We Did It

We Did It

By Amanda Weldon

Welcome to We Did It Podcast! The phrase "We Did It" shatters the idea that we are alone on our journey. Our successes (and even failures) are not achieved alone. In the We Did It Podcast we focus on the life stories behind the victories and failures of creative people. I believe everyone on this planet has creative tendencies but sometimes we feel shut off from our creativity. I want to talk about how to keep your creative channel open while laughing through some relatable topics. We are all the main characters in our story but that doesn't mean we are alone while we create our lives.

Life Online, Vulnerability & Creating a Brand ft. AMELIA LIANA ✨ WE DID IT PODCAST

I think a good majority of us would agree growing an audience online is one of the most gratifying, terrifying and vulnerable experiences of the modern age. Not only has Amelia Liana been able to garner an audience of hundreds of thousands but she's also created a brand from the ground up.

Talk about pinch me moment! I've followed along with Amelia's vlogs for such a long time and to be able to steal an hour of her time is still wild to me. Chatting felt as natural as watching her videos!

We cover all things being online, creating through the ages, those breakthrough moments and showing up even when dealing with heartbreak. I am so grateful for Amelia's vulnerability and honestly through this conversation and I hope you love listening to it as much as I loved recording it.

A special shoutout is absolutely necessary for the wonderful Pia who helped with all things scheduling. You are an absolute star Pia, thank you!

Cheers to you both - my new official friends!

Sending you loads of love wherever you are watching or listening,  Amanda  xo

14. Social Inequality in the Influencing World + Overcoming Impostor Syndrome | ft. Dominique Baker

There are so many important conversations happening right now around the world when it comes to race and social equality. No matter who you are and what your background is there is more to learn. Scotty and I have been investing time into learning more about our white privilege and how we can anti-racist while being an ally for those around us. We are so thankful to have people like Dominique in our lives. Dom takes us through real world scenarios as a Black Influencer and highlights ways we can support the movement in a positive way.  This episode also covers the topic of dealing with hate online and how to cope and overcome the feeling of impostor syndrome. I can't wait for you all to meet Dominique and hear this conversation. Thank you for being here!  Everything you need to know with up to date information on Black Lives Matter Click Here.

A Note from Dominique on Style Domination

My name is Dominique and I’m a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger. A public servant by day, my blog, www.styledomination.com, serves as a creative outlet highlighting my deep interest in fashion and beauty with a focus on humour. After all, you need a sense of humour to spend $2000 on a handbag. Style Domination is simply a play on my name. My blog highlights how I “Dom-ify” my clothing, so really, it’s more of a focus on “Style Domification” of current trends and classic pieces alike. Promise – I don’t pretend to dominate anything! In the early part of 2015, my husband suggested I start a blog featuring all of the fun things I get up to. What started as a medium to share my crazy adventures and love of style soon turned into a go-to destination for beauty advice and reviews, fashion, and lifestyle, and soon expanded to YouTube. Since launching my blog, I have been featured in Flare Magazine, the Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa Life Magazine, Krowd Magazine, among others. I have also worked with many notable brands such as Ford Canada, Lincoln Motors of Canada, ALEX & ANI, Westin Hotels, Charlotte Tilbury, L’Oréal, Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, Givenchy Beauty and Giorgio Armani Beauty. In addition to blogging, I now speak to groups in the Ottawa area about how to boost confidence and self-esteem through style, along with giving back to the community through charitable work. In 2017, I was named a Person 2 Know by the United Way Ottawa, and was an Ambassador for The Ottawa Hospital. Be sure to check out my Instagram page for more fashion and beauty, and I have a host of fashion, beauty and lifestyle-related videos on my  ---- We want to thank Dominique for her time, her insight and her poise as we tackle the tough subjects. 10. Ambitious Adulting, Side Hustles and Financial Freedom | ft. Liz Enriquez

Hello, hello everyone! Today we talk about one of my favourite subjects - FINANCES! It's about time we turn our passions into side hustles don't you think? However you may be thinking, how do I get started? This episode Amanda and Scotty catch up with Liz Enriquez, owner of "Ambitious Adulting" and cover topics like financial freedom, buying a house by 24, working a side hustle and making it a full-time job. We also talk about ways to start thinking about investing and small changes that can make big financial waves for the future!

*Liz has been featured on CBC, BNN Bloomberg, urbinicity, apartment therapy, The Hamilton Spectator and many more.

A Little Bit About Liz from ambitiousadulting.com

Ambitious Adulting is a platform that helps Canadian Millennials save more, make more, and reduce stress about money.

I’m Liz.

I was born in Mexico and moved to Canada when I was 5 years old.
Despite growing up in a low-income household, dropping out of math classes in high school, and living with anxiety, I reached financial security in my 20s.

I saved aggressively, I started investing at a young age, I worked entry-level jobs and many side-gigs, and then I started a business.

  • By age 21, I travelled to over 20 countries and paid for them out of pocket
  • By age 22, I paid off my university tuition
  • By age 24, I saved $50,000+ and bought a house
  • By age 26, my net worth grew to 6 figures
  • When I was 27, I quit my government job after making $10,000 one month through my various income streams
  • The next year, I bought my second property with a partner
  • Now I mentor millennials and empower them to take control of their finances and live the life they dream about.

Disclaimer: I, Liz Enriquez am not a financial adviser, and I am not certified to give financial advice. I share my journey and hope to inspire millennials to take control of their personal finances.

8. Holding Your Power & Running A Business With Your Best Friend | ft. Dallas Lombardi

8. Holding Your Power & Running A Business With Your Best Friend | ft. Dallas Lombardi

Forging your own path can look different at different stages of life. But what if life progresses faster than anticipated? Dallas Lombardi has been the CEO of her own life from a young age and has been working to survive and succeed ever since high school.

Dallas said on her about page, "I was out on my own before I graduated high school, and I picked up a waitressing job to make money so I could support myself. After high school, I worked multiple jobs simultaneously until I could afford to get myself my own apartment. Just before I turned 19, I moved to the city because I wanted more - I was determined to be successful and hold my own. I climbed up the ladder in the hospitality industry and became a Director by the age of 26, and from there I continued to lead teams at the Executive level. Because I was so young, I was in constant fear that people wouldn’t respect me if they knew how old I was. I kept my age a secret because society generally equates age with experience. I have to feel a strong connection to whatever I’m doing, and I will rock the boat when I really believe in something. I don’t give up. If I want something, I am going to achieve it. Sometimes the way I’m going about it doesn’t work, but I find a way.

Once I reached the success I thought I was supposed to have, I realized I wanted more than to be on the sunshine list. I walked away from the career I had spent 17 years building for myself."

I first met Dallas over social media and we quickly learned we had very similar interests. Our connection grew and so did our friendship. In this episode we talk about tackling fear of imposter syndrome, event planning, running a business with your best friend and taking advantage of this blip in normal (Covid-19 social distancing).

*I want to thank Dallas for her business insight and hustle! I know this is going to inspire anyone who is ready to start building their own path and accept the mistakes that will happen along the way! 4. Shopping Addiction, Low Buy Year & Influencer Marketing | ft. Style Apotheca

*RECORDED BEFORE COVID-19

Keeping up with the Jones has quickly turned into Keeping up with the Kardashians. The pressure to perform on social media while being creative is coming at a cost (quite literally), especially when you are in the style category. I sat down with one of my favorite bloggers Christina, of #StyleApotheca, and we hashed out her #LowBuy movement. Christina is vulnerable about her journey from over shopping to low buy rules.

If you are interested in being more conscious when you consume be sure to press play! Christina's insightful tips and tricks not only opened up my eyes to give Low Buy Year a try. But have also inspired a huge community on the internet to rise to the occasion as well in her Facebook group "Low Buy Beauties".

A NOTE FROM CHRISTINA | STYLE APOTHECA ON HER EPISODE

Why Did you Start a Low Buy Year?

One was because I was in 6 figure student debt from pharmacy school, and I chose to ignore paying it off aggressively it in favour of aiming to live a perceived "lavish" lifestlye that I thought was "normal" and that I saw my peers living, both in real life and on social media. I also assumed my new income would be able to match the lifestyle I thought was coming to me, and would be able clear the debt easily. NOT the case. My focus was I thought things like expensive shoes, avocado toast at brunch, having the latest skincare, and trips to Europe or Tulum would make me happy and feel more successful than I was. I would blame things like living in Toronto with high costs of living on the reasons why I was still in debt/why I wasn't hitting the milestones I had laid out for myself by certain ages. I would also start to blame my partner for not making enough money. The reality was that it was my impulsive spending habits that were keeping me in debt, causing my stress, straining my relationships, and keeping me from reaching the goals I want to in life (eg like travel, owning property, having savings, a wedding, financial freedom) and this had to change.

The second was that I was literally out of control in my spending and shopping. I was shopping almost constantly, especially around black Friday and Christmas of 2018 when sales were constant. I was ordering things sometimes twice a week. I was shopping out of being influenced, out of wanting to stay on trend for my blog/insta, trying to find "the perfect" XYZ every single week. I was shopping out of sheer boredom and feeling like I needed or wanted certain items to feel like I had "made it" or to feel pretty, or on trend, or confident in my core. By this point I was doing things like hiding packages before my boyfriend came home, pretending new items were old or purchased "a while ago". Almost any free time I had was dedicated to scrolling and being "on the hunt" for the next "Wardrobe essential". Financially, mentally, physically in my space, and spiritually I couldn't take it anymore. I knew I had to stop and change and that none of this stuff would be what would bring me the happiness or success I was always aiming for.

Because of these behaviours, I knew I had to do something now and something drastic, or I would be on a path to being a Broke person who happened to have nice things. I had almost no control over my finances and pretty much no control over my impulses and constant desire to "want". My life revolved around "wanting" instead of being grateful. I was also tired of being a victim of myself. I made every single choice I made in the past, and I knew I was the owner of every choice I would make in the future so it was time to start making better ones.

2. How To Live With A Creative | ft. Scotty Shares

2. How To Live With A Creative | ft. Scotty Shares

No matter who you are or where you come from you are creative. There is certainly a spectrum when it comes to this creative voice of course, but there is no denying we all have creative tendencies. Amanda Weldon and Scott Meiklejohn (aka Scotty Shares) tackle what it is like to live with a creative and the most effective language to use when communicating with a creative. They also tackle the importance of starting a creative project now and keeping your inner channel open when it comes to your creative expression.

We Did It Podcast and this episode in particular has been inspired by the following quote by Martha Graham.

“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.”

1. We Made Our Own Momentum & Became a National Weather Host

1. We Made Our Own Momentum & Became a National Weather Host

There is no roadmap to becoming an on-air personality. If there was it would likely be extremely confusing with a ton of bridges, detours and likely no GPS. However, when we look at people in their careers and on social media everything seems to be easy. Why is that? I wanted to share my story with you all in our first episode so you know exactly where I am coming from.

My life mantra is "Make Your Own Momentum". I am a huge believer in carving my own door when there isn't one in front of me. The reason I love this so much is because I have seen it work in my own life. Let me tell you the story of how I became a broadcaster and outline some of the bumps along the way.  There wasn't always a clear cut path - but there is always a chance to Make Your Own Momentum

Everyone is a broadcaster these days - let's harness that power together!

Welcome to the first season of We Did It and the first We Did It Wednesday!

All my love - Amanda

Welcome to We Did It Podcast!

Welcome to We Did It Podcast!

Welcome to We Did It Podcast! The phrase "We Did It" shatters the idea that we are alone on our journey. Our successes (and even failures) are not achieved alone. In the We Did It Podcast we focus on the life stories behind the victories and failures of creative people. I believe everyone on this planet has creative tendencies but sometimes we feel shut off to our creativity. I want to talk about how to keep your creative channel open while laughing through some relatable topics. We are all the main characters in our story, but that doesn't always mean we've been the only ones in control of writing it.

My name is Amanda Weldon and I will be your guide through We Did it Wednesdays. Season one is going to be full of insightful stories and impressive guests. Thanks for joining us for our trailer episode and learning more about We Did It! Stay tuned for this Wednesday when our first episode will be released and the beginning of this podcasting journey commences!

Ps. Today is my birthday -- and today marks the start of something new and the beginning of a new trip around the sun. However though this may be new to me, without you there would be no "we".

While you wait for the next We Did It Episode join us over on social media. You can find us at WEDIDITPODCAST on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And join me Amanda Weldon on my personal page at BELOWTHEBLONDE on Instagram.
