30. Justin Trabue on being in the room
Today on the Season 1 finale of We Are Made Podcast, Imani is joined by winemaker, Justin Trabue. Growing up wine was a topic openly discussed amongst her family and she soon went on to learn the ins and outs of the business. After moving from DC to California to study wine, she spent summers in Santa Cruz putting together irrigation systems, and studying in Australia where she witnessed her first harvest season. As his passion for singing and songwriting began to grow in high school, he decided that a career as an artist was what he wanted to pursue. But growing up in a small town made it difficult to envision a life beyond his environment and deep down he knew that he wanted more for himself. Originally born in Kansas City, he didn’t discover his passion for photography until his later years in college. Due to the lack of reflections in his immediate environment, it wasn’t until after joining the corporate world that he realized a creative outlet is essential. 25. Jarrett Maloy on doing something you're passionate about
Today on the We Are Made Podcast, Imani is joined by JMO’s SneauxBall founder, Jarrette Maloy. After growing up in a family of elected officials and playing baseball for majority of his upbringing, he placed importance on maintaining a relationship with the community. When his dream of making it in the major leagues took a turn, he redirected his focus to starting a youth development program. Only issue was, he needed money. To help raise funds he started with a small snow cone station at a local apartment complex, as the business began to expand he soon went on to purchase a trailer, then shortly after he opened his very own first brick and border. Today on the We Are Made Podcast, Imani is joined by DEEM journal co-founder, Nu Goteh. Originally born in Liberia, West Africa, from as early as he could remember, creativity was an interest. In 2008 after graduating from UMass Lowell with a B.B.A in marketing, he made his way to PUMA as an intern and soon found himself in a cycling world of selling. When he noticed his lack of fulfillment and intention within his professional career he began to seek a more nuanced way of using design to infuse social responsibility into his work. After gathering with a group of friends around the same interest of reshaping what the future of the design world looked like and who could be a part of it. DEEM journal was born.

But it wasn’t until she received her first camera at 14 when her world began to open. Her entire life was leading her to a new beginning. But as she was met with bigger questions like, who am I and what am I here to do? She went on a quest to find the answers for herself using photography as her guide.

Today on the We Are Made Podcast, Imani is joined by visual artist Cris LaNiese. Born in Jacksonville, FL, her journey into the creative world began with her passion for writing. She attended The School of the Art for high school, but soon she found that her desire to feel normal didn’t align with her pursuit in poetry anymore. She took some time off and soon discovered a greater solace in the medium of art as a form of expression. But it didn’t stop there, her journey evolved and so did she. 10. Aliyah Salmon on conveying connection and intention through art

Originally born in Orlando, FL, she was inspired by her mother to attend SCAD for her art education, it was here that she discovered textile. And soon after graduation, Aliyah thought it was best to take her talents to Brooklyn. But don’t be mistaken. Her journey held its own leaps and hurdles, but with great perseverance and a desire to move through her limitations and disabilities. Today on the We Are Made Podcast Imani is joined by Cleveland based artist, Antwoine Washington. With the encouragement of his family's support, Antowine set out to feed the curiosity of his craft. In efforts to grow as an artist. Soon into his discoveries, he noticed a pattern. When he looked to the inspiration of museums as guidance, there was no one who looked like him. With this lack of representation and reflection, he knew there was a problem to be solved.
