Welcome to episode 129 of the What are We Doing podcast! In this week's episode, hosts Levi and Los break down Super Bowl LVIII where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. The Chiefs came into the game as underdogs but were able to overcome a 10-point deficit to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions in two decades. The game was a rematch of Super Bowl LIV in 2020 when the Chiefs beat the Niners 31-20. It was an exciting back-and-forth game that went down to the wire. The Chiefs struck first with a field goal at the end of the second quarter. In the third quarter, the Niners responded with a touchdown thanks to a trick play where wide receiver Jauan Jennings threw to running back Christian McCaffrey for a 21-yard score. The Chiefs battled back at the end of the third with their own touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The fourth quarter saw both teams trade field goals and touchdowns. With under two minutes left, Niners kicker Jake Moody hit a 53-yarder to put San Francisco up 19-16. But Mahomes led an impressive last-minute drive, setting up a game-tying field goal with 3 seconds left to force overtime. In OT, the Niners struck first with a field goal. But Mahomes worked his magic again, driving KC down the field and hitting Mecole Hardman for the game-winning 1-yard TD pass with just 13 seconds left. Mahomes cemented his legacy as a clutch performer, leading another comeback win. It was only the second Super Bowl ever to go to overtime after Super Bowl LI in 2017. Chiefs coach Andy Reid stayed perfect against 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, moving to 4-0. And the Niners drought without a Super Bowl win extends to 30 years now. The Chiefs defense came up big all game, containing the Niners attack. And the KC offense persevered despite turnovers and miscues. Mahomes battled through an uncharacteristic interception. The running backs on both teams struggled to hold onto the ball. But in the end, Mahomes and the Chiefs made just enough plays to get another Lombardi Trophy. To start things off, I want to talk about the one and only Taylor Swift. She continues to dominate pop culture, from winning Grammys to dating NFL star Travis Kelce. T-Swift is truly the biggest celebrity in the world right now. Her influence is unmatched. At the recent Grammy awards, Taylor won her 13th Grammy, which is just incredible. She looked stunning and gave a heartfelt acceptance speech announcing her new album that's coming out in April. I'm so excited for more new music from Taylor! No one deserves success more than her. Some other highlights from the Grammys - Miley Cyrus and Amanda Bynes also won their first Grammys which was amazing to see. I'm happy for them. However, Beyonce went home empty-handed again, much to Jay-Z's disappointment. He complained in his speech that his wife keeps getting overlooked. I feel for Beyonce but the numbers don't lie - Taylor Swift is on top when it comes to sales, streams and impact. Moving on to some totally fictional news - I joked that my podcast got a $250 million deal from Spotify, making me the new #1 podcast instead of Joe Rogan. This was just a little fun bit, not actual news! Don't think I'm actually that wealthy now from a Spotify deal. A guy can dream though! I also discussed some of my thoughts on politics and the economy. The government keeps spending billions on other countries while problems persist here at home. I proposed an idea for Taylor Swift to launch a cryptocurrency that could stimulate the US economy. It may sound outlandish but imagine if Swiftcoin became a real thing! What's up podcast fam? I'm your host Levi McCurdy and today I had the honor of sitting down with Felix Arroyo, host of the amazing Journeyman Chronicles podcast. This was an epic nearly 2-hour conversation diving deep into Felix's origin story and the trials and tribulations of his podcast journey so far. We started all the way back in 1996, exploring Felix's early days getting into music, writing plays, and discovering his innate passion for storytelling. I was blown away hearing how he taught himself to create music on his own as a teenager, driven by a pure love for hip hop and conscious rap. From writing his own albums to performing live shows at the famous Chameleon Club, Felix gave us an inside look at his come up on the Central PA rap scene. We even got into that iconic green screen "Everything Burns" album cover art that I remembered from back in the day! Beyond music, Felix opened up about his evolution into podcasting and the motivation behind starting the Journeyman Chronicles show. After years stuck in a dead end job, he yearned to take back control of his time and do something aligned with his purpose. Even as he struggled with consistency and technical challenges those first couple years, he persevered with a commitment to keep growing the show. Now in Season 3 he's built real momentum, lining up interviews weeks in advance and attracting more guest outreach than ever before. Our wide ranging conversation touched on everything from the difficulty of balancing passion projects with family life, to the inner belief and work ethic required to make it independently. Felix gave incredible insight into his spiritual grounding and vision to build an inclusive media network spotlighting diverse voices. I could relate to so much of his podcast journey, from scrapping by in the early days to later finding confidence as a host and interviewer. Our transparent talk exemplified the real conversations that podcasting enables between two people genuinely invested in each other's growth. I started the show by welcoming Jeff and asking him to discuss Taylor Swift. Jeff praised Taylor's music, highlighting songs like Shake It Off and Blank Space. He was curious what kind of music Taylor would make if she got married, since much of her past work centers on relationships. Jeff imagined scenarios if she and Travis eloped or broke up in 2024, joking that either way it would probably inspire amazing new songs. Transitioning topics, Jeff and I shared our goals for 2024. Jeff mentioned trying to get weight loss surgery to improve his health, training to advance his jiu-jitsu skills, and increasing his content creation. After that, Jeff and I discussed the endless fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, with Jeff explaining how they can last for years with no defined end. I asked him to help me understand the appeal of playing indefinitely with no resolution in sight. Jeff emphasized it's more about enjoying time with friends than the game itself. I quizzed Jeff on pop culture trivia, admitting I was relying entirely on my memory for the answers. Jeff aced easy questions but struggled to name all of Kim and Kanye's kids, only recalling their daughter North West. Neither of us could even remember all of Michael Jackson's children. He died by suicide in 2019 before his trial. His associate Ghislaine Maxwell was later convicted for her involvement and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The documents we'll be reviewing stem from a 2015 lawsuit filed by one of Epstein's accusers, Virginia Giuffre, against Maxwell. Giuffre claimed Maxwell recruited her as a teenager into Epstein's operation. The lawsuit was settled in 2017, but thousands of pages of documents were just unsealed. There are a lot of bombshell allegations and big names involved. I want to go through some of the most shocking revelations. One of the biggest names is Prince Andrew. According to the documents, Johanna Sjoberg said Prince Andrew inappropriately touched her when she was 21 at Epstein's New York home. She says there were about 8 other young women there, acting as "decorations" for Epstein's party. This allegation is especially problematic given Prince Andrew's ties to Epstein already led him to step down from royal duties. Virginia Giuffre has also long said she was made to engage with Prince Andrew on multiple occasions when she was underage, which he denies. The evidence seems to be growing against the disgraced prince. The documents also contain many references to former president Bill Clinton. One victim said Epstein claimed Clinton "owes me favors" and that Clinton had a reputation for liking younger women. While no criminal misconduct is alleged against Clinton, the documents show a close tie between him and Epstein that looks unseemly, to say the least. A few other big names came up too, though no wrongdoing is alleged based on the documents. For instance, Johanna Sjoberg said she was asked to find young girls for celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkai while he visited Hawaii. She also met magician David Copperfield at Epstein's home, after which Copperfield allegedly asked if she knew Epstein paid girls to recruit others. In addition to the celebrity mentions, the documents provide more context on how Epstein and Maxwell operated. Victim accounts describe how female recruiters lured in vulnerable, often underage girls by claiming they could make money giving massages. These "massages" would turn inappropriate, sometimes involving both Epstein and Maxwell. While these documents don't necessarily contain bombshells, they confirm suspicions about Epstein's far-reaching network. The abuse described is sickening. For me, this case shows the need to hold the powerful accountable, regardless of their status. Wealthy men too often protect each other from consequences. While names like Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump have surfaced in relation to Epstein, the media shouldn't get distracted by gossip. The focus should remain on hearing from survivors and achieving justice. There are likely others complicit in Epstein's crimes, and prosecutors say investigations are ongoing. I hope these unsealed documents provide new clues. Beyond prosecutions, we must ask tough questions about how Epstein operated unchecked for so long, with access to elites. How can we prevent enablers from providing cover for predators? This should spur a push for transparency and accountability among the rich and powerful. Clearly we can't rely on them to police themselves. What's up friends and welcome back to another episode of What Are We Doing? I'm your host Nick and today I want to talk about someone who has been dominating headlines lately - Gypsy Rose Blanchard. As many of you know, Gypsy just got released from prison after serving 8 years for her involvement in her mother Dee Dee's murder back in 2015. This case has fascinated people for years and generated lots of discussion about Munchausen syndrome by proxy, coercive control, and whether Gypsy was truly a victim or perpetrator in this situation. I distinctly remember binge watching the HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest when it came out in 2017 and being completely engrossed by this bizarre and tragic story. Of course, the media spotlight on Gypsy ramped up again recently as her release date approached. I'll admit I had mixed feelings when I saw on Instagram that Gypsy was celebrating her freedom with a smiling selfie in her hotel room. On one hand, I'm happy she gets a second chance at life after enduring her mother's medical abuse for so many years. But on the other hand, it's hard to forget that she did scheme to kill Dee Dee in cold blood. Her mother might have been a toxic presence, but did she really deserve to die? Seeing supportive comments from high-profile figures like Jennifer Turpin, one of the siblings rescued from the notorious Turpin family abuse case, shows that many see Gypsy as a fellow survivor rather than a criminal mastermind. And Gypsy herself has expressed regret, saying in a recent interview that she thinks about her mother's murder every day and wishes she could go back in time and handle the situation differently. Of course, the big question is - what's next for Gypsy Rose Blanchard? How does someone who was isolated and infantilized for over 20 years adapt to normal adulthood and freedom? I really hope she takes time to focus on her mental health and adjustment, rather than jumping into new relationships or media deals. I have to admit I'm curious to hear the story in her own words rather than filtered through documentarians and Hollywood. But I also worry about her being exploited or sensationalized by the entertainment industry. This is someone's real life tragedy, not just a juicy plotline. As much as the story pulls you in, I think we have to remember there are real people at the heart of it who are still trying to heal and move forward. I hope Gypsy finds peace and purpose in this new chapter of her life. She's endured so much manipulation and trauma already at a young age. Now having agency over her own life narrative and direction is a powerful opportunity, if she uses it wisely. I don't profess to know all the answers here. For those who don't know, Matt Rife is a 28-year-old stand-up comic who recently released his first Netflix special called "Natural Selection." Now Rife has already caught some heat online over an insensitive domestic violence joke he made in the special, but he stirred up even more backlash over the weekend involving an altercation with TikTok mom Bunny Hedaya & her 6-year-old son. Here's the rundown - in Rife's comedy special, he pokes fun at people who believe in astrology. Hedaya's son, who is really into outer space, made a lighthearted reaction video on TikTok pointing out that Rife had gotten his planetary facts wrong. Rife then proceeded to leave a scathing comment directed at the 6-year-old, falsely claiming his mom has an OnlyFans account & that Santa isn't real. Like, what?! This grown man is out here cyberbullying a little kid for literally no reason. All the kid did was correct Rife's astronomy - he didn't even tag Rife in the video! Yet Rife felt the need to personally attack him & his mom in the Instagram comments. It's completely uncalled for. The whole thing blew up online, with TikTokers blasting Rife for his immature behavior. Many pointed out the irony that a stand-up comedian can dish out offensive jokes but can't handle a harmless comment from a child. The controversy comes shortly after Rife's Netflix special dropped, which was already facing criticism over some of its insensitive humor targeting women & domestic violence survivors. So this latest incident definitely isn't doing him any favors. Some folks online have wondered if Rife is just drumming up controversy for the sake of publicity. After all, the famous saying goes "no publicity is bad publicity." But honestly, I think going after kids crosses a line, whether it's intentionally provocative or not. There's enough negativity & cyberbullying online already without targeting innocent children. In other news, exiled conspiracy theorist Alex Jones also made headlines over the weekend after Elon Musk decided to reinstate Jones' previously banned Twitter account. Back in 2018, Twitter had permanently suspended Jones for hate speech & conspiracy theories. But in a Twitter poll on Saturday, Musk asked followers if Jones' account should be restored, & about 70% voted yes. Some experts argue that unbridled free speech tends to give rise to more extreme, radicalized content online. So Jones' return to X will be an important case study to follow in terms of how the site handles misinformation & extremism moving forward. But those are just my thoughts! Sitting down to record this week's episode of my podcast "What are we Doing," I was thrilled to have my long-time friend and former RadioShack coworker A2CKilla joining me as guest. Nowadays, A2CKilla has gone all in on pursuing streaming video games on Twitch as his full-time gig. I was excited to pick his brain about that emerging creator economy. But first, I wanted to reminisce on old times and our endless debates comparing Apple and Android products. As an Apple devotee since the early days of iPods and iPhones, I've always defended iOS devices to A2CKilla's pro-Android arguments. He could never convince me that Android phones were superior, though he made some decent points about connectivity and customization options. Still, I valued the simplicity, compatibility, and app ecosystem of my iPhone. One area we dug into was the differences between Lightning cables and USB-C charging. I conceded USB-C seems more universal, but argued Lightning is tried and true, having served me well for over a decade now. I'm fine using an adapter dongle if needed. However, the upcoming adoption of RCS messaging protocols by Apple in 2024 could be a game changer. While I'm wary of opening iMessage's walled garden, I'm intrigued by the promise of improved texting and typed communication across platforms. iMessage is still better, but I'm open to this evolution - even if just to get A2CKilla to stop complaining about green bubbles! Shifting gears, I was able to pick A2CKilla's brain about his experiences jumping into full-time streaming a few years ago. He walked me through the highs and lows, the freedom but uncertainty that comes with staking your career on something as volatile as Twitch subscriptions and follower counts. But his passion shone through and I could tell he was enjoying the ride. In the end, while our tech allegiances may differ, our friendship persists over a decade strong. I appreciated his unique lens as we caught up on life and dissected some meaty tech topics. What's up everybody! Welcome back to another episode of the What Are We Doing Podcast. I'm your host Levi McCurdy, and this week we have some crazy crypto crime stories to talk about. First up - the founders of SafeMoon have been charged by the Department of Justice with running a massive crypto fraud scheme. According to the indictment, SafeMoon lied to investors by claiming their funds were safely locked in pools to help the token's liquidity. In reality, the founders were secretly diverting tens of millions into their own pockets to fund lavish lifestyles. The SEC has filed similar civil charges against the company. SafeMoon's token was promoted by Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy and grew to have a market cap of over $8 billion in 2021. But it's since come crashing down after the Ponzi scheme was revealed. This is yet another cautionary tale about the risks of crypto speculation. The DOJ agent on the case called it "insatiable greed" - and that seems to be a perfect summary. Our other main story is the conviction of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried on 7 counts of fraud. The verdict came after a wild 4-week trial that gave us a fascinating look inside SBF's corrupt crypto empire. Prosecutors successfully argued that Bankman-Fried secretly misused billions in customer funds from FTX to make risky bets at his hedge fund Alameda Research. The government slammed his actions as one of the biggest financial frauds in history. Some crazy details emerged during the trial. We learned how SBF bought a $40 million penthouse for him and his inner circle in the Bahamas. And how he donated millions in FTX customer funds to political groups. One by one, SBF's close friends like Gary Wang and Caroline Ellison turned on him after pleading guilty themselves. Their testimony showed how Bankman-Fried directed the criminal activity despite publicly claiming innocence. SBF took the very risky move of testifying in his own defense. But he wilted under intense questioning from the prosecution, who used his past words against him. The "math nerd" defense clearly didn't convince the jury. Now he's facing decades in prison when he's sentenced in March. The downfall is just incredible for the guy who was the king of crypto just last year. His looming federal case. Will he be going to jail? Spoiler alert: probably not. But we sure had a good laugh at the idea of him sharing government secrets in the bathroom, all the while, holding onto the location of extraterrestrial life and hidden treasures.

What's more terrifying than aliens, you ask? How about orcas launching orchestrated attacks on ships and making surprise visits to the California coast? Who knew Free Willy had such a dark side? This gave "having a whale of a time" a whole new meaning.

Surprise! He's the 2024 Republican presidential nomination poster boy. This prompted CNN to air an hour-long town hall - a cringe-worthy rerun of 'Trump Show,' and a critique of CNN CEO Chris Licht’s plan to play Switzerland of news outlets. Licht's charm offensive to win back Republican viewers seems like bringing a squirt gun to a forest fire. The winners? Power-hungry right-wing mad hatters and those enduring fascism for a tax break. Picture this: Utahns wake up to find their beloved adult entertainment site, Pornhub, has gone AWOL, and they have their state legislators to thank for it. I can almost hear the collective sigh of disappointment echoing across the state.

State Sen. Todd Weiler, the man behind the legislation, received an earful from an angry Utah man whose dreams of accessing Pornhub were shattered. Weiler's bill, which goes into effect soon, forces porn sites to verify users' ages to keep minors away from adult content. If they don't comply, parents can sue these companies for damages.

In response, Pornhub took a bold stand and started blocking access to all Utah users. They even posted a statement (and a SFW video starring adult performer Cherie DeVille) explaining the situation. "Hey Utah, it's not us, it's your elected officials," they essentially said.

The adult entertainment giant argues that demanding ID cards for age verification isn't the most effective solution. It could actually put children and users' privacy at risk. Instead, Pornhub suggests using device-based verification for a safer, more private experience.

But until a better solution comes along, Utahns are left out in the cold as Pornhub disables access statewide. To rub salt in the wound, the company urges Utah residents to contact their representatives and demand better age verification methods. Good luck with that, folks!

It's worth noting that Utah isn't the only state to impose age verification laws. Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi have similar legislation, with ten other states considering proposals. So, what does this mean for the future of adult entertainment in the US?

In a bizarre twist, Pornhub's parent company, MindGeek, developed AgeID, one of Europe's leading age verification applications. That's right – the same company that's blocking Utahns has a solution to the problem in their back pocket.
