The 13th Floor: Listen To a Vet

By We Belong Network

Our podcast was created to examine and discuss the resources that are available for veterans and their families.

The 13th floor is a fictitious floor where veterans in need of help can find vital information and support. Some of the resources we discuss include housing, how to apply for social services, and much more.

Absent Without Love (AWOL)

Absent Without Love (AWOL)

Absent Without Love (AWOL)

Absent Without Love (AWOL) is a unique act who’s lyricism and musical delivery is as expressive as it is engaging; inspiring others to find their own way, even  when the path of least resistance appears more desirable. However, AWOL’s persona is all but an act; as she is a U.S. Army veteran who built a promising future in the cybersecurity field, later turning down contracts from organizations such as NASA to pursue a full-time musical career, despite what those around her thought of her decision. The decorated sergeant’s fusion sound is an organic reflection of her wide-ranging experiences and dexterous expertise, with themes related to military culture, religion, economic and philosophical issues naturally finding its way into her music, as demonstrated through songs such as “Provider”-an ode to service members who are separated from loved ones carved into a biblical overtone- and “Sole Purpose” which is a hard-hitting lyrical journey filled with biblical allusions, socio-economic references, and self-reflection. AWOL aims to inspire others to find and live their purpose and truth, reminding others through her pseudonym of the lessons taught in 1 Corinthians 13:1: "Without love, [we] are nothing."

Song 1) "Coconut" By AWOL ,  2) " Provider" By AWOL ...song at the end

Jose Sonera “ Prinze the one man show”

Jose Sonera “ Prinze the one man show”

Jose Sonera “ Prinze the one man show”

The time is October 1976. The place is the IMPROV comedy club in New York City. Freddie is giving one of his last performances, just a few months before his death. Moving back and forth between the stage and the dressing room of the IMPROV, Sonera interlaces Prinze's best comedy sets with original monologues that illuminate the life of the late comedian.

PRINZE is an extraordinary, genre-defining play that delves into the psyche of one of America’s pioneering Latino comedians and TV Stars, Freddie Prinze.  PRINZE is written and performed by Jose Sonera, who takes the audience on the roller-coaster ride of emotions during the months leading up to Prinze’s suicide in January of 1977. Set at the Improv Theatre, Sonera blurs the lines between one-man play and stand-up comedy routine.

Freddie Prinze, like Sonera, was a Puerto Rican actor/comedian who grew up on the streets of New York and is credited as paving the way for Mr. George Lopez and other prominent Latino comedians and TV Actors today.  This gripping 90-minute play takes us on a non-stop journey of a man dealing with depression, drug abuse, the ups and downs of Hollywood, and the cruelty of the tabloid press. PRINZE boldly addresses issues of racism, cultural discord and identity crisis, as well as socio- political issues that are still at the forefront of the American mindset today.  Sonera effortlessly weaves a tapestry of Prinze’s comedy sets of the 70s with captivating original monologues that illuminate the soul of this legendary comedian.

The Challenges that comes with Remote Learning

The Challenges that comes with Remote Learning

Today we will learn about how teachers and parents  deal with remote learning in today's new norm.

Today guest are Jeri Fredericks, Racheal Summer, and Christina  Barbosa

Covid-19 has forced us to adapt to remote learning in order to safely educate our students. We are in the incubation stages of learning how to use this technology effectively with an antiquated educational system.

We see the challenges that many schools, principals, teachers, students, parents and essential workers go through every day due to minimum preparation and a desperate plan to roll remote learning without calculating the proper training and resources to make this work best for everyone.

Quality versus quantity of teaching and tax distribution to fund schools in neighborhoods creates inequality to the quality of education that a student receives are factors that could change our educational system. The question is when would this evolution take place and what are we waiting for?

We must to acknowledge that through adversity the courageous efforts that our teachers and dedicated parents face provides hope for our students. They seem to effortlessly take the bull by the horns, they ride the tough path and take responsibility were others fail, they find a way to make things better without expecting anything in return.

In return, we should reflect on these heroes and asks ourselves: how relevant and influential are they in our life
