It was just like any other work day in Oshawa, Ontario when a plumber was called to a rental home to fix a clogged drain. After locating the blockage, he began to snake the drain. But what should have been a quick fix, turned into hours. It wasn’t about how it was taking so long; It was about what he was pulling out. The unknown substance was so disturbing, the plumber called 911. Because he believed what he was pulling out…was human flesh. It would only be three months later when Ben’s horse would be found in the backcountry 15 miles from his ranch, dressed in full tack... but Ben was nowhere to be found.

For this story, we're going back to 2012 in Victoria, British Columbia, where Emma Fillipoff was starting a new life for herself in a brand new city. In 1981, 23-year-old Diane Werendowicz was murdered on her short walk home after leaving a local bar one night in Hamilton, Ontario. But her case goes cold for 17 years. It wasn’t until the advances in DNA forensics and an old piece of audio that investigators could finally name a suspect. But even with DNA and one piece of audio, does it really tell us what happened? This proved to be the issue at trial, which led this case to be the most trials for the same 1st degree murder in Canada. Would you be able to identify a voice from 17 years ago?
