"I love exploring the vibrant food culture around me. As a kid, two of the most influential and inspiring figures in my life were my amazing grandmothers who taught me the wonders of cooking. Since then, I've been on an everlasting journey to learn more about regional delicacies, fresh ingredients from local farmers' markets, and traditional recipes. Exploring different techniques and cultural cuisines has not only made me a better chef but also a more creative one too.

My professional experience includes working at restaurants, menu consulting, recipe development and cooking instructor for the last six years. I'm now living my dream of cooking great food whilst connecting with wonderful people like yourself in beautiful Palermo, Sicily!"

Who's driving the struggle bus and how do we get off?

Meghan and Jen get left home alone (unsupervised) and discuss lego-block-farmhouses, coping instead of thriving, creative paralysis,  and getting stuck on the struggle bus.  They chat about how confusing and destabilizing it feels to work for bosses who actually don’t devalue you (oh hey self-doubt! Welcome back!), how to find the energy to do the things that give us energy,  and why we ghost the people we love the most, and avoid doing the things we love to do the most. Holy creative block Batman! What are we going to do now?

Holy creative block Batman! What are we going to do now?

Meghan and Jen get into all kinds of superficial deep shit about keeping creative juices
Flowing. They talk imaginary lives and symbols of sophistication, while continuously getting derailed, because who can stay on track once jello salad has been mentioned?

Jen walks us through a few writing exercises that help you get creatively and/or personally unstuck, and she makes Meghan do them “live” while recording.

Meghan confesses her lifelong dream of being a Scottish onion farming Hobbit, and walks us through the steps of making the Turducken of Desserts, the Pumpecapple Piecake, and makes Jen cry over how much refined sugar and saturated fat that entails.

AND a very special secret guest makes a surprise cameo appearance!

Stand-Up, Close-Up Magic & Superdogs with David Acer

Meghan and Jennifer June chat with award-winning author, television writer, stand-up comedian, close-up magician, comedy club (The Comedy Nest) co-owner and Creative Director of a Canadian entertainment brand called the SuperDogs™, David Acer.

We talk about comedy, writing,  and Jen’s crippling fear of magic tricks. Meghan and Jen (fruitlessly) attempt to bully David into casting three of their combined domestic pets in the next superdogs episode and naturally discuss David’s alter-ego, Alfred Hitchcockerspaniel.

He’s had his own special on The Comedy Network and appeared on a multitude of international specials, not to mention live at The Riviera in Las Vegas, The Magic Castle in Hollywood, and 13 times at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.

Younger audiences might also recognize him as “Doubting Dave” from the series Mystery Hunters, which garnered him two Gemini nominations (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmys) for Best Writing and the publication of his spin-off book, GOTCHA! 18 Amazing Ways to Freak Out Your Friends.

GOTCHA! went on to become a Canadian bestseller and earned David two children’s literary-award nominations, as well as one win—the Hackmatack Children's Choice Award for Best Non-Fiction. It has since been translated into French and Danish.

More recently David has contributed comedic pieces to Reader’s Digest Canada and appeared on CBC’s The Debaters, tackling hot-button topics like whether gravity is trying to kill us and who’s cooler: clowns or magicians.

On top of all that, David is a world-class sleight-of-hand artist and inventor of magic tricks who has performed and lectured for magicians around the world. He was named Magician of the Year by the Canadian Association of Magicians and graced the cover of the American magic magazine, Genii, the industry’s oldest and most respected periodical. He has also had four books of his original tricks published—the latest, called More Power To You, by Hermetic Press (Seattle, WA).

Now in his role as Creative Director at Canada’s Spot On Entertainment he has helped write and develop digital content, virtual productions and eight live touring shows for their enormously popular brand, the SuperDogs. These shows entertain over one million people every year at theatres and arenas across the country.
