An episode of Westside CC

By Westside Christian Church
This is a place where people have gathered for one purpose: to honor God. None of us are perfect. You won't find any "Super Saints" here. What you will find is a group of people who are doing the best they can to pursue God and obey His will. If you are looking for perfect people in a perfect church, this is not the place to look. If you are struggling with life and are looking for God, then you found the right place. Come enjoy a cup of coffee, join in uplifting worship, and hear a Biblical message that is relevant to your everyday life.

2019-10-20 - This Means War - Week 03
We’re starting a new series called, “This Means War...The Reality of Spiritual Warfare”. And I know that for a lot of believers…this topic of spiritual warfare is uncharted territory, but it is territory that needs to be discovered. I want you to know that through this series, I want to help us understand that there’s a war going on inside each and every one of us…a spiritual battle that’s being played out every day of our lives and if you don’t believe me, all you have to do is look around and you will see the results. But also, I want to help us to understand that this battle we’re in, is fought from the inside out through the power of the Holy Spirit and our victory has already been won on the cross of Jesus. You don’t have to worry, you don’t have to give in, and you don’t have to live a defeated life. We have the promise that “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” So, plan now to join us for this amazing series.

2019-09-01 - Dog Days of Summer - Week 14 - Being Devoted to Prayer Part 2
We’re entering the final leg of our summer long study, “The Dog Days of Summer.” We’ve been learning how to avoid the summertime spiritual slump. Part 1 of our series was entitled “Depend”. Depend on Jesus to “save, strengthen, sustain and shepherd”. Part 2, which we just completed last week, was called “Decide”. We have to decide to be “free, content, humble, focused and wise”. And this Sunday, we begin Part 3, which is called, “Devote”. We’ll discover that we need to be devoted to “God’s Truth, God’s family, God’s gifts and God’s heart”.

2019-07-28 - Dog Days of Summer - Week 09 - Decide to be Wise (with guest Josh Oldfield)
We’ve all been there. The weather gets warmer, school comes to a close, vacations are planned and if we’re not careful, it’s easy to just coast our way through the summer and ignore our relationship with God and the church. It’s easy to fall into the trap of the infamous summer slump. So, the question we’re going to ponder for all of June, July, and August is this... “How can we avoid the summertime spiritual slump?” That’s why we are starting a three-month series called... “The Dog Days of Summer” and this series will be broken down into three parts. Part 1 begins on Sunday June 2nd, and I’m calling this section, “Depend”. In other words, to avoid a summertime spiritual slump, we need to depend on the only person who can truly, 100% of the time, be depended upon...His name is Jesus. In July we’ll go through Part 2 which is to “Decide”. We have to decide every single day, that we are going to be disciples of Jesus no matter what season of life we are in. And then in August, Part 3 of our study will focus on the word, “Devote”. As the early church did in Acts 2, we are to devote ourselves to God’s truth, and God’s family, God’s gifts, and ultimately God’s heart. And the hope for all of us, by the time summer wraps up, is that we’ll discover that, instead of being in a spiritual slump, we are on our way to becoming spiritually stronger than we’ve ever been. I hope that you’ll not only make Sundays a priority on your summer schedule but you’ll also use this as a way of inviting others to join you on the journey.

2019-07-07 - Dog Days of Summer - Week 06 - Decide to be Content
Hey Westside... What an amazing week this has been for us as a church family. Even though the summer vacations are upon us and lots of people are traveling, God still blew us away Sunday with an amazing service and several new families. We also had a great Hamburger Cookout after the service and fed around 75 people. A big thank you to all those who helped with that event. Our next one is scheduled for the first Sunday of August. Then, we had a great time at the Lewisville Town Square for their 4th of July Celebration. I want to give a big shout out to all our amazing volunteers who came and face painted and past out water. You all are awesome... Our Summer Sermon Series... “The Dog Days of Summer", continues tomorrow morning. I can't wait to dive in again as we discover what God has in store for us. As I mentioned last week, this is a great opportunity to be reaching out to family, friends, co-workers, actually, anyone you meet and invite them to join you on this incredible journey that God is taking us on. This week, our focus will be... "Decide to be Content". We'll be unpacking 1 Timothy 6:5-8. I would encourage you to read through this awesome chapter to prepare your heart for what God wants to do in and through your life. I know its summer, but let's do our best to pack out Westside in the morning. Jerry

2019-05-26 - Communion (with guest Steve Bufkin)
This is a place where people have gathered for one purpose: to honor God. None of us are perfect. You won't find any "Super Saints" here. What you will find is a group of people who are doing the best they can to pursue God and obey His will. If you are looking for perfect people in a perfect church, this is not the place to look. If you are struggling with life and are looking for God, then you found the right place. Come enjoy a cup of coffee, join in uplifting worship, and hear a Biblical message that is relevant to your everyday life.

2019-05-19 - Hope for the Broken - Week 04
The Bible teaches that you have three enemies that are trying to mess with your life. They want to defeat you and keep you from having joy, purpose and meaning in life. The Bible calls these three enemies, the world...the Satan and the flesh (you). Now, most people think that our biggest enemy would be Satan or the world, but actually, your biggest enemy is YOU. As we read last week, Paul struggled with this as he writes in Romans 7... “I can’t figure myself out. All my best intentions aren’t good enough. I want to do the right thing but I don’t. And I don’t want to do the wrong thing but I do.” You see, the truth is, the battle for YOU, is inside of YOU and I believe that much of our unhappiness and brokenness is because we listen to us instead of listening to God.

You see, the reality of life is this…we all struggle with stress, fears, overwork, addictions, worry and persistent sin. And not dealing with them in the right way, has the potential of taking us to a very dark place. So, over the next 4 weeks, I want to give you some hope, give you some things that can help to keep us from landing in that dark place.

2018-12-02 - His Name Shall Be Called - Week 01 - Wonderful Counselor
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder. For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian. The boots of the warrior and the uniforms bloodstained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire. For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:2-6

2018-11-18 - How Big is Your God
How Big is Your God? David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands. 1 Samuel 17, Verses 45-47

2018-11-04 - Awakening - Week 06 - Life
Whether you realize it or not, all of us need to have an awakening with our God. Over the next 6 weeks, as we unpack the "Parable of the Prodigal Son", there are 5 awakenings that we're going to spend some time on and as we do, I believe that you’ll discover your story somewhere in one or all of them. We’ll look at the “Awakening to Longing”, the “Awakening to Regret”, the “Awakening to Need”, the “Awakening to Love”, and the “Awakening to Life”. To get the series started, this week I want to introduce all of us to this idea of an “Awakening”, to help us to see, that at times, we all need a wake-up call.
