WICB News Presents: Ithaca Now

May is celebrated every year as Bike Month, and Bike Walk Tompkins, an organisation that works to make Ithaca and Tompkins county a community that is safe and convenient to walk, bike and roll in, organise bike month events. Kai Linke had the opportunity learn about them

On tonight’s show, we are going to hear from Malcolm Alexander, who had the opportunity to talk to members of climate activism organisation, Extinction rebellion. Then, we are going to hear from VIC’s 50 hour marathon DJs to see how their experience has been.  

On tonight’s show, we are going to hear from Kai Lincke, who had the opportunity to look into the ECOReps program and composting action on campus.

On tonight’s show, we are going to hear from Sarah Payne, who had the opportunity to talk to Professor Pearl Ponce, who has recently been named director of the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas, Texas. Then we will hear from Caroline Grass, who had the opportunity to look into the Reclaim Earth Day walk happening tomorrow on Earth Day.

On tonight’s show, we are going to hear from Noah Darling, who had the opportunity to attend the commemorative rally marking 25 years since the march and sit-in of Egbert Student Union coordinated by members and allies of IC’s then known Afro-Latin Society

On tonight’s show, we are going to hear from Malcolm Alexander who attended the "Equality for All in 2024- Are Your Rights Protected?" panel run by the Womens Fund of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.

Correspondent Caroline Grass had the opportunity to look into History forge, a project undertaken by the history center in tompkins county. Then, correspondent sarah payne had the opportunity to take a look at the warm winter Tompkins county has encountered.

Station manager Bec Legato had the opportunity to talk to Zoe van nostrand at Ithaca’s History Center about their newest exhibit.

News Director Inbaayini Anbarasan had the opportunity to talk to WICB’s Sports Director, Josh Hobbs, about their experience at the 58th superbowl’s radio row.

Cinemapolis Looks to Expand Accessibility and Black History Month on IC's Campus

On this week's Ithaca Now, News Director George Christopher sits down with the city's of Ithaca's newest Common Councilor and WICB News Correspondent Joshua Pantano tells us about the Ithaca College Spring Visiting Author Speaker Series. Hosted by Liam McDermott.

On Tuesday, a special election was held in the Tompkins County Legislature’s Third District. The election was called after the resignation of two-term Democrat Henry Gransion last year. Granison resigned due to his battle with cancer, and passed away shortly after. Local Democrats chose former Director of the Tompkins County Public Library Susan Currie as their nominee. Currie ran unopposed taking over 98 percent of the vote according to unofficial results published by the county board of elections. With Currie’s victory Democrats will return to the 11-3 majority they briefly lost after Granison resigned in October. WICB News Director George Christopher sat down with Currie to learn more about her and her goals in the county legislature.

We’re going to hear part of the second episode of HAYA or how are you actually with Katelyn Smith and WICB news director Bec Legato spoke with representatives from the League of Women Voters in the second part of a two part conversation to learn more about the organization and to speak on issues on the local ballot.

Ithaca College, among a couple of other school’s on the east coast were invited to go to the White House to celebrate World College Radio Day. They were able to hear from multiple different representatives from the White House and even received a tour of the Eisenhower Executive Building and the Press Room. WICB News Director Bec Legato spoke with Connor Hibbard and Andy Tell, station managers of WICB and VIC and the two representatives who got the chance to attend this event.
