Remote Working - Bringing Out the Best in Others

Remote Working - Bringing Out the Best in Others

Acklen Avenue has been a remote work environment since they started back in 2011. What started as a 2 person business has grown to over 120 team members today - all working remotely. Colin shares some of the "experiments" they have done that has worked, and others that they have had to refine over time. Key points are 1. Relationships being developed 2. Good listening 3. Having metrics that team members are measured against 4. Simply as cameras on for all meetings 5. Open communication Most of these apply to any business but when you are remote - you have to make them your mission and commitment to create that environment that people thrive in. Colin Callahan's passion lies in cultivating an environment conducive to employee flourishing. Serving as the CEO and co-founder of Acklen Avenue since its inception in 2011, he has dedicated himself to this endeavor. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Colin relocated to Los Angeles at 21 to pursue studies at the Musician’s Institute. It was in 1999, while attending programming classes, that he unearthed his passion for software development. Subsequently settling in Nashville, he embarked on a career as a software engineer. Over the next decade, Colin noticed a scarcity of outstanding workplaces catering to software developers. Motivated by this realization, Colin and his business partner Byron Sommardahl founded Acklen Avenue with the vision of building an environment where employees would thrive. Contact Information:

How to Approach AI

How to Approach AI

AI can be like jumping into a swimming pool , but not knowing how to swim. Peter Mares shares with us an approach that applies to technology/AI.So like any person that wants to swim - you take lessons, and start with the basics and then work your way up to swimming laps. This applies to Technology and AI. There are basic things you have to learn and do well before you move to the next level.

The 4 key steps in Technology is 1. Descriptive - (the What) 2. Diagnostics - (the Why) 3. Predictive - (What is likely to happen) 4. Prescriptive - (What should I do now) Steps 1 and 2 are the basics. You have to be able to do this well before you jump in for 3 and 4. Peter J. Mares is a former partner at a “Big Four” accounting firm who brings an innovative and entrepreneurial background to the mid-market. He has a unique blend of consulting and corporate experience across a broad spectrum of industries. Peter is currently co-founder and Managing Member of G76.AI, a technology and advisory company that helps mid-market businesses grow sales and profits within their existing customer base by leveraging AI and applied analytics. The Role of the Workplace in Modern times

The Role of the Workplace in Modern times

Brett shares with us what is happening in the workspaces of today- knowing that we have people working remotely, those in the office, and those somewhere in between. The modern workplace has evolved or as he shares sped up the change due to COVID. Culture is a driving force that makes a company different. Brett helps us see how the workplace plays into making that culture come to life.

Brett is the founder and managing principal architect of EWP Architects, a practice solely focused on interior architecture. Having surpassed 25 years in practice and more than 1000 projects, Brett’s deep understanding of project delivery makes his expertise sought after by clients across the country. EWP’s comprehensive practice is centered around critical design thinking and supporting place as a tool for organizational culture. Brett’s always had an affinity for the mechanics of things. His dad was a self-taught jack of all trades. Building a family cottage with him, at age twelve, was a pivotal life experience. As was, finding technical drawing in high school and quickly moving on to CAD (for MS-DOS). During college, Brett found my love for design and all things architecture. His early career was spent working in educational and municipal buildings. Those experiences taught him the process of building while he developed his process of design.

A Business Line of Credit VS A Personal Line of Credit

A Business Line of Credit VS A Personal Line of Credit

Alexis Stucker is an expert on how to help a business get a true line of credit tied to your EIN number not your personal home. Many new businesses, and small businesses use a credit card that they say is a business card but in fact it really is a personal credit card. Alexis walks us through the benefits of opening up the line of credit for your business. She also helps you understand why you may need a line of credit in the first place. Alexis Stucker is an Executive Vice President with J. Galt.  She is a business credit expert who specializes in working with small to medium sized business owners. She helps build a strong business credit profile on the EIN number attached to the LLC, ensuring business owners never have to use their personal credit or finances to fund their business.  She opened up her business funding consulting practice in the beginning of 2023.  She works as an Independent Contractor with J. Galt who owns the business credit building software she uses to help rescue business owners who otherwise wouldn't have access to the cash and capital they need when they need it without risking their personal assets.  She was recently promoted to State Director of Pennsylvania (in training) which will now allow her to partner with different business/entrepreneur and trades organizations in the State of Pennsylvania, offering her business credit building services to their members to ensure every small business can have access to the same funding and financing that huge Wall Street Corporations do.

A Smart Office

A Smart Office

Wade Fulton shares about automation and AI in the home and office. There are new things coming out it seems daily to make our lifes easier and better. What used to be expensive or out of reach is no longer. Wade opens our eyes to new tools that make your environment more effective and functional. Wade Fulton, a Nashville native, is passionate about helping people get the most our oftoday’s latest technology. After spending 15 years in sales and marketing in the healthcare sector, Wade decided he was ready for a change. That’s when he went to work for Apple, working on the Business Team to help businesses integrate Apple products into a Windows-dominant work environment. He left Apple in 2012 to pursue a career as an Apple Consultant.

After guiding countless business and individuals to a world of working smarter, not harder, he saw an opportunity to go way beyond Macs, iPhones, and iPads. The market was getting flooded with “home control systems”—some were decent options, but many of the ‘solutions’ were simply falling short of their promise to make your home simple to control.

That’s when Wade founded The Fulton Group in 2015 to expand his services beyond Apple Consulting to designing easy-to-use audio/video/theater/control systems. A designer at heart with degrees in Graphic Design, Photography, and Art History from Savannah College of Art & Design, Wade was able to embrace his passion for design and take a new approach to the ‘smart home’ market. Most people don’t consider how they will use their home until construction is complete. Unfortunately, builders, homeowners, contractors, etc. don’t think about Wi-Fi, whole-house audio, control, motorized shades, and lighting design until it’s too late.

The Fulton Group prides themselves in being an essential part of the design process. They work with homeowners, business owners, builders, designers and more to ensure the end-product results in a space that is state-of-the-art with built-in and invisible speakers, hidden TVs, elegant lighting, and more—all built on a solid, stable, and fast Wi-Fi network and the world’s most advanced control system. All of this allows you to live or work in Iron Man’s house.

How one business is using AI to grow sales

How one business is using AI to grow sales

Shannon McGee joins us to share how she is using an AI tool in her business to close more sales faster. She gives a sneak peak at how this tool can change the way you communicate to potential buyers. She points out that 82% of people buy from people they can relate to. So if you are turning off a prospect with your approach could be why you struggle to close a deal. This episode gives us a first hand look at how AI is used in a small business setting.

Shannon McGee is a strategic business consultant and owner of Music City Referral Network—a thriving Network In Action (NIA) franchise.  Her dynamic upbringing as the daughter of a career Marine Corps fighter pilot, which led to frequent relocations across the US, instilled in her a deep appreciation for individuals and their unique strengths and differences. Over three decades, she has excelled across diverse sectors in client-facing roles with remarkable adaptability in operations, sales, leadership, and the formation of world-class client success teams. This background shaped her into an industry-agnostic, operationally adept business expert.

A natural connector, Shannon fosters success in others while realizing her dream job as an NIA owner. Her focus: cultivating vibrant communities of business owners and professionals, united in mutual success, intentional networking, and business growth.
