I Flip-Flop on Cannabis Banking + Great Bank Bonus Deals Out There

I Flip-Flop on Cannabis Banking + Great Bank Bonus Deals Out There

I very rarely am anti-customer as you can tell by my content, but a local El Paso TV report about how over 100 cannabis dispensaries have NOT paid their State of NM taxes last year, has made me change my mind on allowing them to bank. Taxing pot has long been a talking point for pro-cannabis folks in their fight to legalize pot.

While I am pro-legalization, and am happy new small businesses are popping up everywhere, I would say to be cautious before allowing them to bank just based on this news about the lack of tax paying. I feel seeking that business is more trouble than its worth, and I explain why.

Plus, I talk about some awesome bank bonus offers out there, and why I plan to do a couple, and why you should do too, especially if you are looking to switch banks

Goldman Sachs Wants Nothing To Do With You Scrubs and Your Apple Cards + Book Announcement!

According to an article in the WSJ and Gizmodo, Goldman Sachs, the humongous Mega-Bank, wants out of the Apple Card and Apple Savings business. Facing tough earnings this week, a lot of people who are familiar with GS expect them to try to offload them to another bank, likely AmEx.

In this podcast, I will talk about how I predicted that Apple Card would succeed like the GS and Apple CEOs said it would in changing how we use cards, although Covid had a big part of that as well. I also talk about how the bread and butter of GS is hedge funds, big companies, and rich a-holes, so the fact they want to dabble in little $500 credit cards never made sense to me. I discuss how they saw an opportunity, but realized it wasn't worth their time.

I saw it coming in 2019! :)

Plus, I talk about my new book, "Predicando" out November 13th, and how you can purchase it and help a worthy cause! :)

MyPillow Guy Gets Credit Line Cut At AmEx: Why It Is Banks Being Banks and NOT Political + BofA Pay Raise Evergreen Segment

MyPillow Guy Gets Credit Line Cut At AmEx: Why It Is Banks Being Banks and NOT Political + BofA Pay Raise Evergreen Segment

Mike Lindell, the loud, creepy guy who owns MyPillow and is known for his 2020 Election crusade or misadventures, wherever you come from, had his AmEX credit line slashed from $1 Million to $100,000. He cites politics as the reason American Express did it. As I have mentioned in many podcasts before, it's NEVER about politics, because banks want to make money with you. It is however something where if the line he was referring to has a points/miles/rewards system, and his successes selling old people foam pillows makes him millions, and he uses the line to funnel the purchases through there for free travel/cash back/etc and pays in full, banks HATE that, and that is likely the reason why it happened. They are losing money on his relationship so they try to cut ties. I explain why without defending the man. He can defend himself.

Plus, my yearly Bank of America is giving a pay raise tweet. I explain how an announcement several years ago of a $25/hr minimum wage would have been awesome if they had just started paying them the raise when announced instead of making a press release spectacle out of it every damn year. Ugh.

How a Sign About Staffing Issues At a Local Starbucks Changed My Perception of Management

How a Sign About Staffing Issues At a Local Starbucks Changed My Perception of Management

Trying something different today. I am doing a podcast about something I would do a column on.

The Starbucks near my house, inside a grocery store has not been open during the hours you would expect a coffee shop to be open lately. I am assuming it was staff going back to school and not being able to do morning shift. Last few times I have gone to that store, a homemade sign was taped to the door (I hate homemade signs btw) informing the customers of the store, "Due to lack of certified staff at Starbucks, we would be closed today" and in another case, opening late.

The wording is such that it actually doesn't give me closure as a consumer advocate and customer service expert. It actually makes me thing of more questions, and for someone not enlightened as me, it gets them mad, which means they get mad at staff that is working at the store, or worse yet, take it out on future baristas who are hired to make sure the sign never exists again. It's a weird quandry, and I just wanted to talk it out to you, and give you a podcast.

The Business of Dying: How My Grandpa's Death Has Spawned 2 Auto-Related Customer Experiences

My grandpa passed on July 16th, and what I can help with, I have helped from afar in Las Cruces, NM, 150 miles away, with my mom handling the bulk of the issues.

But she calls me out of the blue the other day and tells me that First Financial Credit Union who holds my grandpa's car note is demanding immediate payment without allowing his estate to go through probate.

Also, Melloy Nissan told my mom to take the car into the dealership to fix an issue that was on a recall notice. The car was not driveable, so she paid $400 for a tow. Melloy in Albuquerque, 80 miles away says they can't help her with the recall repair and to pick up her car. Since Gramps died, she hasn't had time, so Melloy is threatening her with "Storage Fees" if she isn't going to pick it up any time soon. Dude...

Predicando Zamora 1937-2023 - Navigating the Business Side of Losing a Loved One - Banks and Funeral Homes

I lost my Grandpa Candy last Sunday. He was 85. While of course we prep for the end always, it is never easy when it gets here. In this podcast, I share a couple personal stories about the day he passed, and the day after, which saw some interesting things at a local bank in Socorro NM where my cousins work and the bank felt a little...off.

Plus I also talk about the sales pitches of being a funeral arranger, and how it is something I could never do because of my past experiences. You will enjoy this podcast... Listen in honor and respect of my Grandfather.

RIP Candy Zamora.

Emergency Podcast: Bank of America Fined $250 Million for Stuff for Shady Things…Shocker.

Live from Fort Worth, a very truncated Emergency Podcast about Bank of America.

Bank of America fined $200 Million by CFPB for unauthorized credit card accounts, double dipping fees, and so so much more.
CFPB Article Here

In this podcast, I explain that most of this had to have been when I was still there (I left in 2018) because aside from allegedly no sales goals now, BofA has internal controls in branches that almost eliminate this problem on a grand scale. While it still happens, I think a lot of this comes from years ago when the Customer Authorization Form was not a thing for bankers and they had checks and balances to get them and their bosses fired. It's a quick 30m podcast on my iPhone, check it out!

The BigBankification of Smaller Banks and Credit Unions + Consumer Beast: Panda Express

I am back from a hiatus!

Thanks for everyone who asked me, "James... Where's your podcast?"

Been busy and working through some writer's block issues, but I am here to talk about things I love...Like arguing about shitty customer service.

First, we will talk about how a local CU near my house ripped out the Drive-Up mechanisms, installed full-service ATMs in its place, and became everything those small bank clients hated about a place like my former bank. I will explain how post-COVID, poor customer service has crept into smaller institutions, impacting their once proud reputation as being different that most banks!

Plus, I describe an incident I had at Panda Express where I discovered that associates there fudge their wait time numbers to make it look like they are more efficient at the detriment of their clients, myself included. I am going to describe how a mobile order was allegedly put together and ready in two minutes, yet 15 minutes later when I arrived, my order was never started. I explain the managerial bad habits that led to something like this. I promise it is interesting.

Silicon Valley Bank Fails - Feds Take Over Bank with $200 Billion in Assets

Silicon Valley Bank Fails - Feds Take Over Bank with $200 Billion in Assets

Crazy Breaking News:

Silicon Valley Bank, a bank with hundreds of billions of assets, went into FDIC Receivership today, after a run on the bank starting yesterday, led by Peter Thiel and his VC Buddies. This left this bank reeling and the feds to come in midday (normally wait until end of business) and take over this bank. People's money will be available in 3 days, but needless to say this is a huge fall for this bank. Whoa. Blows my mind.

Will have more on a future podcast but this one explains what it means for the laymen. Thank you so much!

Bank of America's Role with the Washington Commanders Story + BofA Sued for Misrepresenting PPP Loan Guidelines

Bank of America's Role with the Washington Commanders Story + BofA Sued for Misrepresenting PPP Loan Guidelines

Back from a mini-sabbatical as I write my NMSU Basketball book to get it out ASAP.

I discuss Bank of America's role in Don Van Natta's AWESOME story about the turmoil with the Washington Commanders team and the beef minority owners had with the main owner, Dan Snyder. At the center is a $55 Million Loan that Snyder took out with the NFL's backing without informing his partners, which is leading to an even bigger beef, and also has the feds looking into Snyder for falsifying information.

Don can handle the NFL side of things, but I wanted to give my two cents worth on BofAs role, and how they likely felt pressured to do the loan without proper paperwork justifying the loan as to not lose trust in Snyder, his team or the NFL as a whole. I explain why the paperwork matters. I give an example of how an LLC signer can theoretically steal from his partners by creating another LLC and move money elsewhere, and the bank would not be on the hook for it.

Plus, I talk about a lawsuit that alleges BofA gave incorrect information to business owners who applied for PPP Loans in 2020. American Banker has the story. (Paywalled, but you can read it for free with an email address) It was said in the complaint that the business owners were told 1099 employees were included in the calculating of PPP Loans, when they are not, leading to people not getting their whole loan forgiven as a result of information. I explain why businesses have an uphill battle to fight on this one, although I explain how BofA used branch employees working from home during COVID to test PPP Loans, when that was not their field of expertise. I also explain how goals/high sales pressure tactics likely had a hand in it as well.

800mL - My Plasma Donation Saga

800mL - My Plasma Donation Saga

As a lot of you know, I have been on sabbatical from my podcast and social media availability because I'm  currently writing a book about NMSU Men's Basketball and a couple other things. Plasma donations are part of my supplemental income, and I have become a huge advocate for the process since I started donating 20 years ago. Recently, changes in center policy have caused the equipment to screen individuals of their vitals before they donate to be switched out. A $1000 BP monitor/Temp Checker was replaced by a shoddy $70 available on Amazon to everyone BP monitor with 1 star reviews as far as the eye can see. My arms are 19 inches wide. The cuff is rated for 16.9".

The machine they are using takes batteries. They use rechargeable batteries which are not powerful enough to use consistently on the equipment and are also not recommended by the company who makes the machine.  Yet, I am getting deferred based on all these factors, causing a huge dent in my income. As someone who fights for the little guy usually, this seems like something so easy to discuss, but as of right now, it has become a point of contention in my life.

I have dedicated almost 11,000 words to it on my substack.
I created a website for the content:
800-ml.com  which is the amount of plasma that is taken out of me with every donation.

Listen to me work through my frustration and try to find common ground to dispute this issue with. I am so frustrated. Back with a bank themed pod this week!

Crazy week. Thanks for following!

Biden Seeks to Limit Credit Card Late Fees - Banks Have Lame Excuse Defending Them + Boy Band Member Posthumously Sued by Wells Fargo

First off.

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY SUBSTACK. I talk Bad Banks, Unethical Businesses and more in a Hilarious Way.
Free of Charge. Tons of content.

The Biden Admin. has proposed capping CC Late Fees to $8 per missed payment from as much as $41. It is in an effort to reduce or eliminate "Junk Fees". Big banks and their lobbying arms claim that lowering the fee will encourage more late payments and cause people bad credit.

Umm.. Ok?

I discuss how ridiculous that is, plus I compromise by proposing something that will help both banks and consumers in my eyes!

WSJ Article

Plus, I touch on a story I read online the other day. Pop Star Aaron Carter, who passed away recently is having his estate sued by Wells Fargo for nonpayment of $2800+ credit line. I briefly explain how the business of death is something that a lot of people don't know about and I give examples.

Bank of America Makes Money Disappear With Zelle - My National TV Debut - Zelle Creating Payment Wallet For People to get Scammed a New Way

First and foremost:

Subscribe to my new Substack called "Consumer Beast"
I will discuss bank issues in longform there, plus I will also rant about customer service issues in other fields!

Now, let's get to the business at hand. Wednesday, January 18th, Bank of America had a major outage with Zelle, causing transfers that happened the previous four days to reverse, leading to negative balances and missing money.

It was one of the biggest social media days of my existence, with some posts getting tens of thousands of views on Twitter and hundreds of new followers.
I was able to make a debut on a national newscast as a "consumer advocate" and banking expert talking about it. Thank You Scripps News!

I also was able to do a long form interview on a Youtube show called The Plainest Jane!

Time Article about the story
Yahoo News Article about the story
My blog was cited in the Daily Dot's story as well

I discuss what I think happened, and how BofA being apathetic to clients is par for the course here. It was ridiculous.

Plus more news about EWS, The parent company with Zelle. They made a prediction of mine true. They are rolling out a payment wallet which will compete with Apple Pay and Paypal. Integrating customers bank cards in the app, The new unnamed Zelle Wallet will let clients pay for things directly through them. I am skeptical about the adoption of this by clients, coupled with the poor customer service with Zelle fraud that currently exists. I discuss why.

Chase Bank Calls Police on Wall Street Journal Reporter in Phoenix + Wells Fargo Executive Arrested for Urinating on an Airplane... What?!?!

Chase Bank Calls Police on Wall Street Journal Reporter in Phoenix + Wells Fargo Executive Arrested for Urinating on an Airplane... What?!?!

Happy 2023!

We lead with the story of Dion Rabouin, an awesome WSJ reporter who was in Phoenix with family over the holidays when he decided to do work on a story about low interest rates on savings accounts at big banks. The Chase bank he went to on 12038 N 32nd St in Phoenix asked him what he was doing. He told him. They said nothing. They called their corporate security and then they called the cops where an overzealous idiot detained Dion for 15 minutes despite never being asked to leave or anything.

I discuss the role the branch had, but mainly how "The telephone game" with corporate security led to this, and how similarities to the Ryan Coogler incident are obvious with lazy lazy employees not actually trying to understand what was going on. I break it down like no one else can.

Story from CNN

Video from incident

Plus, I dive into the story of Wells Fargo executive Shankar Mishra, arrested in India on charges he urinated on a 70 year old woman in a flight from New York to New Dehli and how WF did something right for a change. I discuss how ridiculous this story was.

Emergency Podcast - Wells Fargo Fined $4 Billion for Consumer Violations - What Does This Mean?

Big news in the world of banking today. Wells Fargo, who set aside $2 Billion last quarter to cover any potential penalties that the CFPB would impose on them, got hit with 2x that amount, $3.7 Billion for those violations in a stunning news release by CFPB

Read CFPB Release Here.

Denying mortgage modifications, charging surprise overdraft fees, and illegally repossessing vehicles are just the tip of the iceberg with Wells Fargo, who was called out for not fixing their issues fast enough.

AP Article from Ken Sweet

CFPB Head Rohit Chopra's Tweet Thread

In this podcast, I discuss the situation, how the things they got in trouble for have been seen by me for years while a bank manager. I discuss the lackadaisical attitude they have about this, and I discuss how the neediest people who got hit with fees might never see a penny of this.

I also make the bold prediction that CEO Charles Scharf may not survive into 2023. Listen now!

Brian Moynihan of BofA - 5th in line for POTUS? Wtf? Plus, Bank of America Finally Declares Dislike for Crypto

Thanks for listening.

I start the podcast off with a book update, and another book idea that has popped up.

Next, I discuss how Brian Moynihan, CEO of Bank of America, has a lot of buzz that he may be the next Treasury Sec. if Janet Yellen leaves. Charles Gasparino with the scoop tweet on 12-9. I discuss how mind blowing that is, how of course Joe Biden's former nickname "Senator from MBNA" comes into play, an why I think he wouldn't leave BofA for it, simply because of pay reasons, and I use Howard Stern as my example of why I feel that way.

Fox Business Article about Moynihan potentially being Treasury Sec

Plus, I talk about a Brian Moynihan appearance on Neil Cavuto's show where he mentions how Bank of America isn't "for" cryptocurrencies, despite us knowing BofA has 200-300 blockchain patents. I discuss how he alludes to the current paying system and how it is great, and why they small percentage interchange fees that banks get from debit/credit card make it unlikely for a major bank to embrace crypto so deeply. I also talk about my crappy work experience having to rat out pimply faced teens for dabbling in crypto while at BofA.

Emergency Pod: Zelle Allegedly Working on Refunding Fraud Victims - In Other News, Pigs Still Currently Not Flying

Emergency Pod: Zelle Allegedly Working on Refunding Fraud Victims - In Other News, Pigs Still Currently Not Flying

This came out of left field today.

According to David Benoit and AnnaMaria Andriotis of the WSJ,  Zelle is purportedly creating a "playbook" for banks and themselves to have systems to refund victims of Zelle fraud, particularly the "me to me" scam that has been going on for years.

In this emergency podcast, I will tell you everything that is wrong with this supposed thing Zelle is doing. I don't believe them for one second, and I will explain in detail. Whether it is simply the fact that the money has to come from SOMEWHERE, it means banks are going to incur "policy losses" in the millions of dollar range for someone who may not even be their own client who got their money stolen using a banks account that also may have been a victims account? Makes no sense.

I also explain how typos not being covered as a means of refunding tells me how ridiculous this all is, and I explain how "mobile phone data" that Zelle claims to be using to get these refunds out has already been used by banks for years to deny people's claims.

This is all so ridiculous, and I spell it out for you in this podcast. Thanks for listening!

Twitter is Hard to Use for Me, Wells Fargo "Payday Loans", and SBF/FTX/WTF/BS

Sorry about the long layoff... I was sick with COVID :(

In today's episode, I discuss how since Elon took over, it has been impossible to do my "The Notorious Banker" work because of people trolling Elon, BofA for lending Elon and a bunch of pointless convos. It seems hard to get a couple of simple things completed, especially when it comes to helping people.

Then, I briefly talk about Wells Fargo offering a short-term loan product, which can be $250 or $500. I discuss how the criteria used to approve you for the loans seems broken as all hell. I also discuss how they possibly might not report to the credit bureaus which makes no sense to lenders. It mimics a BofA product which recently came out, and it is just as bad, if not worse!

(Article about Wells Fargo Loan Product in Charlotte Observer)

Finally, a final rant about SBF and FTX. Why I feel no sympathy for those who lost money, because they were basically playing all-in poker with their life savings every day with a volatile crypto market... I expand on that briefly in the segment.

Equifax Breaches Privacy Again To Fire Employees + Fargo? WTF?

Equifax Breaches Privacy Again To Fire Employees + Fargo? WTF?

We talk about something that is not really a bank issue. Equifax fired a lot of employees who were found to have second jobs. Apparently, they used their own patented software to spy on their own employees. I talk about how moonlighting is becoming more common and how I had a couple coworkers who did stuff like this at a smaller scale, but only getting written up, not fired.

Plus, we talk about Wells Fargo keeping up with the Joneses, and introducing their BofA "Erica" rip-off "Fargo".
First off.. Why Fargo? What kind of name is that? I discuss the lies big banks tell in introducing the virtual assistant to their consumers.

Kanye Kicked Out of Chase + Crime Incidents Outside of Branch Can Lead to People Being Unbanked

Yes, We talk about the Kanye/Chase thing... Reluctantly.
I mainly focus on why the people who are protesting this move by Chase are the same people who ignored when this happens to others not as rich or famous. I discuss what it possibly MAY have been to cause this breakup, and I discuss the uniqueness of this case.

Plus, I talk about how some recent high profile criminal acts just outside of bank branches in California may actually cause more people to be unbanked as a result of it. In the last couple of days, we had a person try to blow up a Bank of America ATM in Palmdale, CA, and there was a shooting of an armored car employee at another BofA in the Carson, CA. The scary thing? Unrelated crimes that have a solid bond: How changing bank procedures and pushes caused this indirectly! I explain why.

US Bank Bribes People With Milk Money to use Zelle + I try a Compromise with Zelle. Really.

US Bank Bribes People With Milk Money to use Zelle + I try a Compromise with Zelle. Really.

In this podcast I discuss an offer I found through US Bank where the bank is offering select clients $5, yes FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS to use Zelle 2x. What I see as a lacking gesture is also a way to fudge the numbers of "alternative ways to bank" to justify limiting staff and branches going forward. Giving clients a small pittance in order for you to save millions over the years sounds like a bet US Bank wants to take.

I discuss how even people on the Right side of the aisle should heed the calls from their financial experts on the radio that Zelle is bad news so we can all band together and fight back against Zelle.  Hey, at least that $5 will offset the $3,000 you lose through ZELLE Fraud lol

Link to deal here

Plus, I try to compromise with Zelle. I think you all know by now that I am writing a book on this topic, and frankly, there are a lot of things that I see that no one else is seeing. While I want it to go away permanently, I know that may not be practical, so I discuss in the second segment a compromise that will allow Zelle to operate, protect at-risk clients, and still make it instant for them to send family money while protecting them and the banks as a whole. Yes, I tried hard to reason... Hear me out on the segment

Bank CEOs Go To Congress and the Wackiness Ensues - Part 1

One topic today:

SENATE BANKING HEARING (3 HOURS LONG)

House BANKING HEARING (7 HOURS LONG)

Bank CEOs were on Capitol Hill for 2 days this week talking to the House and Senate Banking Oversight Committees.

There were a wide range of topics from Climate to Inflation to Gas Station ATMs.

I curated a few clips about Zelle, fees, Bitcoin, Questionable Ethical Job Hirings, and some of the funnier moments.

There most certainly will be a second part to this podcast, but this one breaks down what I spent 12 hours watching!!!

Kanye West, Bank of America Sabbaticals (Why I Think They Are BS), and Bank Getting Sued for Refusing to Cash Slot Winnings Check

Kanye West, Bank of America Sabbaticals (Why I Think They Are BS), and Bank Getting Sued for Refusing to Cash Slot Winnings Check

Hello Everyone.

First off, we briefly discuss Kanye West's statement on CNBC yesterday where he said he is leaving Chase for Bank of America because CEO of Chase Jamie Dimon didn't call him when he made a $140 Million Deposit

Then we get into a very deep story. Bank of America will offer "sabbaticals" of up to 6 weeks to longtime employees to combat burnout. While it sounds good on the surface, I can tell you this is a horrible idea. Sales goals don't prorate, so some of the most stressed out people in retail will have MORE stress when taking leave to COMBAT STRESS. WTF?

I talk about my own struggles with mental health while at BofA.

Check out the article on Bloomberg by Katherine Doherty

Then a weird story. CNN Reports a woman in her 70s was suing Fifth Third Bank for refusing to Negotiate a check she got for hitting a slot jackpot. In the article, the author uses "cash" and "deposit" very loosely, so it is really confusing and doesn't allow for more context, but the lawsuit alleges discrimination based on race. The check in question was for $12,000.

While I think race could have played a factor in this, I think this is more lazy-ass bankers not wanting to do more research to properly help a client more than anything. A simple call to verify would have helped immensely, or even a conversation stating the check would need a couple days to clear, not refusing it outright for fraud and refusing to give it back. I explain in the final segment.

Wells Fargo Targeting Adult Content Creators: Why? (A frank discussion) + Bank of America No Down Payment Home Loan for...Rich People?

Wells Fargo Targeting Adult Content Creators: Why? (A frank discussion) + Bank of America No Down Payment Home Loan for...Rich People?

Long week talking about the new Bank of America Home Loan Program, Which we will also do here! (Ugh)

First off,

Interesting article in Rolling Stone and Reporter EJ Dickson, who profiled a lot of Adult Film actresses who had their bank accounts closed out by Wells Fargo. I have done podcasts many times referring to the "business decisions" that banks make when they no longer want to do business with you, and here it is no exception.

I am going to be honest with you. This is a frank conversation about adult content, my preferences, and the reasons why banks will see things as a "risk" and basically blame content creators for the horny, cloudy decisions of idiot guys.

I get into what limitations it has for these people in the adult industry and basically how it can lead to millions of content creators being banished from banking simply based on the taste preferences of the risk department.

Had the opportunity to briefly talk to adult content creator and activist Alana Evans on Twitter about this, which I also discuss.

Plus

Here I go again. I talk about the Bank of America No Down Payment, No Closing Costs mortgages, and how in my opinion it is technically a program to fast-track people who are more well-off to get into home loans a little easier, with a $10k Down Payment grant from BofA. The reason I came to this conclusion was the crazy income cap in Dallas. $131,000 for a city where the median home value is $350k conservatively. To me, someone making that amount of money likely doesn't need a special program, but BofA is using a little known FDIC Special program to push this broken product to preferred clients, all in the guise of helping communities and people of color. I break down in granular detail what I mean.

Plus, I reference a CNBC Story that makes it sound like it's only for minorities, which set off a lot of people, only to say the total opposite thing within the story. It's really confusing.

Bank of America Promises Black and Hispanic People No Down Payment No Credit Score Minimum Mortgages: Why I Think It Is BS

Bank of America Promises Black and Hispanic People No Down Payment No Credit Score Minimum Mortgages: Why I Think It Is BS

Bank of America blew me away today with the stupidest thing I ever saw.

Bank of America announced a plan to help Black and Hispanic people get into home loans in 5 markets, where frankly, the median home prices are insane. The markets are Charlotte, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami and Detroit. Bank of America is promising no minimum credit score, no mortgage insurance, and validation of eligibility can be an on-time phone bill and car insurance premium.

NEWS RELEASE HERE

However, they mention income and location will determine eligibility, which to me sounds like people will be stuck in neighborhoods they want to get out of. I also discuss how BofA is doing this now while interest rates are 2-3% higher than they have been with the possibility of going even HIGHER in the next few months. I also talk about the cost of these locations and unless you are making more than BofA's minimum wage, you probably couldn't afford a home with a median price in these markets.

I then talk about the false promises this bank is doing to communities of color, especially what's going on here. It's a crazy story.

More EDD Fraud in California That BofA Refused to Fix + 4 Years Fired: My Liberation Day

https://abc7news.com/bank-of-america-bofa-denies-edd-claim-fraud-debit-card-denial/12154468/

Hey, guess what? Another EDD Fraud case where Bank of America denied a client. Man had $15k stolen from his account with crooks using the old school transfers page to send $15k total over 3 accounts. Bank of America denied Alfredo Mancilla 3 times. He then called Michael Finney, who we have talked about many times on the pod, and within hours, he got Alfredo's money back, because BofA are a bunch of.... you know.

I talk about how BofA saw this as a vanity project and it led to them wanting to leave EDD altogether!

Then I talk about my 4 years anniversary of being fired from Bank of America with a little rant about where I am going with my project. I am so excited for the future! :)

Zelle Book Update + PGA Star's Family Impacted By Zelle + Bank of America Closes Lobby of My Old Bank, Impacting Disability Payment Recipients

Zelle Book Update + PGA Star's Family Impacted By Zelle + Bank of America Closes Lobby of My Old Bank, Impacting Disability Payment Recipients

Hello Everyone!

Reminder that I am working on a book about Zelle due to come out really soon. Stay tuned for that. It's going to be funny, thought-provoking and hard-hitting all in one.

In this podcast, I discuss a tweet from PGA Star Brian Gay who tweeted that his daughter was a victim of Zelle Fraud while at Bank of America with BofA doing nothing to help her. I discuss the misconceptions of FDIC insurance "protecting" you, how and why BofA should help solely off the success of Brian's golf career and discuss what we always do: How Zelle is the worst thing out there.

Plus, I discuss my old BofA branch in Las Cruces NM having their lobby closed for the week last week, which was the first week of the month. I describe how all the fixed income people who needed their cash for the bills were unable to be helped. While a drive up lane was open to clients, BofA also removed 3 lanes of Drive Up a couple years ago, and on a busy 1st or 3rd of the month, about a 1000 people a day show up. They couldn't have helped more than 100 per day that week

I discuss the weak leadership in that market!

CFPB Fines US Bank Lunch Money For "Fake Account" Scandal - Why it's NOT like Wells Fargo!

CFPB Fines US Bank Lunch Money For "Fake Account" Scandal - Why it's NOT like Wells Fargo!

2 Podcasts in 3 days. Just like pandemic times.

I am doing an "emergency" podcast to discuss the CFPB fining US Bank, based in Minnesota, $37.5 Million for issues pertaining to unauthorized accounts (some call them 'fake accounts') for customers between 2010 and 2016. This is in line with the timeframe of the Wells Fargo stuff.

I read the press release which I chuckle at for many reasons.

  • How there is such disgust over "sales goals" for associates. I hated sales goals, but it seems like fake outrage, because every job has goals to it. Every bank, even beloved credit unions, have goals.
  • How this fake account scandal seemed to target rich people and high-end products, that have annual fees like the $400 Premier Credit Card. If it was widespread, a lot of low-end cards would have been sold as deeply. This sounds like an isolated group of people selling to a small amount of wealthy clients who likely didn't know any better until someone else told them this was "fake".
  • The Lameness of the CFPB Victim Fund, which sounds to me like no one is getting this money who was affected by it!

CBS News Article about it

I also talk about conflating it to Wells. Wells Fargo and US Bank here are nothing alike, because WF targeted everyone, and US Bank here seems to only focus on high end clients and high end products which helped escalate pay...

This is an interesting story that needed context instead of trying to equate it with WF!

Zelle Fraud and BofA Apathy Strike in Beantown + Bank of America Sets Aside $200 Million for "Personal Device" Issue

Zelle Fraud and BofA Apathy Strike in Beantown + Bank of America Sets Aside $200 Million for "Personal Device" Issue

Sorry about the delay.

I am working on a Zelle book and it has been hard to record.

Ironically my first topic is about Zelle.
WCVB in Boston had a story about a local man who was attacked by cyber criminals who commandeered his online banking to send themselves $3000 via Zelle from his online banking despite his texts not authorizing the transaction. Ben Simmoneau, the reporter, got the money back for this man and had a nuanced point about Reg E, which is supposed to protect customers from fraud. Bank of America of course did nothing UNTIL the news story came out...like always.

Plus I talk about BofA Earnings, and how a $400MM amount was set aside to take care of 2 settlements. First one was something we talked about. $225MM fine for Unemployment issues. The other $200MM? For improper use of personal devices. I discuss the grey area that bankers have with customers info and talking amongst themselves. During WFH in 2020 with COVID sending people home to work, a lot likely happened to warrant this potential fine, which I believe ended up causing people to go back into the office more than anything else that was going on.

Plus, I discuss the direction of my BofA book in light of recent events that happened in my life!

Update on Caroline's Zelle Situation + The Notorious Banker Saves His 3rd Home!

Update on Caroline's Zelle Situation + The Notorious Banker Saves His 3rd Home!

Our friend Caroline, who we met through social media posts made by Professional Wrestling Superstars is still fighting with Bank of America as of now. She was the victim of fraud using Zelle, and Bank of America is not only not helping her, but blaming her for their gaping holes in the product.

The groundswell of support she has from her wrestling friends that have more of a reach for me got her a news segment in the Orlando area where she discussed what happened to her with WESH 2 (NBC).

In this segment, I talk about how Zelle's and BofA's responses are full of it, and how the fact that Caroline had been called by BofA for legitimate reasons weeks prior actually triggered her automatic trust that she was talking to a real BofA associate. We really get into accountability in this podcast along with my solution to save banks and people millions of dollars often!

Plus, I also talk about yours truly...What else is new?

I was able to save a home loan over $260,000 for a listener/follower of mine after their bank left them at the altar during the closing day. They literally left him at his lawyer's office without telling him they didn't want to do the home loan. A blind DM and 2 days was all it took to get me to help them save their home loan with the bank. It was one of my biggest scores ever! I am so proud of myself :)

I try to tell you what happened without too much detail :)

Pro Wrestling Makeup Artist The Latest Victim of Zelle + Bank of America Apathy!

Pro Wrestling Makeup Artist The Latest Victim of Zelle + Bank of America Apathy!

Caroline's GoFundMe

In this podcast, I have one topic. Caroline in Florida is a victim of 2 things: Zelle and BofA apathy. Caroline was scammed out of her life savings by a spoofed BofA call that Bank of America acknowledges is prevalent these days. She lost tens of thousands of dollars.

Caroline is a makeup artist and hairstylist with IMPACT Wrestling, one of the larger orgs. for Pro Wrestling in America.

I found her story by seeing tweets from Gail Kim, Eric Young, Jordynne Grace and Angelina Love, all HUMONGOUS SUPERSTARS in their field.

I always mention I take a lot of my bravado from Pro Wrestling and realize that effectively communicating to people like a pro wrestler does gets you noticed. I am using this today to share Caroline's story.

This is a person who works hard every day, and is DAMN good at her job, as the high-profile colleagues that have shared her plight can attest! She is not asking for a handout, but merely for BofA to help her with her claim, as protecting her money is supposedly one of the commitments they give her and their clients.

I discuss why I am not a fan of GoFundMes most of the time, except in this case... I also discuss what Caroline and any victim of Zelle needs to tell their bank.

I hope for great news for her soon! I will keep you posted!!! :)

Bank of America Makes Mistake, Refuses To Fix It, Impacts Family of Afghan Refugees From Eating and Paying Rent

Bank of America Makes Mistake, Refuses To Fix It, Impacts Family of Afghan Refugees From Eating and Paying Rent

Bank of America impacting a bunch of disenfranchised people? Who would have guessed. The bank known for this did it again in Houston, TX, cite of some notable BofA instances in the past. A family of Afghan Refugees, who left during the uprising that led to the Taliban being in power again last year, were impacted by one of the world's largest banks in a silly way.

So after the stay in a camp in New Jersey, the Khairkhan family set up shop in Houston Texas. When Khairuddin, the father, went to the BofA in Houston to cash the check he was given by the US Treasury (IRS), he was told that he could NOT do so, and was told he had to open an account in order to do so (Lie #1, government checks are to be cashed no matter what by non-clients and clients alike). He did just that, and in some bizarre sequence, the teller ended up putting the check in the wrong account with a man with a similar name..

Makes no sense, because the slips are pre-printed with their account numbers when opening an account. Either the teller used an alternate way to end up making the mistake or someone is hiding something. Nonetheless, the money went into the wrong account on April 1, and as of Thursday, Khairuddin didn't have the money, and a couple of people I met on Twitter, Mama J and David Godwin, who were helping these folks chimed in, which I responded.

Within 24 hours, and without my help, they got the family on the news, on ABC 13 in Houston in which BofA finally apologized and promised to fix it, although their statement leaves something to be desired in my opinion about what they are actually doing to this family. In fact, I feel they are still being profiled.

I break it down from all angles, including my experience with NRAs (Non Resident Aliens), account opening, making mistakes, and how and why a manager does or does not help in these cases.

Bank of the West Overdraft Controversy + The Notorious Banker Recovers $1500 for Susan in DC

Bank of the West Overdraft Controversy + The Notorious Banker Recovers $1500 for Susan in DC

Today, I discuss Patrick Rucker's reporting on Bank of the West, and how a secret deal in 2017 to curtail how many overdrafts a customer can get there may do more harm than good. I discuss how the arbitrary $1000 limit led to accounts being closed and customers being unbanked. While the intent was meant to help them out, it can create further problems through chexsystems, which most banks use to approve accounts for clients.

I also discuss the "sales pressure" of pushing your clients to link their checking accounts to ODP, and how it's an easy way to drive revenue, because although you are no longer gathering overdraft fees, you are then getting clients to get charged fees for the act of ODP happening. It's a complicated story as Bank of the West is headed towards a merger with BMO HARRIS bank.

Plus, I recover $1500 from Susan in DC. This is one of the first times I let a media member into my methods of helping people, and I discuss my interaction with her, tips I shared with her to help her, and frankly how big banks do NOT research your fraud claims, and also worry more about call time length than fixing your issue. I got done in 1 day what her bank, BofA, could not get done in months with my "Customer Service Strategy" or "Vigilante Customer Service". I also discuss how her filing a police report to report the robbery of her car, and the subsequent denial of her claim is basically BofA telling her SHE is a criminal for filing a false police report, as the denial of her claim happens despite her affirmation to the police that the crime committed on her DID happen. It's a mess, but we got it done! :)

ATM Deposit Issues in Atlanta + I Beat The State of NM A 2nd Time!!!

In this episode I discuss issues with deposit ATMs. WSB-TV Reporter, Ashli Lincoln did two stories last week about issues at 2 different banks. First, Bank of America and their crappy ATMs stiffed a young man of $200+ and as of today, they are still giving him the run-around. It's horrible.. Then a second story of a Military Widow depositing a $26,000 check at the ATM at a Truist Bank (Formerly Suntrust and BB&T) and never getting credit for it plus how she interacted with the ATM Technician and some of the do's and don'ts on that.. Both happening in Gwinnett County, GA. Of course, the Atlanta Area is where my book is based about the Ryan Coogler Incident

I discuss what the clients did wrong, why they are NOT being helped, and my opinion of deposits at ATMs as a whole.

Then I discuss at length my second victory over the State of New Mexico with NM Unemployment. I was told it would be a year to get my money I have been waiting for since 2020, and I turned that year into 15 days with my aggressive #vigilantecustomerservice where I used an old bank trick to make my battle public and cause the State to cave in to me. It was so rewarding, and I discuss my future now that it looks brighter!

NYT Super Reporter Emily Flitter outlined in a story published last week about how hiring practices at Wells Fargo are meant to target diverse candidates, but end up being more than lip service.

I discuss how this parallels my experience at BofA, and I explain how since the majority of the people interviewed in the article are with WELLS FARGO ADVISORS, how the clients, namely RICH RICH PEOPLE actually dictate how you hire based on their surveys and influence.

Plus I talk about FOX 26 Fresno Reporter Marie Edinger's report on EDD Fraud which occurred on a poor woman to the tune of $16,000. I discuss how we shouldn't call these "fraudsters" and "fraudulent withdrawals" but I discuss how the crime occurred on Janyce in the story. One thing I discuss is how leaving the cash in the card is actually the worst thing you can do, how BofA treats ATM fraud claims. How the wording on the claim dictates if it gets approved or not. How people don't believe this fraud is possible although a 1991 movie featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger showed us it was easy even then. I also discuss how the narrative that chip cards would protect clients is false, and again I reiterate what chip cards actually protect (Aka NOT YOU, the merchant) and I mention how Marie's report will lead inevitably to the bank magically doing a 180 on the claim, and this lady will get her money back

Check out this report.

Report: TD Bank Had Sales Quota Issues Just Like the Big Boys + Texas Couple Gets Scammed 2x - By Crooks and by BofA!

Report: TD Bank Had Sales Quota Issues Just Like the Big Boys + Texas Couple Gets Scammed 2x - By Crooks and by BofA!

First Topic: Patrick Rucker, who I am fortunate to have chatted with a time or two has a report in The Capital Forum (Paywalled) where TD Bank Sales Practices were detailed and mimicked similar environments at BofA and Wells Fargo. The previous Presidential administration opted not to fine TD for these incidents, instead choosing to privately "reprimand" them.

In this segment, I discuss how TD Banks "experience" as detailed by former and current bank employees is almost EXACTLY like my sales experience at BofA.

Second Topic: An Awesome Houston Chronicle article by Yamil Berard (Paywalled, but you can view it for 99 cents) about a Texas couple who applied for and received a BofA Alaska Airlines Credit Card. In a span of a few months, the credit limit increased, against their wishes (I talk about how it was irrelevant whether they wanted it or not according to the cc agreement), got fraud on their card made by suspect "international travel" companies totaling over $17,000, filed a claim with BofA and lost, with BofA using their patented "We know your device was used for this" scam.

Yamil's Twitter

I talk about all the things that Bank of America did and does wrong on fraud claims like this, how great reporters like Yamil are really the only way that the bank refunds clients, while others in the same boat who don't talk with reporters lose out often, and to be fair, I discuss how the elderly couple in the story handled it incorrectly, which likely prolonged the torture from Bank of America. My podcast is here to analyze these stories in order to better fight back against big banks, so any critique I give is made with love in the hopes that it NEVER happens to you at a big bank!

New York City Wants Nothing To Do With Wells Fargo + Arkansas Call Center Employees Arrested for California Unemployment Fraud

New York City Wants Nothing To Do With Wells Fargo + Arkansas Call Center Employees Arrested for California Unemployment Fraud

Today's episode discusses the interesting news from the Big Apple that New York City will not do business with Wells Fargo based on their discriminatory loan practices. We discuss how that means thousands of accounts and how Wells may be viewing this letter that was sent to them. It all comes from the report that more than half of Black homeowners got their refi applications denied in the city, which is horribly wrong.

Then we talk about the news that a call center in Arkansas had up to 10 people arrested for being the masterminds of a plot to steal nearly $3 Million from California Unemployment EDD. I discuss how I was right on the money and what was so interesting is that people are still without their unemployment money.

Just another day in paradise

High-Risk Transaction: The Ryan Coogler - Bank of America Incident - MY NEW BOOK AVAILABLE NOW!!!

High-Risk Transaction: The Ryan Coogler - Bank of America Incident - MY NEW BOOK AVAILABLE NOW!!!

CooglerBofABook.com

It's a secret no more. I have written a book about a story that broke on March 9th. I wrote "High-Risk Transaction" in 5 days to tell the story of what the hell happened to Ryan Coogler, Director of "Black Panther" and "Creed. How does one go from standing in line at the Bank of America in the tony Buckhead district of Atlanta, GA to get money out to pay an employee to being arrested for attempting to hold up the very same bank? It's bizarre. My book explains why it happened, the COVID-era issues that made it possible for something like this to happen, and how the police and racism play a part in this as well.

$8.99 for Kindle, $13.99 for Paperback
$5 if you CashApp/Venmo me for a PDF copy of it - All methods of purchasing it will have some proceeds going to worthy causes.

It's a true labor of love, and I appreciate it so so much!

I also discuss the Baby Storme Issue that happened at Citi in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago. It went super viral on Tiktok, and I went viral as well as I demonstrated how they could've better helped her instead of threating to have her arrested if she didn't delete cell video footage of her interaction with a banker who said they would keep the check she was depositing because they "Couldn't verify it". More to come I am sure.

Breaking Down the Ryan Coogler Incident

Breaking Down the Ryan Coogler Incident

Well, Anything interesting happen at Bank of America in the last week?

Oh yeah... The brief arrest and detainment of Award-Winning Major Hollywood Director Ryan Coogler outside of a Bank of America in Buckhead, Atlanta, GA.

Location of Branch (Google the address and leave a nice tasty 1 star review)

NY TIMES ARTICLE

I don't discuss the news story itself, but mainly all the teller/manager issues that they fucked up on, and how Bank of America literally used the same playbook it always does to deny service to people of color on a really wealthy, famous guy.

I go down a list of 8 bullet point facts that I have posted on my YouTube Channel (Please Subscribe)

Check out the 2 hours compilation of extra footage of this incident that I obtained from the City of Atlanta
There are other videos of the incident as well, such as the manager apologizing to Coogler in person, the interview with Erica Glass and The Loaned Branch Manager as well, and most awesome enough, conversations between cops where even they are confused as to what the hell just happened.

It's a complicated story, and a volatile one... So much so, I got temporarily banned from TikTok as a result of it. Bank of America is upset that I am talking about this story and breaking down all the issues that went wrong with the transaction. I am in the process of getting the account back. In the meantime, a contribution to my project would be great to help me continue to fight back against big banks!

NYT Article on Zelle Fraud and the Lack of Help Customers are Getting from Big Banks + VISA/MC Pull out of Russia

NYT Article on Zelle Fraud and the Lack of Help Customers are Getting from Big Banks + VISA/MC Pull out of Russia

Awesome Article by Stacy Cowley and Lananh Nguyen about a topic you know I love to talk about:

EVIL ZELLE.

I have discussed my past with Zelle as a banker, the nearly $2 Million I have helped people get back from big banks with Zelle being a major method of clients getting burned, and how much I wish big banks had a "hard opt-out" for people who choose not to partake in Zelle. This article discusses how big banks are basically victim blaming people for Zelle fraud, along with the bigger issue of not refunding them despite Reg E being there to help consumers. I also tell a story that is currently happening with my Aunt's gf and Zelle/WF and how she fall victim to someone who hacked her account and a bank who basically called her a liar while overselling her a new acct on the basis of "fear" of it happening again.

I also give some very salty commentary about Zelle going forward.

Plus, I briefly touch on VISA and MC pulling business out of Russia, and how that it would impact many small business owners in Russia, and some people here in the US in very....unique ways. (Read: Adult)

Big Banks Shutting Down Independent ATM Owners Citing Risk (My Thoughts)

Big Banks Shutting Down Independent ATM Owners Citing Risk (My Thoughts)

Great Story by AnnaMaria Andriotis of the WSJ about a phenomena that has been occuring at a lot of banks. Independent ATM owners, also known as owners of those little non-branded ATMs you will see at your nearest low-end gas station or hotel are getting their relationships frozen and/or closed out at big banks, including BofA and Chase. Most big banks cite their policy about opening accounts for "MSBs" (Money Service Businesses) as a reason to deny services, but it is leading to ATM owners not having money to pay the bills and also when they find a bank to do business with, the high cost of fees makes it not worth their while!

This article hits home as I grew up in a pass-through town where people stop to eat, use the restroom and maybe get some money and gas at the local gas station. I also have had clients at BofA that owned ATMs. I tell the story of "Miss Betty" in this segment... and how BofA froze the assets of an older lady citing risk management, impacting her banking and paying bills for months.

Also, in a weird 180, I kind of push back at the main people in the story, and how they claim they were blindisded by the rules after 21 years, and how BofA who froze their accounts was just as at fault because of lack of asking questions by a banker. I explain why.

Finally, I am also pushing back at the notion that owners of these ATMs are heroes serving the underbanked simply because big banks ditched

Update: I had a segment about the racial profiling incident that the rapper Boosie Badazz had inside BofA Last Friday, but the quality was horrible on the audio, plus I sounded tired and high, which I was only one of those things (tired).... I had to cut it because it was horrible to listen to at the gym, but I WILL reRecord it and post it on the next one!!!

Meantime, here's the links for the incident, including my takes on it using my tiktok vids.

Bank of America Sued For Not Refunding Fees During Pandemic as Promised (I believe I had that...) + Viral Bank Video Updates

Bank of America Sued For Not Refunding Fees During Pandemic as Promised (I believe I had that...) + Viral Bank Video Updates

Thank you for over 20,000 followers across Tiktok, Instagram and Twitter.

Today's podcast deals with a lawsuit filed which Bank of America is accused of withholding fee refunds during COVID after promising in a March 2020 news release that they would help people. I mainly discuss how this podcast predicted this over 2 years ago, because Bank of America's refund tool is outdated, horrible, unhelpful, and ties refunds of customers to performance of employees. I also discuss how re-reading the BofA News Release, there is some funky language in there which I could see them using to back away from their promise.

Plus, I briefly discuss the viral Woman Jumping the teller counter Video at a Chase bank that circulated this past weekend, out of Buford, GA. I discuss why everyone had the reason for the altercation wrong, what the associate did wrong, and why I think people need to understand that how it was originally portrayed could not have possibly happened in any circumstance.  CBS 46 Article about the incident.

Finally, I talk about Smoothie Boy, James Iannazzo. He had a court date and a hearing about his job prospects and licensing. He has not had a good week. I will explain what's next for the peanut butter hating individual.

Bank of America Burns Client Out of $33,000 when branch closes down + BofA's PPP Loan Forgiveness Apathy

Bank of America Burns Client Out of $33,000 when branch closes down + BofA's PPP Loan Forgiveness Apathy

Thanks to all of you for making my social media pages thrive. 17,500 followers over TikTok and Twitter:

Today's topics:

- Nick Jonas started following my socials. How that makes me more motivated to create more big bank content.

- I discuss an ABC San Francisco story where a man deposited a $33,000 check at a BofA branch in Oakland only to find out it never posted, and the branch ended up shutting down, albeit temporarily. The story, which is located here, discusses the apathy in helping Mr. Leonard look for his huge cashiers check that was intended to be used to fix up his kitchen. I break down what went wrong from my own experience closing a branch down, the apathy from the other bank managers and how that should be fireable, the fibs I personally believe the client is telling, not that it matters with this case, and also what EXACTLY could have been done way better!

- Plus, I discuss an article from Bryce Covert of The Intercept, which focuses on PPP Loan Forgiveness, and how BofA is making it impossible to get full forgiveness with them. I discuss how the rules are being used in BofA's favor to screw these people over... The incredible stress the small business owners must be going through, and also I discuss how I spent 2020 helping people through the hoops of getting loans with the knowledge that this would likely happen in 2021 as they do crazy insane, and unethical practices in any type of loan they give out. It's complicated but definitely something that needs to be discussed

Emergency Pod!!! Bank of America Merrill Lynch Financial Advisor Arrested after Tirade at Smoothie Shop!!!

This podcast is dedicated to James Iannazzo, who was arrested for verbally abusing a bunch of teenage girls in a smoothie shop in CT. The man is a now former Bank of America and Merrill Lynch FA, which means he holds a lot of money for a lot of rich people. The video of him assaulting these girls, went super duper viral this weekend, with even yours truly getting over a million views, 100,000 likes and 3000 new followers!

In this podcast, I discuss the why of him doing it, the flaws in the peanut allergy story (read the smoothie menu for PB drinks to see why), how Twitter is dominated by him, the workplace culture of BofA and ML and how this led to that, and the conversation about social media and how this thing went viral in such a way, Bank of America had no choice but to fire him.

Bank of America Tries to Scam Customer Scammed By Cab Driver Already for 10k, Wells Fargo Pretends to Eliminate Fees that Matter + MLB and BofA are No More!

We discuss Carolyn Said's story in the San Francisco Chronicle about Margarita Bekker, who was charged $10k for a cab ride, disputes with Bank of America only to be told it was a legit charge. I explain what happened on the bank side, and how the bank only helped her because she got through to the media.

I then discuss Wells Fargo getting rid of "overdraft-related fees" but not Overdraft fees... Make sense? It barely does to me. I discuss how the things offered impact like 2% of their client base, and not the ones who need help the most!

I then briefly talk about MLB and Bank of America ending their partnership, MLB hooking up with Capital One, and how this will impact BofA Bankers, as it was a lot easier to sell customers items that had their favorite team branded on the cards.
