Whoretopia

By Tilly

Welcome to Whoretopia the podcast! This is going to be a space where we reimagine a new world by challenging the capitalistic, patriarchal values that dominate our society. Together we will rethink and reinvent our understanding of anything and everything, especially the institutions and ideologies that attempt to keep us in the margins. My name is Tilly and I will be guiding you all on this journey from my own anti-capitalist, intersectional feminist, sex-positive whore perspective. Fuck you pay me, lets get into it

OLD PROS x WHORETOPIA CROSSOVER: Interview with Kaytlin Bailey

This is the episode of Tilly’s dreams! In this special episode, Tilly has the pleasure of chatting to Kaytlin Bayley the host of the Oldest Profession podcast based in New York. Tilly and Kaytlin chat about what is the Old Pros project, the implications of existing as a sex worker in a society that criminalises your profession, SESTA/FOSTA and the ramifications on those restrictive policies globally, as well general chit chat about policing, migration and the realities of existing as a marginalised identity in a whorephobic world.

(Apologies for a few sound issues throughout the episode!)

SHE'S BACCCCKKKKK!!!!! In today's episode Tilly ditches the script and talks off the cuff about her journey into the industry. Tilly discusses her naivety in those first few months of working and the impact that those experiences have had on her activism and advocacy for the community. SUGARING WITH A SIDE OF SALT (Daddy)

SUGARING WITH A SIDE OF SALT (Daddy)

Welcome back to Season 2 of Whoretopia the Podcast! Today's episode is an extension on a story I shared on my Instagram page about a salt daddy I had the displeasure of meeting. It lead me to thinking about the concept of sugaring in a place where sex work is legal and how that works/makes any sense? The episode begins with a bit of an explanation as to what both sugar and salt daddy's are, and a brief discussion of how many of these men looking for a sugar baby are largely delusional, yet sensitive and often hold the most insane double standards. I don't waste too much time on the theory side of things as this episode will explore 3 different daddy's; 2 of whom were one offs and the last story is about a man i was in a long term arrangement with that didn't end well and i share the final conversation we shared. At the end of the episode I share some tips on making the most out of sugaring if, even after all this, you decide you want to enter the sugar bowl.

EXPLAINING THE MADONNA WHORE COMPLEX (through a psychoanalytical lens)

EXPLAINING THE MADONNA WHORE COMPLEX (through a psychoanalytical lens)

Cw: Mentions of violence against trans, POC and sex working women (also a very Freud heavy episode)

Tilly had a recent experience that reminded her of how men often perceive women as one-dimensional beings. So in today's episode, join Tilly as she explores the concept of the Madonna/Whore Complex from the psychoanalytic perspective. After briefly introducing psychoanalysis, and pondering some of the issues with social sciences, Tilly uses a Freudian concept to help explain how the MWC functions. Exploring Freud’s ideas of the different levels of consciousness and how they operate together, this concept will help shape the understanding of the MWC across different times and places. Tilly also delves into the way that this idea dehumanises women, especially non-white, non-cis women/femmes.

WHORES IN LOCKDOWN. ft non-binary sex wizard Alex Atlas

Are you curious how whores are handling lockdowns during this panini (pandemic)? Well, this is the episode for you! Tilly reaches out to her friend down south in the most locked down city in the world. Speaking to non-binary and POC worker Alex, Tilly and her guest explore a whole range of topics and discussions; from optimism during a global panini, what its like to date as a sex worker, all the way through to aging in the industry and choosing joy in this mess of a world that we live in. It’s a bit of a lengthy one, but Alex is eloquent, humble and full of empathy and I promise you’re going to enjoy this one.

(Hey Whores) WHY SO POLITICAL?

(Hey Whores) WHY SO POLITICAL?

CW: This episode contains discussions on domestic violence, femicide, sexual assault/rape

Ever wondered why whores are so political? Well in today’s episode, Tilly snaps out of her mental health break to discuss the politicisation of whores, both as a collective and on an individual level. She outlines 2 main reasons for this radicalisation and explores ideas such as humanism, consumerism and how algorithms work. She weaves through some of her personal anecdotes about entering the industry, working in an ‘acceptable’ (and degrading) job, as well as her own journey of activism.

Enjoy!

INSIDE TILLYS MIND RIGHT NOW [+bonus whore story]

INSIDE TILLYS MIND RIGHT NOW [+bonus whore story]

This episode is a little different from the heavily theoretical episodes so far, as Tilly briefly chats about where her head is at at the present time. She explains a little of the origin story of Whoretopia, and why shes not currently releasing episodes every week. Its a little step into Tilly's mind, as she sits through Sydney's second lockdown. There is also a bonus extended version of the whore story that Tilly shared at the recent 'The Intro Room' event run by fellow sex workers. Its a wholesome story about the complexities of the client/provider relationship as Tilly shares her response to a client who tells her he respects her TOO much to fuck her in a brothel.

TILLY GOES INTERNATIONAL ft. Vixen Temple Blog (NZ)

TILLY GOES INTERNATIONAL ft. Vixen Temple Blog (NZ)

[APOLOGIES FOR THE AUDIO QUALITY, THIS EPISODE WAS RECORDED USING MY LAPTOP MIC]

Today's Whoretopia episode was recorded in Aotoreoa (NZ) and features our first guest: Vixen Temple Blog! Join Tilly and Vixen as they mourn the loss of Vixen Temple Blog's Instagram account, and discuss the double edged sword that is social media. We chat about what it means to have a big platform with a large following and the pressure that comes with that. Internet privilege, dehumanisation, virtue signalling and lateral violence are just some of the topics we managed to cover in this fun episode recorded on the 4th of May.

It was great to have a guest on the show, and we really had a fun time together! If you enjoyed this episode, let me know who else you would like to hear in future Whoretopia episodes.

Enjoy!

THE BREAKDOWN PART 3: SEX POSITIVITY (ft. rape culture)

THE BREAKDOWN PART 3: SEX POSITIVITY (ft. rape culture)

CW: This episode contains discussions on violence against women, sexual assault/harassment and rape

After 2 months off Tilly is back and ready to break down both the what and the why of sex positivity. Much like the first 2 episodes, an historical approach to our current understandings of sex will take a look at who was authorised to speak on, and regulate both sex and sexuality. This episode will look at a range of reasons why sex positivity is urgently needed and will focus a part on understanding rape culture, heteronormativity and the queer liberation movement. As usual there will be specific discussions that focus on sex work and the idea of consent, as well as understanding the hierarchy of sex (Gayle Rubin). This third episode will bring in the ideas from the first two episodes so I highly recommend listening to those before diving into episode 3!

Enjoy!

THE BREAKDOWN PART 2: INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM (ft. history of patriarchy)

THE BREAKDOWN PART 2: INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM (ft. history of patriarchy)

NB: In the episode I said that women got the right to vote in 1920. I need to point out that only WHITE WOMEN were granted the vote (in the US) in 1920.

Welcome back to part 2 of the break down mini-series where we will take a dive into the importance of intersectional feminism. To understand why we need feminism, we need to recognise the power dynamics that exist within a patriarchal society. This episode will go through a brief history of patriarchy and investigate the context in which patriarchy emerged. With modernity and the rise of capitalism we see how the perception of women has changed over time and how throwing women under the metaphorical bus has served to strengthen the patriarchal beast.

Intersectional feminism is extremely important in our globalised society and this episode will explore the basic idea of intersectionality within the feminist framework and why it is so important for political and social movements. We explore this idea by looking at the different waves of feminism that occurred in the 20th century and the implications of failing to take on an intersectional approach.

Enjoy!

THE BREAKDOWN PART 1: CAPITALISM

THE BREAKDOWN PART 1: CAPITALISM

Welcome to the very first episode of Whoretopia the podcast! The first three episodes will be part of a mini-series called the break down, where your host will break down common concepts that many of us use on a daily basis. The first part of this mini series will focus on capitalism.  But before diving straight into capitalism, I briefly discuss what Whoretopia is, and describe some of the aspects I'm looking for in my utopian dream.

So what exactly is capitalism? How do you explain it? Tilly to the rescue! In the first episode of Whoretopia, I discuss the emergence of capitalism in the 17th century, and the strict gender roles that continue to organise our social hierarchy.  Capitalism is an economic structure that has come to dominate every aspect of contemporary society. Much of the stigma and discrimination that sex workers face can be linked back to the capitalist system. This episode will focus on the context in which capitalism was able to flourish and impact of the dominant system on contemporary 21st century society.

Enjoy!
