Nightmare Coach! But don't worry... They never kissed...

Nightmare Coach! But don't worry... They never kissed...

Hey everyone, instead of a normal description this time, I think it's best to let you know what is going on with the podcast. Yes, I know we have an audience of like 4, but still this has been a passion project between my daughter and I for the past nearly 2 years.

Unfortunately the passion has run out for my daughter Jade, this has caused the long lull in production of new episodes. I "think" we might have a replacement in my sister-in-law Amanda and possibly my brother-in-law Daniel. So please bear with us during this chaotic time.

As for the episode, this one I talk about Ashley Reeves and how she was strangled and left in the woods. Her attacker leads police to her body only.... it's not a body... I mean this IS what DIDN'T kill me after all...

Worst 2nd date EVER!

Worst 2nd date EVER!

If you think you've had a bad date, well the story of Danielle MacGuire and Daniel Zapp will put your worst date in startling perspective! Going for a walk in the park turned into a nightmare when both were kidnapped. They were driven to a river, where Danielle was sexually assaulted, then they were both forced to the river and shot.

Sounds like a pretty cut and dry case of a horrific murder doesn't it? But this is what DIDN'T kill me. So as miraculous as it may sound BOTH survive! Please join us after, a way too long of a break, as we finally publish this story we recorded months ago!

What a sticky situation!

What a sticky situation!

In this episode we discuss the world's only molasses flood, and we're not talking about just a warehouse here! We take you back to 1919 and an oh so safe molasses "receptacle" and how nothing can possibly go wrong storing 2 million gallons of molasses! Follow along some of these sticky situations and those that survived a 40 foot wave of syrupy doom! Including one brave 12 year old boy Anthony di Stasio, who manages to cling to safety for as long as his little arms would hold out.

Despite this cartoonish concept and the easy jokes (which of course we made due to the absurdity of the event) this is actually a horrific accident that cost a lot property damage and the lives of men, women, children and horses. We also want to point out, this takes place during the "Spanish Flu" and serves as an example of how a pandemic brings out the cartoon character in all of us! (We're looking at you 2020)

Out of the water and into the sky, a Hawaiian Extravaganza!

Out of the water and into the sky, a Hawaiian Extravaganza!

Welcome to our second season! Despite our tiny audience we had so much fun, we're doing another one. If you enjoy our humble little show and think someone you know would as well, please pass it on. Word of mouth is really the best way to grow our little audience. I'd also like to thank those of you who've been listening from the start we really appreciate it!

This episode is the scary story of Aloha Airlines flight 243, and how they managed to land with only three quarters of the plane remaining! We talk about the brave heroes Michelle Honda, who kept passengers calm even at the risk to her own wellbeing and First Officer Mimi Tompkins who helped bring the plane to safety.

Editor's Note: OMG! this is the 1st time I didn't have to spend 5x our run time making sure the audio was actually understandable! From here on out things should sound a lot better. Now... If only I could teach them microphone etiquette...

Three kid related stories and a special guest!

Three kid related stories and a special guest!

THIS WAS THE WORST EPISODE EVER!!! Sorry folks this description has been hijacked by the editor. I promise you'll survive my rant here about how it took me 6 hours to edit 30 minutes of sound much better than I did! Seriously! The fact this episode exists at all and wasn't tossed in to the big waste basket in the cloud is just further proof I'm too stubborn to quit. So please excuse the quality problem we had a death in the microphone family and the fact I could salvage this at all is a miracle. So.... I got everyone new microphones for Christmas!

I now return you to your regularly (or semi-regularly) scheduled description:

In this episode Jade talks about a bunch of kids stuck where the sun don't shine... a cave! Sylvia talks about a boy who saved his family from diving off a cliff! And our special guest, well... you'll just have to listen to find out!

911 the day or our podcast disaster?

911 the day or our podcast disaster?

Hello everyone! On today's episode we talk about 9-11... as you'll notice by the publication date of this episode (12-2-21) we are a "little" behind. Due to some time conflicts, family events, a family vacation and other normal mental breakdowns, we are about 3 months behind. But worry not dear listener I'm sure more chaos is yet to come! (I'm looking at you Omicron!)

On the upside, our 15th episode is already recorded! Let's just not talk about when it was recorded...

A lucky escape and an unlucky day!

A lucky escape and an unlucky day!

Join us as we talk about an amazing teenager named Marry Vincent, who survived a nightmare scenario despite all odds. We also discuss an unnamed man who survived being stalked and attacked over several days in "middle of nowhere" Alaska by a polar bear.

We're back... in the water!

We're back... in the water!

Yes, you read the title right, we are back in the water again! This week we discuss a tale that was first brought to our attention by a famous movie. The survivor story was the bases for Captain Quint's hatred and fear of sarks in "Jaws". I've been wanting to do this story for a long time as Jade is a HUGE fan of the movie. Then when she told the story about Tsutomu Yamaguchi, it sparked the recollection of the USS Indianapolis, so I of course had to tell that story!

We also discuss why we had to take a break from recording as Jade delt with Bell's palsy and was unable to speak properly. I guess in a way Jade survived not being able to talk for a few weeks, which if you knew her might be considered a true tragedy!

Lucky escapes in an explosive episode!

Lucky escapes in an explosive episode!

This episode is a "little" bit late. And by a little I mean over a month. We had a few medical issues and personal celebrations (congratulations to the newlyweds) that delayed our normal productions. Now that that is all over with, we hope to bring things back to normal. Sorry about the delay for those few of you who listen and thank you for your patience.

That being said, this episode includes one very lucky man, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who survived BOTH the nuclear bomb attacks on Japan during WWII; and a brave strong woman, Cheryl Thomas, who survived one of the nation’s most notorious serial killers.

A roller coaster of a ride back to surviving the ocean!

A roller coaster of a ride back to surviving the ocean!

This week we dive back into our favorite subject, the ocean. This is a story about how Harrison Odjegba Okene survived a harrowing sunken ship for more than 2 days as he awaited divers to rescue him. We also tell the story of Amanda Bostic who survived flying out of a roller coaster! We also have added a special outro for our podcast recorded by my son and husband who does his best to edit this podcast. I say it all the time but, please feel sorry for him folks we are still very much amateurs!

We survive 4 person recording with a single mic!

We survive 4 person recording with a single mic!

This week we did something a little different. We met in person with our guest host Michelle Williams for the first time! She and Darri Murphy, a masters degree nurse, discuss Covid-19 and Michelle's experience with surviving it. We had a lot of trouble with the sound in this episode. We are still armatures and were unprepared for the exponential increase in difficulty having 4 people in the same room with a single mic. Our editor did his best to clean it up, but, we apologize for the quality in some parts.

Saved by a daughter's distraction and a crested chicken!

Saved by a daughter's distraction and a crested chicken!

This week we discuss the harrowing kidnapping of Ethan Turner off of a school bus  and a plane crash that left Juliane Koepcke trapped in the Amazon for 11 days! I bet she was wishing they had 2 day delivery!

We discover our pattern of boats and cars!

We discover our pattern of boats and cars!

This week we talk about the unsinkable "Molly" Brown who survived the most famous ship wreck of all time. I'm sure you'll figure that one out... We also discuss Tanya Rider a woman who went missing for 8 days. You know, just "hanging out" waiting for law enforcement to do their jobs.

Please note we do take these cases seriously, we just try to use a bit of humor to lighten things up.

A fishing folly and a wayward wonderer!

Julian Hohnen and Jean Hilliard avoid their cold fates in this weeks tales of bravery, perseverance and bad directions!

Two stories for the price of one!

Two stories for the price of one!

Jade starts us off this week with the survival story of Jeanna Giese who is one of the first people to survive rabies. Sylvia then steps outsider her comfort zone and tells of an attack at an elementary school with a hero principal named Norina Bentzel.

Five episodes in and we finally were able to squeeze two stories in an episode as we had originally planned! We also managed to stay in the allotted time we planned. So all in all this could be considered our 5th or 1st depending on how you view it ;)

Security my ass!

Security my ass!

The incredible tale of how Jennifer Morey managed to fight off her assailant, despite her injuries, and remain clear-headed enough to call for help. Oh, and if you ever hear screaming for help in the night, call someone, do NOT just ignore it.

So... this is 2 days late. Sorry about that, did we mention we are new? Anyhow enjoy the episode!

Watch where you put your rod!

Watch where you put your rod!

Today we are discussing a survivor that may not be very well known in the True Crime Community, but is famous in the Psychology world for not only surviving his horrific accident but for how he lived in the years after it. More than likely if you have taken a psychology class then you have heard of a man by the name Phineas Gage. This is also our shortest episode yet! Which may or may not be a good thing... We're still getting our format down. Oh, and did we mention this is Jade's 1st story?

Don't yell shark unless there is one!

Don't yell shark unless there is one!

This week we talk about Paul De Gelder who survived a vicious shark attack that cost his arm and leg. He's known as a co-host on Discovery's Shark Week and one of the first survivors I thought of when I imagined this podcast. Also, don't worry this one isn't 2 hours long! :)

Trailer

Trailer

This is our very 1st go at a podcast! We made a trailer!!! (seriously, guys you have no idea how hard this was for us newbies!) This isn't representative of our format going forward but we wanted to get SOMETHING out there. So we made this to introduce ourselves and explain what our podcast will be about. (we also wanted to test our microphones, web services, new editing skills, etc.) It will also hopefully help to gather some interest. This whole thing is new to all of us and we welcome everyone to come on this journey with us!
