. In uncomfortable terms.
Dedicated to the memory of Jimmy. Please consider donating to the ALS society. http://www.alsa.org/donate/
What an amazingly fun show! We spend the entire show with Justin Martin and Alex Simpson from Sons Lunaris. We talk influences, blues, the Lowell music scene, and lots and lots of rice pilaf! They also sit down and take us onboard a southbound blues train down to the Delta. What a fun time!
Lots happening in this one! Malcolm Collins and Chris Murphy join the gang in studio to promote the Giving Back fundraiser for the DV Farm Fund. We later chat with Pat Gochez from our September Artist of the Month, The Hats. We chat about the band, the new album "Chemical Drippers", and their upcoming UK tour. We also salute the music stalwarts who went to Congress and stood up against labeling. The entire show is peppered with music produced\played\influenced by the late Ric Ocasek as well.
The gang delves deep into the English language examining the origins of your favorite idioms. There is also a new Mixedup Mashup with a common thread to figure out. Plus a world premiere of a new song from our September Artist of the Month The Hats
Things get crazy in the studio as the gang selects their Fantasy Rock Band via a draft. We premier a song from our Irish pals The Floats. We also hear from our September Artist of the Month - The Hats and the premier of the first cut off their upcoming album Chemical Drippers, available for pre-order now.
Corbin and Billy Joel re-imagine the Woodstock Music Festival with their own deranged take. Meanwhile, Stormin’ Norman returns from his hiatus and the boys are joined by special guest JC, who adequately performs her intern duties…
Another wild one in the books. It all started quite innocently with our interview with Mike Doherty and his daughter Sadie, hearing about their trials tribulations, and ultimate perseverance and unreal strength of spirit. We also learn how these seemingly mild mannered folks fell in with friends of the show The Crazy Bitches. It's a heart warming story, and we're honored to help out. About the time Mike whisks Sadie home things take a turn. The gang and The CB's, Randy Randy and The Kengenie do a few rounds of an adult party game known as Dirty Minds and things really go off the rails. In a surprise to no one, everyone has a dirty mind and mouth. Not one for the kiddies!
Corbin and Billy Joel are left to their own devices in the Fall Out shelter. As expected great music ensues, but the banter is sub-par. The boys attempt a game of is it an Onion article or real news, discuss their workout routines and wax nostalgic on early aught punk — but mainly miss Scout.
Another fun time as the gang is visited by Malcolm Collins drummer extraordinaire for The Amoricans to promote their upcoming show on 8/10 at The Boathouse in Dracut, MA with Victim of Circumstance. We chat about the joys and challenges of being in a tribute band. We also discuss the WaveCrashers concerts last weekend, boy was it busy! In a Special Announcement we break the internet by announcing that our newest show to be added to the WaveRadio Boston line-up is none other than Bottoms Up : Appetite For Discussion with host Ashley Bottoms every Monday from 7-9pm!! Ashley calls in and we formulate our plans for internet radio domination! In the midst of this Pete gets pulled into the Number Neighbor phenomenon, and the gang runs with it and gets a new fan! All of that and a ton of great cover songs by artists you know covering other artists you know! Weird, right?!?
It was an groundbreaking show for the gang as they hosted their first live band in the studio. TP & The Instigators came in, sat down and chatted about their 21 years in the music scene, we played some songs from their new album "The Long Road" and then they played a couple of acoustic tunes live in our studios! Great night! Super band!
Corbin is back! And he’s ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing with the gang. Scout provides her update on the local concert scene, and Smokey calls in to provide some chemically induced insights
Only Scout and Billy Joel made it to the shelter this week. Scout provided a report on her excursion to Burger Boogaloo and even brought back some music to play! Witty banter ensued….Including the revelation of worst first dates and Billy Joel’s complete ignorance on the Black Keys - Junior Kibrough connection.
Pete, John Anthony, and Becka Lee are joined by a cast of dozens as they christen the new studio with a heck of a show. The gang spends some great time chatting with boyhood friend and later bodyguard of Ronnie Van Zant , Gene Odom. Gene has some amazing stories about Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ronnie! Tony Thomas from The 50's Experience drops by and shocks the team with his connections to the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Pete hosts a Superfan Showdown of some of the shows biggest fans in a trivia contest to see who the biggest First Wave fan really is. This was a great time.

The gang also runs down the just released The Town and The City Festival artist line-up, some great surprises! Uncle Henry shows up to let the gang know what is Free For The Takin'

Mike Fitz from June Artist of the Month Bad Marriage calls in, and shares stories about opening for Tesla, Eddie Money loving their name, and a secret trip the band is about to make out to CA! The gang also hears from Conway from VA who may just implicate himself in a capital crime. All of that and more stuff like the Question of the Show : What's your go to Summertime drink? Tales from the frontlines of the rock scene and tons of great music!
The Fallout Shelter featured an all DC area playlist thanks to Scout and Jennifer our D.C. insider. Corbin, Billy Joel and Scout had the regular less than stellar banter but the show was one of their best to highlight the talent that has come out of D.C. and the legacy that remains with new acts carrying the tourch.
Listen in as the gang plays some great songs and poses the question "What's The Name of Your Burger", more songs from Artist of the Month Victim of Circumstance, and Corbin calls in and tells us about participating in the Rolling Thunder rally in DC.
Listen in as Pete and John Anthony welcome Share The Air prospects Miss Celia & Gooch to the studio. Becka Lee checks in from an undisclosed location to join the gang as they reveal something that will likely change the course of the station.
Corbin, Billy Joel, Scout and Stormin Norman play and talk about music you just don't hear much these days. Billy Joel quizzes the group is it a Hockey or Sex term, we remember D-day and sub par witty banter all while competing with the Stanley Cup.
The gang gets to know the next superstars in Victim of Circumstance, and they promptly fire back. The gang wraps up the Boathouse 4 Boobies charity event, with some interviews and the totals for the fundraising. Rich Delmonico calls in. John steals Pete's phone and everyone is appalled by his search history. The show may never be the same.

All that and a ton of great music! We Are Internet Radio for the Cassette Generation!
It's another Friday night show for the First Wave crew. They feature the April Artist of the Month, The Dollyrots! The gang chats about brewery tours, the Woodstock 50th line-up, and the upcoming live appearance as MC's of the 8th annual B4B Charity Fundraiser Concert! It's another fun one! More news coming soon about changes to the station!
Tune in and listen as the gang competes in The 20 Second Challenge hosted by Brian of Bri-Guys Trivia Nights (briguystrivianights.com). It's a nip and tuck competition throughout! Great music too from March Artist of the Month Red Sky Mary, Flight of Fire, and New Artist Spotlight - Tropidelic, and many others! The gang also plays the "Florida Man" game. Find out what not to have printed on your novelty undies!!
Listen as Corbin, Billy Joel & Scout spin their favorite cover songs! Scout invites Stormin' Norman into the Fallout Shelter who within seconds comes "off the top rope" at Corbin. Scout also challenges the boys to a cover song trivia contest. Lots of fun and great takes on some of your favorite tunes!! Listen in now!!
Listen in as the gang spins some of their favorites and lots of listener requests as well, some you haven't heard in years! Also it's the first introduction to the March Artist of the Month, Red Sky Mary. This band out of the seacoast region of New Hampshire has been making great music that deserves a listen. The gang also introduces a new game "The Moral of the Story", which is available for all our podcast and stream listeners to win a prize package for. Please listen and participate, this is a fun one!
It's time for the gang to bare their souls and admit to their musical guilty pleasures. Listen to find out who is a rap fan, who loves Welsh crooners, and who grooves to some explicit tunes. Additionally, Scout and Billy Joel face off in a contest of "Is IT a Sex Act or a Food Item?". All that and the intern gets tossed out into the irradiated wasteland.
Pete, John Anthony, & Becka Lee are back in the saddle with some great music from February Artist of the Month, Rock Sugar, a new installment of Dan's Mid-West Rock Report featuring The Sluts, and a great call in from Soul Box a southern MA band making big noise on the national music scene.
In this episode the boys are alone in the Fallout Shelter contemplating VD without Scout whom has escaped. Will she return? Will Corbin submit Billy Joel to copious amounts of Motorhead? Will Billy Joel finally crack and strangle Corbin with his microphone cord? It's just another Valentines in the Fallout Shelter!!
Listen in as Pete & John Anthony are left to their own devices with Becka Lee traveling. They are joined by special guest "Randy" Randy for a testosterone addled jaunt through Songs of Lust and Obsession. They try and help out their fellow bros with some don't buy gift ideas for Valentines. Our favorite millionaire lush Rich Delmonico calls in. Songs from WRB February Artist of the Month - Rock Sugar.
Corbin & Billy Joel are back in the Fallout Shelter, but this time they are joined by Scout, who brings a welcome female point of view to the show. More great music from Lowell, MA bands and a DC area concert report! Talk about eclectic!
