We're back! (Or more specifically, one of us is back!)
As we take a shift toward our new format, we begin the second season of We Talk Books with a review of one of the most talked-about books that I have never read. I start out with a non-spoiler review of The Selection by Kiera Cass, highlighting my thoughts on the story, the characters, the romance, and the ever-talked-about names.

SIX OF CROWS #1: The Anomaly of Kanej

Fasten your seatbelts... Brooke found a couple she not only can stand, but she actually likes. Also, hear just how distasteful we find another certain couple. (No hurt feelings, shippers of all kinds. It's all in fun.) We're shocked at how similar our tastes are in relationships though.
In addition, we discuss just how correct Laura was in saying Wylan is one of the best characters before Brooke even started the book. What a guy.

THE HOBBIT #1: A Quest For Treasure Or Friendship?

Things are off to a promising start despite the fact that Brooke has no idea where the story takes place, nor understands that not all elves live in one single tree. Fortunately, fantasy is more Laura's area of expertise so, as always, we can expect wise and thoughtful comments from her, ranging from Tolkien's experience in the war to the question of whether the story is really about a big adventure or just the growing of friendships.
Also, experience an oddly clairvoyant moment in which Brooke and Laura both make a comparison to Dune's Gurney Halleck at the same point in the story. (How did we do that? We don't know.)
